Two little stars ONLY because I'm a very benevolent person, because you need a certain IQ (probably under 90) in order to product such a thing, to publish or to enjoy it.

Otherwise, I don't see a any bright future for a country populated with such youngsters like these...

Fake Boyfriend was a cute but highly predictable book. I mostly read it because it was probably sitting on my TBR when Jesus was born. Then for some weird reason I've been trying to kick my butt into reading shape - and by that I mean.. STOP ADDING MORE BOOKS TO YOUR TBR ALAINA! READ THE BOOKS YOU ALREADY SAID YOU WANTED TO READ. BRING DOWN THAT NUMBER YA TWAT!

So I tried.... REEEEEAAALLLLY hard to not add anymore books. HA! Yeah, I ended up adding a bunch more. Which is why I decided to walk away from the app and my computer and read this book.

Back to this book, sorry for ranting! Fake Boyfriend is about these three close friends: Isabelle, Lana, and Vivi and they all have romantic issues. Isabelle wants to date a bad boy, Lana wants to date their friend because she has the biggest crush on him, and Vivi wants to date a guy.. but I love her because she's blunt and pushy which leads boys to run away from her. However, things get interesting when Vivi steps in to keep Isabelle away from her ex-boyfriend. Oh, and he's a "bad boy" too.

There was a lot of cliche and high school drama that happened in this book. Again, I did mention that it was completely predictable right? Twists and turns are shoved into this book and the girls are basically in a hot mess. In the end, the book was pretty good. It was a pretty quick read and had a nice flow throughout. Would I reread it? Probably not. I just don't see it happening. It was a nice-you-are-only-going-read-once kind of book for me.

Everything goes perfectly for Isabelle Hunter. It always has. Until the day her on-again/off-again boyfriend, Shawn "Sluttig" Littig, breaks up with her. And just a few months away from her prom. Isabelle has been dreaming of the prom for years. She's so obsessed with the prom she's created a notebook that has every last detail of the dream night planned out.

Her friends Lane and Vivi have never approved of Shawn and decide to do whatever they can to keep him out of Isabelle's life permanently. They hatch a plan to create a fake boy on MySpace to divert Isabelle's thoughts from Shawn. Isabelle shows interest in the fictitious Brandon, and so Vivi convinces her younger brother, Marshall, to start chatting with Isabelle on-line.

Soon Isabelle thinks Brandon would be ideal to go to the prom with. The only problem is she doesn't know he doesn't exist! So Vivi and Lane have to come up with a real guy, and quick! The two girls go everywhere to meet the right guy, but to no avail. Only after joining Vivi's mom for some play auditions do they spy the perfect guy, Jonathan. After much coercing, they get Jonathan to join forces with them to be the "real" Brandon. The only catch is that soon Jonathan is showing interest in someone else.

Of course the reader can figure out that there are going to be complications with the story. Only the twists aren't what one would expect! Isabelle thinks about taking Shawn back, Vivi gets confused when her younger brother starts to get cool, Vivi is crushing on someone she shouldn't, and Lane can't get the nerve to tell her friend Curtis she wants to be more than friends.

FAKE BOYFRIEND is another fun read by Ms. Brian. She has hit on another popular topic, using MySpace as the basis for creating a mysterious new boyfriend. The story will not disappoint current fans of Ms. Brian, and should create new ones at the same time!

I like the way everything worked out. However, Vivi is probably one of the most annoying characters I've ever encountered. I was so frustrated with her because she constantly seemed to be lashing out or shaming someone for something. Like, her brother. She was constantly ridiculing him for something. Even calling him gay, which bothers me so much because someone sexuality shouldn't be used as an insult. There isn't anything wrong with being gay, so why should it be used as slander against someone. Sorry to go off on a tangent there. But then she'd lash out at other people, like Jonathan. I understand that she fell pretty hard to him and she still needed him to pull off the whole Brandon thing, but there really wasn't any reason to tear into him like she did. She was just constantly belittling someone. It really bothered me.

Otherwise, the rest of the characters weren't too bad. Lane might have been a bit of a pushover. And Izabelle was certainly dumb as h*** when it came to guys. I couldn't believe how much she kept wanting to run back to Shawn. And most of the time it seemed like it wasn't even because she missed him but because he was going to be her prom date. I mean, the guy cheated on her! And she still wanted him back! So messed up. And then Marshall was definitely a bit of a pushover, especially when it came to his sister. He just never spoke up in his own defense often enough, if you ask me. Curtis was sweet. A nice lovable idiot. Although all the abbreviations were a little annoying.

This was my first time reading Kate Brian and while I sort of liked the book, there are a few key facts that are keeping me from giving it a higher rating.

I'll start with the positives. I really liked the character of Lane, as she was sweet, real and relatable. She also grew in confidence throughout the story, which was nice to see. I also found myself really liking Marshall, as he was the most considerate of all the characters. Also, there's a big surprise toward the end of the book that I won't go into detail about, but nevertheless it made my head spin and left me laughing out loud. I found it was a much-needed twist from the otherwise straightforward storyline.

Which leads me into my negative points, starting with the fact that the story was very predictable. I found myself calling basically everything that happened three chapters before it actually happened. I've heard a lot of hype about Kate Brian on this site, but while her book was cute, it was not the most intelligent or intriguing thing I could have imagined the author putting out.

Secondly, I HATED VIVI, which sucks because as a reader I was more exposed to Vivi than Lane throughout the story. Vivi was selfish, arrogant, and blameless. I also didn't understand why she was friends with nice people like Lane, Izzy and Curtis, who were nothing like her and in real life wouldn't give her the time of day. The whole friendship made no sense and would not exist in real life.

Lastly, the fact that everyone ended up with the right person in the end was incredibly predictable. Even though Vivi was a bitch, she got her guy and they all lived happily ever after. Blah.

Overall, Fake Boyfriend is a decent book for reading by the pool in the summer if you have nothing else to read. You might read it over again but you won't get any more emotion out of it than you did the first time.

The story is about Vivi and Lane planning about making their friend Izzy get over her ex-boyfriend who happens to take her for granted. Vivi and Lane starts their plan through creating a MySpace account of a guy who would flirt with Izzy and make her fall in love.
The same as many stories go, there were a lot of exciting twists that happened from the start till the end.

The story line is exciting and catchy. I admit that the story really kept me hooked even though I'm a little annoyed with some of the major characters namely Vivi and Izzy.
I'm happy to say that friendship is truly tested in the story. Its true meaning was really emphasized in its scenes.

In conclusion:
1. I really love Lane. She's a quiet girl but with huge ideas. I reaaally like her and I'm happy that she has her happy ending in the story. :D
2. From the very start, I already liked Marshall. :"> Even though he's a little bit of a nerdy type, I can feel that he has a cool side. and he's soo sweet to Izzy. :">
3. At least, Vivi got what she deserved. She learned to shut up. haha. thanks to Jonathan. :-"
4. Jonathan OH SO HOT. haha. he's too good for Vivi, but at least Vivi became a better person because of him.
5. Izzy is a little bit annoying due to her obsession when it comes to guys. haha. Well, at least he ended up with the most deserving guy. :-"
6. Curtis-Lane love story. courage is what they need to be able to have have each other. ;)

This was a reread for me, but I read it when I was in like grade school. Reading it now it’s not amazing but it was entertaining and a cute read, but nothing life changing. This has a nice group of supportive friends. Which I appreciate because it’s always good to see that.

If I didn’t read this when I was younger I probably wouldn’t have liked it as much. I just think it’s a fun and cute read. I do really like one of the relationships that happens. I did find vivi really annoying during this reread though.

Cheesy and a little dated (omg remember MySpace???) but still cute. I always enjoy Kate Brian’s characters, plots, and New Jersey references (this one even referenced the Newark Airport!) and I liked this one a lot. The perfect cute, light, and slightly implausible read to get me out of a reading slump.

I love the entire story plot!

It was very teen-ish but in a very humorous kind of way! The cover and the title drew me in to read this book and it was totally worth it. I was giggling like a hyena throughout the book and it was really making me giddy and feeling a bit 'out-of-order'. I love they style of writing, nothing too serious, yet nothing too kiddish either, a perfect book to hit the beach with or curled with for a good light reading.
I had grown fond of Kate's books and every book she wrote was distinctive and unique. Different story plots (of course) but the characters are also different in personalities. (like really different). And in this book, it's a story about a close knit friends, Lane, Vivi and Isabelle or Izzy on what Lane and Vivi went through just to help Izzy to get over her breakup with sluggish ex-beau Shawn-that is including creating a fictional character Brandon! But the real problem was Vivi started falling in love with Jonathon (The guy who played Brandon)

Okay, I don't mean to give out too many spoilers so I'm just going to skip through that. When I was reading the book, I felt pity towards Lane, for not having the courage, and Vivi, for not having someone who could really handle her. Vivi is loud, pushy, bossy and any snotty thing you could call her, but she is strong in that way. She might be offending at times (okay, all the time) but she always put her friends first, in this case the 'Brandon' issue, although she was totally in love with Jonathan. And Lane, she was like this 'suffer-in-silence' kind of girl and it made me ache for her not being that 'outrageous' like Vivi. But reading their bickering is sort of funny! I never enjoyed girls drama in such a humorous way before, haha...

Since the story was told in the third person POV, I had a hard time keeping track of who's POV was it from, but I could equivalently understand and recognize which person was narrating, it sort of make the whole reading experience intensifies. But I couldn't deny that even though Lane and Vivi has two completely different personalities, I always see them as one, a character, maybe that's because they were 'accomplice?' LOL. Anyways, I'm so liking the ending! I think everything ended pretty well and if I hadn't skipped to the end before I read the climax I would be totally taken off guard! (I did it anyway, that's why I'm regretting for ruining the suspense for myself, gah! WARNING: TO WHOEVER WHO WANTED TO READ THIS BOOK, DO NOT SKIP OR ELSE THE 'SURPRISE' EFFECT WILL BE FALTERED') Overall, a wonderful read for a girl who just loves drama with a twist!

I was really attracted to the premise of this book, two friends make online fake romantic interest for third friend to get her away from her sleazy ex-boyfriend. It could have played out in a number of ways and I wanted to find out how it would.

For the most part this was a fun book! I really liked the character of Lane, who was in love with her best guy friend but couldn't tell him! I also liked the conflict that Vivi goes through in the book. I didn't really care for the character of Isabelle though, we are told she's basically perfect except when it comes to her boyfriend (when it comes to him she gets rather annoying). Maybe it was because the story was never told through her voice so as a reader all you knew was what you learned from her friends.

I would have liked to be in on a lot more of the instant message conversations between Isabelle and the fake love interest, typed by Vivi's brother Marshall. We only got a taste, but I was ready for some full conversations! I think that also would have helped develop Marshall's character a bit more and Isabelle's as well. I also wanted to see the character of Isabelle's ex-boyfriend Shawn a bit more, I believed he was bad news but I wanted to see him show it at least a few more times throughout the book!

These girls get themselves into some pretty funny situations and it's fun to see how they wiggle their way out of them! I definitely knew where the book was going but had a great time getting there. Just wish the characters were developed a bit more!

The twist somewhere around the end was really unexpected since Vivi never thought that Izzy could fool her. But apparently she could.

I got really annoyed with how Izzy would keep going back to Sluttig even though she knows that he's no good for her. She believes that there's good in all people and you can't blame her for that, but what you CAN blame her for is constantly giving Shawn an infinite number of chances. You would think that for someone who was as smart as was depicted in the book, she'd have little more backbone and actually kick him to the curb, but instead she cradles and cuddles him like he's some little child that needs to be saved.

Honestly, who would go back to their cheating boyfriend when they've already caught the guy in the act?

The relationship of Lane and Curtis was fun to read. It was easy to relate to that certain element in the story because it was something that happened to nearly all of us. I nearly jumped up in happiness when I read that Curtis felt the same for Lane and that he was waiting to ask her to prom.

Vivi and Jonathan are hilarious to read about because you don't expect a pushy girl like Vivi to get into a relationship with someone as clean cut as Jonathan. She even said herself at first that he wasn't her type because he was too "goody-goody".

The ending was something to be expected. Everyone ended up with who they like and they all live happily ever after. It's definitely a story you want to read when you're "comfort reading" because it's a book that really makes you feel good once you've finished it.

I read this book for a high school curriculum creation assignment, so I knew going in that it was a YA lit novel. However, there are plenty of good writers producing YA lit worth a few stars these days. In light of all of the talent, I am struggling to find why this one made the cut. To a high school teacher, these people didn't SOUND like high school students. The cast of a high school movie, maybe, but not real kids.

A few problems:
1. Stock characters and trite archetypes. There's a literal girl-next-door, a guy who gets called Movie Star boy at one point because he's so hot, the Annoying Little Brother, the Friend with All The Ideas, etc.
2. Do these kids ever go to class? Or have other places to be? The book relies heavily on dialogue, all centered around prom. 24 chapters of that.
3. It was too predictable. You can guess all of the couples that will form by chapter 12, and I was wondering why I had to wait so long for it to happen.
4. Going with number 3, the surprise ending was no surprise. Although the $$$ spent on travel (to avoid spoilers, that's all I'll say) surprised me. Leading to...
5. There was no hint of diversity, whether it was financial, racial, background, etc. I feel sad because I wonder if real high school kids will read this book and think that life really should be this way or look like this...

To be absolutely blunt, I really found this book cheesy. Its about this group of girl, this one girl unhealthily attached to her abusive/douchebag of a boyfriend. Her other 2 friends really want to help her friend get over him, and instead of having a heart-to-heart between them and probably the counselor like most friends would, they think it would be smart to create a "online boyfriend" to take her to Prom. It is very, very obvious that these girls have never had an Internet safety speech, otherwise Isabelle wouldn't have been quite so gullible. And theres another problem. These other 2 girls (I forgot their names), have this one guy actually type to him, and pay another guy to pretend to be this fake boyfriend and take her to Prom. But then the guy falls for one of the girls who created the profile, and then theres this funny love circle and an absolutely horrible ending. Maybe its good for younger people, but it really seemed like an immature, cheesy book.

First of all, if you like reading about a pathetic senior girl obsessing over prom since she was a freshman then this is the perfect book for you. The girl with the lousy boyfriend doesn't want to dump him because she's afraid of being dateless for prom and has imagined her perfect prom night since she was in 9th grade. The girl even has a binder of pictures of dresses and tuxedos, like wtf? Nobody in real life (at least not normal people) would freaking plan their f-ing prom 4 years in advance, that's just crazy since prom is just ONE NIGHT that lasts no more than 6 hours at most. Oh yeah! And the funniest yet disappointing thing about this book is that it's all about Myspace right when the world's focus shifted to Facebook. Bad timing!

The reason I gave this book three stars is because it was entertaining, not
really one of my favorites, but wasn't that bad. The story line was okay, and the
characters well prtrayed, but the dialogue was kind of cheesy. There were, however,
funny moments you wouldn't expect. The ending was totally obvious, but I liked how
it turned out. It's one of those books that I could lay in bed with all day
and read when I'm bored for a little laugh and entertainment. I wouldn't mind
reading it again, but like I said before not one of my favorites. So if you're
looking for a cute book just for fun, then Fake Boyfriend would be a good choice.

I rated this as 1/5 but i don't know if it came like that because the iPad's clonky right now. Anyways, moving on.
I HATED this book!!! It was seriously one of the dumbest books i've ever read! I didn't even finish it, but from what i read, it deserved lower than one.
Isabella: is ANOYINGLY PATHETIC!!!!!!!! She is SUCH a klunk-headed(teehee, maze runner slang!!:)idiot!!! Her obsession with shawn was disgustingly, ridiculously dumb!!!!
Vivi: mistreated her brother. It was terrible. I was feeling so sorry for poor marshall. Shame:(
The other friend: was ok. She was the only person i could stand in the book. :(
BAD book! And i'm usually postivie in my reviews.

Vivi and Lane had their friend's best interest at heart but I would have slapped them in the face if I was in Izzy's place. It had all worked out in the end, everyone was happy --- and in a relationship. I laughed at the jokes and swooned a little over Jonathan. Overall, it was an enjoyable book.
