Stories of the Nations, Volume 2

Rate this book
Mr. Morris’s narratives make you feel as if you are listening to a kindly grandfather recounting tales from the past. This delightful book will introduce to your child famous people and events that occurred in the nations around the world. Plus we’ve added some chapters of our own, so Volume 2 presents stories from Count Bismarck to Queen Elizabeth II.

This and the accompanying stories of America volume 2 are the best history spines I've read for the 20th century. I read both of them with my 11 and 12 year olds last year. We read a lot of great books and these books were my 11 year olds favorite books of the year. The stories are written beautifully and I cried while reading a couple of them aloud. Since then we've read the ancient Egypt book by Lorene Lambert and we are now reading Castle With Many Rooms. Both are well done.

We've now read this twice over the years, having used it as a history spine for our homeschool studies. We use Simply Charlotte Mason, which coordinates this family book (and the companion Stories of the Nations, Vol. 2) with books for each child to read on their own level from the same time period as the entire family (all grade levels) studies the same period in history. We love it!

Our first time through was with my then 5th grader and 2nd grader. Our second time through was with my now 11th, 8th, 5th, and 3rd graders. I was pleasantly surprised with what my older two remembered from six years ago, though we all enjoyed reading it again. We love how the program is structured and have thoroughly enjoyed learning this way together. Paired with the "on-level" books, it's a fantastic way to learn history as a family!
