Sleepless #2

Thomas & January

Rate this book
Thomas Eriksson thinks he has it all figured out.

"People crossed the street when they saw me. I’m not really sure why that was. I mean, okay, I might have looked a bit intimidating if I was being truthful with you. I’d changed since New York. New York represented a life that wasn’t real, not truthfully, anyway. No, New York was the “young, immature, in love, idiot" side of Tom. The “Tie-Dye Tom of New York City” didn’t exist anymore. Tie-Dye Tom was dead."

January Mac Lochlainn thinks she’s her own worst enemy.

"I quit Berkeley. Threw away a full scholarship. Plans, you ask? What plans?"

But they’re both wrong.

***
Tom approached me slowly and met me under the light on the stone walkway. He leaned over me so closely, my neck craned to see his face. His expression was one of confusion as he studied my own.

“What is it about you?” he asked me.

I gulped. “What do you mean?” I whispered, closing my eyes and swallowing again, my breaths becoming labored.

He lifted his hand and dragged the backs of his fingers across my jaw so lightly I barely felt them, but they made me feel dizzy all the same.

“How can you be this extraordinary, January MacLochlainn?” He leaned closer, a look of pure frustration and anger lit his eyes and pressed his lips. “And why couldn’t I have met you before I realized I didn’t want anyone... ever?”

Life for Thomas and January will never be the same again... whether they like it or not.

Fisher Amelie resides in the South with her kick ace husband slash soul mate. She earned her first 'mama' patch in 2009. She also lives with her Weim, 'Jonah', and her Beta, 'Whale'. All these living creatures keep the belly of her life full, sometimes to the point of gluttony, but she doesn't mind all that much because life isn't worth living if it isn't entertaining, right?

Fisher grew up writing. She secretly hid notebooks and notebooks of dribble in a large Tupperware storage container in her closet as a kid. She didn't put two and two together until after college where it suddenly dawned on her, "Hey, I like writing". She's a bit dense. "No, I'm not." "Yes, you are. Put down that Oreo, your butt can't take any more." "You're rude." "Yeah, yeah." Anyway, she likes to write and has finally beaten her self-esteem into submission enough to allow herself to be scrutinized under the 'other readers' microscope. "No! No! Not a cover slip! Last time it gave me a ra...." (mumbling)

Ok so I just loved Callum & Harper which was book 1 in this series by Fisher Amelie so I was so excited to start Thomas & January and although I enjoyed it, I didn't love it. The story seemed a bit rushed and I would have loved to actually get to know Tom and January better. That being said this story has drama and yummy romance, and I loved that the characters from book 1 were in this one too!

January comes from a huge family, she is the oldest of 10 kids. I really liked her, she was intelligent, confident, determined and had this adorable innocence. She turns down a scholarship at Berkeley for a job in the music industry which is where her passion is.

Thomas Eriksson ran off to Austin when the love of his life got engaged to one of his friends. His band split up when the members got different priorities so he is now an acclaimed music scout. Thomas has completely changed and is now a completely different person to what he was in book 1. Rather than being "Tie-Dye Tom" he is now scary (but still gorgeous) looking, dark and brooding. He is pretty miserable.

Thomas and January meet at a gig. January is there supporting her friend whose band is playing. Thomas is there in his scouting capacities. January is immediately attracted to Tom and they share a snog. Tom pretty much freaks out as he is still feeling brokenhearted and he treats her pretty badly after that kiss.....

And this is where Tom and January's journey begins...

Let me start by saying that when I got out my Kindle I had intended to read The Understory by Fisher Amelie. However, I had no idea that Thomas & January was already released and since I had just read Callum & Harper last week I was more than excited to continue with "the family." I was super surprised and excited and the book did not disappoint. Tom and January are so sweet and feisty they are perfect for each other, and the ending was perfect. I love how January's siblings all have months as names. Super fun. I have also discovered another name for my future child/children, Walt aka Pops. I really liked how there was balance between the new story while still incorporating all of the characters from Callum & Harper. However, now I am left to wonder if Fisher will continue with this series...who will be next? My fingers are crossed for Charlie and Cherry because I know there is an amazing story to be told between the two of them.

Awesome. Of course. This is freaking Fisher Amelie we're talking about.

What can I say? I loved it. It was perfect. Had me smiling one second and then crying the next. Her characters are always so levelheaded and that's my favorite thing about them. They make mistakes and are completely normal. But they fight for what they want and admit when they make a mistake. But not just that, there's no crazy unreal circumstances. I can totally see all these playing out in my head.

The way Fisher describes the kissing is magical all by itself. Her writing is beautiful in the truest sense of the word. And the fact that sweet Tom pushed her to wait for a ring on her finger was not only admiral, but heart nelting.

5 well deserved, dry mouth inducing, bobbing my head to imaginary club music, and lip biting stars from me.

This book is absolutely adorable. The chemistry and banter between Thomas and January is fantastic and boy does Thomas have a way with words! The two of them just had me giggling myself to death. A somewhat word of caution to those that read Callum & Harper. Do not go into this book thinking it is going to be the same caliber book. On a scale of 1 to 5, C&H is a 6+. There just isn't any way to follow C&H. This is not a dig at T&J, just not fair to compare. Put C&H out of your mind while reading this book, cause it is worthy and will put a big 'ol smile on your face.

I am a big fan of Fisher Amelie’s Callum & Harper, and was excited to dive back into her world and the eclectic group of friends that I came to love in the first book.

Tie-dye Tom is now Thomas Eriksson – successful music scout, snarky, with a massive chip on his shoulder and nursing some severe hatred. His heart was broken when the woman he loved chose someone else, and now, determined not to be hurt again, he has completely closed himself off, acting like a “hulking beast who hates the world.

All-round good girl and music lover, January spies him one night in a bar and the two of them share some sizzling chemistry and one, hot anonymous kiss. But he brushes her off, totally humiliating her, and then rubs it in by dismissing her and acting like a jerk when they are formally introduced and she is offered a job at his record label. Imagine the awkwardness when six months later, the two of them are teamed up to travel away together for work - especially when neither of them have forgotten that hot moment that they shared, and both are incredibly annoyed by that fact.

“I was taking my pissed off nature out on a beautiful, innocent, amazing girl for no other reason than I didn’t want to find her beautiful, innocent or amazing. I wanted my hate back.”

Despite the fighting and antagonism that is their early relationship, it is clear to see that Thomas and January are both fighting against some pretty powerful feelings. Both of them
determined not to fall for the other, but failing miserably. And when Tom decides to just go with it… my God, he totally lets it go, and is full on with the declaration of feelings!

“What is this, Tom”
“It’s the beginning, January.”
“Of what?” She asked me seriously.
“Well have all the time in the world to talk about that. It’s too deep to get into it right now but know this, I’m tired of pretending. So weary of it. I forgot myself when I lost who I thought Kelly was to me, but you’ve shown me what I think, no, I know no one else could have shown me.”
“And what’s that?”
“That I don’t want to be lost anymore. I – I want you.”

It’s all a big, gooey love-fest for a bit, but there are twists and turns, and a whole lot of stupid requiring epic, epic grovelling. But there is a HEA, and happily, there’s a bit of page-time with the crew from Callum & Harper – including Callum and Harper, which I really enjoyed.

Thomas and January are both really likeable characters, but, despite the chemistry, they both seem really innocent. I mean, all of their original antagonism was caused by a kiss. Yes, it was a hot kiss, but it was just a kiss. And that’s about as far as things go between them . And then there’s the language “gosh damn it”. Really? I almost cheered when Tom finally dropped the f-bomb! But I guess not everybody is as vulgar as I am, so who am I to judge?

I enjoyed this book, and I loved Amelie’s writing. While the story didn’t grab hold of me the way Callum & Harper did, it’s still a nice little follow on.

3.5 stars.

What song is in my head right now after reading this book?

"So just take my hand and know that I will never leave your side
You're the love of my life, you know that I will never leave your side"

(The Gambler by Fun.)

Yeah! This is bittersweet! In a really good way.
I was really hooked in Callum & Harper's story and this one did too!

Innocence.
January is a very sweet innocent girl. I like that about her. She's pure and friendly. She's a crybaby but not in an annoying way. Yeah. I like her. the blushing! Oh my gosh! That was the best! I mean other books describe people blush but this one is my favorite blushing kind of thing. Lol.
Tom's innocence about love is what made him experience heartache and completely changed him.
When the two of them met and --out of nowhere-- just kissed passionately in a bar it was like LOVE AT FIRST KISS. Literally. Lol
Something ignited between them and made them crazy for each other. The feeling while reading that was ecstatic and just lively.

From what i'm seeing positive view is coming from January and the negative is coming from Thomas. And that's complimenting each other.

Trust.
Tom is afraid of getting his heart broken again. But what happened? He broke the heart of the love of his life.
I understand Tom here because he's like "Dude, been there done that. So not gonna happen again." Problem is he made a mistake of judging and assuming the worst from January. He didn't know, yes. He's being careful, yes. That doesn't mean someone is not hurting because of this. Another thing, he kept questioning January's declaration of love for him. From how i understand it, he definitely believes her but he's scared that it might be just too good to be true. He's scared that someday it might just go crashing down and he will be left alone again. This is the best thing and feeling and girl that he came across with and he is so afraid of losing her.

January feels like she's been taken for granted all the time. Like she's not worthy. Again hello SELF PITY.
Well, we can't blame her if that's what people are making her feel. Right? She has the right to be hurt! I cried when she mentioned being used and not good enough for Tom's liking. Like she's being discarded. Awww.
Tom's declaration of love for him was so sweet! She wants him to trust her that she will not break his heart. She never did. She was really in love with him. She did all what she could and give everything to him. She's remarkable for that. It's just sad that even though she's faithfully in love she still got hurt by doing it.

Of course, there are positive things that happened in this book. :) that is RISK.

“Sometimes the risk can be worth the reward.”
now this? This is hell yeah! They kind of did this in their growing relationship. And wow! Those two lovebirds are totally lovely!
Everytime Tom tells January that she's extraordinary and --insert all the amazing adjectives-- my mind is like playing Taylor Swift's song ENCHANTED. It feels like this is what is going on in Tom's and January's head:
"This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonder-struck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you"

sweet!!!

This book made me soooo happy!

Here are some of the scenes that are spine-tingling (lol. Is that even a word?)

"How did we both sleep on this tiny nothing,” I said out loud, my voice hoarse from disuse.
“Well, that leg was wrapped around mine,” he said, pointing to each part as he continued his explanation, “that stomach was pressed to mine, that beautiful face was buried in my neck. It was the best and worst night’s sleep of my life.”

and this one too!
“Can I ask you something?”
“Hmm?”
“Do you think I’m yours?”
“Yes,” she said without hesitation.
“Good, ’cause I know you’re mine.”

it's like singing I'm Yours by Jason Mraz! :)

Very nice book!

As soon as Fisher Amiele posted that this book was released I went straight away and bought it, I could not wait any longer. It was a long wait but damn it was so worth it. This book that I could not put down was amazing. Then again that's only to be expected from the great Fisher Ameile , she can write no wrong in my eyes . Once again she has created must read masterpiece. This is why she is in the top two of my fav authors.

I loved that the characters from Callum and Harper returned in this one, Callum and Harper , and Cherry and Charlie and Tom who we knew as Tie-Dye Tom in Callum and Harper. In this book Tom is a changed man he has built up walls around himself after he suffered heartache. Having left everything behind he goes to Austin as a talent scout and that is where he meets January MacLochlainn and she tips Toms world upside down. I loved January from the start she was such a loveable character.

After one kiss Thomas and Januarys life turns upside down even though they don't see each other for another 6 months they can't stop thinking about the kiss. Then they are forced together for work to go to Europe and do some scouting . Even though they are clearly attracted to each other they butt heads at the start and I loved this part it made me laugh. The more time they spend together the stronger the attraction and connection becomes . I'm not going to give to much away because I want everyone to go and read it but let's just say it's not all easy sailing for Thomas and January but the end had me at the edge of my seat.

I was clued from start to finish I cannot wait till it comes out on paperback so I can add it to my collection.
Fav quotes:
Tom: can I ask you something?
January : hmmmm??
Tom: do you think I'm yours?
January : yes
Tom: good cause I know your mine

Another one :Tom " the infatuation I have for you is borderline psychotic". Love it.

To anyone that has not read Fisher Amiele's book , I'm telling you to go and get her books I can guarantee you will love them and will not be disappointed. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE!!!

January - “Just get me whatever you’re drinking.”
I laughed. “I don’t think you want what I’m having, sweetheart.”
“Condescension. Nice touch.”

January is quite a typical heroine. At first. A bit of sass, plenty of innocence, and a good dose of cheekiness. But when she pulled out statements like this, I knew we were going to get along very well.

That wink told me two things. One, he was freaking adorable and did things like wink. The only other person I knew who winked was my grandpa. Two, that he was excited about privacy with...Lil’. Ol’. Me.

I liked that January soon realises that Thomas' harsh personality is just a front so she makes it her mission to get him out of his self-inflicted hellhole. One of my favourite things was that January didn't think Thomas was the most handsomest guy ever until she got to know him. I think this is so realistic. She also has this really adorable habit of repeating back Thomas' sweet nothings.

January has this sense of humour that, on anyone else would be cheesy. But on her, it's cute. She has other quirks that I really liked too. That one about talking like a Valley Girl when she's nervous was hilarious!

Thomas decided to turn into hate-the-world guy after having his heart broken. He's not lovesick anymore but he's pretty comfortable with hating the world. As a worldly guy, his irrational jealousy over January had me giggling. I liked that Thomas thinks he's got his shit together but he starts having all these feelings about January and I just wanted to pat him on the shoulder and say, “Resistance is futile”. I loved his little “zap” that he'd mutter every time he realised just how pretty she is. When Thomas decides to dive head into love, he becomes such a sweetie. Not a sap. Just a darling who tells January she's lovely and makes me swoon. I especially smiled when he got frisky with January and took care that he didn't hurt her in the name of desire. I hate it when the guy jerks around a girl when he feels like it just because he's so “passionate”. Fortunately there was no such behaviour from Thomas. I loved how he came up with all these classy one-liners that were just so appropriate and delicious.

“January.” I repeated her name because nothing had ever felt better to say, especially in that moment.

Thomas and January have such a fun relationship. Even after they get it on they still enjoy teasing each other and actually being interesting instead of just mooning over each other and being incredibly lame. The author keeps the banter up and I could easily see how the pair fell in love and stayed in love, y'know? Ms. Fisher writes an effortless romance.

The Break Up
As much as I adore Ms. Fisher, there is something always a bit weird about her break ups. The characters feelings seem so, well, out of character. However, this break up is probably one of the better ones because it actually makes sense. P.S. I loved Tom's sisterly support system that helped him win January back.

Sexual Content: Unbelievably hot without being smutty. Oh how I love Amelie Fisher.

Oh Fisher Amelie. I kind of love you.

Tie-Dye Tom is no longer Tie-Dye Tom. After being forced to feel what its like to have his heart broken, he has left New York to go to Austin to be a music scout. He has left that loving persona and pretty flowers behind (from Callum & Harper) and now dresses in layers of dark clothing with a permanent scowl on his face. No longer lanky gentle Tom, he is buff, don't-mess-with-me Thomas.

January is the oldest of ten siblings. She is a masterful pianist and revels in the music world. She is beautiful, kind, and oh-so-innocent. But when she sees Thomas, at her friend's show, she can't stop herself. Innocent, saint-like January looses all inhibition as her hands find there way his jaw, and she kisses him. A complete stranger. And he kisses back.

That moment everything changes. Thomas, trying to ignore the need that his replaced the heartache he once felt, pushes January away. January, never having done something so impulsive, feels embarrassment for the kiss that she was sure was reciprocated, despite the misgivings she now received. But, despite how they may push each other away, this was really only the beginning of their story...

Oh fans of Callum & Harper, we unite again. Another enthralling love story to hang us over until the next one. Thomas & January has somewhat of a different feel than Callum & Harper. Whereas Callum & Harper focused on the homelessness of the characters, and the overcoming that they needed to do, this book focuses on the music and how it brings out a passion that needs to be enough to overcome old wounds.

A lot of the old characters from Callum & Harper do pop in, as they are Tom's world in New York (YES!). And we get to see the multiple sides (and eventually the oh-so-loved side) of Tom. I absolutely loved it; I love the settings (oh yes, we are going abroad my friends), the story, and the so very amazing ending. Also, I'm in love with the cover. There is kind of nothing about this book I didn't love. Except that its got a finite amount of pages, so it must end eventually (but of course, that's what re-reading is for).

Now, Miss Amelie, I will await your next project. I'm hooked.

This was just released (6/14) for the kindle on Amazon, so go buy it now.

Ah , I just love stories that talk about falling in love for the first time ... well not exactly the first time , but falling in love with the right person , someone who is meant for you , for the first time !! * Swoon swoon and swoon *

Thomas & January is the story of two souls , well not literally souls but its the story of these two amazing individuals who meet and get to know each other and learn to love and accept each other because of their love for music . At first , they are all about squabbles and bitter banter . But a tour to Europe for new music scouting will bring them closer than they would have ever imagined . But as usual , there is gonna be trouble in paradise , and trouble here comes in the form of nemesis competing for the same price . A top notch position in a music/record company . Will these two be able to see pass the deception or will things go haywire and mess up their relationship forever ??!!

I love Fisher Amelie's writing style . And her taste in music is equally amazing ! To be honest , I loved Thomas and January's story a tad bit more than I liked Callum and Harper's . Where Callum and Harper were really shy to get their thoughts across to each , Tom and January were easy going and fun loving . I seriously was wishing for the book to be longer just so I could read more about them . Super cute I tell ya !!!

If you love a simple , yet heart touching story that talks about a boy and girl who love music and then found love for each other through that mutual love for music , then this book is a definite must read for you !!!

More of my reviews @ www.obsessionwithbooks.blogspot.com

I absolutely loved Callum & Harper by Fisher Amelie so went into Thomas & January with my expectations quite high and although I enjoyed it, I didn’t love it as much as book 1.

January MacLochlainn, the eldest of ten children has left a scholarship at Berkeley to pursue a career in the music world where her passion truly lies.

Thomas Eriksson fled NY for Austin with a broken heart, he is a former musician and now a music scout; his whole persona from Callum & Harper did a complete turnabout, he went from being tie-dye Tom to dark, moody mysterious Tom.

Thomas and January meet at a concert where they share a kiss but Thomas pulls away still reeling over his heartache and not expecting the emotions he feels after January kisses him. She is given gainful employment at the same company as Thomas but they don’t see each other for a few months which is about to change when Thomas is sent to Europe to scout for new talent and January is to accompany him.

I thought January was wonderful, head-strong and determined at the beginning of the book, there was an innocence about her but she still stood up to Thomas; as the book progressed though she seemed to become weaker, I feel the same happened with Thomas – they started with a volatile relationship that was snarky and a bit of fun to something completely different. I would have loved a bit more character development to get to know them more than what we did, especially January.

I did enjoy the secondary characters, each make a re-appearance from the first book which was great. I like when characters from past books play a big part, it is nice to see what they are now up to and the friendship they each share is sweet.

Ms Amelie’s writing is detailed and enjoyable; I really love a book that has a lot of witty, fun dialogue. The plot was a tad predictable but enjoyable none the less.

Thomas & January is a book filled with drama, romance, wonderful descriptions, a beautiful setting and likeable characters that will have you glued to the pages right from the beginning. A sweet read with a nice HEA.

I'll start by saying...thank goodness this book released. Last year I read Callum & Harper and quickly became invested into the lives of this group of friends. So, Fisher, THANK YOU for making this book happen. I was really looking forward to more.

We meet tie-dye Tom in C&H, but I really felt like he was still a bit of a mystery to me. In this book, I really found myself drawn to Tom. He is hurting from a broken heart. The woman he loved, loved another. So, Tom takes off to Austin to scout musicians. He's cranky, stand-offish, and overall, just miserable. The one thing that keeps him going is the music. I absolutely loved that music was such a focal point in this story. Then, I loved seeing how Tom's stubborn heart began to heal when January enters his world.

January is just simply darling. I really loved her immediately. I loved her sense of humor, her independent personality, her fiestyness, her innocence, and her vulnerability. She took a chance on Tom and he burned her badly. Once their paths cross again, she's not willing to make the same mistake. However, circumstances force the two together and they can't fight their attraction. Thomas and January really were the perfect fit. They had so much chemistry as a couple. I loved watching January break down Tom's walls. Tom is such a great guy. As a couple, I loved their mutual passion for music, their connection, and the love that they share.

This book is a great love story for Adults and YA to enjoy. It takes you traveling around Europe, reuniting with the gang (which I loved), discovering new music, and most importantly taking the chance to open your heart to love. While Callum & Harper touched me deeply, I really identified with Thomas & January as couple. I loved, loved, loved the ending. Just perfect! It makes me happy when I don't want the story to end. I hope to see more of what happens next for Thomas, January, and the rest of the gang.

"I knew nothing of romance, but it was love at second sight."- fun.

I went into Thomas and January's story with some extremely high expectations. How can Tie Dye Tom hold up next to Mr. Callum Unbelievably Amazing Tate. Spoiler: he's not Tie-Dye Tom anymore he is yummy Tommy ;) And you know what. Fisher did it again. She took my heart and played kick ball with it, yes you-you devious author you. It's still what I would call a Fisher Story, it's her style and feel, but it's its own in its own way.

Thomas is a completely different character than Callum (Harper and January as well), you can't even compare the two because they are both well rounded and unbelievable in their own ways, but nothing alike. Where Callum is strong and independent (except when it comes to Harper, of course); Tom is emotional and raw. This book tore me to pieces, much like former, but in a good way. Fisher Amelie makes the reader experience feelings foreign and long forgotten, she has a gift and I can't wait to follow her stories.

Thomas is a band scout (how cool is that). I'm a big music girl, so this book hit me in all the right spots. It's also a see Europe kind of book, ahh, it is great. I want his job. I could do it. Maybe.

My favorite aspect of this book was the teasing and banter between T&J. They begin the story with a bang that quickly shatters into something less positive, but so entertaining and hilarious. As she did in Callum and Harper, Fisher switches back and forth between Thomas and January and it makes the book three dimensional and real.

In case it's not clear and I haven't expressed my feelings well enough. I love this book and this glorious author. Absolutely positively love it. Fisher Amelie is the baddest ace of all time, she rocks. She has officially joined Abbi Glines and Tammara Webber in the true literary rock star category. I am officially a fan girl! Thank you maam for coming to Tulsa, OK!

Review posted at Ja čitam, a ti?

Few months ago I've read Callum and Harper aka the first book in this series and I adored it. It was so heartbreaking and I couldn't stop reading it. I've realized that I have some thing for books that deal with people form dysfunctional families and hard lives. So I was so excited to read this one.

Thomas and January was a really interesting book. We have Thomas who is a guy with huge circle of friends and works in music industry but at the same time he looks so inaccessible. He always wears black and because of his height he sometimes seems scary. At the other side we have January with a huge family and she is the eldest. Yes, other members of her family have names by months in a year. She was always drawn to music and listening to new bands but unfortunately she couldn't do that for living. Well at least not until she met the Thomas. Soon enough Thomas' boss hires her and she has to work together with Thomas as a team. Not an easy task considering the circumstances - let's just say that their meeting wasn't the best in the world.

As much as I enjoyed this story I couldn't say it blow me away. January wasn't the girl I could easily get and relate to. She does some contradictory things. I was afraid that other Fisher's book would be like this one, but luckily Vain put the things on the right track. All in all this was one easy and enjoyable read but nothing more than that.

Tie-Dye Tom. Who knew he would be so wonderful? We got a small glimpse of how amazing he was during Callum and Harper's wedding. I was surprised to see out of all the characters Tom was getting his own book. It was something I didn't know I wanted until it was in my hands. Thomas and January were a great couple and I loved them right away. I was very happy to see the whole gang again...especially Callum and Harper. Their book is one of my favorite books ever!

I need to read more of Fisher Amelie's books. Ahem, Vain! Her writing stays with me in a way very few do.

Cover Thoughts
I think I am going to do a picture review on the cover because this is pretty much how I felt about the cover.
description
WHen I first saw the cover

Thirty minutes later after reading the excerpt and not knowing when the book was coming out. Fisher Amelie must be a sadist. :) Why!!!!!!!!!!! was my reaction. Why are you so cruel, Fisher? Why? *cries*
[image error]height="500" alt="description"/>
Then after I calmed myself down and realized it had come to this. Well, Fisher if you read this you will know what I have done with my life for the past couple of months.

And then after I saw it had came out and still had the beautiful cover, here is my reaction. Yet, before I died I had time to ask Tom to marry me.

Review

First, off I like to start this review off with a it's not fair! I half way wrote a story before I heard of this one was called An American January way back 10 months ago and I look up ,and Fisher has already written Thomas and January. I thought January was only a name I could come up with. It's not fair that I am not the only name Genius in the world! Atleast my guy name wasn't Thomas- just to let you people know the main male protagonist was named Excell.

The only complaint on the book is the shortness. I got captivated and I needed more, people. I needed more writing! It was my own personal crack. When I read the book my expression grew to be like this.

So, I think Fisher has pretty much captured my heart with Tom and January. Both exceeding expectation characters, rival even the beloved Callum and Harper. Sure the book starts off with a first kiss in the first chapter. Doesn't bother me a bit because the romance evolves. The relationship grows over time. It blooms slowly and the first kiss just didn't make them fall helplessly in love. They took their time falling into love. They took their time to make sure that the other one just wasn't a jerk face. They kissed once, they get arrested once, they listen to music several times, and they lose there hearts for the rest of there lifes.

I think I missed my Tye Dye Tom for some time. I loved Thomas, the new one but where is my Tom with all the tye dye and have to wear a piece no matter what , yet he left all of that behind him in New York? Well darn. Although, I hated to see Kelly out of his life even though she is soon to be married. I always had a liking to her because of her 5 feet exactly height.

January. One of my favorite Irish people in the whole world. This character has so evolved and grown in this book. A music lover that gave up everything just for - for herself. She didn't feel Berkley was for her so she drops out even with her full scholarship. That girl has spunk for telling her parents- even more so about it to there face. Then she just leaves like that and when she invited Tom to the party. Well I just couldn't help but laugh. This is one female character that is independent and one of my all time favorite female character leads.

I wish I worked for Seven, the music company. All the guys that worked there sounded amazingly cute. Every single last one of them sounded book boyfriend style- excluding Jonah. I could hit him with a shovel as I type. Then, instead of working for Seven in the US move me to Europe, my label friends. I want to go meet the gopher interns. They sounded very appealing in my little ears.

So one last thing I need to say before I go, Can I have Tom's Tye Dye underwear? :)

Finally!! Thomas & January was finally released today! This is one of those books I've been patiently waiting for since It was announced that the release date was pushed back. For those of you who are not aware of Fisher Amelie and her works, you should really change that and reader her wonderful novels.

I was thrilled to download Thomas & January today when I saw Fisher post that it was now available. I dove right into it. This book is similar to Fisher's previous novel Callum & Harper but instead the focus is on Thomas, one of the more minor characters in Callum & Harper and his adventures.

In Thomas & January we reunite with Tom AKA Tie-Dye Tom as he was known as in Callum & Harper. However the Tom that we once knew, for those who read C&H has disappeared. Only to be replaced with a new persona that Tom has built to escape the heartbreak that he's suffered through. He is more introverted and keeps more to himself than what we would remember from his easy going, happy go lucky personality. How his tie dye has been replaced with boots, hoodies and darkly colored shirts.

Having feld NYC, away from his friends, family and the heartbreak that still haunts him. He has relocated to Austin as a talent scout for new upcoming bands. Adjusting to his new life and job, he still finds himself reminiscing on the past and the memories he can't escape. Though being able to find awesome (and terrible) bands night after night helped take his mind off the pain from time to time. Thomas just lives his new life day to day. Nothing amazing or horrible happens. His job numbs the pain of his past. He tries to stay away from girls and the ever present possibility of being sucked right back into the heartache that could occur if he tried to emotionally invest himself in anyone. He's decided that he doesn't want to be with anyone...ever.

Little did he know once he met January Mac Lochlainn all the walls and precautions he took to avoid getting involved would fly right out the window.

Ahhh, now we come to January. What can I say about her? She rocks. I really enjoyed getting to know her. The fact that she threw away a full scholarship from Berkely because she wanted to help promote her friends band to get them noticed really says something about her. January as awesome as she is has an ear for bands and music styles and can tell whether or not they have what it takes to make it in the industry.

So when a talent scout comes to view January's friend's band The Belle Jar in person, Thomas & January collide in a spontaneous and heated moment that rockets a love and hate, cat and mouse chase between the two. Especially when January is offered a position to help scout for bands at the same record label as Thomas.

Thomas & January takes us from NYC to Austin, Ireland, Rome and back! It was interesting to see how Thomas and January reacted to one crazy situation after another. How funny it was to go from a broken down car to getting booked for attempted "burglary". Not to mention how they both struggle with their feelings with one another and the uncertainty about how the other feels.

I loved this book. I loved the characters and reuniting with previous characters from Callum & Harper. It was interesting to see how one girl could slowly and eventually completely tear down the defenses of a broken boy who vowed to never get close again. How the love of music can spark connections between people. How sometimes we can be our own worst enemy or how we can be our own salvation. How what we think has happened to us in the past defines who we are but how we find it within ourselves to change what we thought and can carve our own destinies with the help of friends, family or sometimes even strangers.

“You revived me. You saved me. You did what I’m convinced no other person could have done and believe me they’d tried.” – Thomas

Alrighty, I just want to start out by saying this: Don’t go into this book and expect another story like Callum & Harper, or I think you’ll unfortunately be disappointed. This book’s issues aren’t nearly as heavy as in Callum & Harper; it’s a lighter romantic story. I put Callum & Harper out of my mind and tried not to compare to the two books, because they are very different. That being said, I loved Thomas and January’s story.

When Thomas is offered a job in Austin, TX as a talent scout, he jumps at the opportunity and takes his broken heart far away from Kelly and New York City. He drops his lighthearted attitude and adopts the personality of an asshole. He starts dressing in dark t-shirts, black hoodies, and black boots. He never lets girls in because he refuses to have his heart broken again; Enter January.

Fresh off being kicked out of her parent’s house because she dropped the bombshell that she wouldn’t be going back to Berkeley, she lands a job at Seven; the same company Thomas works for, and soon learns she will be accompanying him to Europe to scout bands overseas. Why are both of them dreading traveling together? Well, because they’ve already met…sort of…and let’s just say it didn’t go so well. While they are clearly attracted to each other, they have both put up a wall against the other…but just how long will that last?

I just love Thomas and January! Their witty banter back and forth was hilarious, and seeing the progression in both of their feelings towards each other made my heart smile. Thomas started out so cold towards January that I almost didn’t like him, but what he does for her on the ferry is the first time I think I realized that sweet New York Tom was still in there somewhere, and January progressively gets him to break down the walls he’s built up one by one. I think my favorite part of the book is when he finally completely opens up to her about his past while they’re sitting on the floor of the hotel room…or when they’re in the back of the cop car…or when he shows up at her grandma’s house. Okay, okay, fine! I have a lot of favorite parts, but it’s because I loved their story so much! Their issues weren’t as big as Callum and Harper’s, but they were issues they had to work through nonetheless, and some of those issues broke my heart a little.

One other plus is that you get to catch up with the characters from Callum & Harper, which I loved because I adored all of them. If you enjoyed Callum & Harper, I would definitely recommend this book, but you just can’t go into it expecting the same type of love story. Thomas and January have their own story, and it’s adorable, frustrating, sometimes a little steamy, and incredibly entertaining!

Read this and other reviews at Madison Says.

I think that a great injustice given to books, especially those in a series, is when they are compared against one another. Such could be the case with Thomas & January. Taken on its own, if I hadn’t just read its companion book #1 Callum & Harper I would have thought it was so great. And it was a great book. But in comparing the two in the series they make up, it’s not on the same level of Callum & Harper, but honestly, not many books are the same caliber asCallum & Harper.

We met Thomas as Tie-Dye Tom in Callum & Harper. He’s no longer that same guy. He’s shed his fun-loving tie-dye Tom ways; he’s fled for Texas from New York for work after suffering a devastating heartbreak. And now, he’s focused on his music scouting career. And that’s it. And then he meets January.

January is sassy, confident, and knows what she wants. She turned down a scholarship to Berkeley to pursue a job in the music industry. She’s after her passion and not just what’s safe. She has this sweetness and innocence about her, but she still isn’t one to be messed with. Thomas and January meet one night when she’s at a club supporting her friend’s band, and he’s there scouting her friend’s band. They have a pretty hot first interaction, but then he is an ass to her. He’s still dealing with the remains of his broken heart, and she sort of comes out of left field and makes him have feelings he isn’t ready to have.

What they don’t realize is that their lives are about to be much more intertwined and there’s no running from that. I love how even though she’s been burned by him, she doesn’t let that affect their work relationship. Over time, what develops is so honest and beautiful. I love how they are able to heal one another. They have an amazing chemistry and while they have their fair share of misunderstandings and miscommunications, it’s definitely on a lighter scale than Callum & Harper face. Speaking of Callum & Harper (and the rest of the gang), I love being able to get a glimpse into their lives in this book.

This book has a wonderfully sweet ending that had a smile plastered on my face for days. I love books that you don’t want to end, however, you feel so completely okay with their ending because it’s done so incredibly well.

I give this book 4 stars and recommend to YA and mature YA readers. It’s not as emotionally gripping as Callum & Harper but it’s a super fun and lighter love story. Fisher again writes witty dialogue and engaging characters that you can’t help but root for and actually relate with. As long as you go into this knowing it’s not the same sort of tale as Callum & Harper I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. It's definitely a book I would read again!

Let me start by saying that Thomas & January was a really good young adult novel.

Now, let me follow that up by saying that I was slightly disappointed by this novel. Okay. Please don't start yelling at me yet. Give me a minute and let me finish.

I made the mistake of going into this story expecting to read another story just like Callum & Harper. I enjoyed Callum & Harper so much that I welcomed reading a very similar story. I knew that this novel would focus on a different set of characters, but I expected the story to have the same feel as Callum & Harper. In my opinion, Thomas & January was a lot different from Callum & Harper. That's not a bad thing. Again, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

Callum & Harper was an emotional story that touched on a lot of real issues that young adults face, whereas Thomas & January was a lighter, less intense story. Both stories were fabulous. Both stories showcased Ms. Amelie's talent. Both stories were packed with raw honesty and humor. Personally, I just happened to prefer the emotional, gritty story over the fun, lighter story. I guess that after reading Callum & Harper, Thomas and January's issues felt a little superficial. It wasn't that Thomas and January didn't have to struggle because they did. They just didn't have to struggle through as much as Callum and Harper had to struggle through. Thomas and January's "issues" were minuscule in comparison to Callum and Harpers.

I know I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I know it's not exactly fair to judge one book against another, but unfortunately, I can't help it. Both were great stories. Callum & Harper just happened to be the better story :)

I gave Thomas & January by Fisher Amelie 4 STARS (3.5 STARS). Thomas & January is a clean, hilarious romance novel that young adults will enjoy. My advice: Read this book. Just don't go into it expecting Callum & Harper. Thomas & January is its own unique book, and it's definitely worth reading.

-XOXO

Let me start by saying that Vain and Greed by Fisher Amelie were both 5star reads for me and I truly loved them but this book for me was stupid. The context was stupid, the characters were stupid and the writing was stupid. This book was stupid.
By 5% I had nearly given up on it twice and that right there is a sign of a stupid book. As I hate giving up on a book and baring in mind my total love for Fishers writing in both Vain and Greed, I decided to bravely plow on in the hope that Thomas and January would improve. It didn't.
What upset me most was the stupid scenarios that Thomas and January found themselves in, honestly the arrest, really. I still haven't decided if the author actually thinks us brits are that small brained, unintelligent and ignorant or whether she thinks her readers are that small brained, unintelligent and ignorant! Either way I found that particular chapter patronising and stupid.
For a 19 and 23 years old, respectfully, I found January and Thomas' speech and thought processes to be overly mature and yes, stupid. What 19 yr old says "Gosh damn it"?! Whilst I am on the subject of January I have two words to describe her- Bunny boiler. She goes up to a random guy in a club, strokes his arm, kisses him and then - "I was humiliated and shunned and an idiot" when he walks away from her without saying anything. What did she expect, an engagement ring?! See, I told you, stupid.

I gave Thomas and January 2 stars instead of 1 simply because despite the stupidity, I found it to be so bad it was a little bit good and through it all there were parts where I'm not sure if the writing improved or I became immune to it but the writing style became the easy enticing style of Fishers that I so loved from her newer books and I couldn't deny that an extra star.

This book was so freaking good. I fell more in love with Tom and loved January so much. Unlike Callum and Harper in which tragedy and survival brought these lost souls together, Music and attraction brings them together. Thomas is nursing a broken heart and left New York and his friends to help with it. One night he sees January and for that moment he forgets about his broken heart. January is instantly attracted to this man and wants to see more of him. One passionate kiss freaks Tom out and it appears he rejects her when n fact he is taken by he so much. Jason his boss meets January and can see that she has an ear for music and offers her an internship in New York. Six months later they cross paths again when they are thrown together when Tom is to train January to become a scout like him. This is where things get interesting. I loved the book but I wanted a farther ending. Also I was curious why Cherry and Harper were not pregnant. This book might have taken place between the ending of Callum and Harper but before the Epilogue. If so why wasn't January at Callum's graduation with Tom those are just questions for the mind. I really liked Jason a lot and would like to see him meet his soul mate next.

I thought of a song that would fit for January before the ending "Almost Lover" by A Fine Frenzy.

I knew immediately after finishing Callum & Harper by Fisher Amelie that I would have to read more of her books so I dove right into Thomas & January. I loved Thomas in all his brooding, muscular, hoodie darkness. He was such a great character and I loved how his morals came forth with January. I think that made me like him even more. One of my favorite scenes was him realizing the mistake he had made with January, and the conversation that unfolds while he sits at the bar with the beautiful blonde next to him. It was one of the highlights of the book for me. Oh and I loved his bug zapper analogy ( you'll understand when you read) and all of his little "Zap's" hehehe.
I loved what a fun character January was and how she just went for what she wanted. And of course the chemistry between the two...sizzling.
I liked the incorporation of some of the characters from Callum & Harper, it was just enough to tie the two books together but not too much as to overtake the story which can definitely hold it's own. I'm definitely a sucker for good romance stories and I just fell in love with both of these books...both are very different, but the writing style is just wonderful to read. I enjoyed every minute of the book!

"...fate has a way of stepping in and guiding you the direction you need to go even when you yourself had no intention of creating that path."

OMG Fisher Amelie, what have you done to me!?!? LOL! I'm a weeping, giggly happy mess!! This is another amazing, amazing story!!!

This is not the Tie-Dye Tom you know from Callum & Harper. No no, this is a gritty, angry, bitter Thomas. And he is just going through the motions of surving his life.

Then there's January. (BTW, LOVE her name and all her siblings!) Fierce and loyal, sweet and naive - she's everything that's good but dangerous to a guy like Thomas.

and their meeting (and that kiss! Oh my!)......but the world is never how we think it should be.

The added treat of being back with Cherry, SO, Charlie, Harper & Callum just warms my heart.

and my favorite part of the book?!?! Callum's advice, right near the end. I laughed so hard I almost dropped my kindle. Trust me, Callum WOULD know! ;D

I wanted to love this book, and I certainly didn't dislike it or hate it, but I didn't think it was wonderful. The story was very predictable and followed the familiar formula of many romance novels: characters meet and are attracted but argue, they meet up again and argue while realizing their attraction for one another, they get together, they have a misunderstanding and break up, then after some time they are reunited. I know how I truly feel for the characters in a book like this because I am either frantically reading and rooting for them to work it out, or I'm just trying to get to the end so I can start a new book. This one was the latter. I knew they would end up together and I just wanted them to get on with it already so we could move on. And then when the book ended before the actual wedding and wedding night, well that was disappointing. I mean, we came all this way and we ended with a proposal? It was kind of a let down. All in all, I don't feel like this was a waste of a read, but it certainly didn't knock my socks off.

Thomas and January is a great quick read, and kept moving with a decent pace. I think what kept me moving through this book was the palpable sexual tension in this book that was so similar to Callum and Harper that it could only have come from Fisher Amelie. Though I didn't feel the gripping suspense I did with Callum and Harpers story, I still enjoyed it so much I found my self reading at work on the down-low so I could find out what happened next. Honestly, the best part for me was all of the glimpses into the current lives of all the New York gang; Cherry, Kelly, Charlie, and of course Callum and Harper.

I think the reason I gave this one 4 stars has more to do with my love of the characters than the plot its self. Only a great author can make you not only fall in love with her main characters, but the supporting ones as well. I say this alot in reviews, I felt like I was one of the gang!

I have read quite a lot of glowing reviews about this novel. But I just disliked it.

Firstly, Thomas is a hypocrite. He calls January out on sluttish behaviour (not that she was, mind you, acting sluttish), but that hypocrite himself professes to having kissed and slept with hundreds of girls. I mean what the hell, that is so not cool.

Secondly, Thomas is an ass-hole. He is so selfish, cold and hurtful. He presumes stupid things with little or no reason and he takes it all out on January.

Thirdly, for a girl who hasn't cried in three years, January sure cries a lot in this novel. For things that are so minor.

Fourthly, the proclamations made throughout this book meant nothing. Things like 'I love you' meant nothing.

Fifthly, Thomas keeps on thinking how he so does not deserve January. I agree, God, just leave her alone and go act your depressed self in the back streets of New York.

i absolutely loved Callum and Harper (book 1 in the sleepless series) and I definitely LOVED Thomas and January. This is a story about two people who you root for from page one to be together. The only thing standing in the way is something that is the hardest thing to fight. Thoughts, doubts and insecurities. Basically ones self. Ms. Amelie created 2 more beautiful characters ( others being Callum and Harper) that are so real and sweet that you can't help but love them and understand them and just hope for a HAE! Great book and WONDERFUL story!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! I'm highly hoping there is a 3rd in the series :) btw: when you get to the end please please PLEASE listen to to the song by FUN. :) happy reading!!!
FYI- Ms. Amelie ....GREAT SONG CHOICE FOR THE END!!
