Killer Accommodations

Rate this book
Grandpa Sharpe has made it clear to Jamie that the old Terrowin Hotel, an inheritance from her uncle that she is managing, is bursting at the seams with forgotten treasures and deadly secrets. But when a young girl vanishes from room 307 without a trace just a few short weeks after the grand reopening, that reality comes crashing down with more force than she would’ve anticipated. To make matters worse, she discovers that another woman had disappeared from the same room just a few years back. But when she encounters a dead body in the laundry room, she’s forced to begin doing some sleuthing herself. A series of strange guests have been plaguing the Terrowin since its opening, and far too many of them seem to be revolving around the missing girl’s case. She desperately wants to solve the mystery in time to save the girl, but she soon finds that her own life may be in jeopardy as she begins uncovering the hotel’s many secrets.

Killer Accommodations, by author Wynn Kelly, is an introductory short to her Terrowin Hotel cozy mystery series.
A surprise to her, Jamie Sharpe has inherited the hotel from her late uncle. But while she wasn’t expecting it, she’s happily embraced this new life venture and wants this generations-back, family-run hotel a success.
A series of events, definitely unfortunate, kick off at the grand reopening ball. Events like a falling chandelier, a missing young woman…and a dead man.
Jamie, with her faithful pup Rowan, is nothing if not resilient and determined. She’s going to figure out exactly which person or persons is behind it all.
She needs to take a bit of a breather here and there, though, and joins the local chess club. There she meets Paige, head of the club. These two become fast friends, which is a nice bonus for new-to-town Jamie.
This was a cozy, easy read, and a fun mystery to try and solve. It definitely makes a person want to continue with the series and get to know Jamie and the Braddock townsfolk better!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.

This is the prequel to this new and exciting cozy mystery series. Jamie has inherited the Terrowin Hotel from her uncle, who died suddenly.

Opening night things start to happen to discredit Jamie and to try to get her to pack up and leave and sell the Terrowin. But little do these people know, Jamie isn't going anywhere. In fact, she's going to find out what's going on and who is causing trouble and doing the killing.

We also get to meet Paige in this prequel and learn about how they met. You can tell right away that the two of them will be best friends and have each other's back.

This was a super quick, fun and easy read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to read the next book in the series. I previously started with book #3 but didn't have any problem going back and starting from the beginning. Honestly, it was nice being able to read about how she got the Terrowin and how things got started.

Wynn Kelly is an amazing author. She's new to me and boy am I glad I accidentally found her. She knows how to write a cozy mystery without a bunch of nonsense filler. I do hope she keeps writing this series and or starts a new series. Wynn Kelly is an author everyone needs to read, if you like cozy mysteries.

Even though this is a series the storyline was wrapped up beautifully, so this could be read as a stand alone book.

Thank you Wynn Kelly and booksprout for giving me the opportunity to read this book. I truly and honestly enjoyed this book. Now on to book #2!!.

Awesome start to the series , it starts of steady then off to the races. Grandpa Sharpe insists that the Hotel Terrowin that her late Uncle left her is brimming with all sorts of undiscovered treasures. Much to her dismay a girl staying in room 307 vanishes without a trace . Finding out later that the same thing occurred a few years previously too. She needs a timeout and finds herself immersed into a chess club at the cafe, here she meets Paige , the two ladies hitting it off straight away . There’s strange movements around the Hotel and when a body is found in the laundry room she had no choice but to step up and do some sleuthing herself with her trustee dog Rowan. Wynn Kelly has the magic formula with this cosy , it has everything. It’s quirky , it’s a little dark in places , has humour , an hint of danger and suspense wrapped up in a blanket of mystery intrigue and murder most growl… ahem sorry foul , was thinking about Rowan the dog for a moment there and then there’s Paige her sounding board and ally . Very well written, great descriptions and plots and the characters are solid with their own background traits mapped out well.

Fast-Paced, So Hold on Tight !! . . .

Jamie Sharpe inherited the old Terrowin Hotel left to her by her uncle. It doesn’t take long before odd and dangerous “accidents” occur that seem like personal attacks aimed at Jamie. She had been unhappy about the two people who have disappeared from Room 307, one recently (Valerie Winterton) and one from a year before (Alicia Hughes). But the body of Aric Fischer found in the laundry room convinces her to start her own investigation to find out what is happening here and whether any of the murders are somehow connected. Will she uncover any of the hotel’s other secrets along the way? And on a positive note, Jamie does get to meet Paige who quickly becomes her best friend, so it’s not all dire happenings. Will Paige join her in her investigation of Aric’s murder? Will Jamie find out what happened to the missing women? And can she explain the silver glitter that has been showing up in various places lately?

This is a fast-paced story line that will keep the reader wildly guessing as to who did what to whom! This book has wonderful characters, and many possibilities that Jamie impressively pulls together for us. Even the police were impressed! I enjoyed this book and look forward to more in this series.

A little 79 page novella used to introduce what will hopefully be a series of full length books.

There are great “bones” here. Main character, Jamie, has inherited a hotel, currently nearer dilapidated than deluxe. Most of Jamie’s funds are used for partial renovation which is followed by a gala relaunch.

The author creates a well thought-out story that includes having Grandma and Grandpa living nearby, briefest of introduction to hotel employees, guests which include a sleepwalking treasure hunter and a private eye, the town’s shyster real estate agent, a new good friend, and since it’s a cozy mystery, the obligatory pet, a beagle. But in a huge parting from most cozies, we do not have an instant romance. As a matter of fact the author steers clear of a love interest altogether.

The author has given herself a huge amount of good to build on and honestly only the tiniest of minor things to fix. The book was a great surprise and I look forward to more stories of the Terrowin Hotel.

I enjoyed it, a promising first book, but it’s not quite there just yet

While the story was good and the mystery clever, the writing does need a bit of work. The way it’s written, it felt as if it’s ABOUT Jamie and not coming FROM her. A kind of helicopter-y POV, outside looking in. So I felt a distance, I didn’t really feel it, I wanted to get to know Jamie better, I needed more thoughts and feelings. There’s hardly any backstory. For example, what did Jamie do before she inherited the hotel? I haven’t got a clue! And the solution was weirdly without suspense, where we had a whole build up towards the end and then it’s just Jamie suspects someone and then the next moment ‘the police arrested so and so’. So that could have been done with a little more suspense. But like I said, I did enjoy it, I liked the story and the tone, I wanted to read on and on, so that’s why I’m rounding the 3.5 stars I would have given if half stars were possible up to 4 stars. With some more practice this author could be great, the promise is there.

If it wasn't for bad luck...

After inheriting a hotel from her Uncle Leo (my nickname for him), Jamie found herself and the hotel in rough shape. She managed to get the ballroom fixes and ready for reopening. Everything was going fine until the chandelier fell and almost hit her and a guest. Unfortunately, for Jamie this was only the beginning of bad incidents and angry guests. The rumors that the locals want to close down the hotel because of the crime and danger only get worse when a 17 year old guest disappears without a trace. Jaime finds herself in harms way and the situation only gets worse when it looks like it is tied to the past and her Uncle too. Can she figure out who's behind it? Can she find the missing girl? Will the culprit get to Jamie before she can get to them?
This will have you guessing until the end. Think you have it figured out and there's a twist!

This is a prequel novella to the series I’d already started but it was nice to get the back story. Jamie has just inherited a hotel from her uncle and right from the grand opening, things go wrong. There’s murder and mayhem. We learn how Jamie met her best friend Paige. They hit it off right away.
Being a novella, there wasn’t much time to get invested in the story. Once the story got going, it was over quickly. There isn’t much explanation at how the mystery was solved. I don’t think I would have come to the same conclusions Jamie did with the evidence we knew about it. I did enjoy the book and after reading a couple books from this author, I will be looking for more.

I really love this series have read and reviewed the next two books. Killer Accommodations is a look back to when Jamie Sharpe inherits the old Terrowin Hotel from her uncle. She was warned by her grandfather that there are mysteries and secrets in the old hotel. When two people have disappeared from room 307 at different times and another body is found in the laundry room, Jamie decides she must investigate and solve these mysteries so she could save the hotel's reputation and make a go of it. This is a wonderful series that definitely will not disappoint. The author's writing is smooth and takes you from page to page until the surprise ending. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

If I had to pick only one word that best describes my impressions of this story it would be rushed. It seems like there was a bunch of different ideas on how to introduce this hotel, the characters and the series and they got smushed together and don’t quite fit right. Now while I always like a good surprise ending to a mystery, this ending came out of left field. It’s not a bad mystery but things happen so fast that it isn’t a particularly satisfying read. I have read the third book in this series and I liked it, I’m glad I read that first because I don’t think I would’ve after reading this. My two cents. Your mileage may vary.

Killer Accommodations: A Cozy Hotel Murder Mystery is a novella in the Terrowin Hotel Mysteries series by Wynn Kelly.

Jamie inherited the Terrowin Hotel from her uncle. There are a series of unfortunate incidents that have investigating.

This was a novella so it was a quick read. I like the premise of the story, but it seemed like there was too much story to fit in a novella, so up it seemed a bit rushed. The guilty party kind of came from out of the blue. I enjoyed it enough to buy the next book to see what happens with Jamie, Rowan, and the hotel.

Jamie Sharpe has inherited a hotel, which has been in the family for five generations. It is a new venture for her, and she wants to make it a success, but even from opening night, a chandelier crashes the floor, and soon after, a young guest goes missing, and there is a murder. There are similarities to incidents earlier in the hotel’s history. Is there something sinister going on, or an attempt to get Jamie to sell up? Jamie, along with her beagle, Rowan, and friend Paige investigate and discover a killer and more. This book moves at a fast pace, with the strong plot, and believable characters. More, please!

When Jamie takes over the Terrowin Hotel, left to her by her uncle, she did not imagine what comes with it. Acts of what seems like sabotage, someone applying pressure for her to sell, a guest that goes missing in the same room another disappeared from in the past as well. Are they all related or has the past come back to haunt them. A good introduction to this new cozy series of Kelly's that took a little bit to get going but has so much potential for the next chapter in the series.

When Grandpa Sharpe made it clear to Jamie when she inherited the Terrowin Hotel from her uncle that it was busting with forgotten treasures and deadly secrets. Jamie never expected to finding a girl disappearing from room 307. There had been a woman who had disappeared from this very room. But when she finds a body in the laundry room she is forced to do some sleuthing. A lot of mayhem and excitement to this read to make it very entertaining and enjoyable to readers. I received this book free via booksprouts and leave a honest review. I recommend this book to other readers.

Killer Accommodations is a short, intriguing start to a new series. I read one of the subsequent books first so it was good to learn the background of how Jamie inherited the Terrowin Hotel. I love the small-town setting and the historic hotel. Lots of fodder for stories. I figured out who the villain was halfway through the story but I enjoyed seeing Jamie solve the murders. I like Paige and Jamie and look forward to more about them. I'd also like to see a little romance brought into Jamie's life.

A quick cozy read, a mystery with a complex history.

Jaime has inherited The Terrowin, a hotel that has been in her family's possession for 5 generations. She's young and ready to take over after the death of it's previous owner, her uncle. But one mishap after another, seemingly unexplainable and yet suspiciously aimed at Jaime herself and her ownership of the place. Multiple events that don't make sense all together. So Jaime decides to start investigating what she can... before she loses her hotel.

An enjoyable read.

Jamie just inherited a hotel from her Uncle who died. The Hotel needs repairs and she restores the ball room for opening night. Then at the opening the Chandelier comes crashing down almost killing Jamie and some of the guests. Then she discovers the body of a man staying at the hotel an investigator looking for a missing girl who had checked in and then disappeared. Drama, murder and plenty of suspects and more destruction at the hotel has Jamie worried someone is trying to get her business shut down forever. This was so fun and I enjoyed reading it. I recommend it.

This is the 1st book to the terrowin hotel mystery series. You are captured right from the start. Jamie Sharpe inherited a hotel from her uncle and plans a re-opening gala. It doesn't take long for a series of unexplained disasters to start. You will be kept on the edge of your seat as Jamie with the help of her new friend Paige and her trusty pup Rowan begin to find the answers to what is going on. It will keep you captivated until the very end. I highly enjoyed reading this book.

Jamie Sharpe inherits her uncles hotel which has been in the family for generations.
Murphy's law doesn't apply here.
This is supposed to be a cozy.
There is nothing but one disaster after another.
I can't go into them without giving away spoilers.
But, This is NOT a cozy OR a happy book.
After the fifth major disaster at only around 35% knowing there would be more.
I put this one down as a DNF
It was all just a bit too much for a book that's only 86 pages long.

A bad accident happens at Jamie’s grand reopening of the Terrowin Hotel, then several very bad events occur. Can Jamie figure out who is responsible and save her hotel? Intriguing mystery with interesting characters.

I read this book after reading others in this series and I must say the books get better as you progress through the series.

Very quick read that is an introduction to The Terrowin Hotel Mysteries. Not a bad read although it seemed a bit sparse in back story. There really wasn't one. Could be an interesting series with the setting of a hotel and a history of mystery.

I really liked this introduction to the Terrowin Hotel Series. An old, historical building with lots of secrets to reveal, and all sorts of hijinks occurring makes for a complicated case, even without missing people on top of it all. But our intrepid hotel owner figures it out, with help from friends of course. I look forward to reading more about the hotel and its adventures.

Jamie Sharpe has inherited a beautiful, but rundown, hotel. She wants to bring it back to its former glory, but there are those who have other plans for the space. The story is set up now for future books, and it will be fun to follow her progress in bringing this old space back to life.

I will definitely read more of this series. Set in a family run Inn, which is filled with secrets. Missing people, murder, an explosion, and falling chandelier make the Inn a dangerous place to be. Can the clues be discovered before another death occurs? This is a short novella that is packed with intrigue.

Nice, short, but very action-packed novella-length book. There were a lot of things that went wrong at the new hotel, and I was intrigued to find out the whodunit. Some good twists and red herrings. I will probably pick up this author again. I received a free copy of this book from BookFunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review.
