The seriously funny, fabulously flawed Kat Porter has arrived, and she may just steal your heart—not to mention your boyfriend. Readers everywhere will revel in this sharp-witted, well-meaning whirlwind in author Dina Silver’s hilarious new novel, Kat Fight. In her quest for love, Kat makes every wrong turn, juggling two men, one best friend, and her own deeply confused heart’s desires.
Kat Porter is a consummate romantic, eager for her chance to find love and commitment. But after her boyfriend of four years, Marc, begins to grow apathetic and sends her calls straight to voicemail one too many times, Kat finally musters the courage to confront her so-called sweetheart, who seems more interested in dodging her than courting her. Though she’s no fan of ultimatums, Kat is at the end of her considerable wits, and lobs a massive one his way, completely confident that he'll make the right decision when faced with losing her. He doesn't.
With radio silence from Marc, Kat’s lifelong dream of finding a husband and forging a family is decidedly on the skids. That’s when her childhood friend Julie steps in, forcing Kat on a blind date to help her move beyond the break-up. Not only does Kat botch the setup, she instead finds herself in hot pursuit of Julie’s love interest, Ryan Sullivan. A man who, in addition to literally taking her breath away, is the living, breathing personification of everything Kat wants in a husband.
Can Kat connect with the man of her dreams without hurting two of the people she cares most about? At the same time, she must also contend with the quips of her beloved catty coworker Adam, her bi-polar boss Brooke, and a string of comic, unpredictable plot twists. All the while, Kat’s cheeky perspective and generous heart will leave readers adoring every moment of her journey while chuckling and cheering for the ever cute, razor-sharp Kat as she fights to land the love of a lifetime.

About books I review... I am an author, so I appreciate the value of a 5-star review. I know that those stars mean more to an author, than they do to me as the reviewer who's doling them out. That being said, if I like a book at all, chances are I'm going to give it 5-stars. However, in the detailed description of my review is where I will attempt to explain what I actually thought of the book, so people can get a better idea of exactly how much I liked or loved it.
If I did not enjoy a book, or was unable to finish it, I simply will not review it. I have no interest in bashing anyone else's hard work.
I'm so thrilled to present Kat Fight. This book is really close to my heart, because it's loosely based on how I met my husband, and has taken me close to three years to get it right. My goal with Kat Fight was pure, classic, romantic-comedy fun. I hope everyone finds it as entertaining and enjoyable as...well, as my husband does.
And yes, you can bet that any book I've read in excess of 25 times gets an automatic 5-stars from me.
1. Change location from Advertising Agency to Nuclear Submarine
2. Change Heroine from Office Worker to Russian Spy in tight jumpsuit
3. Change Hero from Copyrighter to Werewolf
This book is really aimed at women from their early to mid 20s...not a 40+ man. I think there are some good things in this book but the characters were a universe away from me and I just couldn't bridge that generational gap
Kat Fight is the perfect light hearted romance. It’s a combination of light angst with witty humor that makes you smile for days. Dina Silvers books are some of my favorites because she has a way of creating something that’s cute and funny but at the same time heartfelt. I loved it. Kat is HILARIOUS. I swear reading this was like sitting at home watching a Kate Hudson chick flick and just enjoying the ride. It’s a great book to read if you’re feeling down, perfect for a trip to the beach or after an extremely emotional or angsty book. It’s a good romance that will have your heart fluttering and a goofy grin plastered all over your face.
What’s the book about???
Kat is having a hard time with her longtime love Marc. They have been together for 4 years but Marc doesn't appreciate Kat at all. He stands her up, never takes her calls and just acts like he has no time for her and the relationship At her wits end she makes an impulsive move and breaks things off with Marc to teach him a lesson. She wants him to realize what he has in her. The problem is that Marc calls her bluff and gives her the space she asked for. Kat is heart broken but determined to move on, so her friend Julie decides to set her up on a blind date. The blind date doesn't go as planned but one good thing comes out of it and that is deliciously sweet Ryan. BUT Ryan aka the Chef is there with Kat’s friend Julie **cue the sizzling plot twist**. Things turn interesting when a couple weeks later Ryan is no longer seeing Julie and asks Kat out on a date and Kat accepts.
Can Kat move on from Marc and start new? Will her friend Julie FREAK out that she’s dating someone that Julie dated? Will Marc come waltzing back with his tail tucked between his legs? Will Kat take him back?
These are all the little juicy things you’ll find out while reading Kat Fight. It really is an amazing blend of drama, humor and romance. This is a pick me up book. A happy book. It's the kind of book you read when you want to escape to your happy place!
Overall I would absolutely recommend this and Dina Silvers other book One Pink Line. She has a way with words that leave you feeling good and hopeful. This is a great choice if you are looking for a fast, laugh out loud read.
Kat's boyfriend of four years has been avoiding her. Busy at work, cancelling their dates, not showing up... After all the time they've spent together, Kat's thinking about marriage. Marc's... obviously not. So, Kat decides to show him he should appreciate what he has. She thinks they should either go back to how things were at the beginning, or break up. After another no-show, and a not-so-pleasant phone conversation, she breaks up with him. That should teach him, right? But, Marc seems just fine with that. Now what?
Move on? Enter Julie, Kat's friend, who sets her up on a blind date. Double date, actually. Let's just say that didn't go so well. But, a couple of weeks later, Julie's date Ryan asks Kat out. He's not seeing Julie anymore (though, she doesn't seem to agree with that), and now that he's working with Kat maybe they could just... explore things a bit. You know? Anyway, Ryan's a great guy, Marc's not calling, so why not? Everything should work out just fine... or not so fine. But, we all sure do need a bit of angst in our lives.
So, what's gonna happen there? Will Kat manage to just move on after four years? Will Marc break the radio silence? Will Kat forgive, forget and take him back? What's Julie gonna say when she finds out about Kat and Ryan? Questions, questions... You'll have to read Kat Fight and see for yourself!
And, you really should read it. It's a perfect chick lit. Witty, cute, with many embarrassing moments that are so funny when they're not happening to you (okay, mostly even then), a bit of angst, and twists and turns that will make your head spin. Kat's hilarious! I loved her, though the girl does tend to get confused and all over the place. Not that I blame her. At all. Ryan's the guy I'd gladly date - even if he couldn't cook. And, you'll adore Adam - he's the best gay BFF coworker ever. Not to mention he's the guy every girl needs in her life. Both as a constant source of entertainment, and a shoulder to lean on.
Overall, I enjoyed reading Kat Fight, and highly recommend it, if you're looking for a light romance/comedy. The characters are great (and real), it will most definitely lift your mood, and make you chuckle (and even laugh out loud) often while reading it. You probably shouldn't start late at night, as I'm not sure you'll be able to put it down in the middle of the story. But, other than that, you can't not like it. Oh, and the fact it's (even loosely) based on real life makes it even sweeter in my humble opinion.

Kat’s tired of the waiting game, of the empty promises. Marc has done it again. No phone call and no show. When she tells him to lose her number and she never wants to see him again, I’m thinking, “Go girl!”
So now she’s alone, checking her phone constantly to see if Marc has called. He hasn’t She really needs to move on. Or so her friends tell her.
At least they are supportive and do their best to console her.
When a new man enters her life, the troubles begin. Her best friend, Julie, had first dibs, but Ryan is interested in her. She’s sneaking around with Ryan and it’s going to get back to Julie. Time to fess up.
This book is fun, fun, fun. I felt like I was on a laugh track, playing over and over. My sides hurt. I literally flew through this, the writing was so smooth. The only bumps were Kat’s, and there were plenty of those.
One of my favorite characters, besides Kat, is her BFF Adam. They are tight, like peas in a pod, with no worries of romantic tangles. He’s gay and very involved with her boss.
The interoffice antics of these two is hilarious and it just keeps getting better. I loved this text message between the two.
Kat: I look down as someone is texting me. It’s Adam.
Take a picture.
He texts.
Take a hike.
I respond
He’s watching you.
Adam informs me.
For real?
I ask.
Yes, quit slouching.
He orders.
I’m going to look at him.
I text back and sit straight.
I’m going to pretend I care.
Adam answers.
The text messages and conversations between these two were some of my favorite parts of the book.
Kat’s juggling too many secrets and when she fesses up to Ryan, he wants to step back, take a break.
Kat’s crushed and runs to Adam for a shoulder to cry on. His response:
“…Fine, but don’t pull your little ‘I’m too sad and rejected to call Adam’ routine like you did last night. I want details on this one. Train wrecks like this don’t happen everyday you know.”
She should have known he’d pull the tough love thing.
“Good Lord, you need a hobby.”
Kat’s not a quitter, she’s a fighter and she wants Ryan!
“Gloves on, pride off.”
I started reading this at about 9 P.M. on a Friday night. I can stay up later reading then. I was so engrossed I had no idea what time it was when I turned out the light. Got up early Saturday, my favorite time for reading, made a cup of hot tea at 5;30 A.M. and started right back in. I had to keep heating up my tea because I forgot to drink it.
If this book was a television show, I’d tag it as a ‘sit’ com, but actually it had me almost rolling on the ‘floor.’ I kid you not.
Kat Fight had me hooked from page 1. It starts off with a fight between Kat and her ever-disappointing boyfriend, Marc. After mutually (kind of) deciding to call it quits with Marc, her BFF decides to set her up on a blind date. Well, that didn't go as expected... since Kat quickly found herself making googly-eyes at her BFF Julie's love interest rather than her own.
Now Kat finds herself in a dilemma... should she tell her extremely opinionated, self-absorbed BFF that she has feelings for her date, "The Chef:", start dating him behind her back, or just simply sit back and let him slip away. Well, of course the ever-enjoyable Kat makes the WRONG decision, and finds herself suffering the consequences soon after.
Kat Fight was hilarious, extremely enjoyable, and totally realistic. I felt that I knew Kat personally right away. The characters are awesome - my favorite being Adam, of course. :) And who doesn't love a bipolar emotional mess of a boss to stir up the drama a bit?! ;)
I felt even more connected to this story after hearing Dina say this novel was loosely based on her meeting her husband. I asked her to write more about that, which brings about her guest post below. :)
I absolutely, 100% would recommend this book to every chick-lit lover out there. This is another must-read for 2012 from Dina! She's done it again!! :)
I bought this book after finally meeting Dina Silver in person at Tarryn Fisher's Write or Die Author Retreat. I have read books by her before but never this one. When she said this was loosely based on her meeting her husband I was sold! This was a cute, fun, lighthearted romance that was a quick read because it was so fun I couldn't put it down. I love Kat's wit and humor and watching her find her way to her happy. I am going to read One Pink Line next as that was another book she mentioned at the retreat being loosely based on real life so looking forward to that one next!
Kat Fight is an adorable, light read, it's the good in-between book
I'll be honest, I like my steam, but reading Kat Fight reminded me what kind of books I read... before all the New Adult stuff. It's cute, it's fun and there really isn't too much fuss nor mess.
So, Kat has been in a relationship with her long-standing boyfriend Marc for 4 years. After being stood up for the millionth time, she calls Marc out on it. He doesn't seem very guilty and Kat breaks up with him, because she knows she deserves better. Marc agrees to the break-up and they part ways.
Kat goes back in the dating world and her best friend Julie forces Kat on a double date. Julie is suppose to be set-up with Pete and Julie is going out with Ryan, but somehow Julie and Ryan end up working at the same office together and the chemistry is unstoppable.
My summary isn't entirely true. Yes, Ryan and Kat start to have feelings for each other, but Ryan doesn't cheat on Julie, Ryan and Julie actually stopped dating. It's just that Kat takes her time in letting Julie know that her and Ryan have a thing for each other.
This is my first Dina Silver book and overall, like I said before Fat Fight is adorable. Kat is a pretty level headed Heroine, although she kind of lies, white lies, she is fun and lovable. Ryan is an honest sweet heart. He doesn't play games and pretty much puts himself out there.
The chemistry between Kat and Ryan is mild and kind of tame. There were some "nice" moments, but there wasn't any overly affection, maybe it's just not that kind of read. Also, towards the end, I was getting a but frustrated with Kat, I felt like she was running in circles, but it wasn't drawn out too much, so that was good.
It's an adorable read, you will not be angry, throwing your tablet against the wall or pulling your hair out. I appreciate these kind of reads. I really do.
Dina Silver is currently on tour with CLP Blog Tours and Kat Fight. I absolutely loved Dina’s debut, One Pink Line, and have been eagerly awaiting her sophomore novel. I was not disappointed in the slightest with Kat Fight. Dina once again brings her powerful writing skills, likeable and relatable characters, and a tender story-line that makes this novel land on my Favorites List.
The story opens with Kat fighting once again with her long-term boyfriend, Marc. She hasn’t been feeling the love lately in their relationship, and when she offers Marc an ultimatum, she is met only with silence. For weeks. Now single for the first time in years, Kat is forced to head back to the drawing board so she can find her happy ending. She firmly believes in love, marriage, the whole works...but now who will be her Prince Charming? When her best friend Julie sets up Kat on a blind date, it happens to work – just not with who Julie set up Kat with. Instead, Kat starts to wonder if she is falling for Julie’s date, Ryan. As the story continues, Kat hides her blossoming friendship with Ryan from Julie, which ends up backfiring on her. Marc also comes back in the picture ready to give Kat everything she asked for – but is that what she really wants? With two men, a pissed off BFF, a catty co-worker trying to give her advice and a bi-polar boss making Kat jump through hoops, this story has it all, and makes for an excellent chick lit read.
I felt like I was immediately friends with Kat, and the supporting cast was truly outstanding. Adam, the co-worker, was to die for, and even Brooke kept up her storyline very well. The idea behind the plot was also intriguing, in part because who falls for the friend’s date on their own blind date, but also because Silver has said that it is loosely based on how she met her husband. I loved the ten facts after the book that were included, a fab touch! Kat Fight was engaging and read on a personal level, one for your must-read list and a 5 star novel from Dina Silver.
Kat Fight is a refreshing read. Lord knows I spend all my extra time reading but when I find a book that makes me laugh so hard my ribs hurt I just have to tell the world. This is one of those books that made me laugh and yell at it all the same. I love those kinds of stories where you know something is going to happen but you are not quite sure what is going to happen so you keep reading until you get to it and then your like oh man is this right?
Kat Porter is such an awesome character to read about. She is complex and she is so funny because one minute she is sure of what she wants but in the next she is like should I go for it because I don't want to mess up a good thing. Kat has been with her boyfriend Marc for 4 years. Everything has been going good until one day Marc starts acting weird and not returning Kat's calls and then not wanting to spend time with her. Kat is getting tired of the games he is playing and decides she will do the ultimate no no in a relationship which is give him an ultimatum. Marc not liking that at all decides he has had enough of Kat and breaks things off with her.
Kat is sad and her best friend Julie decides she needs to get back out on the dating scene so she decides to set up Kat with a blind date. The blind date does not go over so well for Kat because she finds herself attracted to someone else. Someone who is off limits, someone that Julie likes and she knows that is a bad thing but she can't help. Ryan is everything Kat wants in a husband even if he is her best friends crush. What is Kat going to do? Can she date Ryan? Does he even like her? Will her heart break or will she chance losing a friendship? What will Kat decide? Will she lose Julie forever or just stay single because the man she wants is off limits?
I cannot tell you how much I LOVED this book! Besides the fact that is so well written, I love that Kat worked at an ad agency in Chicago ( my former profession) and I love that is loosely based on how she met her husband. My favorite character in the book is Adam, Kat's gay best friend. His character made me laugh out loud and for any woman who has ever had a gay boyfriend, you will totally be able to relate and for those of you who haven't, it will make you run out and get yourself one. :) The characters in this book are so honest and real and I love how Dina put the fun facts about Kat Fight at the end so we could get to know Dina just a little bit better. This is these one book I have read of hers and I can't wait to read more! Hurry up Dina! Waiting for the next book!
This book was so addicting, I flew right through it! Now I'm sad it's over! You can easily relate with the main character. All the characters in the book are well developed and have great personalities. This is a fun, light hearted, romance-comedy chick lit book. I can't wait to read more books by this author!
I really liked this book Its perfect if you're just coming off a angsty book ... altho some of Kat's decisions and actions are cringe-worthy But there were laugh out load moments - smart, witty banter spoken and via text / email ... which is always a treat
A hopeless romantic searching for Mr. Right ... a neglectful boyfriend ... an ultimatum ... a longtime BFF ... a double date ... and a crush on the BFF's love interest ... when you put all these variables together, what do get: one hot mess!
Kat Porter is the consummate romantic, she believes in marriage and is looking for Mr. Right/Prince Charming who will sweep her off her feet and give her the happily ever after ending she's dreamed of. She has been in a relationship with Marc Nolan, her college sweetheart for four years. Unfortunately, Marc has become neglectful and has been blowing Kat off one too many times that she finally gives him an ultimatum: lose her number, and he does just that! Kat has to once again start her search for Mr. Right.
Kat's BFF Julie sets her up on a blind double date, but there's a problem: Kat is attracted to Julie's love interest, Ryan Sullivan. Ryan is everything Kat wants in a husband, so they pursue their interest in each other, only to have complications arise when Marc comes back in the picture and wants another chance, and Julie finds out about their relationship. Can Kat hurt her lifelong BFF? Will Kat give Marc a second chance? Will Ryan become Kat's Mr. Right, and will there be a happily ever after ending for them?
Kat Fight is one heck of an entertaining and humorous story about friendships, relationships and the tricky pursuit of finding love. Author Dina Silver once again weaves a witty tale that is simply a laugh-out-loud fun read! Based loosely on the author's own meeting and relationship with her husband, this engaging tale quickly draws the reader into Kat's crazy life, while providing an insightful look into the quirky dynamics of friendships, love triangles, relationships, and meddling office co-workers.
The author has created a cast of characters who are just plain fun to get to know. They are realistic, down-to-earth, normal but quirky people with flaws and issues, who are easily relatable to the reader. Kat is a hot mess, but I couldn't help but cheer her on in her pursuit of finding love. Ryan is every woman's dream man, and I'd take him any day over a neglectful man like Marc. I'd be remiss if I didn't comment on my favorite character, Adam, Kat's co-worker, his cattiness and the banter between them was hilarious, I want to find a friend like Adam!
Kat Fight is a fast paced entertaining book that will tickle your funny bone. Author Dina Silver has a knack for weaving tales with a quirky sense of humor that leaves the reader wanting more! This is one book that you must put on your TBR list, you won't be disappointed!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review and participation in a virtual book tour event hosted by Chick Lit Plus.
Dina Silver's, Kat Fight, is a hilarious chick lit novel that left me wanting more. After reading and loving Silver's first book, One Pink Line (review found HERE,) I had high hopes for Kat Fight. Let me tell you that Silver did NOT disappoint! As soon as I started reading Silver's Kat Fight I was sucked into the story and quickly found myself escaping reality.
Kat Fight is about Kat, a young adult that hates to be referred to as 'cute.' For years she has looked forward to her happily ever after with her college boyfriend, Marc. However, when it starts to look like marriage is only something she is excited for, she gives Marc an ultimatum, which he doesn't take. Kat realizes that she has wasted years of her life and gloomily enters the single dating pool. Unexpectedly, Kat meets Ryan, a new co-worker. As things begin to heat up between Kat and Ryan, Marc has a sudden change of heart. Kat then has to make the decision to permanently toss in the towel on her relationship of years and to take a chance with a new love, or to give Marc another chance.
I quickly fell in love with all of the characters in Kat Fight. What I most enjoyed was Kat's relationship with Adam, her gay best friend. I believe that every scene they were in together had me in stitches due to Adam's sharp and witty tongue. The back and forth dialogue between the two was laugh out loud funny. I especially enjoyed reading the text messages between the bff's, it reminded me of how my best friend and I interact with each other.
Another relationship that I enjoyed reading about was Kat's and her sister, Megan. Sadly, they each have what the other wants. All Kat has ever wanted was to be married with a family. Meanwhile, stay at home mom Megan is married with a baby and thought she was happy until the exhaustion and frustration kicked in. As Megan observes the freedom Kat has being single and on the prowl, she finds herself more unhappy with her life. Megan is also upset that she is asleep in bed by 9 each night with baby throw up on her sweatshirt while her husband maintains his pre-baby lifestyle. I found the whole Kat/Megan relationship to be very realistic!
Dina Silver's Kat Fight is a great novel that I wholeheartedly recommend to chick lit and romance lovers. Dina Silver's writing style and humor reminds me of an earlier Jennifer Weiner. I hope that Silver will be around as a writer for many years to come and I look forward to reading more from her!
Dina Silver has provided me with a complimentary copy of her book, Kat Fight, for the purpose of review.
I loved this novel. It was fun, funny, and such a joy to read. I laughed out loud multiple times and whipped through this novel quickly. Kat Fight is fabulous chick lit with wonderful characters to root for and a romantic, humorous plot.
Kat is a wonderful character. She’s warm, funny and very likeable. But she’s also very confused. Who hasn’t been in her shoes, dumped, confused and unsure of what to do, wavering with decisions, wanting to move forward only to get confused all over again. All the other characters are fabulous too. Her bestie at work, Adam, and his hilarious sarcastic quips made me giggle regularly and his banter with Kat was fabulous to read. And their texts? Hilarious. I wanted to deck Kat’s ex-boyfriend, Marc, in the nose and then kick Kat in the shins for not telling him to get lost every time they cross paths. But then, that’s all part of her character– and her confused antics. I loved the predicaments she gets herself into and even though Kat Fight is a bit predictable, there was enough doubt to keep it fun and I loved the ride regardless.
Unfortunately there were a few editing glitches that jumped out at me including a timing issue where suddenly a few months had passed, which somehow sailed right over my head. Either I completely missed something, or it wasn’t explained nearly as much as it should for those of us half asleep reading late into the night. There were also some long descriptive paragraphs, usually introducing a character, that had my eyes glossing over. But the rest of the novel was so wonderful that I glanced right over them and kept reading, which is a true testament to this novel as small typos and editing errors can vault me right out of a novel, especially if it’s one I’m not all that interested in to begin with.
Since discovering Kat Fight is based in part on how Dina Silver met her husband, I couldn’t wait to race to the end to find out which aspects of of the novel were true and which were fiction and found this to be a really fun and unusual aspect to a novel. If you’re looking for a light-hearted, romantic comedy, pick this one up today!
Thank you to Dina Silver for our review copy. All opinions are our own.
I was actually quite fond of this story :) I love the fact that the events and things that happened in this book were so RELATABLE! I love nothing more than a story where you can be like, “OMGosh! This could actually happen to someone!” It makes reading it that much more special! I know we all love getting lost in imagination-land, but sometimes – it’s refreshing to know that the stories you are reading may have actually happened or COULD happen to someone!
Kat is like most girls, a romantic. She knows what she sees her life as in the romance department & that’s the direction she believes she is headed in. Until she has to give Marc a choice – it’s either me or whatever else there is that seems to be holding your attention more than me. What she didn’t count on was Marc being THAT GUY – who chose the whatever else, instead of her. So naturally, it’s time to move on. Who better than to help you move on than your best friend? So then we meet Julie, who is hell bent on getting Kat over Marc and decides to set her up on a blind date. Except, true to Kat form – things don’t exactly go her way – especially when she starts to find herself eyeing the one person who is very much off-limits!
What does one do when they find themselves falling for the very person their best friend likes? That very best friend who is trying to help you get over one of the hardest times in a girls life? GIRL PROBLEMS! We have all been there && I found it so easy to relate to the feelings being thrown around in this situation. She knows what she wants and she wants to go after it, but not at the cost of hurting her friend. Can she have her happily ever after AND keep her best friend? Again, GIRL PROBLEMS!
This book was lovely! It was charming, realistic and often completely humorous! Seriously, I don’t think I could be any more in love with this book! I even read parts of it to my 6 year old because she kept asking me what was so funny! I would recommend this to anyone who has ANY KIND of romantic bone in their body! Dina Silver wrote such an amazing story! It’s so easy to relate to and you cannot help but connect with the characters.
Kat Fight is the perfect I Need To Get Away read. It’s easy to get into and constantly funny and romantic.
I found the main character, Kat, easy to like. She wasn’t trying too hard — to be funny, find a boyfriend (or husband), please people. She felt very natural. Her relationship with her gay friend, Adam was by far the coolest aspect of the novel. Let me say, I wish I had a friend this awesome. He was always saying the wittiest remarks, yet he didn’t run when things got tough and Kat needed him. Best. Friend. Ever.
One of the love interests, Ryan, is a cook and since finishing this novel I now strongly believe a man who can cook dinner — heck, any meal! — that well is a hot boyfriend. I believe I’ll now be dreaming about this possibility.
Dina Silver did a fabulous job at crafting both of the love interests, however. Marc, Kat’s long-term-boyfriend (aka I-thought-I-was-going-to-marry-you boyfriend) isn’t portrayed, at least not to me, as the bad guy, per se. Most of the time I was rooting for him, despite how mean he was for pretending Kat didn’t exist in his life when they were together. Still, it isn’t hard to imagine all the sorts of reactions you’ll have when your partner suddenly dumps you, which is why I couldn’t hate him, being so vulnerable, even when he ignored her.
But then there was Ryan — the opposite. Always chatting to her, always seeing her, always being romantic. I kept getting this feeling he’d end up being too good to be true. But that was the little jealous part of me who tried to rationalise such an awesome guy must not exist in the real world.
Kat Fight is a wild ride. Kat is running, chasing, and always at the heart of the conflict is Marc vs. Ryan. Kat is conflicted and this adventure (which do I choose?) is compelling, always.
Kat Fight is definitely a recommended read! It’s well-crafted Chic Lit — insightful into relationships, witty, romantic, unputdownable.
This was such a beautiful and charming story! The fact that this book is based on the true events of how Dina’s met her husband just makes it that much more heartwarming. It was such a fun read and I loved the writing. Kat is ready for the next step in her relationship with Marc but he doesn’t seem to noticed. After one missed date too many Kat decides it’s time to make a bold move and call it quits. Maybe then he will see the error of all his choices but fate has another thing in store for her. Going out is not really what Kat wants to be doing but she feels it’s time to stop waiting for what might never happen especially now that she is single again. This is where the fun beings! Going out on a blind date and then going to an all male gay club with one of her best friends are two great scenes in this book. I will forever have an image of the gay club scene stuck in my head. Just sayin’. I could only imagine. LOL! But the blind date works out well for her but not in the way you would think. This is where fate catches up with her. Throughout the book Kat has some awesome adventures, some funny and others heartbreaking but what this whole story comes down to this. Does Kat go back to a relationship that she has built for years with Marc now that he has realized what’s at stake or does she hold on to a new opportunity with a new love with a man who seems to care for her deeply? I loved this book and the ending is perfect! This is the second book I’ve read of Dina’s and have loved both. I can’t wait to see what else she has in store.
Kat is a 26-year-old woman who has just given her boyfriend, Marc Nolan, of four years the boot. She basically tells him if he can't get his act together then he should lose her number and he does just that. In the midst of it all, she is set up on a date by her best friend, Julie, with a guy named Pete. Not only does the date end horrifically, but Kat finds out that she has the hots for Ryan, Julie's love interest; just when she thinks that things couldn't get anymore hectic, they become very hectic. I absolutely loved this book and thought it was magnificent. I think every woman should read this book; it has the right amount of drama balanced with romance and comedy. There were so many elements that I enjoyed about this book; I loved that this novel was loosely based on the author's life, I loved how down to earth Kat was, and I loved that Dina Silver included ten fun facts about the book, at the end. Aside from Kat, my favorite character in the book was Adam, her co-worker; the relationship between Kat and Adam is remarkable. My new mission is to find someone exactly like Adam. Overall, I think this book is great and it should NOT be passed up!!!
Kat! Kat! Kat! Oh boy… this is a great and fabulously hilarious book. I mean really, the plot just had so much going for it. Poor Kat is always struggling with some kind of drama in her life, and it’s horrible to say, but I just had to laugh! AND enjoy the fact that her drama is not in my life. Which made this book even more enjoyable.
The choices Kat makes are entirely believable. She wants the best for her friends and for herself, but these choices get her into a bunch of trouble. It’s the trouble that makes this book and her poor life, so hilarious.
The characters were totally engaging. The conversations were brilliant and I actually found myself laughing out loud multiple times. I would have to read a short part to the hubby because he kept giving me weird looks. I would just tell him that it was totally Dina Silver’s fault!
Sadly, I feel like I can’t say much because there is so much that I want to say but so much that I don’t want to spoil. I definitely have my pic of who I wanted her to be with and who was just NOT good for her. The entire thing is great. And the ending was well worth the read!
Dina Silver does it again! Kat Fight seriously tickles your funny bone. Kat Porter always dreamed of being a bride. The problem is her dreams end up without a suitable groom. When her longtime off and on again boyfriend tells her to cool it, she feels like she'd just flushed five years of marriage investment down the toilet. Her biological clock is ticking, her confidence is shattered, and she's tired of watching "27 Dresses" for the 27th time [okay, maybe I made this up].
A double date with a porno blogger and a guy called "The Chef" turns into disaster as she imbibes a bit too much. Seriously in the throes of withdrawal from marital sweepstakes, Kat despairs of ever landing the right groom for her fantasy wedding.
Ms. Silver's voice is upbeat, humorous and self-deprecating. Kat Fight is an enjoyable read with a happy ending. You'll laugh and cheer for Kat and feel for her when she finally has the courage to admit her feelings and risk humiliation to chase down the slippery groom. A fun and delightful read!
Ok, I am going to start by saying that Dina has now earned herself a spot in my FAVORITE AUTHORS list (see favorite author links on the side of my blog). I was beyond excited about Dina's debut novel One Pink Line, so I had big expectations for Kat Fight. I am so pleased to report that Dina has outdone herself with her second novel Kat Fight. I thought that the story was tight, funny and inspiring. She discusses friendships and the precarious situations people find themselves in while pursuing love. She tells a love story that is imperfect, yet beautiful. I have to say that Kat Fight had some of the best dialogue EVER. I am so in love with Kat's friendship with Adam. Kat and Adam had the best back and forth banter. If only we are all so lucky to have a great friend like Adam. Silver is a force to be noticed. Her writing flows so naturally that you become engrossed in her novels. I did not want the novel to end. Silver is one of the best and I cannot wait to see what else she has up her sleeve! 5 stars!!!!
I love it when I read a self-published book that I adore. Kat Fight by Dina Silver is most definitely one of these. While I have managed to be way more unlucky in love than Kat, I see myself in her. She has a great sense of humor and has quite the tendency to make mountains out of mole hills. Yes, I really do that too.
As Kat’s relationship with Ryan progressed, I found myself grinning with this ginormous goofy grin just because it was so dang cute! My heart would skip a beat or two when they shared a moment.
And frankly – I know it’s weird to say this – the romance was realistic. Marc (the ex) was the ass who took her for granted. Ryan wasn’t perfect and there were definitely obstacles – enough that it almost cost Kat everything. It wasn’t a fairy-tale insta-love scenario. And for that, I love it!
I’d love to just gush and gush about this one – but really – if you’re a fan of a good romance you will most definitely love this one.
When Kats long time boyfriend, Marc, starts taking her for granted, Kat tells him to lose her number. He replies fine. Not quite the way Kat hoped the conversation would go.
After a couple months Kat starts to move on with a new boyfriend, Ryan. Marc tarts coming around asking for another chance, swearing he has changes his ways. This leads to an interesting love triangle.
I requested this book from Dina Silver and am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to read it. It was quick, easy, and had me giggling out loud. The story opened with Kat wanting a wedding and a family. I knew this was a story for me. I cheered for Kat and how she stood up to Marc, even when it would be easier to give in and go back to what is comfortable and known. I giggled especially during the car chase and her quick witty texts to Adam, her best male friend.
I started this book just before bedtime and had to wake-up early to keep reading. I just could not put it down. Kat Fight is a definite must read and a must share.
Kat Fight should not have taken me two days to finish. It is a short book but what put me off was a number of things..
1. The girl goes after her best friend's crush without her knowledge. Not cool. 2. The girl has an ex-boyfriend who wants her back and we don't know why he wants that besides the writer's say so or not say. 3. The love interest is just there. He does not appear that much that I forget he's supposed to be the love interest. And when he does, he's a paper-character. What you see is what you get. And it is nothing. I don't like this at all.
The final blow was how this romance ended. For a guy who gave Kat the silent treatment after her ex proposed to her you'd think he's got to feel something. But now, Kat meets him and says her mind and he's all ok. Man you could have said that when she texted you..
So it is torturous for me to go with this book. Which us a shame since I think this book had potential.
Oh yeah, one thing I liked was the Ten Fun Facts about Kat Fight.. The writer pretty much wrote this book inspired by her own life and fantasies.
Kat fight is a super funny book about this cute character named Kat who is working as an Ad. exec. and having lots of fun with her girlfriends and her gay best friend Adam. Kat is a romantic and really wants to be married but her boyfriend Marc is not ready for commitment. Kat breaks up with Marc and decides to give her heart a break, but her best friend Julie has other plans and decides to help Kat date again. Kat goes on a blind date and meets and quickly falls in love with Ryan and finds herself trying to decide which guy she is destined to be with. Kat is fun, flirty and super cute and just so real that you will feel immediately bonded to her. Kat and her crazy flirtations are so funny that you will read the book quickly because you don't want to miss any of the fun. 5 - stars! For more indie book reviews: Myindieauthorfix.com
I loved it! This is what chick-lit should be: A romantic and humorous story in which we can all relate. Yes, Kat is flawed. After all, who wants to read a book about someone perfect? But Kat is flawed just like you and me. She’s not whiny or insane like some other protagonists I’ve read this year. She’s confused and extremely likeable. I could be her or at least, her friend. The author shows us that even while Kat’s situation gets complicated, she still gives her time to help her co-worker in a difficult situation. And Ryan is the perfect “hero” for Kat. Fans of chick-lit and contemporary romance will really enjoy Kat Fight. I gave it five out of five!
I had previously read and loved Dina Silver's debut novel One Pink Line so I was excited to dive into Kat Fight. As much as I enjoyed OPL I enjoyed Kat Fight even more. I loved the main character, Kat's, turmoil over giving her long-term boyfriend an ultimatum and the shock she felt when he actually called her bluff on it. Add to the mix developing feelings for one of her best friend's love interest and secondary characters who are charming and funny as well as hold their own with their own story-lines and I was hooked. I actually found myself literally LOL'ing throughout the book.
I am truly looking forward to whatever Dina Silver has planned next.
I have a hard time with chick-lit a lot of times. The issues the characters face seem shallow and arbitrary. However, just like with One Pink Line, Ms. Silver fills Kat Fight with strong characters that make up for the less than stellar plot line. I really did enjoy this book, and I read it in less than a day. There were parts that I was literally laughing out loud, and I liked that both of the love interests were viable options for Kat. The relationship issues she had with Marc can be sympathized by most women I think. I especially loved her friend Adam! I am looking forward to the next novel by Dina Silver.
