Let Me In by Callie Croix is a short, very sexy story about allowing those you love to love you back, and learning to trust that they do, unconditionally.

Marine lieutenant Talia Barnett is home on leave for the Thanksgiving holiday, and the last thing she expected was to be met at the airport by Liam Brodie, her secret crush. Talia has had it bad for Liam almost since the first time she laid eyes on him, but skeletons in her closet, fears that her mother’s illness will scare him off, has had Talia keeping him at arm’s length, unwilling to risk their friendship should he learn the truth.

Liam knows that Talia’s hiding something. He doesn’t know what, but he’s done being pushed away. When he discovers her secret and learns the reasons for Talia’s emotional distance and having only a few days to work with, he pulls out all the stops and goes after the woman he’s wanted since the first time he met her.

I absolutely adored Liam in No Holds Barred where he helped his best friend Nathan give his fiancé, Caitlin, her threesome fantasy. When the weekened was over, Liam walked away and ever since then, I’ve been desperately hoping he would get a story of his own. Honestly, I can’t even begin to tell you how thrilled I was when I found his book on netgalley! Just as I fell for him then, I’ve fallen even harder now for this super sexy, devoted, romantic, grounded, dominant man - Liam really is the perfect hero.

Talia’s story is unique – or I should say, her mother’s story is unique. The depression and the way it manifested itself is heartbreaking and seeing how deeply it affected Talia made it tragic. Early on I was drawn to Talia and her devotion to her mother, but there came a point where her insecurities became annoying and just… too much. That said, the epilogue was very sweet and left me feeling contented with this happily ever after ending.

The bottom line - As always, Callie Croix delivers a sexually charged story with the perfect amount of romance. From the first page to the last, I sighed, smiled, fanned myself and just couldn’t put this book down. I’m so looking forward to more by this author!

Note: I feel I should mention that this story is labeled BDSM and while it’s hinted at, it never happens.

My thanks to netgalley.com and Carina Press for providing me with a review copy of this book.

Let me start by saying that this is flagged as a BDSM and it isn't which may disappoint some readers.

Talia is a Marine and is home on leave but she expects to have a quiet and lonely Thanksgiving as she really doesn't want to see her mother. When she arrived at the airport she was very surprised to see her best friend Angie with her very sexy and unsettling brother whom Talia had spent the last few years trying to avoid as she was attracted and started having feelings for him. It would seem that he shared that attraction but Talia was very insecure and ashamed, and could not allow herself to trust anyone with the truth of what her childhood was like and the condition that her mother suffers with.

I really liked Liam a lot. He also felt the attraction and although he had tried to persue a relationship with Talia over the last few years he respected that she didn't want to change the nature of their friendship. However his feelings for her had developed and he knew that he had to try and form a relationship with her or move on with his life. Although I understood why Talia was like she was it did begin to annoy me towards the end and when she did finally open up to Liam I instantly thought about time too!

Overall a very good read!

This one, provided by netgalley, was OK. I picked it up, hoping for some seriously smutty smut, you know, two-Marines-get-it-on-on-leave-and-cause-my-kindle-to-explode type smut. I even filed it under my steamy-dirty-smut bookshelf, thinking this would have some knock-your-socks off sexy bits. Well, it did. Kinda. But I had to downgrade it to my slightly-smutty-beach-fluff shelf instead, because I just felt it wasn't quite hot enough.

Now, it wasn't because there wasn't a fair amount of hide-the-sausage, because there was. In fact, it did seem to take up a decent amount of word count. But, it was just that I felt, for me personally, it would have been better with one really smokin' hot scene (you know, having-to-fan-myself-with-my-ticket-on-the-train-home-from-the-office type hot), and then more words spent on really getting inside the head of the hero and/or heroine. Instead, there were two or three quite hot scenes, but I just felt that it was just a bit lacking.

So, what did I like?

- I liked both the hero and heroine. I thought they were both pretty great characters, and for a novella, we were able to get to know the heroine in quite a lot of detail. Her issues were very real and I liked that she was a very private, self-reliant person, really quite different from the usual characters that inhabit Romancelandia. The hero we got to know a bit less well, and I honestly would have preferred a bit more word count on him.

- I liked that the hero and heroine were both in the military, we were given enough information to form a sketch of what they do, but that the author didn't dwell on pointless details. We're told why the heroine likes intelligence work, and then it's left at that.

- I fundamentally liked the plot. Two people who've known each other for two years, fancy the pants off each other, but have jobs that take them away for long periods of time, and also have barriers to actually getting it on... It's a plot that worked for me.

What I didn't like so much..

- I honestly felt that the hero was a bit short-changed in the character-building department. I got the feeling he was a really nice guy, but came across as a bit of a KnowItAll jerk with an incredibly overactive libido (OK, so there's nothing wrong with that second bit..). He just "knew" what the heroine needed and I found that incredibly condescending. The heroine is a Lieutenant in the frikkin' Marines, for Christ's sake! She works in Intelligence and the work she does in the office can have incredibly important ramifications for her colleagues in the field. She's not an idiot and even if she doesn't know her own mind, she's entitled to not know her own mind. She's also entitled to not actually just take as read that the hero loves her, without him telling her that, and she's also entitled to be a tad unsure when the hero states that he'll never leave her, even though every other person she's ever been remotely close to has upped and left her. Now, I really felt that with a bit more character development, the hero would have come across as a really fascinating person. There was hints of the nice guy with dominant traits, but I didn't really want hints, I wanted evidence.

- The book is set up with the hero as the dom hoping that the heroine is his dream submissive, and I really hoped that it could have convincingly lead me to agree, but the dom-submissive stuff was almost completely left out, except for a couple of references that the heroine likes the idea of being tied up. I'm not really into the BDSM stuff, but there was so little I felt short-changed.

- The ending was way, way too bloody perfect for me. It was so saccharine-sweet perfect that I almost felt myself reaching for the trash can to vomit into, whilst keeping one eye out for The Secret Baby to come crawling out of the heroine's duffel bag. Why does a novella have to tie up all the loose ends? It doesn't! Just leave the issues with the Mom unresolved! Just leave the hero's perfect family out of the ending! Life is messy and most romance readers can handle that, particularly in 37,000 words.

So, 3 stars. I quite enjoyed it. Published May 21.

3 stars.

Novellas are such a detriment to themselves because there's only so much content and depth that can be covered in such a small amount of words. I always seem to rate them quite low because of this.

Talia and Liam's story was hot, there's no denying that. The sexing was my favourite part. The plot was a little random though and I had to force myself to keep interested. I feel bad saying that about a book that was written by my favourite RS author (Kaylea Cross writing as her erotica pen name Callie Croix); but unfortunately it's true. Talia's mother's mental health issue was something that struck close to my heart, but it was just not a subject that I gloried in reading about in a novella length book. There wasn't enough time or space to allow the author to sink her teeth into that story arc so it fell a little flat for me.

Talia's martyr act drove me a little bonkers but I understood her self-preservation to a point. Liam was definitely hot and sexy and made this worth reading. Not too bad for what it was.

Let Me In is an enjoyable novella with a hero who has more than sex appeal. Liam Brodie, former Marine and military contractor, has an ideal combination of qualities to satiate contemporary erotic romance fans.

The Story
Marine Lieutenant Talia Barnett arrives home for Thanksgiving, which should be a happy occasion, but Talia’s home has issues attached. Fortunately, she has become an unofficial member of her best friend’s family. The Brodie family is happy, stable, and everything she has ever wanted. Her attraction to Liam Brodie is an unwanted complication. She will not risk losing this family for a relationship that will surely break like all her others. In Talia’s experience, deployments and a mentally ill mother are too much for boyfriends to accept.

Liam Brodie has been attracted to Talia since the first day he met her. He appreciates her inner strength and independence. She keeps her distance, but he catches her longing glances. Now, he’s going to push for more and hope she lets him into her life.

My Thoughts
Talia has a mother with suffering from major depression expressed in a severe case of hoarding , which is a first I’ve seen in a romance. Talia feels helpless, ashamed, angry, and enjoys the escape military life provides. I felt sympathy for her character as her secret spills out for Liam to see. Eventually, my sympathy waned as her character repeatedly hit the same roadblock.

It was Liam Brodie who really shined in this short story. He’s capable of putting his need and wants aside to comfort Talia. He displays a chivalry that is not always common in BDSM alpha heroes. I really loved that! He tries to solve their relationship issues with meaningful dialogue rather than hot steamy sex.

Let Me In is the first book I have read by Callie Croix and I will be reading her work again. There is a book that precedes this novella, but this book can stand alone. (The previous book’s hero and heroine from No Holds Barred is referred to once.) This story is tight and the hero engaging. The heroine was the weakest link, which may depend on the reader. The BDSM is light and may appeal to contemporary romance fans who appreciate explicit love scenes.

Final Score: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Let Me In is an awesome short story. It's only 103 pages but I loved it!

Talia has just come home on leave from the marines. Unfortunately for her it's Thanksgiving and holidays are not something she looks forward to. Her only family that she has is her mother and she is definitely not the June Cleaver type. She has major issues. A pang of sadness goes through her when she sees all the families welcoming home her fellow serviceman with no one to greet her. To her utter shock, she finds Angie and Liam Brodie, waiting for her. Angie has been her best friend for the past two years and Liam is the brother that Talia has secretly lusted over all that time. Their family is picture perfect and has treated her like a daughter since Angie and she have become friends. This is why Talia doesn't want to start anything with Liam, even though he's made it clear in the past he's interested. She can't bear to lose the love the Brodie's show her if something goes wrong with Liam. She feels certain if Liam found out the secret of her mother's problems he couldn't bear to stay with her. No other man has.

Liam has wanted Talia for quite some time. Now that she's back stateside, he plans on making her let him in. He knows her family life hasn't been the greatest and that's the reason she puts up walls but he's determined to get inside. He won't take no for an answer:

"You know, I'm really sick of you shutting me out," he said in a low voice, tracing his thumbs over her cheekbones. Trapped by his stare, she gazed up at him, her mind wiped blank. It took her a moment to find her voice. "I haven't--" "Yeah, you have. But not anymore, because that shit ends right here and now."

Liam's had a wild side had his share of women but Talia is someone he could see himself getting serious with. He admires her service in the marines and her strong character.

This story as I said before is really short but don't let that fool you. It packs a punch. The spice in this is done really well, feeling right for the story line. I don't know if I'd even call it spice, it's more of a scorcher! If you want a sweet story with a high level of HOT this is the one for you!

Thank you Netgalley and Carina Press for allowing me to read this.

This book exemplifies why I hate this trope.

H is h's best friends brother. H has always liked h platonically but she had a crush on him for years

H is a manho, has flings, affairs, threesomes( even one with his friends fiance) etc. all over the place. He propositioned h 2 yrs back - but since h knew H didn't do commitment - she passed. She still pines for him though. When h says no, H is not heartbroken by any means, he just takes h's refusal in stride - no hard feelings - and continues on to next woman, manho-ing away!!

When they meet in this book, H is 35 yrs old. He is tired of his ways and wants to settle down , he's looking for a 'loyal dependable woman', and lo' the h is around, so he thinks why not?,he was always attracted to her. And so the wooing starts...

And at that point I DNF-ed. I just hate books like these.
Frankly do not like manho H's, but I do read some of them - the ones where the said manho sees the h and his world up-ends - where H is all in for h and no other woman would do and where he goes all out to get her.

But this, this isn't what I consider romance:(

I knew I loved you Liam, more than I love Nate.

This was a great story. Talia pissed me off....a lot! I just really felt that Liam didn't deserve her. I realise she was going through a lot, but Liam was offering to help and be there for her, and she just constantly pushed her away.

Liam was wonderful, incredibly sweet and a powerful alpha all rolled into one. I really liked everything about him.

Let Me In, was a perfect and quick read. It will get you a little hot under the collar, but hey, that's what these books are there for :)

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more by Callie Croix.

Reread October 2016 Didn't care for this one the second time around as much as the first. Dropped a star.

I think I'm about done with my hetero fix for awhile. This was another good one. I love my military men! This one had some great sex and angst. Now I'm all ready to get back to M/M romance and man-on-man action.

First, I just have to say this novella started up my unadulterated weekend of smutty reads that left my head stuck in a cloud of dirty thoughts. I was so glad I was able to pick this up from NetGalley because I ended up loving this little short story which packed some heat and emotional baggage. Since Let Me In is a novella (less than forty thousand words) I can't tell you too much of what happens without giving up the whole story. A lot happen within a short period of time and the author dives in to some very emotional family drama. It's this conflict that had me loving the story because although Talia's abandonment issues aren't all that uncommon it's the reasons behind it that makes if different from everything else that I've read in the past.

Talia was a great lead and I found myself really relating to her. She's a Marine (Oorah!) and is great at what she does. Being a Marine, she's strong, independent and loyal but underneath her tough exterior she's also vulnerable and insecure. She's been crushing on her best friend's brother, Liam, for over two years. Too scared to put her friendship with Liam and close relationship with his family at risk, she keeps her feelings to herself. Her reasons for keeping her feelings at bay is palpable and probably something I'd do myself.

"What are you going to do?"
What I've wanted to do to you for almost two years.
"Shhh. Let me in"

Liam is a very drool worthy character. As a former Marine, he's a pure 100% Alpha male. It's hinted that he's had an illustrious sexual past and likes to delve into a little BDSM in the boudoir. Since meeting Talia he's harbored feelings for her but never really pursued it because Talia had always kept him at arm's length. No longer able to keep his feelings and desire for Talia at bay, Liam makes his intentions known and at the same time forces Talia to confess the same desires she's felt for him. Although the author didn't spend too much time with Liam's past the time spent with him makes the reader desire him.

The only complaint I had with Let Me In was that I wished it were a little longer. Croix writes some very sexy love scenes and had me wishing we could gotten even more action in the bedroom. Liam displayed his dominant nature and Talia's submissive parts came out and I would have loved to explore that aspect a little more. Call me a horny thirty something but I really wanted to see Liam showing Talia the kind of kinky activities he's into.

Let Me In was a very enjoyable read and Croix leaves the reader with a satisfying and viable ending. Her characters were both believable and relatable. I also loved that Talia was of Asian decent because let's be honest, we don't see very many Asian characters in books, television or movies. After reading Let Me In, it had me craving more of Croix's work especially No Holds Barred which tells the story of Liam's threesome with his best friend and his fiance (this is pre Talia of course!) So if you're pressed for time but craving a good steamy but emotional romance read then I wold highly recommend picking up Let Me In.

Slick's review posted on Guilty Pleasures

I enjoy reading books about military heroes, so I was excited to read about a military heroine! Luckily our hero is ex-military and understands the stress and dedication it takes to live the military life.

Several words describe Talia Barnett; Marine, daughter, friend, submissive…what? That’s exactly what she thinks when she realizes she enjoys being dominated by her friend’s older brother. Liam Brodie is an ex-Marine, government contractor, and one hot, dominant alpha male. But can he convince Talia he’s exactly what she needs?

The story begins as Talia arrives in Colorado right before the Thanksgiving holiday. She’s not sure why she came “home” because she hasn’t really had a home for a long time. Although her Mother is still alive, they have a volatile relationship because her Mother has some severe issues. The last thing she expects is to be met at the airport by her friend Angie and Angie’s brother, Liam who has starred in her fantasies for the past two years.

Liam has wanted Talia since he met her, he made that known early on but she rejected him. Liam has a reputation for quick romances and Talia doesn’t want to loose her connection to his family. A family that she has deemed perfect and one she would very much like to call her own.

During her visit Liam helps Talia with an incident involving her Mother and comforts her afterwards. Comfort leads to much more. They combust once together and when Liam goes all dominant on Talia, she realizes he’s exactly what she needs. Liam (bless his heart) tries to break through to Talia because he knows they are right for each other. Talia’s fears make her push Liam away to the point where he decides to give her the space she wants.

Although this is a very short novella, there is a lot of emotion and content. I think most women would love a Liam in their life. I’m not sure there are too many men whose egos would have put up with Talia. I would have liked a little more time with this couple especially at the end. Overall, I very much enjoyed this book and was equally happy when I got to the end and found out Liam had a small role in an earlier book which I immediately purchased and read!

3.5 - good

A lady marine is on leave. Leaving the plane she is surprised to be greeted by her best friend and her best friends brother whom she has always had the hots for, but finds him out of her league. She believes herself to be a pity case, having a horder mother who she has no relationship with. And his family is so close & have accepted her in as one of their own, making a possible relationship awkward.

I have definitely read better, but this was a pretty good novella. It jumped on the hording band wagon & the psychology of one in this book, paralell to all the shows now out about it.

I wasn't very convinced with the reaction of the daughter & her need to let someone else be in control. I think they would swing more into the OCD have to be in control mode, but thats just me.

Novellas rarely fall into the 4 or 5 star range for me because they are rarely epic novels.

Quick Rundown: Marine Lieutenant, Talia Barnett has arrived home, on leave from Kandahar for Thanksgiving. She fantasizes about have family at the airport waiting to great her but knows that is just a dream. Once outside the main gates, she heads out to hail a cab and much to her surprise is greeted by her best friend Angela and Angela’s brother, Liam. Angela and Liam’s family have opened their door and hearts to Talia for the past couple of years. Liam, also a Marine, has always had a strong attraction for Talia ever since she and his sister became best friends. Both Liam and Talia have flirted with the other but have never pursued anything more but this Thanksgiving Liam is determined to not let Talia give him an easy brush off.

First Impression: The sexual tension was immediate and you were fully aware that both Liam and Talia had a mutual attraction that both wanted to pursue. Both have military jobs where they are stationed in different locations overseas so the attraction has remained a fantasy for both until now. With Liam’s alpha nature, I expected it would take little convincing of Talia to succumb to his honesty and charm but that was not the case.

The heroine: Talia is a complex woman. She has no fear when on duty as a marine, but when faced with the lack of a real family and her mother’s mental illness, she resorts back to a scared child that longs for her problems to go away. She is ashamed of her mother’s behavior to the point that she shuts herself off from pursuing a relationship and refuses help from Liam and his family when it comes to dealing with her mother’s mental illness.

The hero: Liam is the typical alpha male that knows what he wants but has enough control and patience in order to go about getting it. He presents a strong alpha demeanor and is gentleman with a caring heart and a desire to make the lives of those he cares about a little easier with his help. Liam has wanted to pursue a relationship with Talia for the past two years but has not pushed her even though it is obvious she has mutual feelings for him that she is scared to pursue. Now that she is home on leave, he is no longer allowing her to call all the shots. He is determined to make Talia face the sexual tension and desire they have suppressed for too long.

What worked: I thought the author did well in grazing the surface with mental illness and hoarding without allowing it to form a heaviness over the entire story. The chemistry and sexual tension between Liam and Talia was prominent and you knew that they would eventually get together for a one time release or for something deeper.

What didn’t work: Talia’s character was exhausting for me throughout most of the story. She is an independent woman, fierce in the battlefield but fragile when it comes to dealing with her mother’s mental health issues and bearing the burden of trying to fix the complicated situation. At times I felt antsy and irritable while reading the story because that was the impression I had of the heroine. She was always on edge and could never breathe and just “be”. I also did not like her constant indecision in regard to her feelings for Liam. Her pride and insecurities played a tug of war with Liam’s emotions that became so repetitive and annoying that I began to question what the attraction was that caused Liam to continue his pursuit.

Final Conclusion: The ending was wrapped a little too nice and perfect in my opinion given the issues with Talia and her mom. I believe it would have been more realistic if her mother’s illness would have remained unresolved while in pursuit of recovery. Finally, this story is categorized as BDSM and it is not. If you go in hoping to read a dominant/submissive relationship, you will be disappointed. Liam’s alpha male personality is all you will get in the form of control.

Favorite Quote:

“He dragged his tongue across the captive nipple, sucking firmly, loving the wild little moans she gave and the feel of her arms holding him close. She was finally accepting her need for him, at least in this way, even if she refused to voice it aloud. Her body knew the truth, and he had no qualms about reinforcing that message.”

"What are you going to do?" What I've wanted to do to you for almost two years. "Shhh. Let me in."

In this short and sweet novella Talia, who is a Marine, is coming home for Thanksgiving. Not ecstatic about her leave falling on Thanksgiving weekend, Talia's plagued with loneliness. To her surprise her best friend and her sex on wheels brother...Liam, picks her up from the airport and insist that she spend the holidays with them. Having a sick mother and embarrassed about her past, Talia has the wall put up around her. Not wanting to feel like a charity case, she doesn't realize that Liam's family adores her and is already part of the family.

Talia has been in love with Liam for a long time and doesn't feel that she's worthy. Liam has been adamant about them becoming more than friends but she puts up this lame excuse of not wanting to ruin their friendship or lose the only normal family thats she's known! But this time around, Liam is determined to change her mind and break down those walls of hers once and for all.....

I greatly enjoyed this story. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars had nothing to do with the writing or the author, it was just that I was sick and tired of Talia's self-loathing and stubbornness when it came to Liam and his family! I understood her misgivings for not wanting to be vulnerable around him and her embarrassment of her mother and her issues. But after a while it was exhausting! I mean come on....she's known the dude for a couple of years...his family as well, and she just wouldn't let them in. Didn't realize that they loved her as part of the family. It was obvious that Liam cared for her and wanted more than a physical relationship, but she didn't even want to give it a shot! She just wanted to do everything on her own. Not realizing that sometimes, you just need someone to lean on, to be there for you the best way they know how.

But other than that....the story was perfect. And was a great love story that pulled at my heart strings. Some scenes were a little hard because of what she's going through with her mother and I definitely can relate to that since one of my parents is an alcoholic and I know how she felt with wanting to walk away from her mother but not finding it in her heart to actually do it, no matter how shitty she treats her. There were also some smokin' hot interactions between Liam and Talia, they were just great! I would definitely read more from this author and can't wait to read that naughty little scene between Liam's threeway!! I recommend this to my girls that love some good 'ol erotic romance, you won't be disappointed.

When Talia returns home from the marines, she is welcomed by her best friend and her old brother, Liam. For years, Tal has been considered a great family friend to Liam but he doesn’t know that she harbors some intense feelings for him.

As a shameless flirt, Liam brings forth a happiness in Talia that she cannot deny. With her mother’s mental illness weighing down on her shoulder and the stress of her job, she loves that she is just able to be herself while in Liam’s company.

However, when Liam accompanies her to visit her home and her mother, Talia’s life is exposed. He sees the mess - and in this case, it’s a literal mess because her mother is a hoarder – of her life and Talia feels embarrassed by it. However, Liam doesn’t grimace at the sight of the stacks of useless stuff that pack her mother’s home. He doesn’t flinch with her mother tries to attack those who are threatening to take away her possessions. He is simply there, giving Talia his much needed presence for when she eventually breaks down.

I loved this book. For a short story, Croix is able to convey the pain and embarrassment that family members of hoarders experience. Though Talia loves her mother unconditionally, she sometimes feels embarrassed when her mother lashes out or when others see the collection of useless junk that her mother holds dear.

The spotlight on the mental illness really sparked my interests because that’s what I went to school for. So to see that in a book and to see how Croix handled it was interesting. I think she did an excellent job of outlining the daily troubles Talia’s mother experiences.

Croix does a great and believable job of building the trust between Tal and Liam. Though there are some times when Tal crawls back inside herself, I thought it brought some great moments that made the ending that much more satisfying. I really enjoyed the epilogue. It ended so perfectly.

But for me, the best part of this book is Liam. I wish there were more men like Liam out there. He was so caring and so understanding of Talia’s feelings that he fell right into my heart early on in this book. Even though Talia pushed him away, both physically and emotionally, Liam still stood his ground. And I absolutely loved that about him. There’s also the added bonus of him being dominant in bed and the fact that he loves giving out orders.

LET ME IN is a great story that portrays the great and the not-so-great times of life and the formation of a bond unbroken by the darker times. I would definitely recommend this book to readers!

I saw this book offered on Netgalley, and I just had to grab it. I know that Carina has a very small selection of BDSM books, and when I see BDSM I kinda of snatch without really thinking about it. I am going to do my best with this review, I have nothing against this author or the actual book for giving it a 3.5 rating. I think if I went into it expecting something totally different, I would have savored the story a lot more and wouldn’t have been disappointed by the end.

First, this story is a fantastic love story. Callie is a very strong writer with a fantastic voice. She weaves a romantic tale of personal demons, and how one can battle through them to not lose out on something great in your life. My issue more comes from what the story said it was about and how it was labeled genre wise.

I am not sure this book should be in the BDSM section. Yes, it has some very light, and I mean very light D/s elements. The heroine is being told by the hero to put her arms over her head and keep them there, pretty much the beginning stages of a D/s relationship; with the hero having random thoughts of tying up and dominating the heroine. Ok, tease me once, and you have a great tension build. Tease me twice and not deliver still and I start to get annoyed. Tease me a third time with bondage and submission, and I am just going to be irritated; which, ultimately, that is how I finished this book. It was like coming so close to that orgasm, it is there, just resting, waiting for a really good spanking—that never comes. The man comes before you can have your relief and you never find yours. It was like vanilla sex with the promise of something much more, and it never happening. The story is being sold in the BDSM of Carina, and marked that he is a sexual dominant. I got that, but I was never shown that.

At the end of the day it is a very sexual, erotic romance novel with a HEA, and it made me go “Oh, well, that’s not what I grabbed.”

I may sound harsh in my judgments. I know that a lot of readers will LOVE this story. It is sweet, sexy, the sex scenes are hot, the male is very Alpha and he does very much deliver. For me, I was sold something different than what I read. That is my main issue.

That being said, I do recommend this book. Readers of sugar kink with love this taboo little tail. It will leave you guessing till the end and will deliver for all you fans of a HEA!

I love any story with military heroes and this was no exception. Liam, a former Marine, has always had a crush on Talia, but she's always kept him at a distance. Now she's home on leave in time for Thanksgiving, but the nostalgia all around her just makes her feel even more lonely. When her best friend and her hot, older brother, Liam, surprise her at the airport, she's overwhelmed. They've always seen her as a part of their family, but she's never told them the full truth about her only living relative, her mother. While Liam's crush flames anew upon seeing her again, he knows she's hiding something from him. When he finds out about her secret, Talia is even more determined to stay away from Liam, and thwart his advances. In a moment of grief and weakness, she succumbs to his charms. Liam thinks he's gained serious ground with her only to find out that she's more stubborn than he is.

There aren't any BDSM elements in this story. Liam is simply one hell of an alpha male. He wants her badly, but he's incredibly sweet and gentle when it comes to her. I fell for him immediately.

Talia frustrated me to no end. In the beginning I understood her shame and wanting to keep her mother's condition a secret. I didn't really understand her assumptions that Liam's family would shun her because of it, after having known her for so long. I felt really sorry for Liam towards the end after the second rejection. I would have liked to have read her thoughts when she had her epiphany. I wanted to see it and not be told what she's ultimately decided. I'd still read this again, but mainly because of Liam :)

If you read this, make sure you read No Holds Barred first. I didn't, but it takes place before Let Me In. When Liam and Talia are catching up, he tells her that his friend Nathan got married. He goes on to remember the threesome he participated in with Nathan and his then fiancee Cait. He also vows never to tell Talia about that. I got so wrapped up in Talia and Liam, reading about him with the other couple just seems a little like a betrayal. I may change my mind because my curiosity is getting the better of me.

Home from the Middle East for Thanksgiving, marine Talia Barnett doesn’t really have a home to go to. Her mother is a hoarder and not on good terms with Talia, but that doesn’t mean Talia doesn’t have guilt. She doesn’t know how to help her mom, and feels much shame at the entire situation. But to her surprise, her good friend Angie is waiting at the airport, determined to take her home with her. Angie’s entire family is very supportive of Talia, and welcomes her with open arms. But it all makes Talia feel very uncomfortable, preferring to hide away in a hotel room by herself for the holidays. But there is one man who won’t let her hide.

Liam, a former marine (and Angie’s brother) has always had a crush on Talia. But she never lets her guard down enough for him to do anything about it. Liam is determined this time to break her down and let him in.

While this book is written well (I’m a big fan of this author’s romantic suspense series published under the name Kaylea Cross) I just wasn’t a fan of this heroine. I think the issues of hoarding and the embarrassment that comes with it were handled well. But Talia just got on my nerves. For me, she pushed everyone away so much, I didn’t really enjoy reading about her. She is kind of a big downer and I just wanted to give her a little shake. Or at least have more page time with her as a happier person.

I did have a soft spot for Liam. I’m weak for the type of hero he is – quiet, serious, and no-nonsense. I did think his dominant side in the bedroom felt a tiny bit forced. I like that he was in control, but when we are told he likes bindings and blindfolds, I don’t know. It didn’t feel organic for him to think that. I also find it odd that the publisher categorizes this as BDSM. While it is very briefly mentioned, I really feel like this is a straight contemporary. Even Liam’s dominant side didn’t cross over into BDSM territory, in my opinion. We do get hot love scenes, but it didn’t have a BDSM feel.

Talia is a Lt. in the Marine corp who comes home for Thanksgiving. Every time she comes home she has to deal with her mother who is nothing short of a handful due to her depression. Liam meets Talia at the airport with his sister and takes her back to his parents house for dinner. Afterwards Liam makes his feelings known for Talia but she pushes him away for fear of losing not only his friendship but the relationship she has with his family. She's always wanted a close family relationship like Liam has with his family and if things end badly between Talia and Liam she may jeopardize that.

This was not at all what I thought it was going to be. First off Marine's don't wear their cammies out in public... ever! So no wonder the customs guy thought she was a "soldier"... he thought she was in the Army flying around in her cammies. I also didn't really feel for the characters, I was really detached from them. Thalia had a messed up life as a kid and you get a glimpse of what her mother is like when she goes to visit her mother while she's getting evicted from her house due to her hoarding. The mother goes ballistic and starts thrashing around like a lunatic while Thalia is trying to hold her down. Liam has to step in and secures her down on the floor until the police can handcuff her. Liam had no clue what her family situation was but after what happens he is dead set on taking care of Thalia even if she refuses to acknowledge the attraction between them. I don't know why but for some reason I just couldn't connect with the characters.

I love a good military romance so when I saw the blurb on this one I just had to read it so requested it from Net Galley. This was my first time reading this author and I was told so many good things about her awesome heroes. I was not disappointed in my expectation on that score. ;D

Talia is a Marine coming home on leave to what she thinks is to be a long lonely break. Her eyes gaze enviously on all the happy reunions at the airport. To her surprise, her childhood friend, Angela, and her brother Liam who Talia has been crushing on for years come to meet her. Their family has been good to Talia since she was a teenager when her own mom (and only near relation) is not there for her. Talia carries a boatload of bad, negative thinking about herself which makes her push everyone away. She thinks she's not good enough to be included in family like Liam's and she is gun shy of men leaving her from her dad all the way through a slough of men who can't deal with her mom's issues. Talia loves Liam and his family so much that she is afraid to let them in on her life just in case they are disgusted by her home life and toss her aside.

Liam an ex-marine and now civilian contractor for the military, has had a thing for Talia for some time. He put himself out there for a relationship before, but it was a no-go. Now, more than ever, he wants a relationship with her. He sees the possibility of a long-term relationship with Talia who is the strong kind of woman who can keep up with his darker sexual needs. But as much as her eyes smolder with interest, she still keeps him at a distance. This time, Liam's done with distance and Talia will just have to accept that.

The story is more of a novella so Callie Croix did a great job of keeping the plot fairly simple and the pacing moving right along. I loved how the story swapped perspectives between Talia and Liam since it was told between the push and pull between them for Talia to let Liam into her life. There was also really good pacing in the build up of the relationship side though the smolder flared to full-on fire as soon as they were able to get alone. It did not feel rushed since they already knew each other and Talia's just coming home from duty and has a hot alpha male staring back with interest (mmhmm, nuff said).

The characters were layered and I enjoyed getting to know them. As said before, Talia's got a lot to deal with in her life. It's pretty bad when she prefers the military life of Afghanistan as more peaceful to life at home. I have to confess that there did come a point in the story that I grew irritated with her and wanted to bop her for holding onto her issues too long after Liam came through for her more than once (okay, yeah, so I didn't even figuratively bop her because she's a marine and would take me down in a heart beat). Liam as a character deserves a gold medal for hanging in there with her and hang on tenaciously he did. Good thing he's a strong, dominate guy who knows what he wants and goes after it with a 'take no prisoners' approach. He was also the tender supportive friend who was just 'there' and not demanding anything.

Oh, I should mention that there were hints though no actual scenes of BDSM if that makes a difference to a reader.

So, it was a nice read that I would recommend to any folk who love military romances on the steamy side with strong main characters.

I have never read anything by this author and later found out that the main character (Liam) in this book was featured in a previous book. So I guess this is more like a second book in a series, but while reading it I had no idea I was really missing out on anything. Looking back it probably would have made me even more interested in Liam by providing more background into his character as this was a short book.

Anyway, this was a sexy short story about a character named Liam who is ex military and Talia who is currently in the military. Talia is home on leave and disappointed when she shows up the airport knowing that no one will be there to great her. To her surprise Liam and his sister meet her outside the airport to take her to their house for Thanksgiving. Liam sees Talia and has to hold himself back from showing his true emotions to her. He has cared about her for awhile and needs to decide if the time is right to approach her. Talia on the other hand, is dealing with her mother and her mother's issues and is having trouble letting people get close to her. When Liam begins to break past her barriers Talia has to decide if she will do what's right for her or everyone else.

I loved Liam's character. His alpha male nature appealed to me and obviously to Talia as well. I like how he waded past all the crap in Talia's life and just began to help her, even when she didn't know she wanted it. I loved how they both navigated around each other and their new relationship, I would have loved to have seen more but this was just a short story. Now I want to go back and find the first story that Liam was in because I feel the need to know more about him.

Talia was an interesting character as well. She was fiercely independent, almost stubborn, and I liked watching her fence with Liam. I thought the issue with her mom was really sad but also I couldn't help but find it a bit funny. The mom was clearly insane and how Talia kept that hidden from everyone was beyond my understanding. Needless to say Talia's mom was a bit crazy.

In terms of the sexual part of the book, I was a little confused about the labeling of the genre. It's considered erotica which I agree that it is, but it also had a label of being BDSM. But, while there were hints of it by Liam showing his more dominant side, there weren't really any sex scenes that involved bdsm play. I have to say that it did disappoint me a little bit, but the sex scenes were still well written and it balanced nicely with the romance of the book and the other plot arcs. This book has convinced me to check out other books by this author.

Thanks to netgalley and Carina press for providing me with this book to read and review!

After my last experience with a Carina book -- Lilly Cain's delightful space-erotica Undercover Alliance -- I jumped at the chance to review one of their BDSM titles: Callie Croix's Let Me In , a novella about Marina Talia Barnett and military contractor Liam Brodie.

When Talia comes home on leave, she's greeted by her friend Angie and Angie's brother Liam, who's shared a mutual attraction with Talia for years. After finally seeing the secret home life Talia has hidden from her friends, Liam's relationship with her ignites, and they finally act on the sexual tension they've denied.

Unfortunately, while Let Me In is described as a BDSM title, at best it's a BDSM-lite title, and by BDSM lite, I mean no-fat, no-sugar, no-taste. Liam's internal monologue (and the author's) refers to "his baser needs" and "the dominant man inside him," but in a clear case of all telling and now showing, that's literally what Liam does. In one scene, he describes to Talia how he'd LIKE to tie her up and have his wicked way with her, but he doesn't. It's not a good sign when you are yelling out loud to the characters to show, don't tell.

Most of the "BDSM" here amounts to tiny things like Liam telling Talia to "hold perfectly still" while he touches her to orgasm, or directing her during their sex, but if you are looking for floggers, restraints, or even a little spanking, this isn't your book.

Worse, the author seems embarrassed by it all. Using the term "baser" -- which means without moral principles -- isn't exactly a way to describe BDSM, or at least Liam's desire for a little more kink, in accepting terms. In some of the scenes, anal play is discussed using terms so clinical I felt like I was in a doctor's office, not a bedroom. "Pussy" was used to define more than one part of Talia's anatomy, which had me staring at my e-reader trying to determine what was going on in a scene -- not what you want readers doing when reading a love scene.

Overall, I was disappointed in this second Carina title, although I think a lot of the issues could have been helped with a more forceful copy edit.

Talia is a lieutenant in the marines and has come home from Afghanistan on leave for Thanksgiving. She doesn't have a close relationship with her mother so is expecting to spend the holidays alone in a hotel. It comes as quite a surprise when her best friend Angie picks her up from the airport along with her brother (and Talia's crush) Liam. Angie is like a sister to Talia and she adores her whole family, she may have had strong feelings for Liam since she met him but she would never take it further and risk losing his friendship and the normality she gets when she spends time with him and his family. Liam knows that Talia is hiding something about her past and is determined to get her to open up and let him in.

Let Me In is the first story I've read by Callie Croix but it definitely won't be the last. It was a fab short and sweet erotic read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Talia had a difficult upbringing with a mother who suffers from severe depression that has led to other mental health problems. Talia is heartbroken for her mother and has spent years looking after her and helping keep a roof over her head but she is tired of having to cope with it all. Liam wants to help her but she is scared to let him in, she worries that if he discovers just how deep her mother's issues go then he will walk away and she'll never see him again. But Liam isn't about to walk away from the woman he has spent years fantasising about. He doesn't just want Talia's body - he wants to win her heart and he wants to get close to her and help her shoulder her burdens.

The chemistry between the couple is intense and the sex scenes are scorching. I'm not quite sure why the story has been given a BDSM label though - Liam is very dominant but I wouldn't really class anything in the book as full on BDSM. That didn't stop my enjoyment of the story though and I'd recommend this to anyone who is looking for a quick, erotic read with an alpha hero worth swooning over.

Bam... you don't see that coming. Well, the cover might be intimidating but actually this is not quite a bad novella. Even if its エロティカ BDSM... not. Actually, its quite an average adult romance novel.

But for a short story, this novella actually have a plot and story progression which made it a nicer read that some novels that I had gone through 300 pages to find one.

The writing style is simple, descriptive (hmm..) and easy. The characterization is straight forward, the side characters weren't prominent thoroughly but enough to keep the story going. Despite the blurb, which sounded cheesy, the story is actually a simple story of a man who had waited for his right woman to let him inside her insecurity and was there when she needed him the most. In fact, half of the book was about Talia having doubts and then had to face her ghosts before she could move forward. To be perfectly honest, she's far more afraid to let go than her mother's hoarding OCD.

The story of two marines in love is nothing new. It doesn't add much to the length but it helped with the settings and interconnecting scenes from beginning to the end. The length of the story doesn't allow much to go through but unlike your run of the mill Harlequin novels. The story is comparable and light-hearted. Yes, some of the scenes can raise your blood pressure but wasn't too risqué for readers who are not keen on a serious tone of the genre.

Again, its not a heavy エロ despite being considered one by the publisher, this is definitely not your 50 shades of fanfic cheesiness or Ellora's Cave usual above than average romance genres.

Review copy from Carina Press and the ebook is published in 21st May. Which was a couple of days ago so if you like a light read than your average mild-romance books, you should try this.

So who wanted more of Liam Brodie after his stunning performance in No Hold Barred? Because I sure did and when I found out Let Me In was his story, I jumped at the chance to read it. Thankfully Carina Press gave me the opportunity to review this book and all I have to say….wow, Liam Brodie is one hot alpha male!

I adore Liam! He’s just one of them guys that is very loyal, strong and loving and although comes across as a man’s man – really, deep down he’s very tender and affectionate. He’s looking for the right women that can match in him in every way and he believes he’s found that in Talia. The problems lies with Talia though, as she believes she isn’t good enough for Liam because of her troubled relationship with her mother. It’s hard for to give someone her whole heart but Liam really is ready to knock down those walls she tries so hard to keep up and watching their relationship unfold really is heart-pounding, tense and very sexy.

I did enjoy Let Me In more than No Hold Barred because I felt this story was so much more complex. As a reader I really felt I got the time to get to know who Talia and Liam were and with Talia’s troubled relationship with her mother coming ahead, I felt that much more connected to her. I was really invested in these characters by the end of the book and I can’t help wanting more. So my fingers are crossed for Callie Croix to do another book that stars Liam, Talia and possibly Nate & Cait too.

Overall, Let Me In is a fast paced, hot and steamy short novel that will leave you begging for more. Highly recommended for 18+ plus readers.

A huge thank you NetGalley & Carina Press for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

I don't usually read romance novels that aren't in the paranormal/fantasy genre. But recently I've decided to expand my reading list to include contemporary romance and bdsm :)

I really enjoyed reading Let Me In. Liam is a dominant lover, and he's really good at it! x] Though, there wasn't any BDSM in this story, you do get to see his dominant nature. He's an ex-marine and a military contractor with an air of alpha-male about him. I just loved that he was so assertive and sure of his feelings for Talia, and despite her troublesome background, he still loved her very much.

Talia, I liked a lot. She was independent, strong, and a marine lieutenant too! The only problem I had with her was her reluctance to give in to her feelings, despite how strongly she felt towards Liam. I know everyone has a past they'd either love to revisit, or swear never to look back to again. And I understand why Talia felt the need to keep people at arms length, but after a while, it just got so old, I grew frustrated. So when Liam called her for what she was, a coward, I just about grinned. I like that he didn't coddle her.

This was a short story, so we didn't get much more background on Liam and Talia other than the necessary, and I'm both glad and disappointed at that, I would have loved to learn more on Liam :) I really liked the interactions they had with his parents and his sister, Angie, who is also Talia's best friend.

It's a great book to get into on a spare hour or two, or maybe for a relaxing weekend; and for fans of contemporary romance. I loved it!

Wow, does this book have a lot of emotional ups and downs. I really enjoyed the plot and the pace at which it moved along. This book seems more like a hot contemporary romance than an erotic romance. That probably isn't good for those that read erotic all the time and like lots of hot and steamy scenes throughout the book, but for those that want their first taste at an erotic romance categorized as such or like a more hot contemporary romance, this is a great one to try. There are a some very hot and steamy scenes in this book but that wasn't all. It is the perfect balance for what I look for in a book with some heat.

Liam loves Talia. He has for the past couple of years but she has held him at arms length. Wefind out it is because of her mother and the shame Talia feels for the situation her mother is in. Liam is a Marine, though and doesn't give up easily. He continues to pull Talia in closer and uses whatever he can to get through her defenses. Liam always says what you want him to, which is what I love about him. He is direct and to the point. He callsTalia out on things and doesn't let her hide.

Callie does a wonderful job developing Talia. She is such a complicated character trying to take on so much by herself. I admire her strength and loyalty to her mom and her country, but she needs to let others help her more. She wants to let Liam in but is afraid.

I can never say enough great things about Callie's books. Her writing is always spot on, consistent and her characters always tug at your heart. If you are looking for a sexy, emotional read with a sweet romance to go along with it, I highly recommend you try Let Me In by Callie Croix.

This was a breath of fresh air since I've been on a mission, looking for some good Adult/Erotica and I hadn't had much luck.
Let Me In is a short story with a really great plot and story. Most of the time, short stories tend to underwhelm me. Mostly because they're not long enough to be well developed. But Let Me In was a little gem, in a lake of pebbles. The story wasn't only HOT(which it was), but it had a really tough under-story.
We know that Tal has had a tough life. That her relationship with her mom is about to break. Tal's mom has a problem/condition/sickness that I have never before encountered in any of my previews reads. It was refreshingly shocking and painful to see Tal and her mom struggle through it.
Now Tal and Liam's relationship was sweet and hot. Their chemistry is 'Chill Inducing', and I really liked the fact that it wasn't an instant love thing. They know each other for a couple of years but Tal decided to keep things uncomplicated because she's affraid that, if things don't work out, she won't only lose him, but his whole family too.

The story feel realistic and it helps the reader to connect with the characters more easily. They writing style is easy and enjoyable, and the overall is a thumbs up. I will be looking for more works by this author.

Thank you to Netgalley and Carina Press for providing me with this copy.
