On the outbreak of war Russell Spurr joined the army with high hopes of romance and adventure. Moving from the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders to the Indian Army, he sailed for Bombay the night before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour. This is his biography.
Russell Spurr was based in Hong Kong for more than 20 years as the China and Far East correspondent for the London Daily Express and ABC Radio Network, and the chief correspondent and deputy editor of the Far Eastern Economic Review.
