Forced to leave her home in Ireland after witnessing her father’s murder, Ava O’Brian discovers a family secret and will do anything to avenge her father’s death. Escaping to the United States, she begins a rigorous training and uses her computer hacking skills to stop her father’s killer from stealing her money, her castle, and her father’s businesses. Little does she know there is more at stake than meets the eye.
Learning that werewolves exist and that her family shares such a bloodline is mind-altering. Getting caught up in the middle of a police investigation seems really bad. But once she comes in close contact with five wolves in law enforcement, her body has a different reaction than fear. As Task Force Three, the five Declan brothers are part of a secret order created to protect were-law and the Circle of Elders. In the midst of an investigation they find their mate, but she is not so easy to catch and will alter their destiny like no other mission has before.

People seem to be more interested in my name than where I get my ideas for my stories from. So I might as well share the story behind my name with all my readers.
My momma was born and raised in New Orleans. At the age of twenty, she met and fell in love with an Irishman named Patrick Riley Dwyer. Needless to say, the family was a bit taken aback by this as they hoped she would marry a family friend. It was a modern day arranged marriage kind of thing and my momma downright refused.
Being that my momma’s families were descendents of the original English speaking southerners, they wanted the family blood line to stay pure. They were wealthy and my father’s family was poor.
Despite attempts by my grandpapa to make Patrick leave and destroy the love between them, my parents married. They recently celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary.
I am one of six children born to Patrick and Lynn Dwyer. I am a combination of both Irish and a true southern belle. With a name like Dixie Lynn Dwyer it’s no wonder why people are curious about my name.
Just as my parents had a love story of their own, I grew up intrigued by the lifestyles of others. My imagination as well as my need to stray from the straight and narrow made me into the woman I am today.
Dixie Lynn Dwyer is my favorite Siren author. She hits on the one thing sure to keep my attention in every story she writes... the heroes' total devotion to the heroine. I think a woman's need to be special – above all other women that may have come before her – is a part of all women. Dixie definitely gives that to us in spades with her work. I was worried that this story was going to veer off course when I read some of the other reviews but I can now safely say that she has done the series plenty of justice with the Irish Jewel. She brought back the previous characters enough to keep the series connected but didn’t over-play it to the point of it being a repetitive storyline.
There is one minor observation I do have with Dixie’s writing. The way the characters use such proper grammar drives me a little crazy. People just don’t talk that way. Even those with a higher intellect than average don’t speak in complete proper sentences all the time. It’s ok to use conjunctive words and slang. It isn’t a business letter and – in my opinion – would be a lot easier to relate to if she loosened up on the proper grammar just a bit. Even with that said she still has an A+ from me.
Ava O'Brian has been groomed her whole life to be a lady as well as be able to protect herself if necessary, when her father is brutally murdered in front of her and a rogue wolf sets out to claim her as his own, Ava hightails it out of Ireland. Two years later Ava is trying to bring the man down who betrayed her father, but a new ripple has crossed her path as she meets the Declan brothers who are claiming she is there mate.
Willy cannot believe they have found their mate and from what he can tell she needs their protection, but getting the fiesty lass to recognize the men as mates as well as accept their protection is an uphill battle. As Willy sets out a plan to seduce his mate, his brothers Mick, Sean, Pat, and Kyle each work together to make Ava feel loved in everyway possible.
This was good, but did not flow as well as the other two. I just did not connect as well with Ava and the Declan brothers, although Mick is a smooth operator. I would have liked more setup on this one I think.
I haven't actually finished this book yet. I do intend to, but oh Lord is this a tedious read. This woman, ya'll. And the "alpha". How I tire of them both. I could fall in love with every other member of this pack, but their oldest brother, the "Alpha", he treats Ava like crap. And while Ava does an excellent job of telling him off, & making very good points while she does it, she never actually says any of it out loud! He's constantly talking down to her, treating her like an idiot, & she just takes it all without ever defending herself. Then as soon as he's done speaking AT her she stomps off like a child, he gets mad at her for disrespecting him & follows her to teach her manners or some such nonsense & they have not that hot sex. Its how every single one of the their sex scenes is initiated so far. I wont even call them romantic because they aren't. The others are.
I liked the other men. Up until the point where they think she has betrayed them because they discover that, low & behold, she's only known them about a week, they've kidnapped her, the alpha is literally belittling her every single time he speaks to her, they treat her like a helpless moron, like someone who hasn't been doing just fine taking care of themselves for 2 years without their group, keeping secrets from her ABOUT PERTINENT INFORMATION in her life, and they act all betrayed when, surprise, surprise, she's keeping secrets from them as well. I hated them all a little bit in that moment, & was sad when Ava, instead of telling them that she owed them nothing! This was HER life that they had only just stepped into & were so rudely trying to take over. She instead feels the need to defend her actions, like she's done something wrong. Maybe sharing is a two-way street here. Maybe, these guys shouldn't be so absolutely stunned when a woman is capable of doing more than checking her email & posting on twitter. Maybe, I shouldn't expect so much from a book like this, but I do! Because with 5 men & 1 woman they can't BE so overbearing. They'll crush her eventually! These stories need strong women, & men who are strong enough support them. The dynamic I've read so far isn't going to work in the long run. Not if she's going to be happy, & have any vestige of her current self left to her after 5 or 10 years. Otherwise she's just going to be a caricature of what their crushing, controlling personalities have made of her.
I can't even say I'd recommend this book if you're just looking for steamy menage scenes. They were ok. Maybe they were ruined for me when I was turned off by Willy, a horrible name for a hero by the way, but I was over all bored with them. And annoyed with the book. Once again, I haven't finished it yet, but I am at 74%, & it has taken me MONTHS to get here. And I rarely ever take longer than 3 days to finish a book.
OK, so this book wasn’t FABULOUS so it didn’t get 5 stars. It would have gotten 4 from me except for one thing that was consistent throughout the book, which is the inconsistency of one of the character names. It is William, or Willy. In one sentence it is William and in the next it is Willy. I wish she would have just chosen one and left it at that. I can see if his brothers or his woman called him Willy, but in the non-dialogue text, she would go back and forth between William and Willy. It was quite annoying and things like that will pull me from a story.
The story as a whole was good. In my opinion, Dixie Lynn Dwyer does paranormal better than normal. Her shifter books are way better than her strait human books. With her paranormal books you get a consistent quality.
Ava is forced to leave her homeland after witnessing her father’s death. Vowing to bring her father’s murderer to justice she uses her hacking skills from stealing her money and father’s business, but it comes with a price because there is more going on than she realizes. In the midst of it all she will find her mates who are looking for the very same people she is. Declan and his brothers never thought that they would find their mate the way they did but can they keep her safe from the dangers coming?
I'm loving this series. At one point in this book when they were talking about magical beings I nearly thought that Ava would have some sort of power or something. I was so looking forward to find out what it was but then I got to the end and nothing. That was the only disappointment. Nevertheless I love this story. This author can sure weave a story. A very active imagination.
I did enjoy this book but I felt the brother did kinda bleed into one another. The Irish jewel was a good mystery and I did like how independent Ava was with defending herself and running her father company. Good HEA
