While Alex and Martin prepare to return home, a storm is brewing that threatens to derail everything they’ve built.
Private investigator Alexis Parker is ready to say goodbye to the sun, surf, and sand. The West Coast branch of Cross Security is finally getting off the ground, and Martin’s business in Los Angeles is coming to an end. Just a few more weeks, and they should be able to go home for good. Except, all is not as it appears.
While enjoying a lazy afternoon at the beach, Alex is approached by someone she thought she’d never see again. Despite having hung up her FBI credentials for good, another federal agency needs her help. And they won’t take no for an answer. Sending a familiar face to make the approach was supposed to lessen the blow. Instead, it only ups Alex’s anxiety.
Alex hasn’t seen Agent Decker since the last time they worked together, but he needs her to assist his team one more time. Alex’s acquaintance, Sgt. Will Russo, has been on Decker’s radar for a while. Russo had gotten himself in deep when he shot two fellow officers, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg. Alex doesn’t know the rest of the story or how the sergeant connects to her old contacts. But she’s about to be dragged into the middle of it, along with everyone else she’s ever cared about…

This Alexis Parker installment finds Alexis and Martin in Los Angeles where Book 23 left off. Therir relationship seems to be on the mend since their engagement. As they are about to return back East and resume their lives, Jace befriends Martin under the pretense of surfing on the same beach. Much to the chagrin of Alexis, she learns that Jace has been following her and her help with the DEA. Reluctantly she makes the decision to do so, but only after Jace tells her that she will not have to go undercover, but she will only be the liaison between the DEA and an officer unjustly accused of betraying his fellow officers in blue.
With the author's ability to create conflict in the narrative, the reading becomes engrossing and difficult to put down. The tension builds with each page, and one can only wonder if Alexis and Martin will survive this newest obstacle in their relationship. There are those who become victims in this investigation, and one can only hope that Alexis can heal from the aftermath.
A page turner that builds on the plot from the previous 24 novels. One only can wonder what Parks has in store for the next installment "Balance Due."
I love this series and appreciate the growth Alexis has shown in the more recent books. I hope bruiser recovers more and can they tour the knot already? Excited to see what returning home entails
Mark has just left Alex and Martin in LA when Alex is involuntarily recruited by the DEA to run officer Will Russo. He has been trying to find evidence to clear his name after two officers are killed, one by him in self defense, both cops on the take. He and Alex are trying to infiltrate a Latino gang responsible for drugs and guns. Alex takes a 2 day break to help Cross with a clients safety regarding the extreme workouts she's being put through by her personal trainer. Back in San Diego Will finally gets in with the gang, when Alex is caught spying she pretends to be an ex Fed into private security with a side business of supplying drugs to the uber wealthy. Martin and Bruiser are in an almost fatal accident, Martin is ok but Bruiser has a FC skull and possible permanent brain damage. The druggies in San Diego are sorted out and busted. Alex is back in LA with Martin enjoying their last night before flying home when they are attacked by the crazy personal trainer, she is shot by Will who showed up in the nick of time. Alex and Martin have flown back home.
Alex is the only person Will trusts, so when a face from her past turns up and needs her help just mentioning his name is a game changer and what a dangerous game it is, not only for Alex but all the people she holds dear. Fast paced crime thriller.
Do me (and you) a favor and start with Book 1. And then binge your way to this one. You will not be disappointed. G.K. Parks is a modern day Sue Grafton. Brilliant story telling with a lead female PI.
Alexis Parker solves another one. Same as usual, you can't put the book down until the last page and then you want it to continue on and on. Ready for the next one..
Always look forward to another book featuring Alex Parker and this one didn’t disappoint. I am happy she’s headed back home as I miss the other guys in the police department.
I truly enjoyed this book! When you think you figured out who was in charge of the crimes there would be a twist. I can't wait for the next story! If you like criminology and mystery, you will love this series!
This was an intense and suspenseful story that will hook you, as well as keep you guessing until the end. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and author.
Alex Parker books are difficult to put down. I am so happy I started with book one have been reading the series for about 9 months. "Trouble Brewing" is an especially interesting book Alex and James are in LA she is setting up a west coast of Cross Investigations office for Lucian even with no cases to work she manages to become involved with law enforcement and the bad guys. This one is difficult to figure out who the actual bad guys are lots of action and fast paced. Will keep you reading long after your bedtime.
Dirty cops, drugs and dastardly deeds, oh my! It's another suspenseful, action-packed story as Alex rushes toward danger without backup. There's a large cast of interesting characters and many plot twists that keep the reader coming back for more adventures.
