Jonah is 14 and lives in a small community on the east coast of Canada in 1958.

He and his best friend, Beaz, have figured out a way to get to the forbidden Oak Island to seek treasure. They find a gold locket down one of the treasure shafts and can't believe their luck--until they realize that the locket is not pirate's booty but possibly evidence in a current murder investigation, one which Jonah already knows more about than he can handle.

Beaz is in danger from his abusive mother if she finds out he's gone to Oak Island, so Jonah keeps the secret even though there is a killer at large in his small community.

I've heard about the real Oak Island before, and it truly is a mystery. The title of the book caught my attention. I like how the author, Cynthia D'entremont, took a realistic place and made up her own story with her own characters and plot to make the story interesting, yet relatable. I've read that on the real Oak Island, I think it was 8 people who have died in mysterious ways digging for the treasure thought to be buried there. Some of the stories I heard really do make me think that the island is cursed, but I don't 100% believe the island is cursed. In the story, there were a lot of twists that I did not see coming. For example, the story started out as these two boys (Johan and Beaz) who wanted to look for treasure on Oak Island, and then it turned into a murder case that I did not see coming. Almost everyone that went to the island was given bad luck. I think the reason this book was interesting for me was because I already had some background knowledge of the island. So far out of the books I've read, this one is my favourite.

This book was about a kid named Jonah Morgan and his friend Beaz and they were trying to find the mysterious Oak Island treasure. I thought this book was very bland in it's settings, because it didn't give a lot of detail about what the island was. If it said that Oak Island was a real place and given a bit more detail about it i think that i would have liked the book a lot more and i would have found it a lot more interesting that it was actually based on a true story. I would not recommend this book, unless you like stories about old non-fiction places.

This is a great story for a middle school class. The characters are interesting and relatable. The genre is mystery, with a plotline of twists and turns and red herrings. The suggested reading level is Grade 6, but I tend to think that a little higher than that would be better. The author is approachable and responds quickly to questions or comments. This is realistic fiction set in 1958 with an Atlantic Canada feel, and I have enjoyed the novel very much.

The book was very good. It had a great story line and it had me hooked! I didn’t even solve the mystery and was shocked by the books ending. I did feel there was some boring parts of the story line that felt like filler and unnecessary. Overall I rate this book a 4/5.

YA novel. Don’t really have much to say about it since I’m not a good reviewer of the genre.

This book takes place on Oak Island in the summer of 1958.

According to 14 year old Beaz ( short for Beasley) nothing every really happens in Oak Island Nova Scotia.

Little does Beaz and his best friend Jonah Morgan, their summer vacation is going to be a whirl wind of gossip, murder and a whole lot of unanswered questions. On the last day of school Beaz and Jonah notice Charlotte Barkhouse outside of the school talking with someone they didn't know, but thought nothing of it.... That is until Charlotte turns up missing and eventually is found dead.

Jonah and Beas witness Charlotte getting into the teacher Mr.Steven's and ends up driving off. At the time Jonah and Beaz think nothing of of it that he was just going to give her a ride home. But the next day when the news goes around that Charlotte never came home, the boys got all worried on what they should do. When the police comes to ask them if they saw anything they lied because they didn't want to get into trouble for not coming forward.

Soon Jonah and Beaz cant seem to stop lying. They start to feel like they are going to go to hell because of it so Jonah finally end up telling his dad what he a Beaz had witnessed the day Charlotte went missing.

When Jonah and Beaz went to Oak Island when they weren't suppose to ended up finding a locket which they soon found out belonged to Charlotte Barkhouse.
The people of ths small little town the whole summer were doing nothing but gossiping about Charlotte and who killed Charlotte Barkhouse. They assume that because the teacher Mr.Steven was the last person to see her alive, that he killed her.

At the end of the summer a boy named Jacob comes back from working at his uncle's farm in New Brunswick. When he hears the news about Charlotte he tells the police that he saw Charlette get out of Mr. Steven's care and cross the street. So Mr. Steven's was released from custody.

Beaz starts to put the whole picture together and learns that Marshall had a crush on Charlotte but she didn't feel the same. So he thinks Marshall killed her, but there wasn't any proof to prove it.

In 1958 the Marshall Brothers were working in a newly dug shaft and in collapsed and killed both Deacon and Marshall.

This story was good but it I kind of feel like they left somethings out.

I rated it 3 stars.

Oak Island Revenge tells the story of Jonah Morgan, a 14 year old living in Western Shore, Nova Scotia in the late 1950's. His life is dull to say the least, but him and his best friend - Beaz - can't wait to start exploring the mysterious and legendary Oak Island.
But something Jonah witnesses on the last day of school changes everything, and it plunges the two friends into a bucket load of trouble. Soon, one lie leads to another until Beaz and Jonah are trapped in a web of their own making.

I personally found this novel extremely hard to get into. Jonah's world just didn't pull me in like books usually do. I had to read this book as a Red Maple Assignment, and like most Red Maples I was putting this novel off until the last minute. It just didn't hook me. You are somewhat rewarded during the ending though, if you manage to make it that far. The story's plot intensifies and the pace of the novel quickens noticeably.

There were a few thing I really liked about this novel though, it was realistic and it really took you back in time in terms of the writing. It got boring at times, but I actually believed in the characters, because they reminded of people I know. Ruth McDonald - the town gossip, Betty Schofield - that one stingy lady no one likes, Beaz - who never once complained about the horrors going on at his house, and walked out with a smile every single day.

Basically, if you really like mystery and know a little about the mystery of Oak Island, I suggest you read this book. I'm a fan of mystery myself, but I prefer long lengthy novels which let me really get to know the characters and the story in detail.
This book is perfect for a light read and for anyone looking for something "non-girly" since most books nowadays are being written for a female audience.

I would give this book 2.5 stars out of 5.

Oak Island lies off the shore of Nova Scotia, close to the little town of Western Shore. Famous for the still missing pirates treasure rumored to be buried on Oak Island, most of the boys of the area have spent time searching for the treasure despite being forbidden to go there, including Jonah and his friend Beaz.

Jonah has decided that this summer is going to be different! In the two years since his older brother passed away, his mom has barely let him out of her sight. He and Beaz have found an old abandoned row boat that they have carefully patched up. They are finally going to dig for treasure out on Oak Island!

With the disappearance of their school teacher and one of the older female students, Jonah and Beaz's summer just got a lot more interesting.

Jonah knows more than he's saying but is working hard to make sure that he doesn't actually lie to his parents. He's growing up and having to make decisions about how much honesty is best and when to keep his suspicions to himself.

Jonah doesn't realize that what he knows could change people's lives forever, and not always in a good way.

An interesting coming of age mystery novel set in a beautifully described 1958 small Nova Scotian town. The characters are well written, the interaction between characters is at times amusing and very believable. It reads like a dark version of an old Hardy Boys book. Good read for a younger reader.

I received my copy through GoodReads FirstReads and my review was unsolicited.

Jonah Morgan and his best pal, Beaz (both 14 years old) inhabit the Atlantic coast of the Canadian province Nova Scotia. The legendary treasure-filled Oak Island has always attracted the boys, as well as everyone else, but they never got a chance to actually seriously search for the "nest egg."
Fortunately, this summer, the two boys are able to hit the island without anyone else (or so they think) knowing. Trying to keep this a secret is not so easy, as Jonah's mother is very protective, and Beaz's mother is abusive.
One day, Jonah discovers a golden locket in one of the shafts on the island. This discovery is sure to be a precious treasure, but it turns out to be serious evidence in an awful crime. Quickly enough, these typical teenagers are twisted and tied in the barbarous actions of a community murderer. Can they handle the investigation, or will their treasure-finding curiosity doom their lives forever....?

The overall plot was fairly enjoyable and captivating, but a bit too predictable. There weren't really any shocking moments, where you thought, "Oh, I was not expecting THAT."
In my opinion, this book is geared more towards grade 5's and 6's, which is probably why I didn't fully love it.
I think Oak Island Revenge involved a great connection between the characters, and everything just linked together. The plot was evidently well thought-out and planned. Overall, this novel deserves a great rating, probably anywhere from 3 stars to 5 stars, mainly depending on the reader's age and interests!

This book was really good. I read it in one day I was so hooked. I don't really agree with all of the people who say it is for younger kids. There were so many twists and turns that I didn't expect.Overall this book was pretty good. I picked up this book because it was a Red Maple book and it looked interesting. I finished this book because it was A-MAZ-ING and the mystery really interested me. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys exciting mysteries. The rest of my review has a spoiler-

I loved how the murderer didn't turn out to be the person you thought it would be. I completely disagree with all of the people who say the ending was predictable. I never, ever even thought once that the murderer was Marshall. I thought that it was Mr. Steevens. I agree that the ending wasn't that good. The fact that Marshall didn't get arrested bothered me. Sure, he died, but it just didn't make sense. That also confused me. They didn't explain Marshall and Deacon's death enough. It just said that they died and then BAM! The book ended.

Thank you to the Author, Publisher, and Goodreads for this free novel to read and then review.

So far...

Ahhh, an error. Minor, but still a glaring mistake in using a particular phrase, placing it years earlier than when it actually made an appearance in spoken English: Groovy. Not in 1958 — more like 1966. Correct me if I am wrong on this, yet I feel I am right in placing the usage during the mid-60s and not the late 50s.

Another mistake I couldn't help but notice is the symbols on the front cover. Nothing even remotely related within the story, so why use them as part of the graphic? Seems misleading.

Finished, and yes, I did enjoy this novel.

Delightful and wonderful Characters that were all very well thought out and developed.

Childhood and the simplicity of life we tend to forget as we grow older.

Absorbing tale of youth, mystery, and murder.

Well written with a great flow of plot twists and turns.

Wow what a great book! School was finally over Jonah and his best friend Beaz decided to go Oak Island and find the forbidden treasure while they were looking they found a locket. Later on the next day Charlotte ( Jonah's classmate ) went missing. I can't really explain this story or else to would ruin the story. This book was very draggy but good. This book is also very predictable it was obvious that Marshall was the killer this book also sweet well only I part was sweet that was when I found out Jonah's mom is pregnant , since Jonah's older brother died. I wanted to read this book because it was the only red maple book that was in the library. I finished this book because I wanted to make sure that Marshall is the killer. I recommend this book to Ambika, Noor and Joanna. I would recommend this to Ambika and Noor since they both like mystery books and I would recommend this book to Joanna because well ... She likes reading good books.

Jonah and Beaz can't wait to start their summer vacation. A whole summer to themselves to look for treasure. That whole plan changed when a young lady named Charlotte is murdered. Now Jonah finds himself trapped in a web of lies, that he can't seem to escape. Will the murder case be solved?

I picked this book up because it was one of the red maple books, and it seemed the most interesting. The cover itself seemed a bit mysterious.

I finished the book because I wanted to know who murdered Charlotte, and if Jonah would come clean about the secrets he had.

I would recommend this book to Zaida. I really think she would like the story. And I think she would have a fun time trying to solve the mystery.

Jonah and Beaz are determined to make the most of their summer. Their goal is to explore Oak Island and find the treasure rumoured to be buried there. Instead they become embroiled in a murder investigation and a boatload of lies.

I picked this book up because it is one of this year's Red Maple nominees.

I finished it because I was curious to see if Jonah would own up to his actions.

I would recommend this to, actually, I'm not sure to whom I would recommend this book. The story is OK, but I can't see that the kids in my school will rush to read this one.

I thought the book Oak Island Revenge was a great mystery story. The author firstly targeted one character but throughout the story, she was able to change the way you saw the story and began to slowly drop clues, giving you the idea that it wasn't who you thought it was from the beggining. For me, it was hard to follow some of the supporting characters because they didn't seem to be too important. Although it made an okay ending, I don't like books that leave you with a feeling that there could be more of an explanation on what exactly happened in the end.

Jonah and his friend Beaz thought that they would spend their summer searching for the hidden treasure on Oak Island. Instead they become involved in a mysterious murder investigation.

I picked up this book because it was one of the red-maple nominees, and I wanted to finish them all.

I finished the book because I enjoyed the mystery in the book and wanted to see how it was resolved. I also finished it because I wanted to read all the red-maple books.

I don't really know who to recommend this to because not a lot of people I know like mystery.

What makes a "strong one" rating? For me, I guess it's a book I didn't hate but could find nothing to like about. The 1958 Maritime setting is thinly drawn, corny and forced. I didn't care enough about the characters to try to follow the tortured mystery after it's sixth or seventh twist. In fact, I didn't care enough about the amateur detectives, the accused, the bully, the cop, or the victim to mind the fuzzy resolution of the whole mess. Not fun but at least short.

I did not like this book because a lot of things were unclear like why did Marshall kill Charlotte it says that he loves her also if the teacher didn't want every one to suspect him than why did he escape to oak island and the fisher man did nothing so he was pretty useless in the book and I did not understand half the book because it jumped from one thing to another this book will not get my vote

I thought it was amazing! It kept me interested the entire time from beginning to end. The ending bothered me a bit though because it leaves you wondering, so you have to decide for yourself what the ending is. Other than that one tiny flaw for my first book in red maple ever I can say I wished I went before if all the books were that great! Also the characters and plot were great

I thought this book was okay. The reason I wasn't a fan of it because I thought some parts were pretty dry and boring. But the rest of the book I thought was pretty interesting. I really liked the mystery and the adventure. I also really liked the charaters. My favourite was Beaz because he was funny and would always make a joke no matter the situaton.

I really didn't like this book because the ending sucked and the motive was unclear because it said that Marshall really liked Charlotte but he killed her so I was confused. I thought that they should have used first person. I also thought that the fisher guy that everyone was scared of was a useless character because he didn't do anything special in the book.

This book was about a boy named Jonah and his best friend Beaz. Their only goal is mostly to find treasure on an island in Nova Scotia. But later on, a lot of obstacles happened along the way. This book was good to me. I found the story to be interesting. But something that is a negative is the ending of the book. That was just something I didn't like. But overall the book is still good to me.
