I thought this was a pretty good book to help those of us struggling with depression, especially as the author has been there herself. The book has been revised several times since it’s original publication and I think it could use another revision now as we’re all living in a new existence with COVID. For me, this COVID business has definitely taken me by surprise with how it’s thrown me back into a depression I had worked so diligently to get out of😢
I got this for free from Amazon a while back and figured I'd give it a go. I'm not at all very familiar with the self help-genre, but to me this seems like a good option for those who struggle with depression, know someone who struggles with depression or is simply curious about what goes on in the head of someone who is depressed.
Dr. Sabina Dosani fell into depression herself when she studied medicine, and is very familiar with the condition. She does not patronise or pretend to know what it's like (she actually knows what it's like) as many others who are only familiar with depression through books etc. She also speaks to you in a language you will understand, not using too many medical terms (A couple of the chapters are dedicated to explaining various types of therapy, and various types of anti depressants).
With this book she offers 52 ideas on how to defeat depression. If you have read a lot about depression earlier, you will probably have heard most of these ideas before, but Dosani has neatly gathered them all into a nice, little handbook. For a freebie off Amazon, this struck me as a catch.
This is a little known brilliant book that changed my life and of many people who I have recommended it to. Filled with easy to use insights for those with depression, it's a lovely book, even as a guide to "how to lead a happier life".
