Parker Davis's car limped its way into Portsmouth. It was just another city in a long line of places she'd traveled never to settle down. The major repairs and debt caused by her vehicle, forced her to stay in the city and find employment with the local police department.
Olivia Santos lived for her work as a police officer, following a family tradition that she was proud of. The only thing that she would place above her police work was the love she had for her only living relative, her brother, an undercover cop.
When Parker and Olivia meet at a social function, there is an immediate attraction, which starts them on a road of passionate, unquenchable love. Their relationship binds them together in ways neither of them understand until a tragedy threatens the very fabric of their life together and their love. What happens will reflect on their future like an indelible stain forever.

This is the fourth book in the series ‘When Hell Meets Heaven’ and here there is trip to the past to fill in original details for the Olivia/Parker pairing. This is a very intense story with some threads really going way over the top. I do recommend reading this series in order. Having background data on Olivia and Parker from previous books certainly provides some grounding and insight that undeniably kept me from being blindsided since the main characters go through some tumultuous life shifts. We get to see them not at their best and affected by some brutally harsh abandonment. There is, however, some truly enjoyable and super exquisite loving to keep things balanced. Extraordinary!
Parker Davis gets stranded in Portsmouth. No problem. She is so confident in her ability to cope, rebuild, and prevail. She initially does. She whizzes through the officer’s qualification and examinations for the local police department. Parker is also 100 percent confident she will bring to her bed the next woman who raises her heartbeat. Parker is just a hair short of arrogant with her confidence levels running high. That is before the paradoxes start to mount and the shadow forces behind the scenes start their pincer attack. This all happens after she has fallen big-time for Olivia. Her total devotion to Olivia actually has a bit of an askew quality from the very beginning and Parker misses some important cues that Olivia tries to broadcast with fervor. Later, what she does to try to reconnect with Olivia, it was completely mind-boggling!
Olivia Santos lives the epitome of a fervent on-the-edge lifestyle. It seems to support her police career, but a family crisis puts her beyond the pale. Before this event, she fell hard in love with Parker. With the crisis throwing everything in her world out of kilter, she becomes very short-tempered. There are definitely two Olivias in this story, who she is before the crisis and after. It is clear that the later Olivia is the one we have come to know somewhat from the previous books, but the startling metamorphosis and her extreme hardcore nature in this book was quite eye-opening. Olivia is a very complex and totally fascinating woman whom I continue to find immensely captivating. Once again, my viewpoint is dependent on knowing the Olivia from the previous books, so I reemphasize my recommendation that one should read this series in order. Olivia is simply a stunner!
Having met Parker in book three and knowing Olivia from the start of the series, this story is astounding and arresting. It is also extraordinarily imaginative although the post-Olivia crisis elements may be a bit too close to reality and that is rather scary to comprehend. Olivia is even more intriguing than I could have conceived and Parker's hidden foibles presented a much more realistic human side with a demonstrative link to the previous book. ‘Paradox of Love’ has a very rigorous underpinning with some heartrending moments that suit the story and each woman's development. It is undeniably an enhancement to this series!

As another member wrote, "Disappointed...Very!" What she said. In spades!
Having read Dragon/O'Reilly's Beginnings #1, it's almost impossible to believe these are the same authors.
The plot is staggeringly simplistic and unforgivably predictable. The characters are unlikable at the very least, despicable at worst. In fact, loathsome might not be entirely out of place. Parker's possessiveness -- "I will make Olivia mine" -- borders on obsession. Scarily so. She's also deceitful to a most unpleasant degree. Olivia could easily be called a psychopath. I'd say the pair was made for each other, except that I don't see how anyone could have done something bad enough to deserve either of them.
As for the more technical aspects: Hopefully, there's another edition than the Kindle version I read. One that actually got edited, fergodsake. Missing comma's where needed, commas used where they aren't needed, are the most common issues, but certainly not the only ones. Structurally, well there's no climax at all.
Thank god I only paid a buck for it. For what it's worth, I've given only 7 one-star ratings out off 333 books, so I don't think my standards are unfair or unduly severe. I hate giving bad reviews, but, in this case, I feel completely justified in cautioning other readers. This is a book I just wish I'd passed on, if only for the time involved. Finally comment: Out of those 333 books, I've referred to only 2 books as "execrable. " This is one of them
Finally finished this book, taken three attempts to finish it. Was it worth sticking with? No, I could not relate to any part of the story or the characters, they were just too hard and too cold, both inside and out. Boring the crime was rubbish the book was a Disappointing waste of money to be honest.
