I've been reading and writing paranormal romance, urban fantasy, erotica and fantasy for years. This month I finally got tired of the agent rejection forms. So now I'm trying out Kindle's Self Publishing system. I'm thirty-nine--for another few months, and chronically single. I live alone with my jack russel, Jack.
Besides reading steamy books about werewolves and vampires, I love Italian food, Ice cream and long drives...but only when someone else is driving.
I kinda zoned out of this one in about the first 100 words when our hero went on a "voyage" from France to England that lasted somewhere in the region of 5 days. I can do that trip in a rubber dinghy in about 2 hours! Also, no matter what historical period you're basing your story in (and it wasn't clear, just some point in the "ye olde" past) the English Channel was one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. It is just beyond implausible that pirates would hijack an entire ship and slaughter everyone aboard within sight of both the English and French coasts. Other than that the writing wasn't bad, some misused words and typos that should have been picked up in an edit, but my main gripe is that the MC's motivation is completely unclear. One minutes he's rushing back to his beloved in order to marry her and live happily ever after, and the next he's being spitroasted by a couple of pirate masters without any apparent qualms.
