The Resurrected: Part Seven

Rate this book
The story continues.

When a series of freak storms sweep across the world, they leave behind something more than devastation. First come the swift-growing flowers, smelling like heaven and dying as quickly as they bloom. Next comes the infestation as the flowers breed and multiply inside their hosts. After that, chaos, mayhem and death.

And after that…resurrection.

Part Seven, while highly anticipated and eagerly read, was not my favorite of this series. Although I enjoyed getting to know more about Kelsey and Dennis, and loved reading about their interactions with each other, the plot was a little unbelievable. So far, everything Megan Hart has written about the zombie apocalypse has been so realistic and intense. Yet in this installment Kelsey and Dennis navigate Dennis' mother's crazy booby-trapped house and so much of that seemed over the top. Otherwise, the writing was fantastic. I am so very much looking forward to part eight!

Kelsey and Dennis' story continues in Part Seven. Needing to check in on his mom, even though she's batshit crazy and has the house booby-trapped, Dennis and Kelsey enter the house with a truck load of supplies. The traps are elaborate and nasty, and a little over the top for a crazy housewife until Dennis later explains that his mom used to be brilliant mechanical engineer. There's a budding romance between Dennis and Kelsey, but both have their own internal hang ups that keep them from truly communicating. There's also not a whole lot of zombie action here, but the ending of this section sets us up nicely for some gore in Part Eight. Onwards.

I was so hooked into part 6 that I continued right into part 7.

I am completely in love with Dennis and Kelsey.

They are so very interesting together. And the cool thing is neither realizes how into the other they are. In the midst of all this chaos and sickness... and of course, zombies, these two have found a closeness between them that cannot be denied for long.

Is it cliche' to have two characters in horror film or story find time for a mad love affair? Yes! And I freaking love it! It works, because why the hell not? Funny thing is Dennis even comments about this very thing in this installment. I laughed when I read that.

Sometimes, adding the cliche' thing into a story is exactly the right thing to do, because it makes sense and works with the plot.

I was applauding at the end of this installment. I WANT so badly for Kelsey and Dennis to make it... and that is so just like me, the romance addict at heart. =)

Can't wait for #8!
