This delightful series of board books is aimed at very young children. The bright pictures, with their patches of different textures, are designed to develop sensory and language awareness. Babies and toddlers will love turning the pages and touching the feely patches. 10 page book, 6.5" x 6.5".
All of the "That's not my" books are great fun for small hands like my 9 month old son and he's loved them all. However this is the worst one we've read - even he didn't find it very interesting - the shininess is all very similar.
They all follow a mouse looking for his something (in this case, of course, it's his robot). Every two page spread follows the same pattern - That's not my $NOUN! It's $NOUN2 is too $ADJECTIVE! (until the end, of course, where the robot (or whatever) is found.
Some have better textures than others, though. This one has shiny, crinkly, bumpy, prickly, squashy, and shiny - that, to me, because some of them repeat or just are a little meh, puts it in the less stunning textures group than the more stunning one.
The textures in this book are unusual and the simple repeated sentence makes it easy for a toddler to pick up on the words. My only disappointment was that the one that is "my" robot is my least favorite robot and it is the only one where its adjective doesn't describe a touchable texture since "sparkly" is made with a smooth foil with a design that catches the light, not that is touchable. But...it has robots!
This delightful series of books are easily recognisable! Each book follows a little mouse as he looks for something, in this case his robot!
The book is chunky enough to be held and enjoyed by young children and there aren't too many words making it ideal for early readers. There are plenty of different textures to experience on each page.
As with all books in the series, it's bright and colourful and a welcome addition to your child's bookcase.
This book has great sensory words and is great for babies. Also, the touchy-feely pages help interest children in books. Look for the mouse on each page. Check out my page to purchase this book: www.ubah.com/s2995
We first discovered this from the local library. Dahlia has had so much enjoyment out of it. We have taken it in cars and on planes with her. We have now purchased our own and cant wait for it to arrive in the mail. Also we bought "That's not my Monster" and hoping it is just as good!
Very simple book, but the sensory elements make it a winner here. Nice big and simple illustrations, chunky pages easy for chunky fingers to turn. It's basic, but it does exactly what you want it to.
