Bulls, Bears & A Croupier: The insider's guide to profiting from the Australian stock market.

Rate this book
An experienced Australian fund manager explains how the share market can be a fun and simple place to operate if you take the right approach. The share market is awash with new opportunities to profit everyday as millions of shares in thousands of companies change hands. Even if half of your decisions go wrong you still have a genuine chance of generating a profit like the pros – it really is the easiest game on earth! Despite all of this the share market has lost its appeal for many people since the onset of the GFC. In Bulls, Bears and a Croupier Matthew Kidman explains why a new bull market, with the potential to increase stock prices tenfold, is just around the corner and readers need to prise open their wallets. With more than a decade of experience as a professional fund manager, Kidman deconstructs the share market, explodes the myths and turns traditional thinking on its head to show new and experienced investors alike that the share market can be a lot of fun and you can make a lot of money. You just have to know how!

EVERYONE YOU MEET IN DAILY LIFE CAN DELIVER AN INSIGHT, AND SOMETIMES BE A CATALYST FOR A PROFITABLE TRADE.

Kidman was a journalist at SMH until 1998 when he joined WAM, where he stayed for 13 years.

At WAM we operated with a trading stop-loss rule of 10%.

You cannot lose faith in your ability to pick stocks.

Don't get carried away with your own self-importance.

WAM has averaged 20% cash since 1999.

Lynch explains how you can pick up some great stock tips by observing whats going on around you in everyday life.

Don't let a good concept blind you the fact the business has no track record of profitability and the management team unproven in the business.

View your portfolio as if you had inherited it from someone else. When it comes to investing you must spend a lot of time considering when to sell and then acting on your plan.

At WAM 50% of the portfolio they aggressively traded and the other 50% were LT investments. Didn't apply 10% stop for the LT investments.

Companies that have a right of way because of Government regulation should be viewed with great suspicion by investors.

You should take as many floats as possible but move them on hastily.

Chris Stott joined WAM in 2006.

IF there is one thing that took up most our time at WAM it was the search for a catalyst.

An advantage of investing in a LIC is that they have to hold an AGM so that you can meet the manager and ask questions.

In 1942 the US market was still 75% below the level in reached in October 1929.
