My Great Idea, an inspirational book showcasing practical, innovative ideas to solve everyday problems, is the latest addition to our successful FamilyFun book series. Filled with creative parenting and problem-solving ideas-many straight from parents who read FamilyFun magazine-My Great Idea tackles such challenges as sibling rivalry, harried morning routines, cranky pre-dinner hours, anxiety about moving to a new home; getting kids to do chores, and many more.
Many great ideas! We already instituted "YES" day at our house, and it was a great success. The idea is that kids get told "no" so often when they have requests, either due to timing or the sheer magnitude of the request, so we have a day in which to say "yes" to some of those requests. So on Saturday, my kids got to have pancakes for breakfast, the girls got to have their fingernails painted, and then we took the whole family to the zoo. It was great fun, and the kids absolutely loved it!
I love this book. It's not one that you would sit down and read cover to cover. I leave it sitting in my bathroom. I read from it often and when I find fun ideas that would work for our family I use those ideas. It's all the ideas in the Family Fun magazine from people across the country. It's a very cool book! I highly recommend it for any family trying to find great ways to become closer and to be more organized.
So many tips, I had to read small sections each day. Otherwise I'd read so fast, the suggestions would all haze together. I wish the pictures were bigger. Also would've liked if the tips were somehow organized by ages. Something simple like toddler vs. school-age or pre-literate vs. reading. Worth keeping on-hand for a few years to come.
