Boy is this book hard to review. I can break this book up into 2 parts. First 40%, and second 60%

1st Half

The book starts off in full force. We are introduced to a ton of characters, and a ton of future world terminology. I have no idea what anything is, and its not really explained very well. For the first part of the book I was very confused. Because everything was just kind of thrown at me I had to keep rereading parts, and I kept getting the secondary characters mixed up. I was about ready to give this book 2 stars until it hit its stride.

2nd Half

The longer I stayed with the book the better it got. The more things started clicking into place. The more the characters started connecting with me, and the more interesting the story got. The last 100 pages or so saved the book for me. The action was definitely action filled.

I think this book could use work on world building, character building, and general clarity. It was often so fast paced that I just couldn't keep up, which made me not care if I did. Overall though, a decent read once you get through the beginning.

Hi All,

So I might be a bit biased. I am the author and this is my baby. So yes, I love it. This book was a world-wide collaboration. I really mean that. People from all over the world stepped up to help me bring this story to life. Betas, mentors, readers, librarians, and even agents offered encouraging words of wisdom during this journey. They saw the potential even when I sometimes felt like giving up. At the end of the day, it will all boil down to you...my beautiful readers, and loyal fans. It's all about what you choose to take away from the story just because you can. Thanks for stopping by.

Yours in Prose,

**I received this book by the author for an honest review**

I had a hard time deciding on my rating for this book so I have settled on 2.5 stars.

Pros: The first few chapters of this book sounded promising. Did I like it at first yes! It had Angel's,Bad Angel's,Magician's,Trackers and some other cool ideas. The Main character was a girl and she had a twin brother which was another plus for me(if you know me you know why :D ). I also liked the mystery of what happened or what was happening to her brother "Micha" since he has been in a coma for some time. I thought this book would be a very good read considering all the cool stuff going for this story with the mystery and romance that I knew were coming soon! I also loved the intro which stated the "Creed for the Nation of Corunm";it gave me serious goose bumps!

Cons: This book started out really slow. We found out that her brother was in a coma and she didn't know why. Then after that came ton of world building...At first I was thinking okay were in a Dystopian kind of future where the government rules and that technology played a huge part in this society. The thing that turned me off was that the world building went on and on and I didn't quite capture the setting and the author focused on too many things instead bringing it to a whole.
There were also to many characters for my liking and the different categories or labels that the people had (i.e. Historian,Tracker,Magician&etc, etc) made me even more confused to where I got frustrated by going back and forth to write down what everything meant. I also didn't get the relation between the two main character's and it seemed a little rush to me as well as the action. Yes, I was dying for some action but when it came I was very confused on why the Tainted and the Caducceans were fighting and I still dont get why their enemies or why there was this big war against the two? Can anyone explain?

Altogether this was an "eh" read...I felt like I liked it sometimes and others I was left scratching my head. Will I continue this series? Yes. Why? I think this has potential to be a good story but it just needs to be cleaned up a tad bit and it was too long to be so slow moving. I will continue so I can get the answer's to all my questions and I still want to know the ending as well.

Chela lives in Haynes Castle. A dystopian city, created after the Tidal Wars. The Tidal Wars were fought between the Angel factions of Tainted and Caduceans. Alchemy and angel-bloods have been outlawed in the cities by humans. However there are some still hidin' within' the city. Chela and her twin Micha are some of them.

Chela's twin is in a comatose state after "falling" from a roller coaster. Chela on the other hand is of the belief that he was pushed by the Tainteds, because her brother knew something and had quit taking their Ale-meds the are supposed to take twice a day. Some time has passed and Chela forgets to take hers one day and finds that she feels more energetic and her powers are starting to appear. Chela is of Epiclesium, a higher tier angel/human hybrid.

Chela is looking for answers as to what happened that fateful day at the park and a cure to help her brother. Along the way she meets Faris, a cursed Caducean hiding as the city's Champion and Seth, a Tainted hiding as a Thoughtmaster of training. Both want to use her for their own purposes to start or win another war. Who is she to trust, Faris or Seth?

I really enjoyed reading this book. There is plenty of action to even out the romance. The book flows nicely, not even an occasion speed bump. If you liked Fallen, I think you would enjoy reading this series also.

Oh my let me breath a little here!! (takes in a deep breath to compose self before writing)lol What can I say, except, When Copper Suns Fall is an absolutely stunning and amazing piece of fiction. It is breathtaking, captivating, awe-inspiring, highly unique and wonderfully written. I was so taken aback at how I catapulted myself into the story and was swept up by it. I kept wanting more and what did I get...MORE!!

KaSonndra Leigh weaves a very magical, mystical and highly unique story that combines all the elements of the paranormal fantasy of celestial beings (aka Angels) within a futuristic dystopian society. The year is 2067 and it has been 55 years since the nation formally known as America was hit by a war called the Tidal Waves. This was a very dark moment in time where the light and dark celestials battled against each other and the ones to suffer for it were the Earth and all that lived on it. Since then the Nation of Corunum was formed and along with it a society made for all those to confirm.

Amongst those living within this new nation is Chela Prizeon. A very strong minded girl of fifteen years. She is very outspoken, highly courageous, 100% selfless and one who knows how to stand her ground and always get what she wants. Chela discovers something about herself and twin brother Micah (who has been in a coma for a year) that catapults her life from utter formality to extreme chaos. She is hit with absolute truths about herself and discovers who she is and what she can do, and it's all up to her i.e she wields the power to change the world. Chela is a fighter. She fights for her brother, for her friends, for her father and for the future of her world as she knows it. But she does not do this on her own. Enter Faris "The Protector!" Oh what can I say about the very dark and mysterious Faris. He has many hidden secrets that unfold as you read and you get to know and understand him so much more because of them. He is utterly devoted to protecting Chela (even though she can protect herself most times) and they are connected by a bond forged by the grace of light itself.

I very much fell in love with these characters and the story that sealed their fates. KaSonndra Leigh is a very gifted writer who has the ability to make the reader visualise everything that is written. Very creative and highly imaginative! I was so blessed to receive an advanced copy of this book from KaSonndra herself and am so thankful for having the chance to read an amazing story. I cannot wait for the next one! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and devoured it within one day as will you.

Sixteen-year-old Chela Prizeon wants to save her brother, and in doing so she gets mixed up with fallen angels, good guys and bad guys.

I loved this book! I loved loved loved it! The whole universe that is created is amazing, and how everything works such as the political business, occupations, the abilities various people possesses. It is just so amazing!

For once I did not dislike the main character! It is a fault in me to almost always hate the main character but yet I did not :D ! And I loved that there were 3 guys around, and not only one guy.

I basically loved everything. I am so happy about this book I cannot stop saying that I loved it! :D

One minor negative error I found was the missing "'s when some of the conversations began or ended..

Looking forward to be reading the next two books in this series!

Given the chance to read this book after seeing it and going to myself "this seems good" I nearly fainted, dramatically styled! I started off reading it going ". . .Hum- where is this going?" It seemed to dull down at points, even though the book started off grabbing my attention with "My brothers hand twitched." It rather got me all excited, then seemed to fade out into less interesting things yet vital parts to the story. I quickly got wrapped back into the book at the mention of healers, illusionists, etc. The first thing in my mind, was quickly Final Fantasy (because apart from being a reader I fancy myself a gaming nerd.) So at the mention of illusionists my mind went straight to happy-thoughts-of-gaming. (Which is a great big PLUS+ in my world!) So with the picture of
description (Illusionist from Final Fantasy.) I rather speed-read (having to re-read) just so I could see what they did. (I truly felt like a class A dork at this point.)

Straight onto my review:
At first the story went off grabbing my attention (as noted above) however afterwards it became a little dull (I guess because it started off so exciting I left little room to want to hear details.) It starts off with the main charachter's brother Micah's hand moving, and being in a coma like state it was rather exciting! (I started coming up with all kinds of things in my head at this point....proof of how excited I was to read this!) But what I more enjoyed and honestly made me smile was how the author put their names Micah and Chela together and showed that they meant "consoling prize." Which I thought was something nice added in.
I continued on through the book, finding it moving rather fast pace which made me worry about how this is going to span over 200+ pages, and honestly it did well!
The fast pace (though at times I wish it would have slowed down so I could enjoy it more---but that is why I personally I was unable to give this "5" big stars. Sadly~some of it just moved too fast.) However to quickly recover, there was a lot of information in this book, and that needed to be there for when more books come in this series (at least I would hope!)
Though the other parts of the book I found myself excited, curious, and sometimes rather bored with the details. But all over it was so worth waiting for!

I give this book a soild 4.5, my only complaint which is on a personal level was how fast some things moved in the story. Other than that, nothing was bad about it. It had a pretty kick-butt list of people, and just....Wow! What can I say, I utterly enjoyed it, simple as that. Though I am fighting off the urge to tell more (I don't want to have to place spoiler alert.) I am just going to say:
"Read it, this book is something unique, something very unexpected---I didn't expect half the stuff and yet almost every page suprised me. It played out like a movie in the palm of my hands, one I kept wishing I would be sucked into (even if my thoughs were stuck on a video game.) There have been few books I wish I could have been apart of, but this book....Suck me in! Though I would be in trouble a lot! I still wish to be sucked write into the text and gobbled up into the story this book provided me with."
This was one of the best books I have started this month out with, there is little I compare it to (beside my video game obsession) and thus proved to be A story under the copper sun.

Thanks for a wonderful book, I cannot wait to see what is next! Time to charge my e-reader after reading it for the second time (so I could re-read the parts I got to excited and over-looked. Just to allow you to know, it will happen to you too! You'll get so excited you'll end up needing to re-read some parts!)

First and foremost I would like to thank the author KaSonndra Leigh for sending me a free ebook of this amazing story When Copper Suns Fall! It was captivating, wonderfully written and a stunning debut into the YA world. If you haven't had a chance to read this book you need to as soon as it is released! It was extremely unique and has a story line that pulls you in until you can't believe you've already reached the end of the book!

When Copper Suns Fall tells is set in a dystopian society set in 2067, 55 years after the war Tidal Waves struck American and the country as we know it has been completely changed. KaSonndra Leigh does a wonderful job mixing paranormal in with a dystopian society. When the celestial beings had their war 55 years prior between the light and dark every thing that lived on the planet suffered. Some time after the war the Nation Corunum was brought together and this is where Chela Prizeon (our main character) lives.

Chela is a strong, selfless and courageous lead character. I instantly loved her. The story starts off with Chela fighting the people taking care of her twin brother Micah, who is in a coma, they want to give up hope on him and use his body for research. Chela cannot let this happen and she is determined to find a way to stop them. As soon as she makes her decision to do this her life catapults in a new direction. Chela finds out that there is something different about her and her brother. She finds that she is filled with this power that could possibly change the world. I loved that Chela was so determined and strong willed. She fights for everything and everyone she loves and cares for.

Chela doesn't have to fight alone though. Faris is a mysterious guy who as soon as he enters Chela's life changes things. He is filled to the brim with secrets that leave you dying to figure out. They do unfolds as the story moves on and what you find out leaves you breathless. He is a swoon worthy guy and is as devoted to protecting Chela as she is him.

What else can I say besides that I loved this book so much! I absolutely loved Chela and Faris! The story was wonderfully written in a way that the reader is swept up in it. I never wanted it to end and I cannot wait until the sequel is released! I'm tell you people you don't want to miss this one!!

Wow! This was such a great book! It took me a while to figure out what was going on in this world because everything was so different, but once I got my bearings, I loved it so much! KaSonndra Leigh really creates such a rich, and detailed world that it is insane to think that it used to be the United States. It's so different. I especially loved how everything was there for a reason, every person, every place, and every item came into play later on in the book. And not always in the ways that I had imagined. That is great story telling.(it is more like great world building)

Chela is so kick butt and awesome. I admired her so much! She will stop at nothing to find out what happened to her brother. I love that she questions everything. She will do whatever it takes, no matter what stands in her way. And boy oh boy did she have a lot of obstacles in her path. But she never even faltered- she just keep plowing right through everything. And she even attracted the attention of multiple guys. The guy factor was a problem for me. She has this nice, sweet, loyal best friend who clearly cares about her a lot. Those are all the things that I love in male characters, so it was really hard for me to see him competing with Faris. I have such a soft spot for Jalen. He is so awesome.

Faris is pretty great too, but I kind of wanted it to be Jalen right from the start. Faris is a good guy too, so he did have that going for him. I really grew to like him and I ended up wanting Chela and Faris to get together but I still felt a little conflicted with good ole Jalen. I guess we will see what happens in book 2. But I do have one complaint about Faris. What is it with all the guys in books lately being described as "hot with long hair"? Sorry, but long hair on a guy just does not do it for me. So whenever they would describe Faris' ponytail, I would conveniently not picture him that way.

When Copper Suns Fall is such an excellent book! I went into the book expecting to enjoy it and I came out of it wanting to read it all over again. I loved it so much more than I thought I would!! It exceeded all of my expectations. The world just sucks you right in and the characters really come to life. Great book, and I cannot wait to read the next one!

I really liked this book a lot. Chela was a strong main character, more believable then many others I've seen. The other characters too were likewise individual and interesting, particularly the three main guys Seth, Faris and Galen. I liked the sorta dystopian world that was presented and the writing style was very visual and unique in some ways. The story itself too was interesting with lots of twists and turns. I also applaud the fact that it did not end in a typically happy romantic way - this added more depth and realism to the story as the events were not just glossed over as could so easily have been done. Though I'm sure we have certainly not seen the last of Faris, I thought that him choosing to leave made him out to be a better character as by doing so he was truly looking out for Chela's interests then putting her in further danger by staying. Overall I think the writing style and the story flowed quite well and I never found myself getting bored even at times when there was little action going on. The only reasons that this didn't get five stars are relatively minor issues which bugged me. Sometimes I felt that not enough information was given as to certain elements of the world which stopped me understanding it properly. For example, I never was quite sure what the S.O.P.A's were and a few things were taken for granted that the reader would know what they were which I didn't. Also, I did find myself getting a bit confused with some of the side characters - there were quite a few and I often got muddled as to which was which and who's side they were on. A re-read though of the book would probably help me with this.
I liked the idea of presenting both sides of the opposing factions too as through seeing so much of Seth, it helped develop the idea that perhaps the Tainted are not as evil as they are made out to be and perhaps Chela may even find herself sympathising more with them in the future.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and will most likely read the sequel.

Thank you Ms. Leigh for giving me a chance to read this book. This is a wonderful story, starting with the beautiful cover to the essence of the story.
I enjoyed reading this book a lot, and now that I am through, I’m going to catch up on my sleep. That’s how good the book was as I read page after page, eager to know what happened next.

The story starts off slow as Ms. Leigh gives us a view of the world she has created. The story is built around a dystopian society where rules are the order of the day. Chela the 15 year old female protagonist is determined to find out what happened to her brother who has been lying in a coma for one year after an accident and infection of the glutovirus. As her 16th birthday draws closer, she stops taking her medication provided by the government thinking back on words her brother had warned her about the medications and is more resolute to investigate the events that might have led to her brother being where he is. She meets two boys; The mysterious Faris who has a secret of his own and becomes her Protector, and Seth who also has a secret of his own and wants her for his own purposes. They completely change the way she sees life, and leads to her finding out who she really is, the role she is meant to play in life and difficult choices she has to make.

Ms. Leigh created characters I fell in love with, even the minor characters in the story. Chela’s character development was well drawn out. At first we see a girl who abides by the rules and is shy, though determined. As the story advances, we catch a glimpse of her growth, as she realizes her full potential and fights to protect the people she loves, even with the huge responsibility hanging over her head.

I enjoyed how she weaved the story, her descriptions of the world through Chela’s senses.
I look forward to When Copper Suns Fall follow-up story and I highly recommend it.

I started reading this book blind. KaSonndra sent me a message, asking if I could read her book and post my thoughts on it.

I did just that. I didn't look at the cover or read the summary, the synopsis, or even the title until it popped up on my Kindle.

May I just say: the first page drew me in. It offered a slight insight to the world this novel was set in, but didn't give enough information for the reader to know already what was going to happen.

Things I liked:
1. The characters. Namely Faris, Chela, and even Seth.
2. The time-set. roughly post-reality/pre-big brother on the literary timeline.
3. The secrets! I usually don't like mysteries, but Leigh wrote them so they kind of snuck up on me and bugged me until I finished the last page.
4. The society. The "everyone's gifted except you, oh wait you're not even in the same class" kind of plot twist that I loved in Open Minds.
5. The style. Leigh managed to write from a teenage girl's viewpoint without sounding like...well, a teenage girl. I love that.

Things I didn't like:
1. Not much. I'll be honest--whenever I read a book, particularly a free one, I tend to hone in on mistakes or sentences that didn't flow right. I didn't find any of these. I can say I didn't quite like the way Chela's father kept secrets or her step-relatives. But who would, really?

What I look forward to:
1. The sequel.
2. Telling other people about this book.
3. Fangirling over the storyline with people who have already read this.
4. Paying money for the next book/edition. I love supporting authors I love.

WHEN COPPER SUNS FALL was, quite simply, a wonderful read.

I feel obligated to preface this review by admitting that dystopian novels aren't among those with which I'm overly familiar. Thus, my point of comparison is likely less broad than for other reviewers. That said, one should take away from this that the book really appealed to me, even though it falls outside of my "norm." To me, this is the sign of a great book.

Author Leigh's world-building is very well done. She easily made me envision this not-so-distant future without a lot of intrusive explanations. I quickly joined with her main character, Chela, and enjoyed witnessing her growth and awakening throughout the book. Chela's quest to discover what is happening to her twin brother, Micah, serves as the driving force throughout the book and really unifies the plot.

There is a love triangle involved, which had me wary. This particular plot device has been overused in YA fiction for quite some time. Fortunately, Ms. Leigh didn't dwell on this element, so it didn't distract from the story. Instead, it helped Chela understand more clearly the feelings she has for Faris, her mysterious love interest and protector.

With hints of The Hunger Games and Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush, Hush saga infused in the tone of the book, Ms. Leigh has a real winner here. She sets it up for a sequel and I'm eager to check it out!

I'm actually surprised at myself at how fast I read this book lol. I guess it's because it's on my iPad. It's happened before. ;P Another reason is probably because this book was so wonderful. Especially unique. I loved everything about it! The only thing I didn't like about it is Seth. Blah. I just don't know my feelings about him just yet. But Faris....oh Faris. He makes me go asdfghjkl;. ;P

Again, this book way absolutely awesome. I also loved that this took place in North Carolina, where me and the author are both from. :D So that was especially cool!

Okay, the author gave me this e-ARC in exchange for a review. And I know this is short and crappy. But the things on my mind right now are way to spoilery to put in here. So I'll wait a couple days after it comes out in the beginning of December. :) Again, sorry!

When Copper Suns Fall by KaSonndra Leigh was definitely a different YA premise than most books out there now ~~ Angels in a dystopian society. For a first book, I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely be reading more of Ms Leigh's books.

3.5/5 star rating

I was very excited to read this debut novel. The brief description of this story related to a genre that I enjoy reading. So I began this novel with a degree of excitement to see if it could deliver.
I was instantly caught up from the first page, when the story begins to Chela seeing her ill and comatose brother’s hand move. The following scenes of her ardent pleas to have that small movement acknowledged by her brother’s caregivers, and the resulting threat-like conversation with the physician, had me ready to be caught up in the story line that I was expecting and was promised. Instead the story seemed to go into a different focus.

I found myself in a constant state of mild confusion as I read through this story. As a visual reader, I had a really hard time connecting with this story, and couldn’t quite picture this world that was created by this author, which was really unfortunate.

There was a lack of information in regards to this Great War that was spoken about and ended up, essentially, the catalyst for the society that developed after the fact. There was a “Memory” triggered with Chela that hinted at what may have caused or been part of this great change, but nothing definitive. I did too much guess work on what happened previously to explain the type of world these characters were now living in. I wish the author had found a way to really paint a picture of what exactly occurred at that time.
The same lack of information didn’t help in establishing how exactly the Tainted and different hierarchies of angels intermingled with humans, and what exactly their ‘gifts’ or ‘talents’ were. I had a very difficult time following who was who/what in this book.

There was a wide range of characters that were not developed well enough for me to keep them straight. That was not the case with the main characters in this novel, and I was able to establish who and what they were, but once all the other characters became involved in scenes, I quickly became confused as to what team they were on, and how they related to the characters again.

The romantic relationship developed too quickly and unbelievably for me. I didn’t really understand what the exact connection was for these two characters. And because of that lack of connection, I couldn’t quite comprehend how deeply attached they were to each other. It felt kind of superficial.

There was plenty of action in this book, but these scenes seemed to miss a certain fluid quality that one would expect from action. These action sequences involving these characters just did not connect well together, and felt staggered.

There was not enough development in the quest to answer all the questions posed surrounding Micah’s fall, and the virus that is talked about in the description of the book. In fact, the virus is barely discussed AT ALL! And that, for me, was disappointing as I was pretty interested in that subject based on the description of the book.

All of the above being said, I did enjoy this book enough to see it through. The main characters were well developed enough as individuals – that being Seth, Chela and Faris. As individuals, they were enjoyable and believable characters with well developed personalities, histories and experiences that allowed me to connect with them.

I found this story to be somewhat reminiscent of “The Hunger Games” for me, at least the first half of the book. It definitely has the potential to please many readers that enjoy this type of story. It was certainly very unique and imaginative, but most importantly, it was original. I just wish it had flowed a little better and maybe a little slower to really allow this world and the people in it to sink in.

KasSonndra Leigh did a commendable job for her first debut novel, and I am very confident that both this book and her next book will be well received. I plan on continuing the series, and hope that some of the questions that I was left with from this book, are answered in the next.

Happy reading!

When I was approached by the author to read this novel I did not have any reservations and immediately said yes. In fact, I was so excited and thrilled after reading the blurb and viewing the cover I knew this was definitely a novel I would enjoy. Needless to say, When Copper Suns Fall lived up to my expectations and was still able to surprise me at the end with one heck of a plot twist.

Copper Suns is a dark urban fantasy set within a futuristic dystopian society. The year is 2067 and it’s been 55 years since America was engulfed in the Tidal Years, a great celestial battle that essentially changed the world. As a result the Nation of Corunum was formed, a strict society with rigid laws and customs governed by the iron fisted Tribunal. Conformity is a must for those who wish to survive in the Hill Boroughs and Dim Cities.

Chela Prizeon, our main character, is not your average run-of-the-mill fifteen-year-old. Coming from a society where almost everyone has “gifts” Chela finds herself in the midst of a battle greater than anything she could have imagined. Her tenacious attitude sometimes gets the best of her, but in the end you can’t help but cheer her on as she deals with all the obstacles Leigh tossed her way. I fell in love with her story and the two men (or three) who battled for her heart.

Enter Faris, and the one word that sums him up: yummy. He is every girls dream protector. A dark and mysterious young man who is devoted to protecting Chela from the forces who wish to use her for their evil devices, willingly or against her will. As his story unfolds, readers get the chance to discover his secret, one that adds depth to this budding romance. Seth, the second mysterious man in Chela’s life, is another delicious character who readers will either love or hate. Yes he has his evil tendencies, but he oozes sexiness, and I couldn’t help but want to know more about him. These three characters combined made for one heck of a turbulent rollercoaster ride of emotions.

Overall, When Copper Suns Fall is a book that should be on every reader’s wish-list. The worldbuilding, character development, and mystery are all spot-on. My only complaint is that it didn’t have a glossary of terms; something I feel might have been helpful when devouring this three hundred plus page novel. It’s a heartfelt story with a one-of-a-kind world, and I can’t wait to read the sequel.

I was not sure what to expect from this book, but being blown away from start to finish isn’t what I expected. It was so beautifully written, it had me captivated right from the movement of Chela’s twin brother’s hand (Micah), who is in a strange coma.

KaSonndra Leigh did an amazing job with this book. I fell in love with the characters, its not like most fantasy books I had read, it has that deep meanings and feelings in it. I really loved the main character Chela, she is so strong, determined, adventurous and fiercely protective of those she cares about.
This book has it all, we have angels, and magic, and its set in a dystopian type future, but with all the deep feelings I mentioned in the fantasy world.

Plenty excitement with these characters who are emotionally charged with the adventures of the celestial beings and angelic realms. I loved it.

I love the fierce determination Chela has to find out what happened with her twin brother, and why he is still in this coma, she feels something is not right, and is determined to save him. Before they pull the plug.

I do not want to say much past what is in the blurb, so not to spoil anything, but will say, I enjoyed the romance delevoping between Chela and……. Yeah, not gonna tell you who, lol. You can find out. As in the beginning, you do not know, 2 mysterious hotties show up, and it keeps you guessing for a bit. Don’t want to ruin that for you.

Overall a fantastic read, for teens up to upper adults, it has it all for everyone. Your heart will swell up at the mushy parts, and get angry along with Chela too.

5 out of 5 stars for me. Pick it up, you wont be sorry. I am looking forward to the sequel.

KaSonndra Leigh's debut novel mixes angels, alchemy and dystopia and the hell result is one hell of a first installment!

Chela doesn't believe her brother's accident was truly an accident. Her determination to find out who put her brother Micah in a coma puts her right in the middle of a war between two groups which aren't supposed to exist anymore. When both sides are interested in her, Chela must fight to do what's right while investigating the secrets within her city and within herself.

When Copper Suns Fall is an original novel that blends dystopia and angels very well with dashes of romance. The novel is constantly moving both in exploring Chela's world and introducing new characters and conflicts. There was never a moment where I was bored, instead I craved more information and more interactions. One thing I wanted more of was development of the world. Chela's world and Castle Hayne was extremely vast so I would have loved to read more about it and its history.

While the characters were numerous and lent to the plot very well, I wanted to know more. I felt that they could have been fleshed out a bit more, especially Chela's Historian father who probably knows more about about this secret war than he has let on. Regardless I loved the characters and I can't wait to learn about them in the upcoming novel, especially the love interest Faris. Speaking of the love story, while both Chela and Faris were very interesting and strong characters I could not make myself care about them as a couple.

Lastly, the writing style was quick to capture my attention and keep it. KaSonndra paints the world so clearly that I could imagine it actually existing in a near future. The characters were distinct and the conflict was well written out.

KaSonndra Leigh's debut novel in her Copper Suns series is an impressive start in what will surely be a great series. With a complex plot and strong writing skills, When the Copper Suns Fall is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

I wasn't draw into the book immediately. I had a hard time picturing the descriptions the author was describing. Unfortunately for me, I really wanted to like this book. Some parts felt rushed, some parts flushed out nicely. The lack of clear descriptions left me unable to picture what the author was describing. This was very frustrating for me and I struggled to "get into" the book.

The book lacks background information about the "Great War" and the lack of vivid descriptions about places left me wondering what the heck was going on. The author could have painted the picture for me better and explained the background information about the society that the reader is expected to know. I also had a difficult time understanding the hierarchy of the angel classes and how they mixed with humans. Those humans with chromosomal gifts were also hard to understand and how they were classified. The characters needed to be developed just a bit further and the hierarchy of classes explained just a bit better.

The book end up frustrating me without answering all my questions. I wanted more background, more character development, explanation of the virus and why they must take the Ale-meds. The description of the book made me want to read the book but I finished it with more questions than answers. I was hoping the book would have lived up to the description, but I was disappointed.

I did enjoy the book and did finish it. It has the potential to be a great book. The story is unique and original. It didn't feel like another dystopian book I have read. I just expected it to flow better and paint me pictures of the descriptions and not feel so hurried. A few more pages wouldn't have hurt the story and might have helped to address the lack of background and the character development as well as the pace of the story.

As a first time author, KsSonndra Leigh did an admirable job. I will read the next book in the series and I am hopeful my questions will be answered in that book.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to read the book and review it for free!

This book was a sneaky surprise for me. Meaning I went into it with skeptical eyes, but came out with an entirely different perspective. I even joined this site so I could gush over this stunning piece of fiction.

I bought this book off of Amazon. I'll admit that I bought it mainly because of the cover. It's pretty, the trailer is neat. But I didn't know how the writing would stack up. Most times, that's where these books by small presses fall short. Either that, or the editing. Not so in this case! At first, I was a bit overwhelmed by some of the world building. But this is a dystopian novel, and I've come to expect to be a little overwhelmed with those. Soon Leigh dives into the storyline and never lets me go.

Action. If you love it, there's plenty here in these pages. There is a war going on between humans, descendants of angels, and fallen angels. Magic has been outlawed. Kids that have genes enhanced by radiation are grouped into five classes. Others have special abilities that could get them killed. There's a new government in this futuristic world.

Romance. At first, I thought this would be another teenage romance between girl who can't have broody guy who obsesses over a TSTL main character. Once again, not so in this case. What makes this young adult book so unique when compared to others is that even though the main character, Chela, has a Protector in the dashingly handsome Faris, she doesn't depend on him at all times. In fact, Chela saves Faris a few times. A very welcome change from the distressed damsel syndrome we read about these days.

Overall, this was a surprisingly good read with a plot twist at the end I never saw coming. The premise of angels in a dystopian society is highly unique. The writing was almost flawless. I'm looking foward to reading Leigh's sequels in this series. And ready to pay good money for her next installment. 5 stars because I'd recommend this to anyone.

When Copper Suns Fall is urban fantasy set within a dystopian society, 55 years hence, in an America that had had been engulfed in the Tidal Years, a great heavenly battle that changed the world. As a result the Nation of Corunum was created, a typically rigid dystopian society based on strict adherence to laws and customs provoking feat and distrust, governed by a questionable and unbending leadership, called the Tribunal. Survival is only ensured by conformity.

Chela Prizeon, our main protagonist, is nearly sixteen, and while clearly one of the gifted, allowed to remain within the city walls, she also benefits from some of her father’s VIP status. The story kicks off with her twin brother in a suspicious coma, from the glutovirus, and Chela committed to pursue helping him whatever the cost. She is a tenacious, at times naïve, heroine who, while coming to terms with her own unique place and destiny in this angelic world, fights impressive physical battles in her pursuit of the truth and family, and emotional battles, namely for the three men who vie for her attention and commitment.

Chela’s only hope is one of the three angelic groups in this story, the Caduceans, sworn to protect the last seven Light Keepers (amongst whom Chela discovers her own identity) and the ancient memories they share. This group is led by the enigmatic Faris, about whom one spends the novel asking oneself, ‘well is he a good guy or a bad guy?” This tension is very beautifully woven into the story, and in my opinion, one of its strengths.

In this promising debut, KaSonndra Leigh offers a world of secrets and high stakes, which while I found slow to comprehend and complex, is well developed, mysterious, painful and persuasive. It is full of unravelling memories, celestial creatures, grey villainy, challenging choices, and complex relational attraction and repellence, When Copper Suns Fall, is an original urban fantasy that promises well for its sequels.

Wow, this story was busy!! I don't feel like I got a chance to take a breath there was so much going on at any point, whether it was Chela's thoughts or action going on around her! I don't think I was prepared to have to pay so much attention to what was going on, so I had to really make myself take everything in. I still can't say for sure I fully grasp everything that went on in this book because there was so much beyond what was happening in each scene.

I really LOVE angel stories, so I was excited to see another dystopian involving celestial beings fighting against each other. Chela was an awesome heroine, and I loved discovering her powers and destiny along with her. She is so determined to save Micah that she's willing to put herself in harm's way at every turn. She starts out just as a strong fighter, and becomes so much more as she finally starts to accept who she is. I feel like Leigh held back as far as letting Chela really have that bad-ass heroine moment, but I'm hoping that's just because it will all come out in the rest of the series.

I loved Faris, the mysterious boy that bonded with Chela but infuriated her to no end. Finding out about him and his past was my favorite part of the story, because he was really a fascinating character. I loved him with Chela, too, they had great chemistry and they challenged each other in a way that made the story so much more captivating.

The line between good vs. evil was very blurred in this story, and there were so many secrets revealed that it was nearly impossible to keep up with who was on who's side. Seth, the "is he good or isn't he?" boy who wants Chela to follow his path, is a big question mark. I'm excited to see what he will mean for Chela and Faris, and who he ends up siding with in the end.

When Copper Suns Fall was an exciting, action-packed, captivating story, and it's sure to keep you reading!

I fell in love with this story right away. The author's writing is so expressive, it wasn't hard to fall into her world and get wrapped up in the mystery and suspense surrounding Chela. The secondary characters were pretty well flushed out also I'd like to say there were two main characters to this book Chela and Farris, but her two friends (she calls them the Bermuda Three)and some of the other characters were just as involved. This book starts out with Chela breaking one rule after another she seems to be pushed to act out by what's happening with her twin brother. The rule breaking lands her in a sort of reform camp called Minders Camp this sounds like a horrible situation for her to be in but it also teaches her so many things.
I don't want to give away the story so I will just say this is a unique approach to the genre the author has blended a apocalyptic society with the fallen, Chela's world just gets totally turned inside out with the events that take place. It's a wonderfully written YA novel and I would recommend even if you don't like YA that you read this.

"But a person’s spirit sometimes existed long after their physical body was gone. It could haunt your thoughts, sway your decisions, and follow you like a shadow, even if they were invisible."

KaSonndra Leigh. When Copper Suns Fall (Kindle Locations 5349-5350).

This was a free book given by the author through shut up and read discussion group.
Thanks for the free read!

I won this book in a member Librarything giveaway in exchange for an honest review.

This book is about a girl, Chela, who is related to the angels and is trying to solve the mystery of her brother's accident. She meets a lot of characters along the way and has powers that she never knew she had.

I am breaking my own rule when rating this book. I admit I was unable to finish it. Usually when that happens, I give a book one star. However, the strength in this book is the fact that it is obvious that the author has a broad imagination. I can sense that there is an interesting plot that is in Leigh's head, although I don't quite understand it.

I wasn't able to finish this book because of the choppiness of the prose. And it's odd because there are moments where there are paragraphs of elegance. But because of the oddity of this, it is hard to get a clear sense of what faction is against who and why and how to truly delineate the different type of magical folk. Plot-wise, the main character, Chela, is infuriating because she makes obvious mistakes that she already knows are mistakes and then gets angry when she gets in trouble. She also has a love interest that seemed incredibly similar to the antagonist (I will leave this vague as to not be a spoiler).

I do think there is promise of an interesting plot, but because of this issues, as it stands, the text is hard to get through. I think with a strong editor, this book could be greatly improved.

As I started reading, I was instantly drawn in. The main character thinking that she saw her comatose brother’s hand move was just that right emotional pull to get me interested. Unfortunately, my interest was brought to a screeching hault soon after that. The author never went into any detail as to how their society came to be, what the “Great War” was all about. I was so confused by the terminology that it was hard for me to make sense of the story. After reading more, I soon figured out that there would really be no explaination of those things, so I tried to put it in the back of my mind and continue reading. The story seemed to be bogged down with far too many details and the action packed moments were few and far between. The main character wasn’t very well developed and the supporting characters weren’t great. There was so many of them that they all became a big muddle of confusion. And her romantic interest felt somewhat forced to me. There seemed to be no “real” connection with them that it became incredibly hard for me to believe that they were bonded so closely. Overall it was a decent book. As a visual reader I would have liked to have had some more details and information about the world the author was trying to establish.

DNF ~30%

But it wasn't good. Oh no.

Might've been an older version, I think a newer one was recently posted.

Comments from progress notes:

note that I think I'm reading an older version, but this book is bad, very bad, really awful. The writing is often confusing, generally badly phrased, and Bad. There is no attempt for setting/worldbuilding to properly set things up, rather we just get a couple meaningless details as we go along. There is SOME worldbuilding, mind you, such as a chap2 intro to the various faction like groups

wasn't expecting a dystopia from my bad angel book but there's groups kids get sorted into, beyond the whole gov conspiracy. also, chap 5 not 1, there's an exact scene from mortal instruments. Like, I really don't like city of bones, but this was the same: girl goes to club w friends, is separated, follows weirdo, stumbled into back area, witnesses supernatural events. there's three supernat kids, two siblings...

anyway this is just really bad. why do I do this to myself? wish I could just upload my in-line comments. did you know I have Crooked kingdom to read? but I'm not. I'm reading this.

THE MC KNOWS ANGELS EXIST... SHE RUNS INTO THREE SO FAR AND CAN'T TELL. CAN'T GUESS.....

If you're a fan of "The Hunger Games", then you will certainely enjoy "When Copper Suns Fall" by KaSonndra Leigh. Chela Prizeon has spent most of her life keeping her true heritage hidden from everybody that she knows, including her best friends Jalen and Lexa who are all living under the rules set for them by a governing group called the Tribunal. When her brother Micah suffers a mysterious accident, she is determined to find out what actually happened. Chela finds herself in an entirely new world of trouble as secrets about her heritage begin to unfold, and she must choose between good and evil in order to protect the people that she loves. This book had me hooked from beginning to end, and I cannot wait for the next installment of this series!
