"No," Malfoy murmured. "No, don't - you don't have to get off, you're not that heavy."
"I'm not crushing you?"
"No. Just feels warm. Nice," Malfoy murmured sleepily. "Like I'm safe."
"Mr. Potter, is there something you would like to share with the class, or should I just take ten points from Gryffindor?"
"No sir," Harry said. "I mean, yes sir. Sorry." He turned to his notes and elbowed Malfoy lightly. "See?" he murmured. "He still hates me more than you. Isn't that worth a smile?"
And Malfoy gave a small chuckle before bending his head back to his work.
I've had this Marked For Later for a while, because of its length, and because I'm always wary of Drarry fics (I have zero interest in reading hate sex, or about a protagonist with no redeeming features to root for, but just as unappealing is a beyond-my-suspension-of-disbelief sweet or woke and altruistic interpretation of Malfoy), but you built this so plausibly, deeply, and sympathetically, that once I decided to start it, I just. kept. reading.
Draco, for all his manipulative canniness and sophistication in certain spheres much greater than Harry's, is a perfect abused-and-pampered teenage muddle of mixed emotions, hormones, bad data, mixed loyalties, etc., and the changes of opinion he does and doesn't eventually make re. Harry, his father, Voldemort, Slytherin House, blood purity, and marriage make sense, and help make it possible to understand Harry "getting attached" despite their political-plus differences. I also appreciate that consent was always explicitly given, despite the difficult circumstances, whether you see that as actual ethics or purely self interest on newly-bonded Draco's part.
You came up with a number of twists I didn't see coming, and a few I did, but all of which held me gripped by this young pair's story, and full of feels.
Other aspects I applaud include how this story has a cast featuring a number of developed secondaries good, bad, clever, foolish, and in-between (from more than Gryffindor!), and how it acknowledges that the traumatic mess they're going through would make normal class attendance and attentiveness outright impossible, and catching up no picnic.
I know there were more things I wanted to mention, and my comment doesn't really feel like it's conveying how much I wound up enjoying this fic, so I may come back to say more, but for now have some extra kudos and reactions in emoji form (not exactly in order): 😲😬🤗😢🎯🤗😲😭😱😠🤗😈😄🔥🤗💗😊🤗👌👏👏👏👏👏👏
P.S., I don't know if there's anything you can do, but none of the illustrations are visible anymore.
