My introduction to fanfic -- for a fandom I don't belong to and a series that I haven't even read beyond the first book -- gets a solid 4 stars.

Who knows why I decided to read this online freebie in the first place? Doesn't matter. I had enough vague familiarity with the characters (at least the major ones) to orient myself, and I do love a good enemies-to-lovers story. And this was enemies-to-lovers done RIGHT.

Sure, people can change, and people can change when they're in love -- but it's a process that can be excruciatingly slow, erratic, unpredictable, unreliable, fickle and painful. And limited. If the author doesn't want to violate her character's core identity, "change" can only be taken so far.

What has to change isn't just the character, but the other character's perception of him. Ideally, as enemies are forced together by circumstances, multiple facets of character and hidden dimensions of personality are slowly revealed. Or dragged kicking and screaming into the light of day, as the case may be.

I love watching that process unfold. I love watching two people who don't respect each other being gradually and reluctantly forced to recognize each other's worth. Recognize it, respect it, value it, embrace it -- and recognize, respect, value, embrace each other. Long for each other. Love each other. That's why enemies-to-lovers is a favorite of mine.

What Anna Fugazzi did here impressed me, and I'd buy her books if she ever decides to publish.

3.5 stars.

This was a totally endearing and engaging read. It wasn't merely some piece of HP fanfic in which Harry and Draco are just snogging each others brains out, not in the slightest--although they're, admittedly doing that, as well..
The author really gave some thought to the plot of this story, it was really quite well executed.

Draco and Harry suddenly have to face living with each other--but not just living together, but living as a married couple--due to a bonding curse. They have to deal with their growing sexual attraction to each other, and all that while hating each other, wanting nothing more than to kill each other, and they might just do that if it weren't for that little bonding curse that would cause the other partaking member of said marriage to die as well, if one spouse were to die...

It was very engrossing to read about those two mortal enemies trying to live with their new living arrangements that were forced on them, and eventually finding themselves actually caring for each other and falling in love. All that while staying very believably in their original character personalities. That's actually a major point in favour of this Harry/Draco fanfic as well--all characters were quite believable.

What made it even more interesting was that there actually was a evil plot against Harry that, in the grand scheme of things, would ensure Voldemort's rise while Harry'd be defeated for once and for all.

All in all, a very engrossing read that managed to capture me. I don't know if I'll ever be able to read HP and look at Harry and Draco the same way as before--but then, I don't know if I even want to. ;)

I really recommend this HP fanfcition, even if you're actually a non-Harry Potter fan.
I wouldn't call myself a fan by definition either, btw, but I can't deny that I enjoyed the HP books, some more than others...)

First read

It was so good!!! I'm starting to think the books I decide not to read are the ones I definitely need to read from now on. I felt like I was reading an actual Harry Potter book from the series rather than a fanfic honestly. Except the political part. This one had a lot of politics.

I also thought the author could have steered the book away from breaking their bond? The bond was shown as this precious thing but they ended up breaking it in four months and rebonding in just another month which seemed to...reduce the sacredness of it.

I wanted to honestly fucking murder Lucious Malfoy. Then bring him back to life and kill him again. You know it's serious when even Snape starts thinking it was just 'too much'.

And who knew Draco could be more than just the guy 'who hated Harry Potter and his friends'. I always thought he needed a more central role and that's what I got since- you know, he's the main character...

Other than the usual heroes of the book I did like Blaise. I liked how he seemed to agree but disagree with Draco all the time. And he seemed like a nice guy mostly, when he was not telling Draco he was a 'fucking idiot' for giving in and fucking Harry. Or telling 'I told you so' all the time.

Spot on with the weird names too. I especially liked Esoposito a lot lol. It's just a normal name but it fit right in with the weird as fuck wizard names.

Second read

That was some bloody fine chemistry 😩🤌.

It would have been four stars, not five, because there are elements I'm not quite satisfied with.
Like Esposito, for example.

Or not (much) Dumbledore present.

But there were so many things I loved about this fic.
-The Houses and character traits related to them. Showing that Harry could be a Slytherin.
-Fairly good ballance between snogging and plot.
-A good villain. And it's not even Voldemort.
-Good friends. I ♥ Pansy and Blaise.
-Shagging. LOL
-The Boy Who Blew
-Ummm... Shagging.
-Draco enjoying bottom!Draco. And his no-pressure attitude towards Harry when it came to sex.
-Who won the last Quidditch game. The job offer.
-The whole epilogue.

Excellent first half, but runs out of steam later on.

ETA: Better on the reread. This may have the best Draco ever and it doesn't do the handwavey thing where his divided loyalties get miraculously solved, or, you know, cured by magic dick. Harry is a bit bland in this, but it's free so rounding up.

Still one of my favorite drarry fics. The enemies-to-lovers part of this is just so spectacularly well done.

Some New Favorite Quotes:
"Care to tell me what that means for you?"
"No."
"Do so anyway."

Astute and cunning and calculating, yes, but they usually preferred to leave fearlessness to lesser, more expendable people--like, say, Gryffindors.

He signed again. Self-examination. Not something he was terribly fond of. Maybe he could just think about it later.

"I'd love to believe it was just a figment of my imagination, but then that would mean I came up with all of that on my own and that's even more disturbing."

"As long as you make sure your Inner Hufflepuff is Zacharias Smith, you should have no trouble."
"Smith?" Malfoy wrinkled his nose in distaste. "That-"
"Arrogant, sarcastic, hostile git?"
"Yes-" Malfoy suddenly got it and started laughing. "Fuck you very much, Potter."

Ginny pulled the Prophet closer. "I wonder if he's thought of legally changing his name to 'Convicted Death Eater Lucius Malfoy,'" she mused.

ORIGINAL REVIEW 18 February 2013
Wow, this was long. But not at all in a bad way. More in a fantastically-detailed, well-thought-out, took-time-for-character-development sort of way.

I read another review that said this was rather like one of the real books in that it didn't focus solely on the slash relationship, but it actually had a plot and introduced a problem that was solved by the end. That was indeed the case, and it made this great good fun to read.

I especially liked that we got to follow both Harry and Draco into each others' common rooms and dormitories. Those bits of the books where the characters are relaxing in the Gryffindor common room are some of the most enjoyable, and these were similar. It was especially fascinating to get to see more of what being a Slytherin is all about, and so, so fun to get to see some of Harry's Slytherinness coming out.

Another reviewer mentioned that she liked that the curse didn't turn into a ridiculous case of insta-love or even insta-sex and that it felt more true to the characters that way and I have to agree completely. That was part of the fun of this plot: getting to imagine how these characters really would act under these circumstances.

There was so much I liked about this story, but I think one of my absolute favorites is the epilogue.

4.5 stars, rounded up for pure awesomeness

Some Favorite Quotes:
You are just feigning abject stupidity, right? To fool the rest of us into a false sense of superiority?"

"Please. They're Gryffindors. Their idea of a dastardly plot is 'let's work really hard and endanger our lives for no good reason'."

Although, come to think of it, Malfoys weren't terribly fearless, when you came down to it. Astute and cunning and calculating, yes, but they usually preferred to leave fearlessness to lesser, more expendable people - like, say, Gryffindors.

"Go to hell," Draco hissed.
"Already there, thanks."

It had to do with the two of them overcoming everything they were up against and being able to build something together. Something bloody amazing.

A lot of what he was feeling was only due to the bond spell, he tried to remind himself firmly. Just a spell. The feelings of trust and tenderness and togetherness - yes, they felt wonderful and genuine, but they didn't necessarily mean anything. He and Malfoy might be spouses, but they were not really friends, not really lovers. All of this could very well wear off eventually. It could.
But in the meantime... it felt unbelievable.

"And stop looking at Malfoy like he's done something wrong," he said to the table in general. Malfoy looked up at him, startled, and Harry decided he'd had enough.

"No," Malfoy murmured. "No, don't - you don't have to get off, you're not that heavy."
"I'm not crushing you?"
"No. Just feels warm. Nice," Malfoy murmured sleepily. "Like I'm safe."

Oh, god, he was home.

"Mr. Potter, is there something you would like to share with the class, or should I just take ten points from Gryffindor?"
"No sir," Harry said. "I mean, yes sir. Sorry." He turned to his notes and elbowed Malfoy lightly. "See?" he murmured. "He still hates me more than you. Isn't that worth a smile?"
And Malfoy gave a small chuckle before bending his head back to his work.

Absolutely no clue on his face that he was inwardly demanding an explanation of himself as to what the fuck was wrong with him.

"If I may make a comment," Dumbledore said mildly. "I would like to remind all of you that every student here is under the protection of the school. Any persons contemplating harming a student under the misapprehension that they will suffer no consequences for that act should be aware that, whether or not they have to answer to that student's family, they will have to answer to me."

There was a brief pause. Then, from the Gryffindor table, a firm voice added, "And to me."

and Draco please if you're going to defend your father again kindly do it where I won't have to toss up my lunch on you, there's a good boy

Harry winced, abruptly realizing the depth of his tactlessness. He would make a list, he promised himself fervently. Stupid, Stupid Things I Have Said To People I Fancy. He would read it every single night, and perhaps that would inspire him to think before he spoke, so that he could stop adding to it.

It all came down to a choice.

Utter perfection! I LOVED this fanfic and although it was long, I did not want it to end. Enemies-to-lovers trope done realistically and perfectly. All matters were not resolved in the end, giving this fic (and Harry and Draco's romance) a realistic feel.

This was four stars for a solid chunk of the story, so I would definitely recommend it even though I had a tiny niggle with the curse details (which I can no longer remember the details of...) and she didn't quite stick the landing on the relationship part of the finale

2nd Read Review (2 stars):

I reviewed this before and thought it was pretty good, but I have to say that this is not a book that holds up very well under a second read. While I still think some things were good about it (how they instantly didn't switch from hating each other to loving each other, as well as the political and ideological change not happening overnight) I can't help but sum up this book in one word: boring. It takes what is an interesting story and stretches it out over an entire school year...which means there is a lot of fucking filler in this book. If you cut out all the unneed scenes, combined some of the others, and just focused on Harry and Draco this could have easily been a good 300 pages story...instead of the 600+ we have going on here. The original Harry Potter books can pull of writing about an entire year, and churning out 500, 600, even 700+ pages books, because they have actual plot and subplots going on to keep you interested. This story does not have that. Even the whole "whodunnit" was completely unnecessary to the plot. It is basically 600 pages of two boy bickering and fucking. It got old really fast.

1st Read Review (4 stars):

So this is a Harry/Draco slash fanfic that is set in an alternate universe where I think books six and seven never happened (or maybe it is just seven...it has been a while since I've read the books so I keep forgetting what happens exactly in which one. Probably have read way too many fanfics, as well). This book starts out near the beginning of year seven for Harry and Draco, right after they wake up from being hit with a bonding-curse. Basically they are magically tied/married to each other and there is nothing they can do about it. This is a problem because

a) they hate each other's guts
b) harry is sooooo not gay
c) they are basically mortal enemies
d) Draco's dad is a fucking evil douche who works for Whozy-Whatzit, The Great Asshat himself (or, Lord Voldemort, as he probably prefers)

And if it wasn't enough that they can't stand to be near each other (but the bond freaks out if they are more than a few feet away), and that Harry is having issues with the gay, something is seriously wrong with the bond they were cursed with, and it looks like old Voldy might now have to worry all that much about killing Harry off, cause the bond might just do it for him.

This is probably not near my top twenty of Harry/Draco fanfics, but I was pretty decent. I think it might have to do with the fact that since it was written before the publication of certain books, the alternate timeline always felt a little odd. I personally prefer book set after book seven, though there are some notable exceptions, but overall this wasn't bad. It was just weird that Dumbledore was up walking around, when I kept wanting to say, 'go away...you're dead.'

I think the relationship that took place here was really good. The bond doesn't force them to love, just to be around each other...constantly. Also totally messes with their feelings a bit. Rampant lusty feelings. Harry has to figure out his gay issues (and boy does he take his sweet time with it...geesh) and they have to figure out how to go from enemies to cautious allies, to friends. Love takes a hell of a lot longer than just a few pages.

This book also does a good job of showcasing Draco's family issues. Mostly what the hell does he do when the man he is married to is the man his father, his father's cronies, and the Voldy Lord want dead? Also goes into a lot of the ideals that Draco believes in, and why he believes in them. And why it is so damn hard/unreasonable to expect him to wake up one day and just go...forget everything I've been ever taught for 17 years, I'll totally switch sides now!

This book ends at the end of the seventh year, and while it doesn't go into how this Harry plans to kill Voldemort, I'm glad it didn't attempt it either. I think it would have been a bit much for this story to handle. It was a good read, and I enjoyed the relationship that grew between Harry and Draco.

Oh, I liked this. I couldn't stop reading! It was funny, smutty, a bit angsty and sweet. And the mpreg tease was priceless.

There were plenty of good quotes, too. Only I forgot to highlight them. So this is the only one I can share:

""FUCK YOU!" Potter yelled at him.
"Believe me, I'd love to! Unfortunately I'm married to 'I'm Saving Myself Forever For God Only Knows What' and I swear if you tell me this isn't a marriage I will kill you, this is exactly what marriage is all about, NOT fucking the person you're supposed to fuck, and not being able to fuck anybody else either!"

This story was angsty, sweet, fun, sexy. Harry and Draco find themselves magically married, and must learn to live with each other, in EVERY way. It was fun, watching these two first fight not to be together, fight the need that is growing inside of them both for each other, and then finally, in the end, fight to stay together. LOVED this one.

This was very enjoyable and well written. It's really long (183k words!) and I easily read the whole thing. I'm not much of a Potter fan, but I enjoy the occasional fanfic and this one was great. Reading's been really up and down for me in 2021 and this just hit the spot. Thanks to my friend Teal for the rec! Their excellent review is here.

3.5 stars. It's hard to get out of the fanfiction mindset after all that hockey so I'm going through a lot of the stories on the Fanfiction Listopia list (thanks to all the contributors). In this one Harry and Malfoy are the victims of a Bonding curse and have to learn to live as a couple. I find it amazing how well the author re-created the Potterverse. It's written like one volume in the series with a scenario/conflict that's resolved in this book, but plenty of unanswered questions that make you want to read on. Disappointingly however, there is no next book in this storyline. The actors (Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Felton) are not exactly my idea of fantasy fodder so I had to actively try not to think about them while reading. lol. But despite that it was an amazingly detailed and interesting read.

This was my introduction to reading fanfics with book characters and also my first experience with Drarry. My opinion? A masterpiece.

I find it fascinating to read canon-based stories and see how authors twist them at will to make them work. Revisiting the wizarding world felt like coming home. Forced proximity is one of my favorite tropes, and I appreciate that the enemies to lovers arc was slow for them because I can't imagine it any other way. Even when they were already lovers, they still seemed more like enemies than anything else, which felt very fitting. It would be hard to picture Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter acting all lovey dovey... just no.

Overall, I have no complaints. It was a very engaging read (I spent three days glued to it nonstop). However, I was expecting a bit more drama, more violence, or just something more. I feel like the ending was too easy… they just went back to being bonded, and that was it. After all the buildup about how that could create a total mess, it ended up being wrapped up too neatly. It definitely could have had more depth.

That being said, I’m not really complaining. It was a great read.

Well this was certainly an interesting tale. There’s just something about a forced bond story that gets me every time. Thankfully this story is well written. I also felt that the author did a very good job keeping true to Draco and Harry’s personalities. They’re both so very themselves from scene one until the end. It can be somewhat frustrating to have characters go through what amounts to a personality transplant once they’re with their ‘mate’. Don’t get me wrong, both Harry and Draco do change, but it’s character growth and seeing/understanding from a different perspective. They might occasionally find themselves thinking “how very Gryffindor of me” or “this is why Slytherin would have been a good fit”. I’m paraphrasing, but you get the idea.

As you can expect from a year 7 story, there are plots, machinations, and dastardly deeds aplenty. I wouldn’t want it any other way. Also, Lucius Malfoy needs his parental license revoked. Just sayin…

Brilliant done! this story turn into something totally magnificent. I adore the writing, characters development, plots and etc. this is one of the best drarry fic i've come across in awhile. There's my favorite lines:

This is a pretty long Draco/Harry fanfic, so if you're not a fan of either of those... eh, just stop now.

Basically, Harry and Draco are cursed into a marriage bond. [Hogwarts Era.] It's part hilarious, part angsty, part hot, and a little depressing. A little too depressing at times, with a bunch of Voldemort and Snape stuff, which is my reason for the 4 stars. The plot and characters are super well thought out and it's actually really engrossing with a perfectly intense build up. It just took me a while to read because it was when I was moving into college for freshman year. That also might be one of the reasons it's not my favorite. But still really good. I'd print this out and put it under my bed if I had enough printer ink.

I truely enjoyed this story. The plot was great and the characters had to go through many ups and downs, keeping the story interessting. The characters were honest, emotional and funny. During the middle of the story I however got the feeling that the pace was a bit too slow, but as I absolutely wanted to know how everything will end, I kept on reading. All points considered, Bond is one of the best fanfictions online. 4 stars!

By the end, I enjoyed this LONGfic ★★★★-worth, but averaging with my discomfort for a fair length in the beginning, not knowing whether to really commit myself to reading it, unsure where it would go, I think it averages to a Goodreads 3★s for me, personally, based on my tastes, not its quality.

N.b., it was planned/written before the release of Half-Blood Prince, and despite being a seventh-year AU, the story concludes before any final confrontation between Harry and Voldemort. They mainly just hear bits about what the Death Eaters are doing in the Daily Prophet.

It's also available at AO3 (👍): https://archiveofourown.org/works/754...

I'm not really satisfied with the comment I left at the end there, because a bunch of words don't really feel like they're saying much, but its vagueness does mean it's not spoilery, and therefore I can just "recycle" it here:
I've had this Marked For Later for a while, because of its length, and because I'm always wary of Drarry fics (I have zero interest in reading hate sex, or about a protagonist with no redeeming features to root for, but just as unappealing is a beyond-my-suspension-of-disbelief sweet or woke and altruistic interpretation of Malfoy), but you built this so plausibly, deeply, and sympathetically, that once I decided to start it, I just. kept. reading.

Draco, for all his manipulative canniness and sophistication in certain spheres much greater than Harry's, is a perfect abused-and-pampered teenage muddle of mixed emotions, hormones, bad data, mixed loyalties, etc., and the changes of opinion he does and doesn't eventually make re. Harry, his father, Voldemort, Slytherin House, blood purity, and marriage make sense, and help make it possible to understand Harry "getting attached" despite their political-plus differences. I also appreciate that consent was always explicitly given, despite the difficult circumstances, whether you see that as actual ethics or purely self interest on newly-bonded Draco's part.

You came up with a number of twists I didn't see coming, and a few I did, but all of which held me gripped by this young pair's story, and full of feels.

Other aspects I applaud include how this story has a cast featuring a number of developed secondaries good, bad, clever, foolish, and in-between (from more than Gryffindor!), and how it acknowledges that the traumatic mess they're going through would make normal class attendance and attentiveness outright impossible, and catching up no picnic.

I know there were more things I wanted to mention, and my comment doesn't really feel like it's conveying how much I wound up enjoying this fic, so I may come back to say more, but for now have some extra kudos and reactions in emoji form (not exactly in order): 😲😬🤗😢🎯🤗😲😭😱😠🤗😈😄🔥🤗💗😊🤗👌👏👏👏👏👏👏

P.S., I don't know if there's anything you can do, but none of the illustrations are visible anymore.

Disclaimer: I do not like Slash, so my dislike of this book might be because of my own bias against this genre.

I didn't really enjoy this book. The story is just about Harry and Draco's forced boding, and not a whole lot more. It doesn't feel like a Harry Potter fanfiction. They don't interact with the rest of the world. I didn't even get what year they are! It is said that they are in their seventh year, but, how did the sixth year go? How much of canon is still relevant? Is Sirius dead in this world?

Their feelings are a bit forced, and the whole "I'm not even gay!" thing is swept under the rug like that is not a real issue at all and something only the muggles think about. (Granted, I'm a muggle and that might be why I have a problem with this (; .) And at the end
So I didn't like this fanfiction, and I can't recommend it. The only reason I didn't rate it lower was the fact that it wasn't terrible, and I have read a lot of terrible fanfictions. ( I don't review them here obviously)

I didn't really like this story. Going into it I really expected to like it because I love the bond fic trope. However with this one, I just didn't end up liking it, which suprised me because it's such a classic. I really likes the beginning, a lot and I was excited. The characterizations of harry and draco at the beginning was spot on. However as it progresses, I expected draco to actually start caring a lot more for harry and for them to fall in love (cuz I wanted the romance) and well it didn't happen like that. Yes they developed feelings but... Also I didn't finish this story. I lost interest once I realized it wasn't what I expected so I stopped halfway. But the thing that bugged me the most about it is [ the political aspect of voldemort VS harry. In canon, Draco knows at heart that joining voldemort is wrong and was forced to take the dark mark. In this story draco keeps justifying voldemort's actions which really didn't sit well with me. He knows that voldy will kill harry, but continues to side with voldy. At that point in the story he shouldn't be okay with harry being killed off. Draco really didn't treat harry well in that aspect. Harry deserves so much more. There was waaayyy too much of a political aspect of voldemort VS the light side. Voldy is a murderer and apparently politics come into place there? Like is the Wizarding world trying to pick a new president? Still don't know why the author chose to include that]
All in all, it just wasn't for me.

I wish I were good with reviews and writing down what’s in my mind in a coherent way, but alas I’m just a girl who loves Drarry.
This is a fic about an accidental marriage bond between our boys, that end up not being accidental at all but a plot to get Harry killed.
The villain in this story, surprisingly, was not Voldie. Though he was like a dark presence, always in the back of their minds. I liked the plot and how it was resolved as well.
What I liked the most was how the writer managed to make the marriage bond so balanced between hate and care. This is not a love story in the usual fashion, they really hated each other and the enemies to lovers aspect was incredible well done. Then the emergence of feelings masked with the bond, while they tried to overcome years of history and the unchangeable future where they would be on different sides of the war.
Kudos to the author and betas, good piece of art.

I came across this on Goodreads, and I knew immediately I had read it before. It’s hard to find really good, well written FanFiction, so I recycle through old favorites from time to time.
