A novella

After Lexa's comrade died saving her life, she retired from the special forces and retreated to a sanctuary in the mountains. A year later, war is brewing with the neighboring country, and Lexa discovers a threat even the army can't stand against--a dream assassin. As the only other dreamwalker in known existence, Lexa returns to the capital of Artasia and her old post to protect her country's leaders. But is the cocky, mysterious dreamwalker who seems to be stalking her the true mastermind? Or is something even more sinister threatening not just Artasia, but the dreamscape as well? As Lexa fights to protect those she loves, she discovers a power that can transcend worlds, and a destiny she never could have imagined.

Angela Wallace has been penning adventures ever since she was sucked through a magical portal as a child. What she saw and whom she met gave birth to exciting and complex fantasy worlds where defying the laws of physics was a bonus. She has since come back down to earth, only to discover this mortal realm has magic of its own. Now she is quite at home in the world of urban fantasy, though believes that love, faith, and hope are of a stronger magic than fire wielding and sorcery. She loves gun-toting good boys, and could have been a cop in another life except real blood makes her queasy. She’ll have to stick to solving supernatural mysteries. Language is her pleasure, whether it’s weaving words on a page or lassoing linguistics into translations as a sign language interpreter. Angela is currently working on the next book in her Elemental Magic series.

I've been away from this genre for a while but Angela Wallace's writing has called me back! We meet the heroine, Lexa, and are immediately intrigued with the choice she has made for her life. When a crisis looms, her loyalty to the cause and unique ability to be a dream walker call her back to battle a rogue assassin. Intrigue, deception, bloody battles and settings so vivid you feel you are in the middle of the action, are all part of the excitement of Wallace's writing. The story grabs you at the beginning and holds you in its thrall to the last page. Am I hoping for a sequel? You better believe it! (Warning: Watch out for the Nightmares ... !) Patricia Sands

Book blurb:
Diverging into a world where the dreamscape is a plane separate from reality and only a select few can access it, Dreamwalker tells the story of Lexa, an ex-soldier with just that ability. When she discovers another—a dream assassin—Lexa comes out of retirement to fight a war that will leave not only countries, but also realms beyond, hanging in the balance.

Magic, sword fights, and rogues in black await you within these pages. Lexa is a kickass heroine you’ll love to root for.

When I accepted an advanced copy of Dreamwalker, it was to make good on a 2011 reading resolution (yes, you read that correctly, I'm a bit behind) to move outside my comfort zone by exploring genres and discovering new-to-me authors.

I'm glad I finally followed through with that resolution with this novella because it was exciting, well-told, with a unexpected but satisfiying ending. In fact, I would have enjoyed reading much more about Lexa and her dreamwalking.

Dreamwalker was also the first book I read on my Kindle. And, now that I've read more books electronically, I'll say that I really appreciated the way this book was formatted. It was laid out the way I expect books to be done.

This is a good read with a strong female heroine. I'm looking forward to reading more of Angela Wallace's books.

Quietly astounding. I'm not exactly certain how else to describe this novel. There were no bells or whistles or flashy tricks to try to convince us that entering the "dreamscape" as Lexa does is possible. Instead, Ms. Wallace writes the story in a way that I went to bed every night wishing I could travel that realm, and the manner in which Ms. Wallace creates this world, I firmly believe I can. I don't want to give too much away, but for such a complex notion, the story unfolds in such a simplistic manner, it's easy to lose oneself. Lexa is a strong woman, but not over the top, with the mind of a soldier, and the heart and soul of a woman, creating the perfect balance. The supporting male characters are strong in their own right, but not overly macho. I've got pages of highlighted sections that I will read again. This story is brilliant. I'm a fan for life.

This is book is so far from what I normally read, but I really enjoyed it! The author does an amazing job of constructing a world that felt very real, and that is key for me when I read fantasy. I found myself wanting to be in the Dreamscape as well and held my breath during the action scenes which were fantastic! I will definitely read more from this author

I really enjoyed this book! The central concept of dreamwalking is fascinating. It's a nice mixture of fantasy, political intrigue and horror, with a hint of romance (explored more in the sequel). There's also a Christian allegory in the same vein as The Chronicles of Narnia, although I'd say it's intended for an older audience - YA or adult, though older children (maybe 10+) could enjoy it. It's not "preachy" in any way, and I think anyone could enjoy it, but for Christians that would certainly be an added bonus!

The main character, Lexa, is likeable and heroic but flawed enough that she feels relatable and "real". I also really liked the other dreamwalker but can't say too much without giving spoilers! The identity of the villain and motivations of some of the characters kept me guessing, which I liked. I quickly got into it and the plot kept me gripped throughout. Would definitely recommend!

NB: Dreamwalker was included as a bonus in the paperback version of the next book in the series, Dreamstealer, which is where I read it. As a standalone novella, it's available in ebook but not paperback.

Review:

I am going to approach this review a bit differently than others, with that said I want to say: If you haven't picked up a copy of Dreamwalker than you need to now! The cover is absolutely breath-taking and many who remember my previous reviews from when I was a admin on Paranormal Reads know that the cover is really the deal breaker for me. So once I saw the cover of course I had to find out more about this novella.

Angela Wallace has created a setting that you want to imagine yourself in, the dreamscape, she does so in a way where it is not overdone, she doesn't just give you only the good but also shows how the dreamscape could be a dangerous place filled with obstacles, creatures and even another that shares her gift? Yes, she creates a place that you can find yourself wanting to explore or dreaming about just to get an idea what it is that Lexa see's when she goes, now aside from Lexa, I absolutely loved Dirk's character, just his attitude had me smirking when he was around with Lexa.

Alas, until the end Lexa is a strong female that I think many would appreciate.

This was an amazing read, it really has you turning the pages and since it is a novella, when you come upon the last page you are really torn to know that it has ended as quickly as you started it. I look forward to any news of a series or another novella that will have Lexa as the main character once again and to also check out the other books by the very talented Angela Wallace.

I received this book to give an honest review.

This was a different kind of book than I was use to reading but I am glad I gave it a read. It deals with magic, and dream walking. Lexa lives in a sanctuary and can dream walk. Which means she goes to another world I want to say and she can walk around, she can also visit people. She is one of the very few people that can do this. On one of her trips she meets a dream assassin who is determine to do his job, but Lexa will not allow that to happen. She is a strong character within this story. Lexa seems to be destined for greatness. There is action, friendship, dark magic all at work within this story!
