I actually liked it. I thought it was interesting how each act and scene were broken down and explained, and compared with the comics.

It made me want to go back and watch the movies, which I have been doing. I also am planning on having my boyfriend read this, since we bonded over comics and X-men.

It might be because of my own close brush with the X-Men films (back in the very beginning when the project was at Orion, after they had given up on the Conway/Thomas script -- too expensive -- and wanted something more modest) but this look at the first three X-Men films is rather thin gruel, although it does try to present the third film as something more than most perceive it as. X-Men Origins: Wolverine meanwhile gets glossed right over. Also adding to the fun of this book -- a distinct lack of proofreading, which results in some very jarring errors in the text.

This is a very straightforward book, which looks at the original X-Men film trilogy and how those movies relate to their comic inspirations. The problem is that the book is so very dry....there's no real personality in the writing, and it becomes simply a recitation of facts and issue numbers. If you know the comics, there's not going to be very much that's new here.
