Return to Caer Lon starts off with two incredibly difficult characters named Derek and Sacha, who both would swear to every god ever thought up that they want nothing to do with the other. But we know from the very beginning that they are both just kidding themselves. You know the two are going to end up together. This is not a bad thing, and in fact it makes a lot of what does happen interesting. In fact, the novel gave me a bit of nostalgia as the relationship between Derek and Sacha sort of reminded me of The Swan Princess and the relationship between Odette and yet another prince named Derek. The song "This is my idea" comes to mind.

So we know they're going to end up together. And what better way to temper the sword of friendship than to go on an epic quest, right? This is not some random quest though. Derek is the son of William Pendragon and it is basically his fate to reclaim the legacy of his bloodline. Let me back up a second.

When Derek was five years old, Camelot was taken by an evil sorcerer named Wolfryth and he and his mother were able to flee with the help of an awesome dude named Hector. The deposed Queen and her son then lived with the Duke of Pemfro, his children and his nephew and well, his household. So Derek grows up with his one life's quest being to reclaim Camelot and rend Wolfryth completely useless.

So anyway back to the epic quest. Sacha is a seer and has many magicks, but mostly she gets a great deal of visions. She finds her cousin broken and beaten while riding one day. Knowing her brother and a whole lot of other guys were with him, she wonders what could have happened to them. Her father refuses to begin battle to save his son but Sacha is headstrong and like I said earlier, difficult. So what does she do? She decides to go search for her brother, only she knows she cannot travel alone. Anyway, she manages to convince Derek to go with her on her quest to save Elwyn, her twin brother.

I won't give too much away, but their quest leads them into a lot of trouble and through adversity, bonds are formed or mended and they eventually, very very slowly, sort of kind of, in a way admit that the other isn't so incredibly awful. Normally this plot is very basic. It goes from "Rawr, you suck" to "AMG I LUV U," but Return to Caer Lon deals with this relationship very responsibly and realistically and you can actually see the very gradual growth of their bond. There is no automatic realization here, or anything bogus like that. Through their trials and quest they are finally able to appeciate each other, and they never give up who they are. Nobody goes through a gigantic change of character here.

My favorite parts though, were probably the secondary characters. It's probably just me, because I often find myself liking secondary characters a lot. I especially liked Lady Sonia's character and there was a great deal of situational irony going on there. I think the biggest "TEEHEE" moment in the novel was when Derek refused the lady Sonia's favor. I had a big stupid grin on my face when I read that.

The novel could benefit with one more proofread, sometimes there is a minor word missing or a word is in the wrong tense. But none of the issues that DO exist are difficult, all can be easily looked over. I was never confused about any of the sentences, never had to search for meaning and when a word was in the wrong tense, it did not make me stumble. It is all negligible, though it can be improved.

The battle with Wolfryth was a bit fast but I am actually really okay with how it happened. I feel like it was the perfect length. I did not feel that the novel was really about Wolfryth so much as it was about Derek and Sacha growing into better people and Derek finding the strength to reclaim his birthright.

Overall I am going to give this novel 4 stars. It was a good read overall and it's definitely worth looking at.

I know that I may have mentioned that I am a sucker for any books that use any aspect of Mythology. Add magic, Camelot, references to King Author’s Court, Knights, Queens, Princes and Princesses into the mix and I’m totally engrossed. Return to Caer Lon had all that and more.

The world that Claude Cancourt created in Return to Caer Lon was full of action, mystery and magic. The characters had depth and the interaction between them was perfect. I loved the bickering, teasing and tension between Derek and Sacha. It was as fun as it was intense. They lived to drive each other crazy, but they also had a huge amount of admiration and respect for each other. The same was true with Sacha’s twin brother Elwyn and their friend Sebastian. The loyalty that they all showed toward each other, the rest of their families and their kingdom remained constant. The romance between Sacha and Derek was inevitable, but it was fun watching them fight it every step of the way. ;)

The final battle was swift but intense and Wolfryth and his daughter proved to be everything evil characters should be.

This was the first book of Claude Danecourt’s that I’ve read and I’m looking forward to more. Her style and dialogue both flowed well and it was a very easy book to read and I enjoyed getting lost in the world of Knights, Kings and Queens for a little while once again.

This is the first book I've read by Claude Dancourt, and I really enjoyed it!

The storyline was intriguing. I was drawn in at the very beginning and didn't want to put it down until the end. The dialogue is well written with a smooth flow. While the story centers around Derek and Sacha's quest to save her brother, there are other point of veiws given through-out the book. The characters are all well thought out and believable; they each have a distinctive personality that made them more realistic. I liked the relationship between Derek and Sacha. It was interesting to see their relationship grow and develope as the book progressed.

I felt that the final battle between Derek and his enemy, Wolfryth, did end rather abruptly. With so much build up leading to this last fight, I was a bit disappointed by how quickly it was finished. That being said, everything else was fantastic.

Return to Caer Lon is a great read that I'd recommend to anyone looking for adventure, romance and a battle between good versus evil. It's well worth it!

Claude Dancourt is certainly a writer I hope to read more of. :)

What happen in the book is to bring love and romance to-the ones who deserve it the most. The war is on ad then the king came in and then told his wife that the kingdom is being over taken he had a young son who will one day become king and then take the
kingdom over again. the queen and then son had to run and then the guards have to make sure they got the queen and the future king to safety The story unfolds and the the son grow up and the his cousin and him are getting ready to help the kingdom as much
as possible. Well here come a girl ad then she had twin who come up missing and then the two of them go off and try to find he twin in the middle of the night with little money or food. They found them self in some predicaments and then they find out what going to happen to there kingdom and the they had ideas to get the kingdom back and then help the twin. The couple take a turn and then the story is great and you will love to read it and then find out what happen to them and will it become another book.

Return to Caer Lon isn't a book I'd normally pick up on my own. With that being said, I found the story intriguing. The relationship between Sacha and Derek was tense - as a reader I wanted to shout at them to get it on already! But Claude Dancourt did a great job of building up just enough tension between the two characters so when they finally acted on the chemistry I knew was there, it was electric. Additionally, I enjoyed the story of Derek's tie to Excalibur and Arthur. The sword in the stone was well crafted. I've always been interested in stories of King Arthur and I loved that this novel only hinted at what was to come. I am hoping for a sequel, I'd love follow the characters Dancourt created.
