Ziggy absorbs technical information with the lightest touch of her hand. What will she learn when full contact with a shifter is on the menu?Signy Alora, 'Ziggy', was shocked when she was abducted by the Tokkel from her home on the human colony world of Gaia. She was appalled when experimentation was scheduled for her day, and relieved when someone attacked the ship of the invaders. Ziggy used her talent to absorb the information she needed to escape and in the process she managed to help a batch of aliens who had also been slated for torture at the hands of the troll-like Tokkel. She takes knowledge of his language, his ability to fly a starship, and a kiss that renders him senseless.Five years later, Ziggy thought that she had made a clean getaway and hidden her involvement in the first crash of the invading ship, but when miliatary men collect her for the anniversary of the initial attack she realizes that her time of hiding what she did was at an end. Ziggy had no idea that someone had been looking for her. The moment she spots the shifter that she kissed all those years ago, her time of hiding what she is is over and he couldn't be happier.
I just started reading Viola Grace and it will take a while to catch up as she is a prolific writer. She writes short stories, usually less than 200 pages. Like most successful short story writers, she doesn't have the space to fool around with what I call "push me pull you" scenes. She is an expert at putting together her plot and her characters and sending the couples down the road to battle problems together.
The books are fun and full of love, adventure and some fairly steamy love scenes. I don't recall any Swooning Suzies or Helpless Hannas as lead characters and the guys are supportive and protective and not boring like I'm making them sound!
I hate to write spoilers but love to tell other readers to "TRY THIS AUTHOR" .... You'll love her.
Knowing is the first book in the Return of the Nine series. The basic premise is that a human colony on the planet Gaia is (a) developing physic and physical talents from the planet (b) a ship with the original inhabitants of Gaia rescues them from attacking Tokkels and (c) turn out to be Earth's mythical creatures of old.
Signy Alora (Ziggy) and she absorbs technical information by touch. The Tokkels abducted humans from Gaia to experiment on and also had some beings from The Nine being held prisoner. Ziggy absorbs the Tokkels language - reads signs - rescues the prisoners and pulls a "Clark Kent". BUT - Shifters are good at snaring their prey, even if it takes 5 years.
So far - each of Viola Grace's books have me wanting to do a happy dance at the end.
Ziggy is a third generation colonist who has developed some psychic abilities. They come in handy when her planet is attacked and she is captured. What she doesn't know is that she has met her destiny during the escape she hid from public eyes.
This short story in this older series by the author was fun. The plot was tight and exciting, and these two characters had chemistry. The hero of this one engaged in some coercion of the heroine by engaging in his culture’s affiancing ritual without the heroine’s knowledge that that was happening, which my 2021 eyes thought was a little odd, but which would have been unremarkable in 2012 when this was written. A fun short sci-fi romance with some steam, which I appreciated.
I have read all 9 books and I loved it, however I wish the author had gone into more depth about the world's. Just like I wish the books had been longer and told more about what was going on. It saddens me that I was able to read all 9 books in 2 days.
I love the action in the beginning of the story. I can just picture our heroine doing all the staff she needed to be free from captured, not to mention her actions after the kidnapped were just beyond ordinary and makes her more cooler to me. How she acted like nothing happened after what she had done like it was no big deal and even after she was found out she was very much cool with everything. She wasn't that scared and I like that about her.
She was calm and collected. How she handled everything in one go was admirable and had really enjoyed it and wished it was longer but even so I love this wonderful quick read.
I find Viola Grace is good for a quick read that puts a smile on my face. The only downside is the dress code, dresses. Not what I would wear in a futuristic world :)
