K.C. King's love affair with books began with Charlotte's Web when she was eight. A true Aquarian, she's a dreamer whose John Grisham obsession resulted in her choice to study linguistics and law. When she's not writing, travelling, or enjoying cappuccinos in kangaroo cups, you'll probably find her in her own world: Somewhere between Metropolis and Austen's 19th Century England.
This book had a lot of promise. I liked the idea of the oraecle and I enjoyed the beginning of the book. However, it took a sharp turn into the land of books we do not speak off around chapter 5. To start of, the whole world was confusing. Nothing was ever explained and all anyone talked about was "the Way" and "the creators." By the tenth time of hearing about this all powerful "Way" I started saying "Screw the Way and make your own damn decisions!" I feel like K.C King had no idea how to explain why these people or, sorry this "kind" did absolutely nothing throughout the whole book that she just decided to create "The Way."
Paige's visions are pretty cool and the way she is able to prevent them a lot of times. The one thing I don't understand is how being branded means she has to share her visions with Aevus? And then he sorts through them and sends them to some random people? Okay then. These visions are obviously terrible and cause Paige to go into a fit of delirium and get extremely weak. Honestly if I were her, I'd just refuse to share her visions. She has no loyalty to the king and she's the freaking oraecle, no one can hurt her, so why not just refuse?!
Not only was this world confusing, the people were as well. It just seemed like a random soap opera the whole time. Zaera was engaged to Aevus (the king) but then had to break it off cause his father tried to rape her and now she is engaged to Xaevier (the future king even though there's already a king) as some sort of twisted punishment. I don't get why she has to be engaged to Xaevier when she obviously likes Aevus! And why isn't Aevus doing anything about it? He's the freaking King!! Oh wait, let me guess, "They Way" forbids it! Big surprise! Then there's the whole thing with Xaevier's dad and Paige's mom, Nova. Idek what that relationship is. Oh and let's not forget Sethos (the Healven King) and his useless role in this book. I mean seriously, this dude never shows up and yet everyone just talks about him like he's a terrible person. I bet you he's Paige's father or plays some other role in Paige's life that has to do with Nova. If not, I really don't see the point of having him in the story. Okay, let's talk about the Nathan/ Paige/ Xaevier. In the beginning, I thought Paige and Nathan were adorable together. I mean Paige was popular and Nathan was a genius nerd, therefore they seemed perfect. Turns out he's a Healven (oh no!) who pretty much ditches her because she is branded by the Ealven King. (I still don't understand what the big deal is about this whole branded thing.) but don't worry because Nathan shows up again at the end with his awesome motorcycle, because why not, and attempts to rescue Paige from the evil Ealven's, who claim that the Healven's are evil, but we never figure out which of them is actually evil. Yet another thing I honestly don't understand. Why do they hate each other? The Ealven's created them so it's their fault. And the Healven's are half-human so it's not like they pose a threat. I guess we just needed some epic battle between two groups to make this story seem purposeful. Honestly, I think I would have preferred a story with just Paige in high school with Nathan. The first three chapters were more exciting then the rest of the book tbh.
And then there's Xaevier... First, let me just say that I had no idea he was even a love interest until the random make out session him and Paige had. It was just so abrupt and it felt like K.C King was forcing it to happen just so There would be a love triangle. Overall, it was just terrible. I don't see how he could randomly like Paige all of the sudden after knowing her for like a day. I'm sure Paige is pretty and all and she's somewhat humorous, giving the situation, but Xaevier is portrayed as some badass Ealven who doesn't care about anything. It just seems kind of strange that he would have the hots for someone like Paige when he barely knows her. Maybe if things went a bit slower and they were just good friends things would be less weird for me. I'm just not feeling this whole Xaevier + Paige thing. Oh and what the hell is his power?! Teleportation/ being able to start a motorcycle without a key/ time traveler? I thought this line was weak or something? How come they all have pretty great powers?
In the end Paige runs off with Nathan (with Xaevier's help) after an "epic" fight with Xaevier's dad, whom I'm pretty sure has the power of persuasion. Oh wait, I just realized something; Aevus is Xaevier's uncle. This whole time I thought they were brothers. Wait but then does that make Aevus like 40? Is Zaera old too? Oh god is Xaevier engaged to someone way older than him? Or are they all immortal? At this point I would not be surprised. This whole book is so confusing.
I give it a 2/5 stars because I am still extremely confused and I think the love triangle is dumb.

This is one of the most confusing books I've ever read, and yet I liked it for the most part? I had no clue what was going on for the majority of the book. It seemed to skip parts and the book on a whole was very short, there was a romance that seemed to spring up out of nowhere. Literally.
I'm really disappointed, because I loved the plot and the characters. It just seemed to skip a middle part, which left me confused and left the book short.
However, I am going to persevere and read the prequel because I need to know what is going on!
I enjoyed this book but I was confused during the majority of it. Oraecle has many secrets and mysteries that the main character Paige has to work out. Unfortunately they were not answered at the end. Which is the bad guy Haelven or Alvaen? or did they both misunderstand what took place all those years ago? I guess we will find out in the next book...
Ok. This could have been such a good book. I loved the idea, at least I thought I did. And that was the problem. I was completely lost the entire way through. I knew two groups didin't like eachother and that she was special. Boom, that's all I could figure out.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the plot, even the characters. I don't like not getting the answers we want, but hey, here comes the sequel wooo. You rock, K.C, Stroppy oxo
