A nice book for beginners. But do not expect to understand everything if you are not a chemist and/or a biologist who has done some prior reading on genetics. For the layman like me it will help understand the very basics of genetics, most importantly it helps (including genetic diseases) one understand how traits are carried forward and why certain diseases occur only in one gender. If one has not read anything about chromosomes and DNAs then do not read the book one fail to understand anything.
I tried reading this book in 2016 . But left it after reading 70 odd pages due to its highly technical content. The authors have used many technical terms and system in starting chapters without property explaining them. This results in to a great amount of confusion for a non - biology readers, when they reach mid chapters ...... Hence at that time I decided to leave this book
But recently in 2019 while reading the book SAPIENS, again I felt I need to understand genetics properly. So I read " Gene - A very Short Introduction" . After reading that book I again picked up this book. And this time I found this book excellent
Information concept inside a cell.
This book made the basics of Gene and it's possibilities very clear.
This book was written in 2002 so there is no mention of CRISPR in it.
But it's explains "how and why" of recent advancement of this field very well.
