Also publishes as Stephen Cole.

Steve Cole is the slightly crazy, highly frantic, millions-selling, non-stop author of Astrosaurs, Cows In Action, Astrosaurs Academy, The Slime Squad, Z. Rex and many other books (including several original Doctor Who stories).

He used to edit magazines and books but prefers the job of a writer where you can wear pyjamas and eat chocolate all day.

Steve just can't stop writing - if he does, strange robots appear and jostle him vigorously until he starts again.

In his spare time he loves making music, reading old comics, thinking up ideas for new books and slumping in front of a warm TV.

Aw...this is the third book in this series but it's the first one I've read ....and the only one the boys had on their shelves.

I don't really think it mattered too much that we hadn't read the other 2 books because there was a nice little recap before the story proper starts.
The files introduce the agencies and the main characters to us, which was great.

The cows/bulls being agents mean that this is packed with action and adventure.
The time machine really appealed to us and took the cows back (in this book) to Roman times - so apart from the fun storyline, we also see lots of historical info woven through too.
This prompted a lot of questions and some searching for more in depth answers too.

I loved the addition of the simple sketches dotted throughout the story which brought some of the images to life a bit more - and broke up all the words.
Great for reading aloud to younger ones, but otherwise this would be more suited to the older, more confident reader.
The story is broken down into fairly short chapters though, which made this easy to read over a few days, putting this down after a chapter or two and knowing exactly where you were coming back to the next day.

We loved all the cow jokes and puns - these had us laughing out loud throughout.

A great read and we can't wait to see more in the series soon.

In the future cows become intelligent, discover how to time travel and get involved in an ancient Roman mystery.

This book is definitely aimed at youngish children. I found it reasonable, but suspect the target audience will appreciate much more than I did.
