Convicted is the first book in a series of stories inspired by the parables of Jesus. The Impact Series focuses on the impact each of us has on the people we interact with every day. As Christians the light of Christ shines through us, often despite our best efforts to snuff it out. If we learn to trust the Holy Spirit and listen to His promptings, we can and will have a positive impact for Christ.
Join our hero, Declan Elliot, as he struggles to survive the brutalities of America in 2025. On the way home from work one evening, Declan's life changes forever. The night's events thrust him headlong into a perilous journey fraught with murder, catastrophic weather and out of control crime. In this 21st century retelling of the classic parable of the Good Samaritan, Declan battles to overcome rejection, betrayal and a high powered politician who will stop at nothing to see him dead.
With his faith tested and his spirit under attack, how will our hero respond?
I've read the About Me page of plenty of other fiction authors and I've noted the common thread. They were born with pen in hand and literary prowess oozing from their pores. They knew from the beginning that writing fiction was what they were meant to do and began honing their craft seemingly the moment they were born. Their daydreams were full of book plots and their characters lived at the forefront of their imaginations, begging to be put on paper.
I don't quite fit that mold. The son of an accountant and an information systems professor, creative writing isn't exactly a family pedigree. Following my parents' example, I got my bachelor’s degree in business administration and immediately went to work as a computer programmer at a now defunct retail company. Since then, I’ve enjoyed a successful career as an information technology consultant and had the pleasure of working with hundreds of wonderful people along the way. God’s blessings have been undeniable in both my professional and personal lives.
But something was missing, and I knew it. My wife and I began praying for God to use us for His purposes rather than being content with our own path. We learned quickly that you should be careful what you pray for, because you might just get it. I will never forget that morning in the shower, eyes still drooping shut as I washed my hair, when God planted His will in my spirit. He wanted me to write books. Fiction books. Books with creative plots and interesting characters.
Really? Me? Surely He had chosen the wrong person. As the rest of the week progressed, the Holy Spirit made it clear He was serious about the assignment. I asked for direction, and God provided. I had so much to learn. However, learning about writing was the easy part of my undertaking. Learning to trust God was the more difficult matter. I didn’t have the skillset to produce a readable book. I was scared and completely out of my element. That is exactly how God wanted it. It was His intent all along for me to have to rely on Him. As with everything else in life, relying on Him is the only way we can truly be on target with our undertaking. It required me to swallow some of my self-sufficient pride and actually listen to God for a change.
So here I am, writing my About Me page, utterly amazed at God’s grace and patience as he guides me forward. What I have learned so far is amazing. I look forward to the rest of the journey under His tutelage. I pray these stories not only entertain, but also deliver God’s intended message. Enjoy!
If I could give this book a higher then 5/5 star rating I would! Beware that once you start reading you will not want to put this book down! There is adventure from page one till the end. It is well written with easy flowing dialogue.
The story follows Declan Elliot as he finds himself in danger after an unfortunate incident. Another main character, Valerie Dalton, plays an important part in this exciting adventure. The relationship between these two characters is believable and helps make the story. From one page to the next you will follow the main characters as they strive to make sense of what is happening around them.
Although the setting of the story is in the future, you could really see this story taking place in any time period. I liked how the author used the setting to help his story move quickly. I could find nothing negative to say about this book. It is action packed from the first page till the last and ends exactly as it should. I especially liked how the author blended this adventure with Biblical themes. It is a great book and I look forward to reading every book this author writes!
I would like to thank the author for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
God works in mysterious ways… And this book is a perfect example of that. Declan Elliot was miserable in his life and at his job, and then things get worse…much, much worse. And when he thinks he has some help, he doesn’t. And those who he dislikes turn out to be the ones he needs the most. I can’t help but think after reading this story (and trying not to give away too much here!) Is despite all the trials and tribulations Declan had to face, was it somehow not making his life better, even though he didn’t realize it at the time? And so often this happens to us in our daily lives, with God taking us in directions we don’t understand, only to find that in the end it really does take our lives in a better path as long as we have faith in Him. I appreciated how Declan never gave up his faith even when he was tested, but naturally he wondered why it was all happening which is what made him so relatable. I enjoyed reading this book and told my sister she has to read it now.
I really enjoyed this thriller of a book. Tim Hughes did a great job in creating a captivating and intriguing plot. I liked the main character, Declan Elliot and the faith and courage he showed when facing what seemed to be insurmountable odds. His situation managed to go from bad to worse after being set up to look like he committed the murder of the Mayor's son.
I enjoyed the twists and turns as the story line masterfully unfolded in many unexpected ways, especially the ending. "Convicted" proves that we don't always know who our true friends are...or who can be trusted or not. Tim Hughes does a great job of weaving some of his own faith in God into his story line without over doing it. What a wonderful personal touch! The only real drawback to this nonfiction novel, is the number of typos. Fortunately, I notice that there is a corrected version now available. Kudos to the Author for taking the time and making the necessary effort to perfect his work of art. I look forward to reading more books by Tim Hughes!
When God is for you who can be against you. Declan life went from worse to worst, and even though he could see no way out he prayed! Prayer changes things! Against all odds The Lord will still see us through! Good book to read.
Plot was interesting enough, but multiple typos killed it for me. For instance, a character named “Brian” assumed the moniker “Brain” twice.
The storyline ended abruptly—I’m assuming so as to entice the reader into subsequent releases, but some of the character development felt unnatural and forced. Two major characters disappeared from the plot without any attempt to resolve their arc or explain why they were included in the book at all.
