Mê bộ phim hoạt hình về Peter Pan sản xuất năm 1953 của Walt Disney, Régis Loisel đã luôn muốn thực hiện một tác phẩm với thế giới quan của riêng mình, khác hẳn với những bộ phim Mỹ đã thực hiện. Ông đã sáng tạo lại Peter Pan của James Matthew Barrie bằng cách bắt đầu câu chuyện trước câu chuyện của tác giả người Anh (và kết thúc nó đúng khi tác phẩm Peter Pan của J.M.Barrie bắt đầu).

Đó chính là một tiền Peter Pan, ở đó chúng ta khám phá ra một thành Luân Đôn thời Victoria được lấy làm khung cảnh cho các nhân vật của ông, trong đó có vườn Kensington, nơi có thằng-nhóc-không-chịu-lớn trứ danh cư trú. Rất lâu trước khi nàng tiên Chuông (tức Tinker Bell, trong tác phẩm nguyên bản của J.M.Barrie) xuất hiện, ồng đã vẽ ra một cách kỳ tài một chú chàng Peter Pan khác thường, kẻ lao mình vào một cuộc chiến không khoan nhượng với gã thuyền trưởng Móc gớm ghiếc (tức Hook, trong tác phẩm của J.M.Barie) từ Luân Đôn cho đến những hòn đảo tưởng tượng của chú.

Đối với những người đã thuộc làu tác phẩm gốc, hàng loạt những bất ngờ vẫn còn chờ đợi, với một kết thúc choáng ngợp, trong những sắc thái tăm tối, ảm đạm và đôi khi độc ác có sẵn từ J.M.Barrie. Tất cả những kỳ diệu của “Peter Pan” được cô đọng trong sáu tập album Peter Pan bất hủ, đưa Loisel lên vị trí của một bậc thầy. Régis Loisel is a cartoonist living in Montreal, Canada. Since the 1970s Loisel has become one of the most decorated French comic artists, especially in the fantasy genre. Loisel has won several awards at the Angoulême International Comics Festival, including the lauded Grand Prix in 2002.

Esta série tornou-se uma desilusão para mim... Qual foi a ideia de sermos induzidos a pensar que o capitão Gancho era pai de Peter, para depois ser "descartada" devido à cor do cabelo de ambos (o porata tem cabelos pretos, a eterna criança tem cabelos ruivos)... Para quê introduzir a história de Jack o Estripador para não haver consequências nenhumas? A presença de Peter Pan em Londres ocasionava as mortes das prostitutas? Demasiado rebuscado e complicado de entender... Este útlimo volume não me encantou absolutamente nada. Gosto de ler versões de outras histórias que, por vezes, são mostradas de forma mais delicodoce. Nesta versão da história de Peter Pan há mortes, há sangue, há nudez (por que razão vemos tanta vez a Sininho de rabo voltado para nós permanecerá um mistério para mim... ou não)... Enfim, abordar de uma forma mais histórias inicialmente criadas para o público infantil é bom! Mas esta torna-se desnecessariamente confusa, talbez porque o autor a prolongou demais. Enfim, penso que gostei mais dos primeiros volumes do que dos últimos...
No geral, não fiquei com vontade de reler isto tido no futuro...
Armazém Central é uma série bem mais interessante e que, na minha opinião, vale bem mais a pena ler, para quem quiser conhecer o estilo de Loisel.

Are the Ripper and the Lost boy both Freudian aspects of Peter Pan left behind in London? I’m left with a feeling of disgust and horror after reading these but also a feeling of sadness over a childhood lost.

Loisel’s prequel to Peter Pan brings a tangibly Freudian flavor to Peter Pan, one where tragedy and abandonment lead to sexual immaturity and callous violence.

I’m not sure the progressive leftist feminist in me appreciate neither the egregious racist stereotypes nor the female desperately sexualized characters. But despite those reservations, this is a preferred complete opposite to Disney and shines a new light on Peter Pan is very much an origin myth, encompassing madness, fever, and with distinct undertones of Lord of the Flies - the archetype of Barrie’s Peter was very much one cast in fires of trauma.’

Cette bande dessinée conclut bien toute l’histoire. Je n’ai jamais été fan de Peter Pan, que j’ai toujours trouvé sombre. Et cette bande dessinée reflète bien cela. Mêlée à l’histoire de Jack L’Eventreur, on découvre un prequel du Peter Pan de Disney. Un destin sombre dans un Londres sordide, un destin embûché par des adultes violents, sexualisant un Peter alors enfant qui grandit avec une mère alcoolique. On comprend et compatit alors avec ce Peter chargé de haine, une haine et une colère justifiées par son passé et qui mène au personnage un brin méchant et sans cœur que nous connaissons — qui se veut chef, adulte un peu, sans jamais en être un et en agissant toujours comme un enfant, même pour de lourdes décisions.

Currently available on the Internet Archive, this is the sixth and last volume of a Peter Pan adaptation. Blimey! This volume is extremely dark and disturbing. The story threads concerning Jack the Ripper and Hook’s paternity of Peter effectively vanish under a meditation on forgetfulness and madness. Loisel certainly gets the truly murderous natures of Tinker Bell and of the mermaids, and riffs on the darkness that is present in Barrie’s original tale. It appears that Loisel didn’t know how to end his retelling, so he goes for cruelty and despair, fully subverting the Disneyfication of fairy tales. The comments on volume one apply here too.

J’ai beaucoup aimé cette suite de BD mais alors c’est quoi cette fin ??!! Je veux pas croire que ça finisse comme ça, vraiment j’ai trouvé ça un peu facile... Y’avait pleins de questions auxquelles j’attendais les réponses et au lieu de ça on nous propose cette fin qui certes les résout mais qui donne aucune explication... Un peu déçue je l’avoue...

Une version tout à fait différente de celle de Disney. Beaucoup, beaucoup plus sombre et violente! Un Peter pas très sympathique, un monde de misère et de méchanceté. J’ai quand même aimé découvrir cette aventure. Les dessins de Régis Loisel sont formidables. Pour lecteur averti seulement!

Question: c'est la première fois que je lis qqch en rapport avec Peter Pan, du coup c'est peut-être ça qui induit mon ignorance, mais pour ils perdent tous la mémoire sur l'ile ?

Những ai từng đọc nguyên tác của J.M. Barrie chắc sẽ sốc khi đọc bộ tiền truyện này của Loisel. Mình chưa nên mình không sốc :)) giỡn thôi, mình cũng từng coi phim hoạt hình Peter Pan của Disney làm rồi, chắc cũng đủ để thấy bộ này của Loisel hắc ám. Hắc ám dzậy thôi chớ mình cũng không sốc hay kinh hãi, bàng hoàng gì, chắc tại đã từng đọc nhiều thứ kinh tởm hơn >_< Bộ này tuyệt nhiên không dành cho trẻ con rồi. Đọc xong năm tập đầu thấy khốn nạn thay cho thằng bé Peter. Đến tập cuối thì thấy Peter là thằng đại dại gái bị con Tinker Bell chúa ghen xỏ mũi. Rồi không biết diễn tiến như dzậy có phù hợp với nguyên tác của JMB không. Thôi kệ, mình cũng không có ý định đọc Peter Pan. Bộ này để dành lại cho những người say mê Peter Pan hơn mình.

Một số bài học rút ra được sau khi đọc xong bộ này là:
1/ chớ có đụng vào những nhỏ có máu Hoạn Thư, còn ghen thì ai chả biết, nhỉ?
2/ phải tập giữ lấy những kỉ niệm, hồi ức, đừng để nó trôi đi mất, quá khứ có những thứ không đáng nhớ, và có những cái không nên nhớ nhưng vẫn phải nhớ vì có như vậy mới xứng đáng với những người bạn, người thân đã khuất.
3/ đừng có dại gái, đặc biệt là với những cô nàng có phép thần hay của thế giới thần tiên.

Đúng là Số Phận mà - cảm giác quyển truyện có gì đó rất 'ác', cảm giác lợm trong người, truyện này đúng là không dành cho trẻ con mà. Chưa đọc nguyên tác, chắc phải lôi nguyên tác ra đọc mới được vì dù sao series này là sự phóng tác của Resgis về chuyện xảy ra trước khi có câu chuyện Peter Pan. Tội cho thằng bé Pichou và tập 1,2 thấy thương cho Peter Pan bao nhiêu thì tập này ghét nó với con Nhỏ Bell bấy nhiêu.
Tóm lại bộ này làm mình sụp đổ hết ấn tượng với bộ phim Walt Disney nhưng nó đáng để mua, vì dù sao sự thật thường trần trụi.
Đáng lẽ cho 5*, nhưng -1* vì làm mình lợm.
