I'd forgotten how much of a hybrid RPG/Wargame the first edition was. And how much of the fluff in this 30yr old rulebook has influenced not only Warhammer 40k but gaming/popculture in general.
Welcome to gaming 101. If you played D&D back in the 80s, but wanted to dabble in something a little more challenging , then this is where you ended up.
A good mix of RPG & tabletop war-gaming. The rules were flexible enough to allow the end users to adapt them. And the stories (fluff) were fantastic.
This book is a rarity nowadays. If you see a copy, pay the asking price.
Fantastic, this book drips with rich themes and lore. Amazing how much of the modern day 40k was already present in this 1st edition, and also how much has been retconned. Some real cheesy old school role play sections and some amazing enticing concepts.
1st Edition, I own this book, but I never played this edition. Compared to the most recent incarnation this is a backward and archaic version, completely unrecognizable to most players. Fun to look at but that is about it.
