I bought this book in 2013, I wanted to learn the basics of astrology since it was gaining momentum at the time, and it was listed as the most popular book back then. I remember I started reading it and then got bored. I’m not a huge believer in astrology, but I enjoy understanding where descriptions of the signs in someone’s chart match or don’t match their personality, especially mine. So this book kinda covers those basics - it explains sun signs, ascendants, houses and moon signs and what these mean, all in a very simple manner and with easy examples.
I wish it would have started with how you can find your chart though (I know there are tons of sites out there, but not everyone knows that and sometimes these are inaccurate), maybe a little history of how astrology came to be and/or how it has changed over time, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t cover everything, and the order seemed kind of all over the place to me, at least the Kindle edition needed some… actual editing (there are spelling mistakes and grammar errors, not very confusing, but it felt sloppy). The cartoons were unnecessary.
Still, it’s a nice basic guide you can go to when you have doubts about the meaning of signs in certain positions. It’s alright, but a little boring to me.

It is a very simple book. I liked the style. Straight forward, down to earth and with some cartoons to help memorize the sun signs characteristics.
The book is divided in the following chapters:
1. how the sun travels through the houses
2. the planets and what they stand for
3. the elements and the signs corresponding to those elements grouping them three by three so the common characteristics come out and how the same element in different signs shows a slightly different energy
4. the difference between cardinal, fixed and mutable signs
5. the sun signs depicting their characteristics and something I quite appreciated, is how one can use the energy of that sign during the month of its reign to his/her advantage
6. the moon signs
Pity there was not the description of the rising sign which is very important in astrology and how it affects the sun sign. There is no mention of planet transits or retrograde or all the astrological stuff that I have not the knowledge to mention but know it exists.
So yes this book is simple and easy to understand but what you will read is very very basic idea of astrology. Pity the author did not cover all the other areas with her effective straight forward method. That would have been a real book on astrology made simply and easy.

Not only is this book full of generalizations it is heterocentric bordering on homophobic. The line that offended me most was: "Libra demands a heterosexual relationship, because this energy must be in balance." is this author really arguing that a. Homosexual libras don't exist or b. that if they do they must all be miserable? This statement is offensive and ridiculous. I will never read another book by this author.

Quick and to the point...

This book was insightful without being overwhelming. There is a great deal to learn about astrology but this book really made it easy to understand. It provides you with a good basis on astrology so that if you wish to delve deeper into the topic with other research you won't be lost.
