Amazon Categories Create Best Sellers

Rate this book
This eBook is the most comprehensive help you'll find in using the simple techniques offered through Amazon's category choices, leading to your book becoming a category bestseller. And the book is so much more. It includes background Amazon strategies and controversy affecting authors while attempting to understand and utilize it on many levels. All through the eyes of a fellow author.

You’ve made sure to list your book on Amazon because everyone says you must. But you’ve made more sales to family on your own.

Here’s an important question: once your book is published do you let it just sit and wait for sales that never come? That may be why you’re not making sales. You haven’t learned to work Amazon, especially concerning their categories. That’s what I’m here to show you.

Amazon wisely structured their site for auto-promotion, promotion and more promotion applied to each and every book without bias. But few authors are aware of the tendrils of opportunity extending from your sales page to your target audiences. And those lead to more and those lead to more and…

If you want to become a category bestseller at Amazon/Kindle don’t relegate Amazon book Categories to a search engine. Learn to list books under the best categories or you may never earn a Category Best Seller. You won’t even be eligible in some cases.

Don’t mistake Amazon for just the world’s largest bookseller. If treated as a simple bookstore you’ll never garner the vast benefits of selling books at Amazon. They have created an ingenious marketing engine that drills through several layers of free and automated publicity, each layer completely unique, and each layer reaching millions of readers every minute of every day.

After learning this skill from Villanueva many writers check to find that their books don’t have any categories attached! Conversely many find they are already Category Best Sellers, they just didn’t know it.

"This book is fantastic. Today for the very first time (that I know of) Be Your Own Editor is a category bestseller in the print book store! But now you have me compulsively checking my Amazon book pages. Look what your book did to me! And thank you.” Bestselling Author/Editor Sigrid Macdonald.

Author Aggie Villanueva initially contacted me to request permission to include a link in this book to my video spoofing the indie author experience, which I happily granted. I’m something of a self-styled indie advocate, so I was enthusiastic about the premise of this book, especially given that navigating the many minefields on the path to publication can be a frustrating experience, to put it mildly. Not long after reading Amazon Categories Create Best-Sellers, my book Xenofreak Nation broke into the top 100 of the Amazon sub-category Books > Teens > Literature and Fiction. Coincidence? Maybe. But if you’re an indie author searching for that extra edge, this book may be the ticket - and if you’re brand new to the indie author game, you just might find this book an invaluable resource.

Amazon Categories: Create Best Sellers: Aggie Villanueva

You crave having your book placed on the bestseller list category on Amazon yet you have done nothing to give your sales a huge nudge to get it there. Amazon has given you the tools to create that number one best seller in more than one category and Aggie Villanueva’s innovative book will teach you the many important secrets, skills and ways to become a best selling author using Amazon. The best part is it is free. Amazon Categories: Create Bestsellers is your 75 page resource and guide to becoming number one. Now, all you have to do is read the book, send come copies to other authors so they will learn the secrets of success too and you are on the way. As the author states Amazon has created a clever and brilliant marketing engine that drills through several layers of free and automated publicity. Once again: IT IS FREE!

Let’s being with the Customer Reviewers section, which has huge potential for untapped publicity. Believe it or not the Amazon Auto bots or robots monitor and keep track of these reviews just to make you eligible for their many top one hundred lists and recommendations. Pay close attention to the tag lines too. After reading this I went to Amazon and added several tag lines to my own book to see if people would take notice and possibly want to buy my book or maybe add it to one of the categories.

Why would you want to create a best seller on Amazon when all too often they have bullied reviewers and authors, deleted reviews for no reason and even taken books off sale for minor infractions that we never knew we committed. As simple as being wrongly accused of getting paid for writing your reviews when you never take a penny. Did you know that your reviews are their property and you cannot reprint or repost them in their entirety anywhere else? Did you know that you can post your review but no hyperlinks or any URL’s to promote anything else or even create an ad for your book or title when posting any review? The author brilliantly explains the highlights related to the many complaints both authors and reviewers have states against Amazon.

First, reviews have been deleted for no reason. One author was accused of creating and posting a review for her own book. Copyright laws and their statement in their reviewer’s guidelines elaborate on why you cannot post your review anywhere else and the copyright laws that they say are quite legal. The author also includes a valuable resource written by Dana Lynn Smith titled How to Get Your Book Reviewed which will guide you through the regulations imposed by Amazon and prevent you from falling prey to the pitfalls. Everyone should Google Amazon’s review policies in order to up on the current information. To learn more about this and read the excerpt the author has shared read pages 19-20 in this great book.

Chapters three and four provide information dealing with marketing plans and why authors post on Amazon when they can get higher royalties elsewhere. Explaining in Chapter four the advantages for self published authors, the reasons by publishing with Create Space may be the way to go and the royalty policy plus how Amazon tallies the sales so that you might see your book listed as one of the Top 100 recommended titles. But, there are disadvantages she sites fro form traditionally published authors which you can read on pages 25-26 as some traditional publishers do not allow authors to choose the categories for their books. She concludes the chapter with how some authors under contract already enjoy many of these freedoms and she list resources to help you including Digi-Tall- Media to help distribute and produce most formats including print and electronic. The author states she retains the book rights in every detail and this sounds like something this author and reviewer just might look into even further. There is a lot more included in this chapter including the definition of co-publishing and Indie publishing.

How does tagging result in top ranking at tag communities, how can you easily rank in the reader’s choice top rated list and nowhere else can you earn multiple category bestseller status so easily so read Chapter five and learn the hidden secrets that are right in front of you to become a bestselling author. Followed by Chapter six: Kindle Book Categories are not just search engines. Believe it or not they are your paths to becoming a best selling author. Here is how:

I actually used the link on page 35 and joined the site and created by own bundles and links. But, the Kindle Direct Publishing does not allow you to choose more than two categories so you need to thin about it before you decide which ones your book fits in. Without the right categories the author states you may never get there. Now, if you read Chapter 7 you will understand the definition of a category and how they are tallied. There is no answer to how your book is chosen to become a best seller and how it is tallied. The author states that Amazon does not count sales from day one for any of their sales rankings. Instead, they choose daily/hourly slices and count up the sales make during that period. To learn more you need to read the chapter for yourself to learn the many secrets unveiled by the author for yourself. Next and definitely primary to your success is reading, as I did several times, Chapter 8 to learn which categories to pick and how to choose the right ones for your book. Remember you can only choose two so you must choose wisely. For a Kindle eBook you choose the categories at the time of publication through your chosen publisher. The categories will then transfer over to the Kindle Bookstore. Important note: this only applies to the Kindle version in Chapter 11 the author will explain how to choose the categories for print copies. Status changes momentarily and categories are only listed as they are shown on page 45 when your book has reached or ranked in the top 100 sales of any category. Next Chapter 9 will help you decide whether to publish in Amazon Print, Kind or mobile devices. The serious pros and cons of both are discussed and the value of publishing in Kindle is stated and the value of print too. You decide for yourself.

Chapter Ten is where you want to be and that is in Amazon’s Print Bookstore too as a bestseller. This chapter goes into detail how to contact Amazon and the links you need in order to create your own categories and up your sales. If you do not have the categories listed you cannot compete for sales rankings at Amazon. This is one chapter you need to pay close attention to. I DID!

Chapter 11 handles how to decide on what print categories you can choose from. The author discusses how she chose the categories for one of her books and she takes you through the entire process step by step. What more can you ask for? Chapter 12 discusses the other Amazon lists you may qualify for and Chapter 13 Bonus Pages at Companion Sites. I found this information at http://bit.ly/llinks

Finally, Chapter 14 discusses contests that you can enter and 15 subscribe now which include the information about Promotions a la Carte Blog and much more. The final chapters are short but vital to your success. Chapter 16 includes a discussion page and where to find the links, 17 how to contact Aggie, 18 recommended reading and sites and finally the author’s bio and information about her.

This is one 75 page book filled with important information that is easily understood, explained, and will definitely guide you right to the best seller’s list. So, read what our author wants to share with you, the author and learn the secrets behind creating a best seller on Amazon. Once again Aggie Villanueva has outdone herself as she did when she wrote this great reference guide for writings titled: The Rewritten Word. So, what are you waiting for? Get a copy of this book and start reading and get on your road to bestseller success.

Many indie author publishing and promotional guides share similar information. At this point in my indie author career, it's all about finding bits of information not already in the multitude of other books written on the subject.

The Postitive

Aggie Villanueva's book didn't disappoint. She doesn't tell you what categories you should list your book under, but she explains how to find better categories, and how to change them step-by-step. She explains how Amazon uses your ranking within these categories to promote your work.

I've since implemented many of her ideas and noticed a tremendous difference. My debut novel, The Fall of Billy Hitchings, spent three weeks on the bestseller list in July, and has currently been there the last three days. Since making changes she suggested, my book has also been on the Amazon UK bestseller list for almost two months!

Understand that this book won't tell you how to put your book on the bestseller list, only how to make it easier using Amazon's built in promotional system with categories.

There were details I didn't expect to get from her book revolving around little known rules Amazon has about sharing reviews on other sites. She discusses these rules in detail and shares links that explain those rules more clearly.

The Negatives

I agree with a few other Amazon reviews on some of the negative aspects, but I can also argue those negatives were needed.

One complaint is that she uses this book to promote others she has written. This is a common practice, and some author's go overboard in this respect, but I didn't feel that as much in this case. Though there was quite a bit of self-promotion, Aggie used much of it to show the reader how her techniques improved those individual books, and to show that she was a bestseller herself.

I read another complaint about the usage of too many links. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. Most of the links take the reader back to her blog and bonus information in regards to her book. This bothered me in that I felt if there was information to be found, why not place it in the book itself?

Here's the problem. Aggie Villanueva implements a growing trend with informational books in that it's a living thing. Whenever she finds new or pertinent information, she adds it to her website. She could have entered the new information in her book, but then those readers who bought her book before the implemented changes wouldn't have access to the latest information.

Definitely worth the money, but it would have been nice if the newer information was instilled within the book rather than on her site.

Any author who wants to see their book up there in Amazon’s shop front needs to get this guide and implement the simple steps outlined to achieve marketing/sales success. Don’t think the length of the book means you won’t get the information you need. I spent time reading it to make sure I understood the strategies outlined, and then I went onto my own book page on Amazon and implemented them. What a shock to see how much your publisher does NOT do for you!

Aggie Villanueva demystifies the giant in the sky called Amazon. Far from being just a bookstore, Amazon has built-in marketing strategies that arise naturally from their own unique construction. (Blessed be the author who manages to work out this for himself.) Villanueva introduces the nuts and bolts of Amazon, and suggests that simply by tapping into the seemingly insignificant areas such as categories, tags, reviews and discussion groups, an incredible marketing machine starts working for the book. Why spend money on a marketing plan when merely making sure your book is properly categorized will reap rich rewards. Correct category listings can catapult a book into bestseller lists. Nearly every Top-100 list is drawn from categories. Get that right (and you can do it yourself) and your book will fly. You can then get into other Top-100 lists.

Many authors prefer to use other or their own sites as selling points because they earn more on each book sale. However, it’s hard to ignore the benefits of the world’s largest store and publicity machine. Amazon’s automated system is simple but multilayered. Books correctly listed will then benefit from free and automatic publicity that reaches millions of readers every day. An author can also monitor and track a book’s performance in these different categories.

This book is also a treasure trove when it comes to hidden extras. The pages are sprinkled with links to other marketing videos or supplementary material, all designed to help you get your book from Amazon to a slew of readers. The writing is clear, and understandable to even the most technologically challenged writer (like me!) Screen grabs also point you in the right direction. This is an essential guide if you're serious about getting your book 'out there.' Highly recommended.

Promotion on Amazon - Amazon Categories Create Best Sellers: But That's Not All They Do

Rating: 4 of 5
Author: Aggie Villanueva
Format: Paperback, Kindle

Young writers are frequently dismayed when they learn simply publishing their work does not result in immediate sales. Even the best novels will have stagnant sales if readers don't know about them. But how does one effectively bring visibility to their work without spending a fortune on marketing?

In “Amazon Categories Create Best Sellers…” author Aggie Villanueva suggests that one of the simplest and most cost-effective (free!) ways is to let someone else do this work for you. Someone with an enormous database of reader’s buying habits who can perfectly match their preferences with your work. Who is this powerful benefactor? Amazon of course - the world's largest bookseller. On Amazon, your book’s selling page looks exactly like every other book including today's bestsellers. It is the best level playing field there is. The key to connecting potential readers with your book is Amazon’s “categories” claims Villanueva.

Is your book science fiction for middle grade readers? Use these categories and put Amazon's database of reader preferences to work via their various promotional engines (etc. Amazon’s emails to readers informing them of your work).

Amazon's categorization alone won't make your book a bestseller but it will greatly increase its visibility to readers interested in your genre.

Villanueva instructs readers on how to effectively choose categories for their books and provides examples for her own work and how she achieve top 10 placement and a number of Amazon categories.

Every author should understand how to leverage Amazon to their advantage and Villanueva provides authors with an introductory resource in "Amazon Categories Create Best Sellers".

Note: A complimentary copy of this work was provided in return for a review.

This book is directed at authors who are trying to sell their books on Amazon. Amazon is an enormous book-selling machine, says the author, but a book can easily get lost in it. One needs to know how to “work” it. This is about increasing a book’s visibility at Amazon by making it a big fish in a small pond—a best seller in a small category. Because being a best seller in any category can open doors at Amazon, leading to “tendrils of opportunity” to other promotions, even to round-the-clock, “tightly-targeted mega publicity,” at no cost to you. Amazon is “a good marketing setup,” says the author, if you know how to work it. This book attempts to show you how.

I am going to withhold rating this book because I am still trying to understand how to apply it. The claims of the author are true, I have found, but are they useful information? I can’t say. Not yet. Before I read this book, my book was already a category best-seller at Amazon, in categories selected by someone else without my participation. It is too late for me to select categories for it, as it has already been published. So far I have found little information in this book to act upon, but I am still trying to figure it out.

This book is a goldmine. Having sold on Amazon for many years, I was already familiar with some of the info - mostly through trial and error. I totally wish I had been able to read this years ago! It would have saved me so much time and trouble. Aggie walks authors through the basics of Amazon's best tricks and tips for gaining bestseller status. This really is basic, easy stuff, but so much of it is obscure that many authors will have no idea how to access it. I certainly learned a few new things as well - including the little tidbit that reposting positive Amazon reviews on my own website could end up causing my book to be pulled completely from the Amazon catalog. You can bet I'll be taking advantage of that one.

It was also a pleasant surprise to find my blog Wordplay (http://wordplay-kmweiland.blogspot.com) listed in one of the appendixes. Thanks, Aggie!
