After a minor earthquake, the enchanted forest in Bidwell, MA, is infested with monster-spewing rifts. Gisele's great nephew, the gifted Micah, and his distant cousin, Selena, arrive to assist. Together with Gisele's summer students, twins Haley and Lacey, they will try to help the magical forest. Much to the consternation of the beautiful Selena, Micah identifies Haley as The One whom he'll share his future. But after witnessing a terrifying display of Micah's Gift, Haley cools to his advances and unexpectedly discovers her own Gift-- she can heal the earth. Monsters, mayhem, and teenage angst follow the small group as they confront evil in the forest and a dangerous prediction that 'one will fall'. Will they heal the rifts in time? Can they save the unicorns? And is Haley really destined to be with Micah?
I received this book from the author herself as to give an honest literary review.
Rift Healer was an amazing read, I could not put it down. This book is targeted for all audiences young and adult it is such a wonderful book you will truly enjoy it yourself.
I found a part in here that made me chuckle quite a bit, "Taylor grabbed his blue plastic six-shooter. This is so stupid. We're going to get eaten and all they'll find is melted, plastic water guns." Now you will have to read this story to find this part and you will understand why I had to chuckle a bit. Rift Healer was unlike any book that I read before, it has different mythical creatures such as dragons, unicorns, fairies, tinker tinks, water sprites. I was very impressed with the way the story turned out and how everything combined together and did not miss a step. I was also amazed on how when the rift's were opened and creatures came out they weren't the "same" creatures every time, they were different, harder to fight. I thought the author did a wonderful job on that.
Rift Healer is about a group of children no more than sixteen years old. Haley and Lucy (which are twin sisters), Taylor (Lucy's boyfriend), Gisele's great nephew Micah, and Selena. When a earthquake hits they all have a dangerous, exciting, summer. Not only are they fighting to help the forest where the good mythical creatures live, they are fighting to keep other rifts from not opening in other places they only have a time frame to do this. With a summer of fighting with magic pretty much there is a romance that will blossom between two characters.
Diane, has done a wonderful job with the characters, the mythical creatures, and with the magic. Her story line goes together perfectly and makes me want to read more. I can not wait to read more from this author, she did a terrific job.
I received “Rift Healer” as a GIFT from Author Diane Haynes herself for my enjoyment, and as a lover of books I wanted to pass along my fair and unbiased opinion in a review.
I absolutely loved this book, and I must admit that I was totally surprised by the story… you may ask why surprised? Well when I first read the blurb it was like ok, I’ll read this soon, but it wasn’t one of those that said READ ME NOW! It, the blurb.. didn’t do this novel justice at all.
Rift Healer is one of those books that kept me engrossed or engaged as everything took place, as the story progressed and unfolded right before my eyes. Loving each page as the story just grew into this amazing read.
I fell in love with the enchanted forest that is in serious trouble after a earthquake hits. A lot is put in danger as the rift starts to happen. Haley, Lucy, Taylor, Selena and Micah must fight to help the forest, mythical creatures live there that are in danger. They must stop other rifts from opening, and they don’t have much time!!
Diane Haynes did a phenomenal job writing/forming all the characters and the amazing mythical creatures are simply out of this world. With the magic of this story just popping out at me saying, “come follow me” and be apart of this magical enchanting story.
I highly recommend “Rift Healer” to everyone. I promise you will fall in love with this magical book as I did. A MUST READ!!
Recommend: All (younger ones can be read this story) Rating: 5/5 angel stars
Haley and Lacey are twins, they come to their grandmothers in the summer and work on learning herbs and plants with Gisele, an old woman who is also in possesion of magical powers and a secret she is unwilling to share. An earthquake caused a series of rifts in the forest floor and are letting a bunch of terrible creatures loose. Gisele calls on her grandnephew and his distant cousin twice removed, Selena, to help her. Micah and Haley have an instant connection much to the dislike of Selena who wants Micah for herself. Initially Gisele is unwilling to allow Haley, Lacey and Lacey's boyfriend, Taylor to help in the battle. The trio discover, though, that Haley has the power to heal the rifts and without her there is no chance of getting it done before the evil gets loose and destroys the magical creatures of the forest and then moves on the our world. This book is chock full of mythical creatures like, dragons, unicorns, fairies, evil bugs, etc. although not the main focus of the book, they are all enjoyable. Can't wait for the next book in the series to see where it goes next. A must read.
I fell in love with this book within a few chapters, and would have easily finished in one sitting if I hadn't had to get up for work the next day.
The book follows the story of an old lady, Gisele and a group of teenagers, Haley and her twin sister Lacey, Taylor, Micah and Selena, who are thrown together in an adventurous, exciting yet dangerous summer in which they must save a magical forest from rifts that are appearing all over.
The storyline is well thought out, and will easily appeal to both young and old. The writing style is clear, very vivid descriptions and you can just completely lose yourself in the story. The characters are well balanced, and all have their own strengths and weaknesses which develop as the story moves on. The story ends nicely, but I would love it to carry on a couple of years later.
Duncan McGonall’s Review of Diane M. Haynes’ Rift Healer
Rift Healer is about half Young Adult and a healthy helping of Middle Grade paranormal fantasy rite of passage romance. Except for a scant few errors, Rift Healer appears to have been professionally edited. The style of prose is engaging and forward, following a straight-line chronology with few deviations into backstory. Those present are artfully done and always in forward motion, immediately relevant to present-tense action. Characters are consistent. Chapter divisions are brief and end on a note that encourages the partaking of another. Though the story as is, is complete, enough is implied to warrant a sequel, perhaps even a trilogy. The tone is bright almost to the point of surreal, but necessary to appreciate the gravity of the plot dilemma.
To Haynes’ credit, though her monsters are taken from a few different mythologies, there are no weir creatures or vampires and the thrust of the tale told does not depend upon a collective reader knowledge base of pre-set expectations. Her monsters appear in an original setting with original, if simple, focus. The simplicity is easily embraced since they are, in their base form, only energy and not the true threat, but minions of an intelligent, malign force. The concepts of polarity and balance appear throughout the tale along with their hazards, or “unintended consequences.” The amount of work and thought that went into crafting this story and weaving its levels of nuance is obvious. Speaking to the protagonist-antagonist dynamic, there are a few. The reluctantly formed group of six practitioners versus the malign force releasing foul beasts into the forest is one dynamic, wherein Haley is the rather unwilling dominant element to overall success. Another is individual, featuring a handful of characters. Gisele fights a very discrete battle against an unseen foe, unknown to all but her and the reader. Micah must defeat his inflated ego. Selene must face and conquer rage and jealousy.
Haley, Lacy and Taylor, on the other hand, as relative novices, require external circumstances to reflect back to them their internal enemies. The story does well illustrating the peculiarities of the young teenagers’ internal strife using the danger they face. There are several interlaced personal stories within the whole.
Superficially, in a light reading just for fun, the protagonist is a fifteen year old spirited girl, Haley, recently coming to terms with parents divorcing, who meets her fated One on a summer trip to Bidwell, where her father presently lives.
Other, older characters such as the wizened grandmother and kindly witch figure, Gisele and two somewhat older teenagers, Micah and Selene, function in the narrative as a bridge for the lesser trained; Haley, her sister Lacey, and an auxiliary character, Taylor. The author’s effort at balance is hard to miss, as is the portrayal of the inevitable human factor involved at efforts to control outcomes. As a tale reflective of the human condition, this one illustrates, utilizing understatement, the complications caused by pushing too hard toward an expected outcome. Maintaining balance proves as difficult as nailing jello to a tree. Yet, for younger audiences, Rift Healer maintains its fun pace and engaging readability that sparks hope and appeals to a sense of secrecy, purpose and adventure.
The author uses a good many real life authentic terms paired with those completely imaginary in a context that squares with the economy of the tale, handily tutoring the reader in most cases as to their meanings while using their significance to forward the paranormal aspect of the plot. Paired opposite the romance aspect, the interaction between Micah and Haley runs perilously close to the line between the real thing--bona-fide true love--and sappy. Contrasted to the apt tutelage of the reader in the magical principles presented in the narrative, the romance is a tad overstated for audiences much older than Haley, such that it very nearly eclipses a story that could easily succeed in older audiences with more tension and less immediate satisfaction.
Despite the first impression, it’s not a neat little fairy tale box these characters fit into, but an ever-evolving, always complicated pursuit after an impossible ideal whose purpose is not to be actually attained, but to gain the immaterial riches to be had in the striving for it. One gets the impression that Haynes’ reach for rite of passage is divided where Haley is concerned. The divided attention competes for headspace, further reflecting the genuine complexities of the magical life. This subtlety, is carefully woven into a story designed to engage young minds. Four Stars.
Haley and Lacey look forward to staying with their grandmother in the summer. They love being there and also they love helping and learning from Giselle. She help them have a fun summer last year learning a little about magic and exploring the enchanted forest. This summer may have more magic and adventure than the twins are expecting. See rifts are opening up and it may be up to them to save the forest and maybe the world from an evil. They have help when Micah and Selena show up at their aunt Giselle to help and learn more magic. Micah has more reasons for coming than learning magic. He wanted to meet Haley. Lacey's boyfriend Taylor is also there to help them heal the rifts and to help in what way he can.
Haley I liked from the start. She seemed like the shy girl who doesn't stand out a lot because she won't let herself. She grows so much in this book and even tho she is only 14 she learns a lot about growing up. Lacey is funny at times. She has to know what is going on with Haley all the time and never tries to get in Haleys way just has to know what is going on. They act like what I imagine sisters would ac like. Taylor is the normal guy that even if he isn't as powerful as the rest he learns quickly and always has everyones back. Micah to me came on to strong at times and could have a cocky attitude. He really cares for Haley but at times he would let that get in the way. I did grow to like him more as the book when on. Giselle I loved from the start she knows it may kill her but she still takes these kids to do what has to be done. She is so strong and has so much knowledge. Selena I didn't care for. She seemed liked the snotty girl who wants everything her way. Even when she helps out I still didn't grow to like her a whole lot.
This is a very clean YA fantasy/ adventure book. It has romance in it but it is a sweet young love that doesn't go to far. There is plenty of adventure as these kids do all they can and battle many creatures to heal the rifts. All types of creatures come out in this book making it a magical read. I enjoyed this book and soon got involved with the story trying to see if they will make it and wondering what things they will face next. The only thing that kept me from loving it was how serious some relationships seem in this book and the kids age. It is still a great book don't get me wrong I just didn't live that part of it. Maybe if they were a little older it wouldn't have bothered me as bad. If you are wanting to go on a magical adventure pick this one up!
Okay, I'm ashamed to say that this book is a classic 'don't judge a book by it's cover' case for me. I'm not really a fan of the cover, and the blurb on the back was only mildly interesting. Those things almost made me pass on this book. HOLY COW, that would have been a HUGE mistake!!
Let me try to put this into perspective for you-- I have a 4 year old daughter, and I've been buying YA and MG books for her. Yes, I realize that she won't be able to read them for years. I just want to have the books I LOVED on hand for her for when she's ready. I have Anne of Green Gables, Black Beauty, Heidi, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Are You There, God...?, The Book Thief, and many more. All classics, all amazing books. Guess what else will be on that shelf soon? You got it. Rift Healer. THAT'S how much I LOVED this book, and THAT'S how much this book means to me now. It easily deserves a spot on my daughter's shelf with the classics I fell in love with as a girl.
Rift Healer transported me back in time. I was again 12 years old, adventuring beside our heroes, twins Haley and Lacey. I could feel my heart pounding during the battles, I held my breath during the anxious moments, and 12 year old me blushed right along with Haley when Micah would say something sweet.
This book is like a mash-up of Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz, Narnia and The Lord of the Rings--but it's so fantastically UNIQUE. The characters are amazing and wonderful. The writing is so vivid that you WILL be in the forest alongside Giselle. You WILL hear The Terrors. You WILL feel the grass beneath your feet. You WILL see the beauty of the flowers.
Without spoilers, I can tell you that the last battle will have your heart in your throat, and that you'll fall in love with the Greenman. ;)
I don't know if Rift Healer is the first in a series or if it's a stand-alone novel--but I truly hope this isn't the last we've seen of Haley, Micah and the rest. I can tell you most definitely that every single one of these books, if written, will find it's spot on my shelf ready and waiting.
I HIGHLY recommend Rift Healer for middle graders and teens 10+. There is NO excessive language or sexual scenes, and I'd be very comfortable letting my daughter read this book when she's ready for it.
Ebook: Rift Healer Author: Diane M. Haynes Fiction, Paranormal, magic This review may contain spoilers I was gifted this by the author for an honest review Summary: After a minor earthquake, the enchanted forest in Bidwell, MA, is infested with monster-spewing rifts. Can they save the unicorns? And is Haley really destined to be with Micah? The Review I don’t know where to start, there was so much in this book and all of it was fabulous, The author hit the nail on the head with this one, it kept me entertained for hours. It was extremely well written, the characters were mostly teens who acted just like teens would have reacted in the same environment, I loved it, Micah sounded so yummy, the perfect gent, but only just. Selena the jealous one had some issues, Haley & Lacey twins, my friends daughters could be playing their parts, they are just the same, I loved the forest, I wish we had one in real life, with unicorns and fairies, my kids would play in it all day long, I love all the different monsters that came out of the rifts, what a strange concoction that was, they were all so freaky and you gave them some funky names too, love it, I wonder if there will be Rift Healer 2, would love to know what happens to all the kids and how they get on and if you could come up with any more freaky monsters, and what happens with Gisele, how long does she go on, I am giving this to my daughter to read as I think she will love it, I would highly recommend this to anyone who loved Harry Potter or Percy Jackson and wants something similar to read, 5/5.
I want to start off by saying this was such an interesting read! There was no room for me to be "if-y" in anyway. The plot was well developed and the story has a continuous pace that draws you in but doesn't overwhelm in any way, I found it quite enjoyable and couldn't put it down, literally whenever I found the time to read it I did, I finished it within a days length.
Haley and her twin sister Lacey are in for a real treat this summer when they go to stay with their Grandma Clara but one of the things the girls look forward to the most while there are the lessons they receive from their grandmother's best friend, Gisele. Now I can't give to much away because it would basically be giving part of the plot away but they run into some things that they find themselves with a summer filled with adventure, danger and love? Yes, of course what book is complete without some hint of a love interest and in this case the love interest I can foretell will capture the hearts of many eager readers, Yes ladies, Micah is waiting for you to pick up this book and dive in!
Like I stated earlier this book really captured my attention with it is amazing pace and plot development, the end really held my attention even when I knew it was the end, I look forward to the next book in the series especially because I can not wait to see how it continues to develop, I can only imagine that the second book will deliver just as much as this one did.
Thank you to Diana M. Haynes for contacting us here at Lunar Haven, I am so glad that you came across our site and sent in a review request. All of us here at Lunar Haven look forward to working with you again in the future.
Rift Healer is a story that is unlike any other story I have read before. I have read plenty of fantasy and mystical kind of books but this one just took me to a place I can honestly say I have never been and I loved it. The mix of reality and the magical and the group of mismatched and to a point inexperienced magical people if you like, was so refreshing I didn't want it to end. I really hope there is more in this series. The characters were different and even though some of what they can do is expected , Lacey and Haley were surprising me all the way through. To recap though, Haley and Lacey are twins, for a laugh they visit a fortune teller at a carnival who predicts the usual things, true love, danger, a fight and so on, but little did the girls know how the prediction would relate so much to the summer holidays they would spend with their Grandma Clara. It all starts with an earthquake, which leads us to Giselle, who lives in a quiet cottage at the edge of her families magical forest. She is tutoring the girls and Taylor (Lacey's boyfriend) in the use of herbs. Giselle is aware of Haley's developing gifts but keeps this to herself. We are also introduced to Micah, Giselle's great nephew and Selena who come to Giselle's aid when she notices growing disturbances or rifts in the forest. There is a continued agonising play between Hayley, Selena and Micah as emotions run wild with the teenagers, but together they pull through and do what needs to be done. There is a real anxious build up, which I loved. Page after page I just had to know what would happen. Such a refreshing book, and a change of scenery that I would happily read again.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was provided free from the author in exchange for honest literary review.
Gisele has enjoyed her life next to an enchanted forest for almost fifty years in peace. She has used her skills in herbology and her Gifts to heal and even taught other student along the way. No students have grabbed her heart more than her latest pupils Haley, Lacey, and Taylor. Haley and Lacey and identical twins and Taylor just happens to be Lacey's boyfriend. Both of the twins have gifts, but power radiates from Haley. A giant quake shakes the forest and opens rifts in the forest floor unleashing evil creatures of darkness on the forest. When Gisele sends out a call for help all that returns to her is Micah and Selena - two more teenagers. While these two are from her own line of magic and trained, she must figure out how to heal all the rifts leaking evil with just her and 5 teenagers. Most importantly she needs to bring everyone out of the forest alive. I fell in love with this book and I so hope there is a continuation. I adore the romatic overtones between the teens, because all of us remember first love and first heartbreak. The action is fast paced and grabs your attention from the very start. While the group does work together, the author develop each different, separate personalities .....and makes you feel as if you know them all. I read this book all the way through without stopping!!! It is definitely one you won't walk away from a WaAr review
I received a copy of this book from the author for a review. I really liked the beginning of the story with Micah feeling a very strong attraction to a girl in a photograph. Once I met the twins I really got invested into the story line and with their first battle I was hooked. This is totally new and fresh in so many ways. The dragons they need to fight to make sure good overcomes evil is new and fresh and from flying rats, which, by the way was totally freaking me out to fast growing moss assisting in the battles I was dazzled and wowed. This is the type of world I would really get lost in if I could. It has all the original earmarks of a fairy tale but then the baddies is weird and wonderful, the good guys come as moss and fairies, the weapon of choice is a water gun. Picture it. A 14 year old girl fighting the battle for good vs. evil with a water gun. On originality alone, this book gets 5 stars and 10 if I only could. Haley and Micah's love story was nice and sweet and convincing and got me as a reader invested in their well being. I don’t know what more to write to get you to read it without giving away too much of the plot. But please, read it. Really, you will love it. Over all I give this book an 8 * review rating and again on originality alone, it deserves a 10 *.
I like the draw to this book. The enchanted forest that twins Haley and Lacey have to save is full of magical creatures, I really enjoyed reading about each creature that crossed their path, good or bad. For me the beginning had a rough start, I felt it was jumpy in parts. It started to get good after they went to their grandma's for the summer and meet up with Gisele their teacher of magic and all things herbal. Gisele held alot of the plot together in my eyes. The story was unique and but I didn't feel a depth to it. I had a hard time relating to the characters. I feel this book is better suited for teens. The characters, other than Gisele were all 14-15 years old. I got a little creeped out at times with how 'deep' the love connections went with kids this young....especially at one point when she wonders how their kids will look. If you can get past that, which I was able to skim past, then the book is definitely worth reading. Haley is a new Rift Healer and it is up to her to save the forest, while she fixes the rifts it's up to her family and friends to protect her as she does. Facing dangerous creatures the Entity sends they also have the Greenman and the good creatures to watch their back, though they can't always step in to help. It's quite a journey and a magical one at that.
I received this book in exchange for a honest review ~WaAr~
I just love love this book, and I'm hoping to see more to this story. I love the characters so much. I can relate to Hayley easy and Lacy reminds me of my sister. I also love Micah (who wouldn't)! Taylor is also a great character. The writing is wonderful and it is a fast read full of adventure! I'm very impressed and can't wait to read more by this author!!
Hayley and Lacy are twins down for the summer to visit their father and Grandmother Clara. They take lessons from Gisele in the summer to learn about herbs, plants, and different things. This summer is different though, Gisele doesn't have time to teach them. She is charged with healing the ancient forest as her relatives done in the past. When an unknown evil entity threatens the forest Gisele brings her great nephew and Selena to help her heal the rifts. Unbeknownst to her, Hayley, Lacy, and Taylor come in and decide to help Gisele when she told them not to. Gisele finds out she can't do it with the teens and reduced to training them for the upcoming battle. Who will win? Will Hayley trust Micah? Who will betray them? Will the prophesy come true? Who will fall? You will have to read this amazing book to find out. I give this a 5 star review!
I LOVE LOVE LOVED this book! First of all the cover. It related to the book and is such a magical picture. Perfect for the story. You know how sometimes you pick up a book because the cover looks interesting then you read the blurb and think "how the heck does it relate to the picture?" That annoys me.
Anyway back to the story...
Rift Healer was sweet, lovely and romantic but also exciting, magical and energetic. It was one of those books I had a really hard time putting down. I was addicted to the story. Micah has the reputation of a heart-breaker but one look of Haley in a photograph and he was head over heels. The journey of Haley and Micah's relationship is adorable. Being teenagers, I think most readers will be able to relate to them. We all love relatable characters. The story itself is fantastic. Mythical creatures, magic, the world in danger of being overun by "The Terrors", a traitor, romance, it's the perfect recipe for all of you fantasy lovers out there.
But I must mention a specific weapon of choice when it came to fight the monsters.... A water gun. This made me laugh. Totally unrealistic but do you know what? Who cares! It made it quirky and that little bit more original. Rift Healer won't disappoint and is definitely worth reading!
The wonderful Diane Haynes gave me a copy of her book Rift Healer in exchange for an honest review. I was thrilled that I accepted. The book was awesome in a can’t put it down kind of way.
As we start Rift Healer we are introduced to 14 year-old twins Haley and Lacey. They spend the summers at their grandmothers house and spend the weekends during the summer with their father. During the summer before the book starts, they started working with a woman named Giselle who begins teaching them different types of magic.
As the new summer begins, Haley and Lacey will learn how much the forest truly needs their powers and skills that they have been taught. They will also find out that they need to learn a whole lot more if they are going to be able to save the forest.
We also meet Micah- Giselle’s great nephew, Selena- Micah’s distant cousin, and Taylor- Lacey’s boyfriend. These three characters will all play very important parts in the story.
This book was truly awesome. I felt as though i was right along side with the characters as they learned new abilities and faced difficult battles. I would definitely give it 5 stars. I am curious to find out what will happen next in Haley’s life. So yes, I will definitely be buying the next one when it comes out!
Being warned by the fortune teller about having the most exciting and dangerous summer of their life, twins Hayley and Lacey head to their grandmother’s for the summer. Looking forward to romance and adventure, not knowing that’s exactly what they’ll get and then some! Rift Healer was exciting, fun and it never really had a dull moment in it. Beautiful imagery made me want to actually visit the forest. The concept is so unique and different that its special to me just for that! This one had me in the start itself when I read that map... I love it when the author takes the book a step further and puts in maps and other imagery to help it just makes me appreciate the book a whole lot more... This book has it all, all of my favorite things – Magic, Unicorns, Dragons, Water Sprites, Faries, Good Plot – which never gets boring, Fast paced, Action packed and the best part its an escape! The imagery and the way its described is so simple that you just get carried away to this beautiful place... But I will have to say my favorite scene was the unicorn one.. I loved it! :D Amazing read for all fantasy lovers out there!! :D
"You are about to have ze most exciting and dangerous summer of your life." They were warned by a fortune teller before the summer even began.
Haley and her identical twin sister Lacey return to their grandmothers for the summer. This year they return to study magic with their grandmother's best friend to find the magical creatures in the forest under siege. Rifts are appearing to spew danger and all variety of scary biting and venom spitting creatures. Haley has a new found talent for healing the rifts. With back up from her sister, sister's boyfriend, her new boyfriend and a really cranky jealous hater; Haley follows Gisele (grandma's bestie) into the forest to set the world to rights.
It is a very magical story beautifully written. All the expected magical creatures are there; unicorn, dragon, tinks, sylphs, sprites, the green man. Then there are an entire new group of crazy and scary creatures to introduced to; Terratress, bugs, swarms of moths, carnivorous frogs, slyths, dragonocepedes and others. And who could resist a cute boy with a sword?
This is one of those books where the age of the reader doesn’t matter. I can see this appealing to both a younger audience and an adult one.
Ms. Haynes creates a fabulous enchanted forest with an array of mythical creatures. Her characters are well thought out, tight and believable. I loved how they were all connected— a group of friends and family.
Description is one of Ms. Haynes strong points, from the characters, to her amazing enchanted forest, to the good guys and the bad. I felt like I was there every step of their journey. Even now, I can still close my eyes, the imagery still fresh in my mind like a beautifully painted picture.
This is an excellent display of wonderful writing, magnificent characters, and a plot that will have you turning page after page, desperate for more.
I was lucky enough to receive a copy from the Author, but I truly recommend this to everyone who likes magical fantasies with a great love story.
WOW!!! That was the first thought that crossed my mind when I finished Rift Healer. This was one of the best YA fantasies I have read. I could not put it down. The characters were very fun and likable, the adventure was fantastical, and the pace was perfect. I simply adored the lore Diane used and anytime someone is able to have a unicorn in a story for YA and adult readers, they are my kind of author. The presence of Gisele, the mentor/leader/grandmotherly figure really added a lot to the story and it was refreshing to see and read. I really hope this is the first of many books in a series and not just a stand alone novel. While the story arc was complete, I am not ready to say goodbye to these characters. The only problem I had with this story was that I really wished the twins were 15 and not 14 and it looks, from the blurb, that they are 15 in the final version (I had an advanced reading copy).
I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book it was truly a unique book, I have never read a book like this with this kind of plot of adventure. It is a totally different take on fantasy. I love the characters in the book and how they tied in to the story, it is a great mixture of romance and adventure, that leaves wanting to know more, cant wait for the next book. I had trouble putting down this book to do other stuff, because I just wanted to continue reading and know what would happen next. If you love fantasy, like unicorns, fairies, and others creatures you can imagine or not; plus romance this is the book for you. I gave this book five stars because I loved the book characters and unique plot of the story. :)
This novel is creative, adventurous, and magical. A group of teens spend their summer with their aged herb teacher battling fantastical creatures while attempting to heal rifts in their favorite enchanted forest. Unicorns, dragons, fairies, and my personal favorite--The Green Man--plus many more like giant scorpions, line quicksand, and Terrors all make their appearance in these pages. Mix in teen romance, some jealousy, and the special bond between twin sisters and you have a great YA fantasy!
I loved this book! Haynes drew me in with her Enchanted Forest right away and I was ready to stay there. Her vision of its magical inhabitants is wonderfully different, yet familiar at the same time. RIFT HEALER is tightly written, fast paced and flows smoothly from one magical moment to the next. The characters are engaging and believable and will appeal to adults as well as the YA group. Haley is especially endearing, with her awkward blossoming into an adult and magical healer. I can't wait to read what's next in this awesome series! I highly recommend this book!

Ms. Haynes is an excellent storyteller. I found myself surprised that the story was not the teenaged angst-filled romance with a few mythical beasties thrown in. Instead, the forest's healing is integral to the story and, I think, a metaphor for the trials faced in a relationship. The rifts at first are small and both parties are pleased that they are healed fairly easily. However, they become progressively worse and more teamwork and effort is involved, and outside influences interfere.
A delightful story filled with magical ingredients where the characters must battle evil and save the forest. It was well written, if for a younger audience, and I could see its potential for fantasy fans.
I won't give away too much, but will say that it is worth a look.
Although technically YA, I found this to be a nice break from a lot of the stuff out there. It had an entertaining story line, believable characters, and drew me in from page one. While obviously a fantasy story, there was enough 'real world' to keep it from being frivolous and downright silly, which made it one of the more entertaining books to cross my path in quite a while.
I couldn't put it down!! It was awesome ,, its a love story with magic ,, I bought two copies ,, great to read with your teenage daughter ,, must read ,,
