Die Aufmachung ist es letztlich, was ich an dem Buch behaltenswert gut finde. Mit der Gestaltung ( Goldschnitt / zahlreiche Illustrationen und Bilder ...) wurde sich so viel Mühe gegeben, dass ich es einfach nicht übers Herz bringe das Buch gleich nach dem Lesen wieder wegzugeben.
Inhaltlich konnte es mich jedoch überhaupt nicht überzeugen. Im Schnelldurchlauf wird einmal durch die Bibel und dann durch die Zeitgeschichte der Menschheit geprescht. Dabei ist kein ‚Einlesen ins Buch‘ möglich, denn alles bleibt blass. Wie soll man auch in den teilweise sieben Zeilen langen Einträge etwas unterbringen wie Gedankengänge, Geschehen, Personen und vielleicht noch Humor oder Atmosphäre? Ein gute Idee war das Buch gewiss und allein die reicht ja schon aus um das Werk unter die Leute zu bringen, aber letztlich wurde hier reichlich Potential schlicht verpulvert. Das Buch wirkt lieblos niedergeschrieben und keinesfalls wie ein Herzensprojekt, bei dem man mehr als nötig an Zeit und Gedankenströmungen investiert hat.
Und auch den Humor konnte ich nicht finden. Nicht einmal beim Formulieren wurde ein wenig mit einer Priese ‚Wortwitz‘ gespielt, was bei den kurzen Texten unbedingt nötig gewesen wäre.
Die gesamte Sprache des Buches ist modern und verfasst im Tonfall einer E-mail. Gut, vielleicht mag es auch wirklich den Tagebuchstil von Normalbürgern treffen, aber von einem intelligenten & teuflischen Wesen hätte ich mehr erwartet.

The thing I love the most about this book was the brief history captured through diary entries of Mr. S starting from the very beginning (before the Big Bang) in a style of building a successful business throughout ages. Humorously written many cooperations, contracts and world events made me think of the other (dark) side of famous people, who gained their recognition and success. Also a big plus was a contract specimen, which should be signed with blood to be valid.
The fresh idea of picturing Mr. S writing his diary was very unique, amusing and the book helped me understand the world history much better.
The only minus was unreadable font used in some parts of the book (it didn't influence a content of the book, though) but it is just a personal preference. Some may like it, some not. However, the whole book was a great idea, I loved every page.

What if Satan wrote his diaries and wanted to show how hardworking manager of huge corporation he is, does anybody believe him? Indeed you would especially if your own firm is struggling in cruel world. There is also contract included in this book so your business can get boost by merrily signing. Oh yes the red is recommended, if there is lack of ink blood would do...yours.

Wat er in het dagelijks leven van de duivel gebeurt zou je niet snel bij stilstaan. Geniaal verzonnen en hilarisch boekje. Het boekje ziet er ook nog leuk uit. Met leuke illustraties, een contract voorin en gouden randjes op de bladzijde is het heel leuk om in de kast te hebben staan. Ik had het wel liever in 1 verhaal gelezen, ipv losse stukjes door elkaar. Daarvoor 3 sterren.

Witty, mocking, sly and punning (or is that punnish?), this fictional novel about the Dark Lord is a rousing breath of fetid air. It’s certainly a respite from the repetitive, dull-as-dishwater mess that is the Bible. Old Scratch is happy to encourage mankind to all sorts of naughtiness. He likes his fun and good times, whether it’s unleashing the Black Plague to watching rigid, do-gooders trip themselves with failed schemes like the Salem witch hunts and Prohibition.
The book travels from Satan watching in curiosity as God creates light and proceeds to contemporary times. The Devil gets his due but it’s fun to read his shifting views on mankind—and his uneasiness on how some of us are getting a little too big for our britches.
Puns, slick humor and winking bon mots litter the pages as we’re made privy to the Devil’s thoughts. All of this is wrapped in an attractive black cover with the title in blood red (his favorite colors). The book is cunningly made to look worn around the edges as if much handled and is completed with a lovely red silk book mark attached and attractive gilt edges. A must-have for anyone who prizes wicked good humor.

This book started off with a bang, but I had to give it three stars instead of 4 because I read it in two days and this sort of book is better in bite size pieces.
I do recommend this book for a bit of light-hearted religious satire, but definitely take one part (there are five total parts) at a time and allow a rest in between, perhaps read a book of a different genre between each part. Some things are best when aged. This is one of them. :)

Von außen ein wirklich schön gemachtes Buch. Auch die Seitengestaltung ist sehr aufwendig. Leider hält der Text nicht, was das Aussehen verspricht.
Ich hatte dieses Buch gelesen, um zu prüfen, ob man es in einer Kirche aussetzen kann, ohne jemanden zu beleidigen. Man kann. Es handelt sich nur um eine Ansammlung von Belanglosigkeiten, völlig harmlos.

It was actually good. I bought this book when I bought the Devils Diary, DVD both were good. May took me awhile to read because I'm a long reader. Lmao, take me forever to read novels, unlike when I read zombie apocalypse and comics books.

This was an intriguing and quick read. The book opens up with an unsigned contract with the Devil and rest is composed in a typical diary fashion with side notes, doodles and clippings. It was quite comical at times and it was interesting seeing the "Devils" spin on well known historic events. The only thing that got me is that it felt like I was reading the diary of a hormonal teen (who just so happened to control the underworld). It really made the Devil seem more like a child than the feared Evil One. Still, it's an entertaining book and worth picking up if you want a short and easy read!

Essentially, every page is like "My new client {name of rockstar, writer, dictator, president, pope,...} did something {good, bad}, I'm sure he will {get along well, pay for it}, but it's good for my business and God is pretty angry now." These things work every now and then in an episode of "Lucifer", but they don't suffice to fill a book.

I would've given this book 5 stars, but I guess some of my Christian roots are still pretty strong. At times I laughed at others I bit my cheek in a bit of shame. The blasphemous remarks semi cut. However some of the book was hysterical especially the devil dealing with man. I read it in one day.

A lot of the historical commentary is a bit forced and on the nose. But it's cute overall, and a nicely put-together volume. The sketches are the best part.

Dans la famille "l'habit ne fait pas le moine", je demande Le Journal Du Diable ! Autrement dit, si comme moi vous avez craqué sur la couverture et son allure générale (imitation vieux carnet en cuir avec tranches des pages dorées et marque page en tissu rouge), vous risquez d'être déçu par le contenu.
L'idée est bonne, pour ne pas dire excellente même, bah ouais quoi le journal intime du Diable ! Y a de quoi s'attendre à de bonnes anecdotes rigolotes et du second degré à gogo. Bah pas tant que ça au final... Le Diable revient sur les dates les plus marquantes de l'histoire, celles où il est bien évidemment intervenu... Mais je ne dois pas être la seule à trouver la chronologie un peu légère car, ne nous voilons pas la face, le passé de l'humanité regorge... de catastrophes. D'ailleurs, Le Journal Du Diable finit bien par ressembler à une satire de l'espèce humaine : au bout du compte, le Diable, c'est l'Homme. Dur de ne pas arriver à cette conclusion mais l'intérêt aurait justement été de ne pas y aller tout droit car c'était le chemin le plus facile !
Le plus sympathique au final est l'esthétique du livre, même si elle aurait pu l'être encore plus, en étant interactive par exemple, comme le Cathy's Book: If Found Call 650-266-8233.
En bonus, un des meilleurs passages :
"La Bible se porte bien dans le sud des Etats-Unis, et naturellement aucun de ces tarés n'a compris, comme D. le demandait, qu'il faut aider les pauvres, répandre la paix, l'amour, la compassion et tout le tintouin (...) Là-haut, au paradis, D. se gratte la tête pour essayer de comprendre à quel moment tout a commencé à clocher, pendant que ses loyaux supporters, eux, me mâchent la besogne. Je regrette de ne pas avoir inventé la religion."

- Le visuel est vraiment sympa même si un effort supplémentaire aurait pu être fait... mais le prix n'aurait sans doute pas été le même.
- On sourit, parfois.

- Un contenu plutôt pauvre.

Review title: Sympathy for the devil?
Inconsequential little book I found at an Ollie's deep discount store for a few bucks, and it was worth about that much. Purports to be excerpts "as transcribed by Professor M. J. Weeks" from Satan's five-volume diary, sold to the author--sorry, transcriber--by his agent M. F. St. Opheles. Yeah, there are 200 pages of that. If you groaned, drop and run (while you still can); if you chuckled, read on, but don't sign anything in red ink or . . . . Hey, that's not ink!
As a Christian who lives his Christianity seriously, one thing I wondered about was how much of this would be blasphemous, sacrilegious or at least offensive, and in truth, very little falls in any of these categories. Satanic satire done in sophisticated socially-acceptable taste? It's done here!
In fact, while (forked) tongue is firmly in cheek, by following the basic outlines of Biblical history Satan confirms that in fact he does know his Bible (see James 2:19) and is in such mortal fear of God that he refuses to refer to Him by name throughout, using various abbreviations and nicknames. And you will search in vain for reference to the signal event in the historical relationship between God and man and the Devil, which is a fascinating and I found deeply Christian response by the true (not purported) author of this little book--refusing to deal with the elephant in the room gives it all the power.
The packaging is nice, with a small format, a red (of course) ribbon to mark your place, and some pages with doodles and handwriting to give it a diary-like veritas. It is nicely sized for quick reading.
So there you go. If you find it cheap, didn't gag on the joke I gave you, and enjoy a little throne-room reading now and again, have fun.

The Devil's Diaries is a quick-read, funny in many parts--and fairly delightful to simply look at: gilt edged pages, parchment paper 'reproductions' heavily stained with...whatever it is that surrounds the Devil, rustic little drawings interspersed through the text with full-color works of art. It's a quirky, entertaining read that falls short of the greatness of Paris Out of Hand or any Griffin & Sabine books. But if you liked those--this book will certainty satisfy that 'visual' read, the enjoyment of text augmented by side-notes and one-liners, pictures, lists and charts.
Is a tiny book, just a few inches larger than those popular Moleskine books & journals that one can pocket-carry. Fittingly, it looks worn around the edges of the cover, as though long-carried and scuffed. The entire package is quite clever--and the content is too. It certainly got me thinking about how much fun the author probably had creating this little wonder--and there are plenty of truly funny parts that may make you see certain historical figures or current celebrities in a different light.
The diaries tell of the devil's trails and tribulations, as viewed from his perspective, as he struggles to build his Hell from the ground up, hire employees, encourage more wormwood experimentation as Noah prepares to build his ark... It takes us up through 2007 in a quick succession of witty entries and illustrations.
Not recommended for the rigidly religious for extremely obvious reasons.

Dieses Buch sieht auf den ersten Blick sehr seltsam aus. Sehr klein und zwischendurch mit vielen Bildern nimmt man es zu Anfang gar nicht richtig als tatsächliches Buch zum lesen war. Aber es lohnt sich definitiv dieses Buch zu lesen.
Dieses Buch ist wirklich lustig. An und für sich lese ich eigentlich gar keine Comedy-Bücher, aber dieses klang interessant und es war nicht sehr dick, weshalb ich dachte: Warum nicht?
Das Buch beschreibt das Leben des Teufels von seinem Ausstoß aus dem Himmel bis zum Jahre 2008. Dabei ist das Ganze, wie der Titel schon verrät, in Tagebucheinträgen formuliert und man lernt eine ganz neue Seite der Geschichte kennen.
Mit witzigem Humor erfährt man das Leben von Nicholas D. Satan wie er sein Unternehmen Unterwelt gründet und die Hintergründe für die einzelnen geschichtlichen bösen Taten.
Ich hab beim Lesen an einigen Stellen wirklich lachen müssen und kann es als Buch für zwischendurch wirklich empfehlen.

Meinung:
Das Tagebuch ist schön gestaltet, mit Zeichnungen, Randnotizen und teilweise scheinbar Handgeschriebenen Einträgen.
Die Geschichte wird sehr ironisch betrachtet und NEIN, der Teufel ist nicht an allem Übel der Welt schuld. Er traf sich zwar, beispielsweise mit Hitler, aber der zweite Weltkrieg passte ihm eigentlich nicht so richtig.
Die Ironie ist ganz nett und die Idee auch, aber richtig laut gelacht habe ich nicht. Schade finde ich auch, dass das Buch relativ teuer ist, dafür, dass ich es in zwei Stunden durch hatte. Und ich hatte es eigentlich nicht eilig, damit fertig zu werden.
Fazit:
Alles in allem, klein schlechtes Buch, aber auch kein Riesenreißer für mich.

Ein super-schön gestaltetes, wundervolles und vor allem unheimlich witziges Buch, angeblich vom Teufel selbst geschrieben, das einen nicht ganz so ernsten Blick auf die Geschichte der Welt aus Sicht Satans wirft. Ich konnte mit dem Lachen gar nicht mehr aufhören!
Es hat unheimlichen Spaß gemacht dieses 160 Seiten dünne Buch zu lesen und durch die wundervoll gestalteten Seiten im Pergament-Look mit ihren vielen Blutabdrücken, Skizzen, Zeichnungen und Fotos zu blättern.
Da das Buch sehr dünn ist, ist es zudem nicht nur sehr flüssig, sondern auch sehr schnell zu lesen und bietet eine willkommene Abechslung zu "normalen" Büchern. Ich kann es nur jedem empfehlen, der gerne lacht und sich selbst und die Welt vielleicht nicht ganz so ernst nimmt (oder doch?)!
