This caught me off guard. Well written short stories usually do. Emily and Wiley have a beautiful and pure friendship. This was an endearing story.

I read a quote/poem years ago and after reading this I can't stop thinking about it...

Reason, Season, or Lifetime

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you figure out which one it is,
you will know what to do for each person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON,
it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty;
to provide you with guidance and support;
to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend, and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time,
this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away.
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON,
because your turn has come to share, grow or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it. It is real. But only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons;
things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person,
and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.
It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

A very thought provoking short story on the hardness of life and the promise of heaven. Sad and touching.

I picked this really short story up because I read Nely Cab's debut novel, Creatura, and loved it.
I normally don't read too many short stories because I'm usually the novel type of person and short stories tend to underwhelm me.

This one is about a homeless man, Wiley, and a girl, Emely, he gets to know.
I can't give away anything else because the story was that short, but there was a twist to it. I liked that it wasn't too fluffly but more down to earth. There were a few sentences that were really neat, and all in all, I would say this is a good story.

The only reason why I would give this story 3 instead of 4 stars is that I guessed the twist in advance, which kind of ruined the whole point of the story.

I definetely recommend this story, though. It's a heart-warming short story, and it's a free download on smashwords.

I absolutely adored "Homeless" by Nely Cab. For such a short story, there was nothing ordinary about it. The characters of Emily and Wiley had an innocence about them that drew you in and the twist in the story wasn't something that I could have predicted in the beginning (and that's a definite plus since I have a tendency of figuring out where a story is going waaaaay sooner than I would think an author would like).

Who says a story has to be in the form of hundreds of pages? My hat's off to Nely Cab for her superb writing and for an endearingly wonderful story.

I finished this ebook five minutes ago. I can't believe it was so short because I wanted to read more.
Anyway , I loved this little story about Wiley and Emily. Their friendship is something magical and pure , I don't even know how to say it.The end was sad , but in the same time so beautiful.

''Homeless'' is definitely another amazing story written by Nely Cab which everyone should read it.

I really enjoyed this short story that the author has weaved. Without saying too much and giving it away, all I can say is that homeless Wiley forms a irreplaceable friendship with Emily, who, in the end, helps him in a way that most "real" friends could not. I recommend this short story to anyone who likes a inspirational read with a twist :)

I really enjoyed this short story by Nely Cab. It was beautifully written and you felt very connected to the characters. I didn't "figure out" the twist until right before the reveal so I always view this as a very good thing in a book. Definitely worth reading.
