In the latest erotic romance novella by Deborah Court I was expecting a light, fluffy romance with a few good sex scenes, but it's so much more! The pages turn fast as the suspense builds, and the characters turn out to be highly sympathetic, three-dimensional people caught in a perilous bind.

Jade Cameron is the dancing beauty who, as the story begins, has set her sights on giving up her virginity. Her girlfriends drag her to the premiere club for singles in New York, where she meets the enigmatic owner of the club, Alrik Larsson. Built like one of his Viking ancestors, the Swede nearly melts her on the spot with his golden curls, his broad shoulders and his icy gaze.

What saves Virgin Dancer from joining the ranks of ordinary romances, and what transforms it into something unique, is that the club owner's hidden identity draws Jade into a dangerous web of criminal enterprise. When Jade's autistic brother is introduced, it adds a further dimension to her character. And all the elements are present for a complex yet fully plausible dilemma which jeapordizes their lives as well as the developing relationship between Alrik and Jade.

I enjoyed Virgin Dancer from the first to the last page. As the sex scenes are explicit, this book is not suitable for young readers; yet I was impressed with how tasteful the scenes were and how essential to the story. The author has achieved an exquisite balance between sensual entertainment featuring real-life characters and intelligent plotting. Highly recommended.

Since my first review of one of Deborah Court's books, "Bound to the Prince", I've had the honor to get the chance to talk to her about a few things as well as review a couple of her other works. I admit that when I see an email from her, I get excited as to what it is going to include.

"Virgin Dancer" was no exception. One thing I have noticed when it comes to any form of romance or erotica, is that there are certain factors you have to include. Deborah manages to do just that in every one of her books, but she has a flair for taking the path in a unique manner. Where people are constantly talking about vampires, werewolves or shapeshifters- she introduced us to the engimatic and sexiness of elves.

In this book, we are given what many would consider a typical double life scenario for our hero. A seeming criminal who is truly a cop undercover. But instead of the typical storyline of bringing down a drug lord, we are faced with the rarely mentioned crime of human trafficking. Yet despite the darker background, we are given a hot ride as Jade finds the right man for her, a hot Swede with a heart of gold.

Few authors I have read can master the art of the word in a way where they can write a compelling enough story in a smaller package and still accomplish so much in terms of storytelling. In Deborah's case, while I wished for a longer tale, it wasn't because the story was lacking, but because I simply craved to read more of their story.

I highly recommend this latest piece by Deborah Court.

I really loved Virgin Dancer. I really appreciate you Deborah, for given me the chance to read it.

You wrote about something that is really dear to my heart. Which is autism. Since I have two children with autism, I really understood all that Caleb was going through.

I loved reading about Jade and Alrik. I really couldn't imagine being a virgin and doing what Jade did to lose my virginity. Watching all the emotions they experirnced and even though Alrik tried to fight it, it was no use.

The way that Jade changed Alrik's mind and finally made him realize that he really had no choice but to give in. I was entrapped from the first all the way to the end. Thanks for letting me enjoy another story and I can't wait to read the rest of your stories.

Deborah Court is one of my favourite writers and she never disappoints.

Virgin Dancer felt fresh and new with a gripping plot and a good deal of sensual romance. The heroine, Jade Cameron only set out to find a desirable man to help her through her first sexual encounter and certainly didn’t expect to find hot, sexy club-owner Alrik and fall in love. Alrik is so deep and powerful - oh and did I already say soooo sexy?! that for me he became the star of the novella and I couldn’t get enough of him (I wish!)

Jade is sweet and like many girls of that age, thinks she is tougher than she is. Her softer side is beautifully highlighted by her concern for her younger, autistic brother, Caleb. When Caleb’s life is placed in danger, the real tiger in Jade is revealed - and well worth seeing!

The plot is very tightly controlled and the romance is powerful and real – what more could you ask for? I read it in one sitting and it was a very satisfying read. Recommended.

Long has it been since I rushed home from work to read a book!

Now I am not a huge fan of this type of book and admittedly downloaded this on a free promo offer thinking it would just be a little bit of fun in between other books I was reading. But WOW did this story blow me away. The only gripe I have is that it wasnt long enough. I fell completely in love with the characters and the story and would have loved for the story to have opened, become more but the love story, the sexual scenes and the characters pulled me in. I read this until the very last minute before having to go to work, and couldnt help but wish time to move faster so I could get home to finish it.

Deborah Court consider me a fan! I loved this book and cant wait to read more of your books :)

Hot hot romance with a decent romantic suspense plot. The characters feel real and have emotional depth, especially Jade, who cares for her 16-year-old genius autistic brother. Alrik, the Swedish club owner, isn't what he seems to be at first, as well. (I don't want to spoil anything here) The story keeps you reading and takes some unexpected turns, while the steamy scenes are classy and extremely well written.

I loved this book. It was such an easy read and very disappointed when it ended. I wanted it to continue. I have recently become a real lover of this genre and Deborah Court just shot me to the next level! I can't wait to read other works by her. This is definitely a must read.

** Review is spoiler free - only outline **

I loved Bound To A Prince and am looking forward to Bound To Magic, so when Virgin Dancer came my way as a freebie, I didn't hesitate snatching it up. I do enjoy Deborah Court's story weaving. She has the ability to make us believe the worlds she creates.

Though a novella, the story was full of suspense, drama, and romance. Interwoven in to a full story line. I was extremely surprised as I thought originally it would be a fluffy smutty read, as most novella's are.

We have Jade, the virgin dancer, looking to give up her virginity, but not to any old guy who comes along, he has to be someone she wants to spend the night with, one time. Quite the contradiction. Then there's Alrik, the stunningly handsome viking like god/club owner/man of mystery. A definite book friend candidate.

Sparks and chemistry permeate their meeting, but alas, it'as not to be, yet...

That's where the drama and background comes in on the cast of characters. And when I say drama, I mean drama. Human trafficking and blackmail.

A definite quick read that gives a solid punch of the senses. I liked it a lot and wouldn't mind a little more from these two...one day.

** 3 stars only because it is a novella after all - but still my highest rating for novella's. :)

So many elements to enjoy are packed into this novella; it’s difficult to choose just one stand-out moment or character. Jade is beautifully described and voiced, with the right touches of sensual greed and virginal innocence, and a highly developed curiosity. Alrick reminds me of Erik in the True Blood television show (Don’t Judge!) with his arrogant demeanor and his highly sexualized and sensualized approach to the world that belies a myriad of untapped emotion and secrets.

Not only are these two characters really well placed and defined, but the tensions between the two are palpable; the sex is steamy and weaves into the story never feeling gratuitous or unnecessary – but developing the character’s connections and providing them with a feel of connectedness even in the midst of the secret that could tear them apart as it endangers them all. The addition of the trafficking, and the emotions Jade experiences with her little brother endangered all managed to add another layer of complexity to the story, without feeling contrived or unnecessary; Court manages to tightly control the plot and still develop both stories to being a satisfactory conclusion.

I received an eBook copy for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

There’s nothing about this book I can possibly say I haven’t extremely enjoyed—even the cover, in perfect syntony with the book.

The plot is captivating and everything is all well written with a right dose of suspense that I wasn’t expecting to find here at all. Jade and Alrik—who I wish I’d meet for real—are two great characters, well defined and realistic. I loved the way their relationship evolves, and let me say that sex here is something to particularly appreciate. When you read about the sex scenes—so damn good and very well described—you find they’re there for a purpose. Sex isn’t something the author added just for the pleasure of classifying the book as erotic romance or to give you a more exciting read, it is something that totally helps moving the story forward. I really loved every single page.

Deborah Court has a beautiful writing style and this book was exciting in many ways. Sensually entertaining, I highly recommend it.

I downloaded this book for free two years ago when the author gifted it to the members of the EricandSookielovers website. It was before I got a Kindle so I put it on my husband's and forgot about it. The poor man was walking around with a book entitled Virgin Dancer all this time until just the other day he asked if he could get rid of it. Men.

His question reminded me about it and I decided to dive right into it once I finished the last Cat & Bones book. And I'm so glad I didn't forget it this time around. The main hero is based on Eric Northman from True Blood (aka Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris if you live under a rock). This story is a scorcher. I devoured it in one day whenever I had free time. It has a fun FBI twist thrown in giving it more plot than just being a sexy book. Recommend to any Eric Northman fans out there!

This is a book by a new author and I enjoyed it a good deal. My rating is actually like a 3.75 but I'm rounding up because I think Ms. Court crafted a well developed, although short, story with interesting characters. The insertion of Ascobar kept it from being mundane and added an element of intrigue to the story. Very hawt too.

Deborah Court does it again. First it was an Elven warrior now a Swedish Viking like god named Alrik. Lord help me!

Jade is a 22 year old balerina who is still a virgin. She has decided for her 22nd birthday she's going to have sex. At a night club with her friends she meets Alrik the night club owner. Only he is no ordinary guy. He's a six foot four blonde Swedish Viking looking god of a man.
The story only get more intense from there.

Definitely a steamy book. Not kid friendly. ;0)

It took me far too long to finish this novella. And its was because it was such a frustrating read - and something about a hurricane Sandy or whatever. The author has potential, but reading it, you get the impression that she's trying to write the book like she thinks its should read)probably based on every other romance she's read) instead of just writing HER book. Or that she's retelling the story, maybe (there's something about the use of words/phrases like "because", "and then", "while", etc. that read like a summary)... I have great admiration for indie and self-published authors, as its something I want to explore in my own publishing career, but I see the benefit of having a publishing houses' staff on-hand to catch sometimes glaring errors (like "quieten" which is not a word and the -, combo that she used several times).
There were some issues with continuity: the robe/tight dress/robe thing, did the jacuzzi ever get turned off; Aspergers and autism aren't quite the same thing and aren't necessarily interchangeable; Was Jade always a redhead or did I just read that wrong; Nor did I get the impression from the earlier description that her family was the kind to just toss a special needs kid into a facility and leave him there.
The use of the passive voice was overdone. There were awkwardly worded sentences, and ones that were way too long and lost meaning and clarity. Some of the diction didn't work for Americans, e.g. when she asks to be let out of Ascobar's car, instead of demanding it and that "why do you wish to buy me things" line. That and the lack of contractions in their dialogue seemed unnatural.
What I did like was that Jade gained some depth in her obvious love and protectiveness of her brother. And I also liked that she was 22 years old and still a virgin, and not like some romances I've read with women in their 30s having never even kissed a man. A bit unbelievable in this day and age, unless is spiritual.
Overall, its a romance and it met all the requirements: beautiful ingenue, brooding male lead, sex, and this had the bonus of added suspense. I think it would've benefited from another read-thru or 2 and expansion into a full-length novel. There was a lot going on crammed into those 90 pages and some things didn't get fleshed out enough. I will still give her other novels a read, b/c I've heard they are better and like I said, she has potential.

I've read other books by Deborah Court and enjoyed them so I was excited to pick this on up. Unfortunately, I had a really hard time suspending my disbelief that Jade would be so in love with Alrik after one meeting that she was sure that no other man would ever excite her. The suspense was both decent and plausible but I couldn't wrap my head around the idea that they both fell in love with each other after this one meeting and it consumed them both to the point that they were pining for one another.

Virgin Dancer is not what I expected. I thought I’d get a quick erotic romance about a girl wanting to lose her virginity. But this novella is packed with suspense and danger; making it stand apart from other romance novellas. Lots more to say... my full review is posted at:
