Building Faith at Home: Why Faith at Home Must Be Your Church's #1 Priority

Rate this book
Studies show that faith lived out in the home is more influential than the Church. Unfortunately studies also show that prayer, Bible reading and faith talk are almost non-existent in most Christian families. What can be done to reestablish the home as the primary place where faith is nurtured? Start with pastors who can set the tone for the importance of family ministry throughout the church. Building Faith at Home challenges pastors to do as Mark Holmen did€”change from being a pastor who gave little attention to family ministry to being a senior pastor who has made family ministry a top priority in his church. Part of an exciting Faith at Home initiative, this book offers a vision and a practical model for how to weave family ministry into the DNA of churches. Holmen gives pastors the tools they need to consider the level of their commitment to family ministry and an integrated approach that can revolutionize their approach to this vital ministry.

This book has changed the way I view my ministry. It brings to light the absolute necessity of helping parents learn to take the responsibility of passing their faith on to their children. I have recommended this book to our pulpit minister, youth ministers and our elders.

This book basically contains the entire contents of Mark's Faith at Home book, so if you're planning to read just one, read this one.

There’s a growing movement for placing a priority on faith in our homes again instead of outsourcing it solely to churches. The author addresses reasons for this return including biblical directives and supporting statistics.

The way to build strong families, create true lasting faith in children and teens, and strengthen the church itself is by making our homes the primary place where faith is developed. The church needs to provide the support and encouragement that our homes need in order to achieve that goal.

I was afraid this book might become redundant as it progressed but the author moved from the reasons for this change into tangible, practical ways of making the change.

He used stories from his own experience as well as quotes and the experiences of others.

The author is very direct at times and holds people accountable in making this change happen, especially church leaders. He is careful to remind the reader that this isn’t solely about unintentional mistakes in the past, but it is also about the opportunity for making positive, long term changes for the family, the church, and future generations.

It is interesting that this effort is the only one he and others have begun that has experienced little to no resistance. He believes this is due to the clearly seen need for a change by parents, leaders, and the church as a whole.

He reminds the reader that this is not an overnight process but one that will take time and will hopefully last well beyond our years on earth.

So far, love what he is saying. Wondering how to implement it into the church.
