I'm not rating this just because I'm very biased and want to give Keaton a million stars because I love everything he touches, but at the same time, this is such an eccentric piece and I think I need to reread it several times and really take my time with it just for its full meaning to sink in. Keaton's art is beautiful, but very abstract.
I was just excited to get my hands on this (even if the only copy i could find is in german lol) and it will definitely be a prized possession of mine!
A heartfelt message presented through surreal illustrations in the absence of prose. Would definitely enjoy going through it again, but slower next time.
Well, that was an... act of consumption. I took this in while listening to Henson’s latest album, which seemed most appropriate. It made for a natural pairing. There’s virtually no sense of narrative here. His images are startling and raw; more than a few could be described as beautiful, and I wouldn’t mind a handful on the wall. But as a “book” this doesn’t work. More appropriate would be seeing these in a gallery in their original medium. Nonetheless, I am glad to have picked this up and spent a languid hour in absorption. It’s been too long since last I did such a thing. Without doubt, the pictures will stay with me.
I don't... I don't. What? What is this? It's beautiful, but what IS it? Can someone tell me what it is? I don't get it. I read it, and re-read it, and read it upside down. Brain attempted to form several patterns. But I cannot tell what it is. Okay, at least tell me this: are there two types of creatures? Or one? Are they all the same? Are the hairy ones different from the bald ones? Or are they all the same? Tell me that.
I just don't love books/comics without text and find that they have to try extra hard to create a coherent story. Which is what I missed here. Maybe if I took more time with the book but then again, I don't want to have to put in effort to be entertained by a graphic novel. The art style was atmospheric and really nice but other than that, I just didn't get it.
This wordless book with its strange creatures observing and engaging with the framework of life. These haunting and beautiful drawings depict a bizarre spirit world where we do not know why these spirits are there but they are actively pursuing the world they exist in.
