Think you know about gargoyles? The beautiful winged race disappeared eight hundred years ago. When they last walked the earth, they traveled in close-knit packs, their throats marked with ancient runes. Their greatest enemies were the ugly and brutal harpies that people today mistake for gargoyles.

The victim of a harpy attack at seventeen, Dare lost his wings along with his poisonous barbs. When he meets Mim, he doesn't consider himself much of a catch. But Mim is the only power that can make the broken gargoyle whole again. And when she's abducted by a harpy, he's willing to sacrifice himself for her freedom.

Which might have worked, if Mim hadn't been willing to do the same thing.

I'm in love! I'm so so so in love!
You're probably thinking I'm talking about one of the gargoyles but I'm not, I'm talking about the series because how in the heck would I just choose one to adore? My gosh, every single girl on the face of this earth needs to read these books because holy cats how can you not love them?
This book was told from Dare's POV. At first I thought I might miss not having Mim's POV but I should have known Ms. Longford wouldn't disappoint! Dare was as amazing as Valor! Maybe more so! I don't know, I cant choose! They're both so fantastic!
I love this bunch of gargoyles! They're so endearing and sweet and well...just plain lovable. From their possessive protectiveness to having no idea how to spell CPR! Best characters ever! I loved having more Scenes with Mim and Whitney and more of a glimpse into everyone's personalities in this second installment.
I was laughing out loud several times. Even if the situation itself wasn't funny I just had to crack up at some of those comments!
And I have to admit, I almost cried when I learned what Mim did for Dare. So sweet! Both instances really, since um...wow. Yeah that goes way over the call of duty there!
Ryan. :P same goes for Alexa. I didn't realize she was red at all...wonder where that'll go!
And Reason! Man, he packed a heck of a punch with his revelation towards the end of book 1 but to learn what actually happened in Texas and THAT ENDING?!?!?! I think Ms. Longford is trying to kill me.
Okay so no, it's a fantastic ending and not really even too bad of a cliffy it just left me dying to read the next book right then!
This is one of the best serieses (yes, despite what spellcheck is trying to tell me, i really do think that "serieses" is a word) I've ever read and I can't wait to see what
Ms. Longford does with these amazing characters next! Five gazillion stars!!! :DDD

When I read Valor I wanted to know when the next book would be written. Dare is that next book and continues the amazing story of the Gargoyles. What a pleasure to read - its a page-turner from the first page and leaves you just wanting more. Now I'm waiting for the next installment...

Dare was my favorite character from the first book, so I was happy to see him get his own story. This was a nice, easy, fun read. Looking forward to Reason's story!!!

This book is a lot better than the first one. I felt like it is constructed better overall and had a better flow to it. Also I think the main reason I liked this one better because I like Dare a lot better than Valor. He was a standout for me in the first book and despite not really loving the first book, I was curious about Dare and wanted to learn more about him.

I really liked that the book was in Dare's POV because that helped me understand him a little better. Dare is sweet, romantic, and moody. He's kind of an emo guy but I was feeling that. He has had a bit of a rough go of it in life so he is a little distrustful and insecure, but I enjoyed seeing him work beyond those issues. I was curious how his and Mim's relationship would pick back up because in the first book it's kind of Mackenzie playing matchmaker without either of them really being into it. Turns out that Dare has some pretty strong feelings for Mim that he has kept to himself and Mim was secretly crushing on him too.

Mim is a really sweet and hardworking girl with some insecurities of her own. I like that she too is able to work through it and see that she's someone worth Dare's affection. I liked Dare and Mim together quite a bit. I think their relationship is more believable than Mackenzie and Valor's and it isn't quite as insta-love. They are really sweet together.

These books are cute and fun. I enjoy getting to know each of the Greystone guys. Their varied personalities really keeps it fresh and exciting and the ever evolving conflict with the harpies is always interesting as well.

My thoughts:

I cannot praise The Greystone Novels enough. Taylor Longford is honestly one of the most talented new and upcoming authors that I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

I was first introduced to the idea of Gargoyles through Valor, the first book within the Greystone Novels, and it was love at first sight!

The novel was a straight 5. It had great character, plot and thematic development.

Dare...what can I possibly say about this book? Well it had me eagerly turning pages (and hoping that my burned out Nook Color could hold out till the last page, which it did). This addition is perfect with it's balance of mystery (where is Reason/where are the harpies/will Mim love Dare?), love (Mim & Dare), and paranormal goodness (hello? Gargoyles!).

Dare was the main character. And, it was a complete 360 from Mack's POV. Dare has a chip on his shoulder that has tainted his view of the World and himself. He does not see his value to his pack or to another person.Essentially, this novel tells the story of Dare and how he overcomes his crippling view of himself, and wins the love of his life.

I could not recommend this book any more, just go out and buy it!!

There should be some sort of alarm that goes off when you hit 99% on your Kindle. As I read Dare, and eagerly turned the page expecting another chapter, you can't imagine my disappointment to find that I had reached the end of the story. I wanted more! I was a huge fan of Valor, and Dare did not disappoint (well, except for the part about me wanting another chapter). This time the story is told from Dare's point of view rather than MacKenzie, which was a nice change. The story has a nice balance of mystery regarding what happened to Dare's cousin while in Texas, romance between Dare and Mim, and Ms. Longford's wonderful sense of humor.

With a pack of nine gargoyles, I am eagerly looking forward to the next seven sequels :)

I finished Valor and immediately read Dare. -In a day and 1/2. Wow, does his story pull you in! I wish i had taken longer to read it so it wouldn't have been over so fast but Reason is waiting!! I love how the author is giving each gargoyle such a distinct story yet they are all connected as family. I also love the heroines of these books and especially that they are clean. I don't have to worry over what my girls are reading.
Can't wait for more!

Awww! I was very impressed with Valor (in fact I ended up reading it more than once before the next came out) and Dare impressed me as well! The gargoyles that Ms. Longford has created are of pure genius and creativity! Although Valor is still my favorite, Dare sucked me back in and made me eager for the next book, Reason. Thank You Ms. Longford!

Yay! I was so excited when Dare's story came out - and I loved that it was told entirely from his perspective! I always like getting a glimpse into the mind of any dude, but I found Dare a particularly interesting character, even in the first book. Can't wait for more in this series!

I think I liked Valor a little more. Somehow it felt like not much was accomplished plot wise in this one though I loved reading from Dare's POV. I'm excite to see where she'll take the next book. It seems like the next one could be Reason's and he's a very interesting character. Could be fun.

Okay so YAY. I loved the first one and i loved this one! I was thoroughly excited that it was in Dare's POV i was expecting it to be in Mim's but readers we got lucky and got to see Dare's POV. So as i do with most series that i read there will be spoilers if you haven't read the first one sorry but thats the way it works otherwise i wouldn't be able to write a review so :p

Okay so the plot of this story was an extension of the first, the three cousins are still missing and Reason has yet to return. And the pack are still looking for them and things are getting a bit rocky with Mim she needs to know because Dare is pissed that she would think so harshly of them. So as Dare works through his own problems from the past as well as new problems, the story seems to really gravitate towards him. the romance maybe is a bit dim for awhile but trust me Mim is the best thing for Dare and likewise the other way around. There were parts i was holy shitting too and wow! surprises surprises. I am really happy that Taylor Longford decided to keep with the fact that Dare and Mac forged a strong friendship because it kept her active in the story so if you loved Mac and didn't want to completely part with you her you don't have to!

So Characters... i did this for the first one as well but some characters were pulled more to the front and others pushed to the back so here we go again!

Dare is actually a bit more snark-y in than he was in the first one in his own head. He seems i don't know what i wasn't expecting i guess. i don't mind really i liked that he wasn't super serious and depressing. I could tell that his past haunted him and it was hard for him to open to others but not with Mim which yay!

Mim is ridiculously sweet and there were times that i was scared she would be to timid to have some backbone but boy was i wrong she surprised me by being so strong and she really took matters into her own hands when needed, and we never got a reallly good description of her so when she got down on herself i couldn't understand why because all i got was Dare telling me she was the most beautiful girl and then herself telling everyone she wasn't that pretty and honestly i have to trust Dare a little more because i am a girl i totes understand. anyways getting away from the point here.... moving on from Mim

Defiance moved forward liked i had hoped, he is a bit of the bad boy, i can tell that he looks a little more than the others for fights but he is a pretty cool guy, there weren't a whole lot of new info about him but his unique personality shined a little more in this book.

Victor was a double edge sword and honestly i cannot wait until i get to read his story because he is a total flirt but also completely and totally insightful when he needs to be.

We know Valor and Mac, and Havoc was a little more Havoc and does anyone else sometimes just get a little bit of a gay vibe from him? or is that just me? i mean i don't care either way but yeah sometimes his odd ways seem a bit more gay then just strange... idont know that might just be me... whatever....

Okay the end....bit more of a cliffhanger than the last one i will admit that so thankfully the next one is out!

So as like before if you read my review on the first one you already know i have a blog, you didn't check it out before? what? why not? i made a perfectly good plea? well fine i will try again. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come look at my blog that i share with my friend we aren't desperate or anything.... http://theviolethourbookreviews.wordp... i knew you would check us out! i knew it! i knew it i knew it i knew it... oh you didn't well sad face....

General Series Plot: A bunch of gargoyles got trapped behind a wall (by harpies) for 800 years frozen in their stone form not being able to make the transition because they can only make it if they have access to sun light. After being discovered by MacKenzie's stepfather they are shipped to Colorado to MacKenzie's house. Most of them arrive apart from 3 whom the shipping company lost. With Mac's help, the gargoyles try to find out what happened to the other 3. Mean while each one of them finds his soul mate.

I copied this from my review on Valor cuz I want people to know how great the main plot is and why I read four books. Execution whoever? Not good at all!

In this book we learn almost nothing new about the gargoyles. It's basically book one but with Dare and Mim instead of Valor and Mac. It's told from Dare's POV. I was so looking forward to it. But it ended up being very disappointing. There was almost no action in this one. It was mostly drama, drama then some more drama, which was very boring. Mostly Dare was being a pain and rude and whiny all the time. There was no description of how he fell in love with Mim, or how she fell for him. Actually we do not learn anything new about Mim in this book. It's like she is barely in it. And that would've been ok if there was at least some good action scenes but no! Nothing exciting happened. And by the time they actually got together he was like: "Oh how could you love me, I'm ugly, I look old!" And she was like: "Oh you don't really love me, my mom is prettier than me, what could you see in me?" Yes please tell us what you see in each other. LOVE IS NOT ABOUT LOOKS!!!! SO STOP TREATING YOURSELVES AS OBJECTS AND NOT SEEING EACH OTHER AS REAL PEOPLE WITH SELF-RESPECT AND DIGNITY!!! Sheesh!!!

Content: very minor violence, some cuss words, few kissing scenes but in general it felt more sensual than anyone under 16 should read about. (Warning: book 4 leans more toward the erotic side).

Another fantastic read. It kept me up at night and I flew through it.

I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as Valor and I can't even put my finger on why. I think it may have been that I like MacKenzie a little more than Mim. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with Mim, she's a sweetheart. It's just MacKenzie has more spunk and I really liked her love story with Valor.

I like the way the story is told from Dare's POV. It was a nice change up to have a male character telling the story... and his story is a good one. Out of all the gargoyles he's suffered the most and it was great to see behind the veil a little more.

The ending was awesome and I can't WAIT to start Reason (Book 3 in the series). I love the way Taylor Longford has made each story an individual tale, but has kept a thread of mystery running throughout the series. I want to know what's happened to the missing gargoyles. I love the way these brothers and cousins care for one another and their protective instincts are awesome.

The history of the harpies is really cool too and I'm hoping she will expand more on their story as the books progress. I guess I'll have to wait and see :D

All in all, a fantastic read and anyone who enjoyed Valor will no doubt enjoy this book too.

4.5 stars from me :)

Taylor Longford continues her Greystone saga with Dare, a tale of gargoyles and their introduction to the modern life of TVs and the internet.

Enclosed in a British building, turned to stone, and unable to reach sunlight to return to their normal selves, the gargoyle brothers are discovered and sent to Colorado. Valor is the first gargoyle to touch sunlight and becomes a living, breathing young man who falls for a modern teenager.

When his brothers arrive in their stone form, they also transform and follow Valor’s transition from the days of the horse and buggy to cell phones, computers, and EBay.

Valor’s brother Dare continues this storyline. His past dogs his footsteps after a severe injury curtails his existence as a gargoyle. Without any expectation of healing, Dare isn't optimist about modern life. But he finds a soul mate who thinks differently and the journey to recovery is remarkable.

This series continues to excel, a great addition to my library. I love the unique storyline connecting the Brothers Gargoyle by telling their individual stories and personalities.

Don’t miss this tale of mythical creatures like you’ve never seen before. It does not disappoint.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
3.5 stars — Dare was a bit frustrating. This was a good followup book to Valor, and continues on with the hijinks of the gargoyles, giving just a little bit more for each of the story lines (Reason’s absence, the missing cousins), enough to tempt the palate but leave you wanting more. And normally I LOVE reading boy POV books….and I did enjoy Dare. But he could be quite selfish and frustrating at times, and so it wasn’t all roses. I think the book would have benefited from a multi POV, including a bit of Mim’s inner dialogue…b/c I guess in the end I feel like I didn’t get to know her well enough. So an enjoyable read, but not as strong as Valor IMO.

ON REREAD:
3.75 stars — Pretty much the same feelings as above, but I think because I remember being frustrated with Dare, I was inherently less frustrated…like it didn’t come out of nowhere. And maybe I tried to understand how his past had shaped him, and that made me understand it a bit more. Don’t get me wrong, he was still a bit of a dick, but people aren’t perfect.

Definitely wished we had more from Mim. Still disappointed, b/c I really do feel like I don’t know who she is that well. Ah well.

This is, by far, my favorite Greystone novel. Dare's history is so tragic that it's hard not to love him and cheer for him, especially when he wins Mim's heart. He needed her because she heals him.

Once again, Ms. Longford presents us with a very well-written novel and an intriguing story. Even though Dare is negative about everything and always blaming himself for everything that has happened to his brothers and his cousins, he is still a lovable character that the reader can sympathize/empathize with.

All in all, this book is an excellent read, and a quick one if you don't especially get a lot of time to read.

I was a fan of Dare from the first book Valor! I was so happy to read his story! After losing his wings Dare doesn't see himself as much of anything. Until he meets Mim, she has a way of changing him!
When Mim is taken by the enemy of the gargoyles, a harpy, Dare will do anything to get her back. Including giving himself up, what he didn't know was that Mim would do the same for him.
Taylor writes in a style that is easy to read and flows well. I'm totally in with the gargoyle crowd now! Looking forward to the next book.

I finished reading Valor and immediately bought Dare. If it's possible, I think I enjoyed Dare even more then Valor. Seeing Dare fleshed out, with his pain and history was great(not the pain, the depth of his character). I loved the mystery surrounding the missing gargoyles and the harpies. I'm dying to continue the stories of all of the gargoyles and find out what's become of the last three gargoyles. Anxiously waiting for series to continue!

It's been awhile since I read the first book in the series called "Valor" and this one was told from the perspective of Dare.

I like the way the author writes and portrays her characters. It was nice to get into Dare's heads and read about the scenes through his eyes.

I've been a fan of this series from the beginning and this one did not disappoint.
