Learning from Jesus: A Spiritual Formation Guide

Rate this book
Become a Student of the Master To Christians, Jesus is many the Son of God, the pivotal figure in whom we put our trust and who speaks on our behalf, a companion in the life of faith. But Jesus is also an incredible example of how to lead a faithful life. Jesus, as a human, walked on earth and confronted the same struggles that we face. Our primary mission as his followers is to learn from him -- to become his apprentices. In this book we seek to further our apprenticeship by studying everything from Jesus's interactions with those around him to the revolutionary wisdom recorded in the Gospels. Learning from Jesus is conveniently organized for individual or group study, and each section of this guide leads you further down the path to true discipleship.

This Renovare resource book helps us to become closer to God in our contemplation and actions without becoming legalistic. Practicing being in the presence of God through prayer, scripture, contemplation and community helps us to be aware of God's love and abundant grace.

I read 6 of 12 chapters in this book in a group study at church. There was no new info for me or enlightening ways of thinking about old things but it provided some good "jumping off" places for group discussion. I didn't know the people in my group and this provided fodder for the conversations. I wouldn't want to use this book in a group of friends I already know well - would be boring, I think.
