In this story, Lucy is engaged to the Jack's brother, and she starts off with a healthy dislike of him based on what Samuel has told her about his brother. Jack was rude and cocky toward Lucy. So there was an underlying dislike and animosity between them, but I never felt any sexual tension or desire between them as a couple.

As the shipwrecked survivors gather to asses what they can salvage for supplies, Jack uses the opportunity to get Lucy alone.
I had a real problem with the initial sexual encounter between Jack and Lucy because it wasn't dubcon and it wasn't a 'forced seduction', it really was rape. Lucy was overpowered and struggling, and there was no consent at all from her. That was a very unpleasant scene, it was not sexy at all to me.
However, the book did improve once they met the Sirens at the healing pool.

Two stars, just barely - The initial rape scene was a poor start and the rest of the book had to work hard to make up for getting off on the wrong foot. I am curious about the Sirens of Siren Island, and I'm interested in learning more about how they got there, etc. Overall it can be an OK read if you know what you are getting into.
Initially I was reluctant to continue the series, but my curiosity about the Sirens tipped the scales, lol. I will continue to read on the series, as perhaps now that the initial scene between Jack and Lucy is over, things will improve in the story. Who knows, maybe her fiancé Samuel survived the shipwreck and will return to her?
