Dudes Down Under

Rate this book
It is a secluded island of dreams, of peace, of passion, out by the Great Barrier Reef, and the first visitors to the newly-opened 'Dudes Down Under' are Hollywood 'A' listers intent on luxuriating with their lovers in a secret location away from prying eyes.

Paradise.

OK, so also in residence are a talk show host, several of their ex-wives and an alcoholic twenty-eight foot crocodile with attitude called Cyril.

He-he!

But what could really go wrong?

Love is in the air.

Isn't it?

Well it could be something else ...

This book had me in hysterics laugh out loud ones, and also had me in tears felt like part of the family and thoroughly loved it so much so that I read it in less than 24 hours

Dudes Down Under is about a getaway for the rich and famous in Australia. They are given a chance to be themselves away from paparazzi and rabid fans. We get to watch drama unfold and romance blossom “down under”.

There were a lot of interesting characters of varying personalities in this book, but I wished for more background on them. I feel if I had more of that I would have felt more connected to the characters. My favorite parts of the book involved the character Cyril, the resort’s resident crocodile. I really liked how the author gives insight to his thoughts. This pampered crocodile was pretty humorous.

I also wish the story was conveyed with a little more order. The characters interact and their lives intersect but at times the writing seemed a little chaotic. I also wish that the romances between the characters were more developed, I would have been happier with fewer characters with more story substance. The setting for me was a big positive; the story takes place is an island off the mainland of Australia and Burke described it beautifully. The drama of the storm had me on the edge of my seat.

Issues aside, I really liked the whole concept of the book. I am a huge fan of humor and romance. I would give Burke’s future books a try.

This book is fun, light and easy to read! The mixture of characters who all come together on an exclusive resort on an island off Queensland’s coast on the Great Barrier Reef, make for a great blend of humour, romance, intrigue and mayhem.

When Lucy decided to build a resort to house the famous, the elite, and the extremely wealthy, she went all out! The resulting ‘Dudes Down Under’ was born, and to be eligible to holiday there, the guests had to win a special lottery. The resort was staffed by Aussies well versed in the privacy of their guests, and they knew how to keep them happy. Also resident was Cyril, the tame and almost ‘human’ crocodile!

With the guests getting to know one another as they eased into their month long stay, some good and some bad experiences were bound to happen…with ex-spouses also on the island, anger flared. But when a cyclone headed for them, how much danger would they be in…would they be safe? Had Lucy built her resort to withstand the violence of a North Queensland cyclone?

I thought the interaction with Cyril throughout the book was slightly overdone, and the almost instant romances rather quick! But all in all, I enjoyed the book with a little bit of drama to add to the enjoyment!

Dudes Down Under was not what I expected but so much better.

Cyril, who loves beer and Sadie, who loves girly mixed drinks were terrific characters and just think they are expecting forty-eight babies and can talk to each other. They were hilariousness (of course a total fantasy but still made me giggle), especially about their fashion style, favorite songs and movies and movie star worship.

The setting was described in detail, so if you have never been to that area of the world, it was easy to picture how nice it was. The cast of characters were all fun but no one was a real bad guy and they all made changes for the better toward the end.

Skeets was one of the most interesting characters and it would be nice to have more story about him and Bec. A hot guy with a nickname that is short for mosquitoes has to have a good story to tell. Plus Cyril loves him and so that would keep the two crocs in the next story.

The Australian slang was another fun part of Dudes Down Under that I enjoyed. If you want a funny, light read, I think this is a good one.

This book was great! It was exciting and full of drama. It was great that celebs got a chance to be regular people for a little. And the changes these people went though, amazing. I love LOVE Cyril. He is so funny! And a crocodile! He wears clothes, drinks all the time and has a Pooh bear to sleep with. And he would say the funniest things!! I don't mean funny jokes, i mean funny like he sees his trainer/owner naked once and freaks out because he (the trainer) has an ugly growth that he should get removed.
I love that we hopped around to different people's point of view. We got to see how the staff saw the celebs and how the celebs saw the stuff and the others. We even got to see how the crocos saw the people.

The story is good. SOMEtimes the crocodile is a little (way) overdone. The power of a good editor should not be ignored. Keep writing.
