I really enjoyed the first book in this series. It had all the right elements to appeal to the teenage girl in me: danger, romance, mystery! But it ended so nicely, I didn't know how there could be a sequel. Still, I was willing to try the next one out...

And couldn't finish.

I made it about 1/3 of the way in, and with every chapter I was looking for a story building conflict. Tasmyn had a lot of things going on: moping, crying, missing her boyfriend, but what she didn't have was a driving plot. It wasn't until about 25% of the way in that I started to find a hint of trouble--the kind that might actually carry the story. And then when she made a really poor decision for a motive I couldn't substantiate, I had to stop. Usually I'm okay with pressing on even when the protagonist makes an unwise decision, but combined with the earlier lack of plot building and her conscious acknowledgement that it was a bad choice, I knew I was going to end up frustrated for the duration of the book. So I stopped.

Who knows? It might redeem itself shortly after I quit. Tawdra Kandle has a great story voice, and I really did enjoy the first book, but I couldn't push forward on this one.

Breathless is Right!

One would think that a girl with a great group of friends and a loving and supportive boyfriend would be having the time of her life during her Senior year in high school. But alas, not so much. Michael has gone off to college leaving Tasmyn to deal with the group of girls that tried to make her life a living hell – literally – the previous year. On top of that she has gained the unwanted attention of the hot new guy at school whom she discovers is not a normal guy – he has gifts too and has no qualms about using them. Tasmyn has spent her whole life keeping her gift of hearing thoughts a secret and it seems that more and more people have found out about it and her life is quickly spiraling out of her control.

Mean girls in high schools are almost a given, but mean girls that practice witchcraft and can jump into you’re your dreams, coupled with being blackmailed by her Chemistry teacher, also a witch, is enough to make anyone want to run away and hide. Oh, did I mention that Tasmyn’s friend’s father – a preacher – is suspicious of her, thinks she is worshiping the devil, and then tries to get her to repent? Yeah, Tasmyn has her hands full in this book – it’s well-written, action-packed, and a super fast read. I loved it!

I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The focus of this episode of the King Quartet is primarily on Tasmyn and the choices she has to make without Michael close by. This is a tale filled with some not-so-typical HS drama including several paranormal twists, a bit of heartache and angst, a touch or two of intense drama, interwoven with a fascinating supernatural element that makes for an intriguing story. Tasmyn has her hands full not only coping with her separation from Michael but having to deal with several individuals who are showing persistent interest in her, all with their own personal agendas. It’s an engaging, fast-paced read that is sure to hold your interest from start to finish. And although it ends on a high note, there’s more to come that is sure to keep you spellbound until all the questions are answered and we, hopefully, see Tasmyn and Michael get their HEA(?). 😉

I was really looking forward to read the second book. However, the plot when the wrong way for me. The introduction of new characters made it predictable. The main love story seems to be about to fall apart, which for me is the glue to the series. The main character develops into a total different persona. The cliff hanger at the end made me not wanted to read the rest. I feel it is too predictable, It looses It'appeal. I going to eventually ready the 3rd book. But I never know, I can still be surprise. When I read a series I can't wait for the next book but with this one, I feel I can wait to read the next book. I just hope when I do, it will be back to the exacting, less predictable story. I really would give a chance.

I love the first book in this series this not so much. It wasn't so bad I couldn't finish but geez the amount of teenage angst was too much for me. It got better towards the end but the decisions that the main character made was just flippin' unreal. And after so much talk about keeping her talent/gift a secret she seems to be telling a lot of people now. Now that one I couldn't follow very well. Supposedly she had so much experience explaining things away now she just tells everyone. I just didn't like that especially she tells some guy that she really doesn't like and basically abused her trust. Nope. Not a realistic storyline in my book.

It's been a while since I read book 1, but the author did a great job of catching me up to speed. And because the world is already set, I think I liked this book better than the first. The main conflict of the story is Tas getting her feet under her after the events of Fearless and adjusting to life with Michael away at college. Tas and Michael are still on solid ground, but I liked that Tas was able to figure some things out on her own. I never warmed to "new guy", and I'm worried about how he fits into their circle of friends. And I'm happy that she has discovered a few other people who may have abilities like her own. I hope that turns into something she can learn from in the future.

This was a great extension to the story from the first book. It was inclusive enough that you knew it was a sequel, but the plot played out well enough to stand on its own.
The interesting thing with this installment is that as the reader, you are never quite sure who the villain is. There are at least three people who would fit quite nicely into that role. And all three of them have their moments.
The ending was a refreshing surprise. I'm interested to see where things go from here.
And the Epilogue... definitely intrigued by the new girl. Who is she? Where does she come from? What are her powers (you know she's got powers!).

Wow! Another good read. Tasmyn again almost got exposed and this time, was almost drowned. I'm glad she was able to get out of that predicament. But what about Marica the Chem. teacher? Is she friend or foe? I'm still undecided at the moment. Two more books to go. Lets see."

Second Book in this series

I finally realized this is a very good author, but a little too teenager for me!
Fascinating topic involving unusual events and qualities, with the magic history behind King Florida.
Some disturbing visuals and a little horror!

She's a dummy. Reverend Pryce has some serious issues that he needs to take care of. This insecurity she has with her man is hella annoying. The Reverends daughter needs a beat down, when did Michael show her ANY type of anything?

I read Fearless (book one in the King Series) as one of my first book reviews. I had not read many stories about people with psychological supernatural abilities or about witches in general. I found the first book to be wonderfully written and pleasantly surprised by Tawdra's ability to maintain a PG 13 (approximately) novel that also included supernatural elements. I have to say that Breathless is written just as well. The story is one that shows what happens at the start of senior year for Tasmyn when her boyfriend (and assumed future husband) Michael goes off to college four hours away. Michael is Tasmyn's first boyfriend and Michael's family has this wonderful trait of the men falling instantly in love with one and only one woman in their entire life. This makes it appear that having a long distance relationship will be easier because Tasmyn and Michael both feel this deep trust that the other will be waiting for them to either come home or graduate and go to college as well. Unfortunately, Tasmyn takes Michael's departure so hard she practically turns comatose.

Once the initial disaster of being alone passes, Tasmyn moves on to starting her senior year. She meets a new guy who is desperately interested in her and has a unique ability much like Tasmyn's mind-hearing ability. No they don't end up together. I will spare you thinking that Tasmyn walks off with another man. However, Rafe (the new guy) does create some interesting situations and even saves Tasmyn's life towards the end. Tasmyn loses a lot of friends in this book because of them going off to college and because of her latest enemy. What is surprising is that Nell, the murderous witch from book one, turns up again and again to help Tasmyn. You will be surprised at how that turns out. I know I was. I was also a little disappointed with how unwilling Tasmyn was to accept Nell's help. My biggest disappointment was her ignoring Nell's final warning and instead walks right into the arms (or classroom) of the enemy while not telling Michael of her choice. That is definitely going to cause problems in book three.

Overall I found the book easy to read and pretty enjoyable as well. I still found myself wondering if the Tasmyn and Michael would make it past second base, but even though I knew they wouldn't, I was still happy to see that they kept to their moral beliefs. Another great book by Tawdra Kandle.

This book had some formatting problems (after a certain point the font changes and everything looks like it is bolded) but that wasn't really a problem.

Story itself is still good and progresses in the same fashion as the first book - you basically follow Tas an learn everything she does. The book only covers a few months, but Tasmyn is pretty much constantly an emotional wreck. Besides Michael leaving, she is dealing with mysterious new comer Rafe, Cara and her religious fanatic father, a creepy dream version of Nell and the always strange Marcia.

Pros
- get to see pretty much all of the characters, even a bit about those who have graduated already
- well written, detailed, and accounts for pretty much everything (not really left wondering about anything)
- contains great elements: magic, romance, mystery, crazy people

Notable hesitations about the book:
- with the exception of Tasmyn, Cara, Rev. Pryce, and MAYBE Rafe, I don't feel like characters are realistic. Everyone was soooo understanding and kind. Everyone just happens to listen to and believe Tasmyn. Granted she's been a great person up until recently but still.
- Tasmyn's decision were enough to drive me up the wall. Though, I suppose in many ways this goes back to her being a realistic character - she does things that are questionable and selfish.

Cons
- nothing really new to the book: characters and their personalities are the same. Even the villain(s) are the same. Although Rafe is a new character he is so briefly in the book it doesn't make much of a difference.
- like the last book, things are tied up TOO easily. Everything is very conveniently accounted for and the same characters are coming to the rescue.

I do have high hopes for the rest of the series and do want to see where everything goes. I hope that the author doesn't just write certain characters off in such an abrupt fashion, however I'm sure she has a vision for her characters so I'll just keep my fingers crossed!

Awhile back I had the lovely chance to review Fearless by Tawdra Kandle. This story is the first in the King series, and I highly recommend it be read prior to Breathless. Be forewarned that my review below will contain spoilers of the first book, so continue reading at your own risk!

Breathless picks up at the end of summer vacation. Tas and Michael are about to embark on the biggest challenge their relationship has ever faced, even more challenging than when Nell tried to kill them both that fateful night in the clearing. The young couple is being separated as Michael is heading off to college while Tas remains to start her senior year of school. Can the couple make it, being hours apart, and having only the telephone for communication?

But all is not well within King. The strangeness begins when Tas begins to have dreams of Nell. However, the dreams are not of the past, but Nell is warning her to stay away from their old Chemistry teacher. Should she heed the warnings of her dreams? Or is Tas having these dreams as a way of making sense of what happened?

I will always have a soft-spot for this series, and I hope to be able to follow it all the way through to its end. Tawdra has a way with developing her characters, and if you didn't read my review of Fearless, please do as I touch on it in my interview with her. Breathless was much like a stepping stone. It had its own story, but it answered a lot of questions and background that remained from Fearless. Of course it also left some new questions, but the kind that leaves you craving the next book.

I look forward to following Tas, Michael, and their families along with the new addition of Rafe. Ms. Lacusta is another character that I'm dying to see unfold. Is she really good, like Tas, or is there still a sinister side we have yet to really see? I also doubt we've seen the last of my favorite crazy villain, Nell.

I am feeling very frustrated with Tas by the end of this book. She has such great people around her (her parents, Michael's parents, new friend Amber) yet she seems to make the 'wrong' choices. **Potential SPOILER** Even Nell is sort of being nice and trying to warn her and Tas isn't listening.

Also my high hopes of making it through the series without having a sex scene to deal with are rapidly diminishing. Tas and Michael have decided to wait for sex but every time they get together I am afraid that they will slip up (and I will have to deal with a sex scene in a young adult novel) since they are not really waiting because it is the "right" thing to do but because they want it to be "right" for them when they finally decide to spend the night together. Reading that the author loves "hot love scenes" didn't help either.

I purchased the King series as a set because it cost just a little more than "Breathless" alone but with my current frustration with Tas and concern over potential sex in the remaining books, I am not really that eager to read the remaining two books. The set does include "Hopeless - A Rafe short" which sounds intriguing. Rafe is an interesting character although I imagine he won't have any problem with some sex scenes based on what he pulled on Tas in "Breathless".

I was so happy to finally have the time to read this book. I've been anxious to see what happens next with Tasmyn and Michael. This book was full of adventure and drama like the first one.

I knew that her chemistry teacher wouldn't give up that easily. She was determined to get her hands on Tasmyn and her gift. The Reverend was just as determined to Tasmyn get rid of the evil within her. Forget the fact that the Reverend is the only one that thinks she's evil.

Tasymn is a senior in high school now. It's suppose to be the time of her life. She had to adjust to Michael being away at school and all kinds of other crazy things.

Personally I'd of asked my parents to let me change schools after everything that happened the previous year in the first book Fearless. I can't wait to read the next book Restless.

The author not only writes so vividly that you feel like you are part of the story, she is also an amazing person. I'm proud to be able to say she's a friend of mine.

Breathless starts from where Fearless ended. And a note of caution for those who haven’t read Fearless. You must read it before reading this one as this book does not act as a standalone and you are better off knowing what happened in the first book.

I will confess that I liked this one more than the first. It has the right mixture of everything. And though it is a bit slow for my thrill loving mind, it has a lot going for it. There isn’t a single boring moment in there. As the title signifies, the book leaves you breathless.

Engaging and riveting, this book makes for a nice fast pace read.

Although I wish this was one huge book instead of having to wait for the next one in the series. *sigh*

Tawdra, I am not reading the chapter for Restless after the book ends, it’s too painful to have to read it without the whole book. *wink wink* Are you getting me?

****Warning! Contains Spoilers!*****

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Tasmyn Vaughn's senior year in high school is far from typical but that may be because she, herself, is not a typical girl. The only thing normal about her senior year is her longing to be with her one true love, Michael.

Plagued by nightmares of a girl in a straight jacket, black-mailed by her instructor and the object of a new student's attention who seems suspicious; Tasmyn Vaughn really should have just skipped her senior year and stayed in bed. But, I'm really glad she didn't because that would have been boring.

This story was anything but dull! The dialogue was still a little lengthy in some places but otherwise entertaining and informative. Once again Tawdra Kandle was put together a fun read!

Well I got Breathless free but when I started to read it I couldn't get in to it and then realised there was a book before it, so I bought the first one read that then this one. Iv got to say I enjoyed the first book the most, both books where good just not fantastic, they had romance and supernatural but I didn't feel caught up in the story, I got bored at parts and felt that it didn't have as much excitement as other books iv read. I did enjoy them enough that if I could I would have given it a 3.5 rather than a 3, I wont be buying the 3rd one, I just didn't feel like I need to find out what happens to them. Iv read many books that I have been desperate for the next one but not with these books, Like I said a good read but not the best.

An excellent sequel to the first book in this series. You are once again back in King with Tasmyn who no longer is the new girl but still trying to fit in. You feel her heartbreak at being apart from her boyfriend who has gone to college and after the disaster in the first book her fear of trust. She desperately just wants to be normal and fit in. I liked the down to earth character and her good heart won me over once again in this book. Some excitement towards the end that turns the story into a thriller and I'm definitely looking forward to the next segment.

so, we're back with Tas and Michael, for another adventure, although Michael will be disappearing to college, so Tas is gonna be flying solo, with Amber and Cara of course :) and newcomer Rafe ;)

Tas struggles at first with having Michael so far away, and pretty soon, its pretty obvious that cara has an interest in Michael ....
I should also say that Nell is back, to some degree... cryptic huh?! The biggest thing for Tas is being blackmailed by Ms. Lacusta to study with her. This can only spell trouble (get it??!) and its pretty big trouble.. but we do get to explore a little more of what Tas is capable of.
I;m saying nothing more, you'll have to read it :)

I really do like this series so far. There are some real challenges they face and I must say that they do make some good choices in the end. I really hate it when the heroine runs off to conquer the world by herself and doesn't tell anyone. In this story she does think about doing just that and then becomes a bit smarter thankfully. I like our new character.

Since I believe sex should be after marriage, I do appreciate that they discuss it as a decision you make in advance and not in the heat of the moment. I am glad they have chosen to keep that out of the story so far.

It does end in a bit of a cliff hanger. Not bad, just enough to make you want to read the next one.

I was good although a tad slow and even if I like the characters, which I do, I feel that they are a bit predictable, Michael is too good to be true, and Tas is too insecure, she was all pretty-without-knowing-it stuff, and if in the first book Tas was insecure now is tenfold, Michael is at College now, so Tas is doing her senior year alone, and she is sooooo dramatic about the fact that Michael is away is like he is going to die or suffer torture or something, so stupid. The plot it's pretty simple in this book, so in between action is was pretty boring.

I hope the next book is better.

I jumped into this novel directly following my devouring the first in this series, and it took me a bit to really get into this storyline. Several times I set my tablet down thinking I was going in circles... but there was something that pulled me back, and I'm glad I listened to that "something".

I finally understood the "chatter", as I stated in my last review. Tazmyn has a gift for more than just mind reading; she feels deeply, which might get her into trouble. The introduction of Rafe intrigues me, and I'm interested to see where life in King goes from here.

Breathless is book number 2 in the King Series. I mistakenly read it first. The three books should be read in order. By reading this first, I did miss some of the initial relationship between Michael and Tas, but I was not lost. I really enjoyed the story and the suspense. I had to purchase the first book, Fearless, and finish Tas' story with the third book, Restless. All three were wonderful. I could not put them down!

WOW....that was such a great read, just wish it was longer. Tasmyn is frustrating me. She has it so good with such an amazing man that loves her so much and a family that do as well what the heck is she thinking.....ugh! With that said, I love love this series. So glad I started this series. So many things are more clear to me now. Great characters and story! Tawdra, you have captured my attention and I am a fan!!! Keep them coming.

Not as good a story as the first one, but it did keep me hooked until the very end. There were quite a few grammatical errors and missing words, more than the first book, hence the rating of 4 stars. I am *obsessed* with these books! This one hurt my head in that it revolved around her keeping secrets from everyone (even Michael). I spent most of the book waiting for the impending realization that she's keeping secrets, which never really came. I guess I was just expecting your typical paranormal romance situation, but I should know better by now. I heart these books.
