Wow I had no idea until the very end.

A brilliant piece of work. About the time you think that you have an idea about the plot of changes. I loved this series!

Kidnapped by the Malbourn and losing her beloved, the third book follows LIanne as she tries to stop everyone from using magic to save the world. LIanne is now safe thanks to Chase and his family and his Malbourn friend but she’s not over her troubles. She has been moved to where Chase’s family lives by his magic and starts discovering things about the people around her. The Malbourn are still regrouping after their defeat at her hands and decide to send a message to Chase and Lianne that leaves Lianne wondering if Chase is truly interested in her. Meanwhile, she is communicating with Eloh, the goddess, whose guidance is puzzling her.

She discovers the secret village where the people she has been seeking are. There she finds Mags, the queen, and her young son whose minds have been severed via a spell to remove potential magic and past memories. They agree to help out as well as Lianne’s mother whose mind has also been wiped and who she thought she’d never see her again. But she doesn’t know this and believes that her mother is the person she is seeking and soon begins to visit them secretly in order to try and get them to remember so they can help her.

She meets Wren, the little girl who doesn’t have a voice, and speaks to her to the surprise of everyone else and she is left pondering as she prepares for the final task of severing everyone so that the world can be become a better place. Nothing goes as planned, as she knows from her past, and she discovers that she has been seeking the wrong person while the person she needs is right in front of her.

The third book of this trilogy sees this part of the saga come to an end and I wasn’t happy with one thing in particular. There is a love triangle of sorts again in this book, with Chase in the center as he loves LIanne and his Malbourn friend that we learn when she dies. Please! Stop using a love triangle as part of a continuing theme. I was so tired of this after the second book and to see it used again when Chase tells Lianne he has been seeing her in his visions and drawing pictures so that he had a constant remainder of her made it clear to my mind that he had only eyes for her in the previous book and he was drawing her still. So I don’t get why we needed a love triangle. I have to give this book 3 couples as I didn’t enjoy it as much but I would say that If you have been following this series you don’t want miss reading it.

Little did I know when I first picked up Anathema what an amazing journey this would turn out to be. Megg Jensen had me hooked as soon as I picked up the first book in the Cloud Profit Trilogy and I haven’t looked back. The other books that make up the first trilogy are Oubliette and Severed. The Sundering is the last book in her Swarm Trilogy. The other books that make up the rest of that trilogy are Afterlife and Sleepers. Imagine how excited I was when the release of the novella, The Initiate managed to tie both trilogies together. Sneaky, sneaky authors!

The Sundering takes up where Afterlife left off. Lianne is trying to mentally recover from the tragedies she survived in Afterlife. She basically lost her best friend and the man she loved. A man that died trying to save her. Not only that, but she had to come to terms with the fact that he was killed by her mother who was trying to kill her at the time. No wonder she isn’t exactly in a happy place when we first see her in The Sundering. The fact that she’s feared by almost everyone doesn’t help. The one bright spot in her existence is Chase, and she spends most of her waking hours trying to push even him away. She has a lot to come to terms with.

I loved how patient Chase was with Lianne. He doesn’t baby her, he wants to protect her but he gives her the space she needs. Yet, when enough is enough he backs off. Although Lianne spends a lot of time basically feeling sorry for herself, she never totally crumbles. She doesn’t bow to what everyone assumes she must do, she tries to find another way.

There were things that left me wanting more in The Sundering, but I’m going to chalk that up to the fact that I wasn’t ready for this series of books to come to an end. There were things that Lianne did that made me shake my head, but there were reasons why she did them and it’s easy to judge from the outside looking in. Once you read The Sundering, I think you’ll understand and you’ll have to come to your own conclusions. I also felt that the ending was a little rushed. Again, that is probably because I just wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the characters and world that Megg Jensen created in The Song of Eloh Saga (the name of the entire series of the two trilogies and novella combined.) Basically, this book brought the series to a satisfying conclusion and that’s pretty much all we can ask for.

Lianne, has defeated the Malborn once, but she knows they will be back. People fear her, but she doesn't fear death. Bryden is dead. With him gone, Lianne has lost meaning in life. If she believed it would reunite her with Bryden, she would have committed suicide. As it is, Lianne is stuck in an emotional void. Her emotions are intense and really come off the page. I could feel the hollowness in Lianne's heart along with the great sorrow she feels over losing her loved one. As though matters couldn't be worse, the physical changes with her loss of color in her eyes and hair remind her constantly of her loss, and she must pretend to be with another guy to protect herself.

It isn't as though Chase is a bad guy. He's sweet and caring. A bit pushy at times, yes, but he always acts with Lianne's better interest at heart. With him supporting her, Lianne is able to come out of her shell and again interact with the world around her. She'll never have a love again like the one with Bryden, but she now has a chance to start a new love. And Chase is there for the healing Lianne.

Even as she heals, Lianne must find a way to counteract the Malborn, who haven't given up. Despite having had her heart torn to pieces, Lianne is a stubborn girl. She puts her all into all she does, and she'll fight to the death to defend what she believes in. She doesn't fight against the Malborn through normal means. Instead, she wants to find a way to keep them from ever attempting to come back again. I adore this stubborn side to her personality.

The Sundering is a easy, quick fantasy read filled with emotion and characters that catch onto your heart.

Taken from my blog:

First things first: this cover is amazing! Absolutely stunning, as a matter of fact the entire series has beautiful covers. Once you read this one the cover will make complete sense… when I read the first two I could not understand why the third book is completely different but it all comes together

In the third and final book of The Swarm Trilogy, Lianne is a completely different person. The Malborn were somewhat defeated but Lianne also lost the love of her life in the process. She is now with Chase in his homeland, struggling through depression. The calmness doesn’t last for long though and Lianne is suddenly caught up with trying to come to terms with her past, the new secrets she is learning about and the boy who loves her more than himself.

I loved The Sundering! It was actually my favorite of the three. Lianne’s personal struggle with Bryan’s death was so emotional and raw and Megg Jensen did a great job of making you also feel Lianne’s emotions. My favorite character was Chase, again. I just loved him since the beginning. He loves Lianne so much and will do absolutely anything for her. I also loved how we got to see quite a bit of Chase’s family, his father was so kind and his mother harsh and cold.

The ending was very satisfying. I hate when at the end of a series it feels like a waste of time to have read three books and been disappointed: this was not the case. All of the questions are answered and you feel complete with reading it. My only qualm is that it is over! I really enjoyed this magical series, now I’m going to have to read The Cloud Prophet trilogy to get some more of this enchanted story

If you haven’t read this series yet, you’ve got to pick it up! It’s just an easy to read series… you get tugged into the story straight away.

The Sundering is the third in the Swarm Trilogy and the last in the Song of Eloh saga and honestly, I didn’t expect I would love this so much. I was, actually, having second thoughts about Lianne's effectivity as a heroine in the first book, Sleepers. It was a bit hard for me to connect to her character because she's illogical sometimes.

But after I read the second book, Afterlife, it was clear to me that she doesn't do what she's supposed to do. She's stubborn and impulsive and unpredictable. She's definitely different than any other heroine. And her character slowly grows on me.

In this third book, she totally proved to me that I shouldn't underestimated her in the beginning. Her boldness was unbelievable. I didn't expect she would make such a big decision like that. She sticks to what she believed in and do what she think is best. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I admire her for that.

The ending was surprising! Hard decisions and sacrifices were made just to achieve the peace that everyone wanted. I can't imagine a better ending in this series.

Lianne begins this novel as horribly depressed in such a way that is eerily similar to Bella in Twilight – only Lianne has a damn good reason for her depression. Lianne learns that even if she can’t be with her true love, her life isn’t over. She’s been told of a disturbing prophecy where she sacrifices 10 girls. And at the same time, two women from her past return to her life – and she’s desperate not to lose them either. The bad guys are predictable in this book, but the ending has a decent twist.

As the trilogy drew to a close, there were a few minor things that I wish were elaborated a bit more. I didn’t quite feel that Mags as a character or her actions were entirely plausible. I wish that her part in the plot wasn’t as rushed. It is important to know that the Lianne at the start of this trilogy is a much different woman than at the end. She is less cocky, more powerful, and a much more likeable heroine. She makes some pretty dumb choices at times and you almost wish to schedule her on Intervention for having her heart devoted to all the wrong people, but she feels real with her mistakes. I’m sad to see her journey at an end

OMG........ Its over.. its all done, I think I just died a little bit inside.. This was a great ending to the series. I remember just stumbling across the first book Anathema, fell in love with it, then I found Sleepers, also fell in love with it. But then when I found out that the 2 trilogies were tied together I think I almost died of happiness (I'm pretty sure I actually jumped up and down, and squealed until my mom gave me one of the looks that only a mom could give you) For the next few days all I did was read and read until I finished them and the waiting began for The Sundering... Then when I found out it was released this morning the first thing I did was buy it and again squealed with joy! Thank you Megg Jensen for such and amazing series!!! :)

I enjoyed the Lianne / Kellen / Bryden / Chase story throughout this series, but particularly enjoyed the way it ended. Just one question: What happened to Trevin?!??!

*2.75 STARS*

Considering the rest of the Swarm series, the finale was relatively shock free. Inconsistencies still plagued the text, but most were easily overlooked. This journey was less about an impending magical battle and more about healing emotional wounds. Unfortunately, I found it to be a bit anti-climatic and had a hard time making it through the last few chapters. I understand and appreciate the finality, but it was a far cry from the completely random beheading and attempted murder of a baby in the beginning of the series.

such a good series! I'm sad to see it end. I still have so many unanswered questions. I had to go read The Initiate again to see if I missed something. I expected to find out who Eloh's two sons were and how one stayed with her while one left. I guess I expected one to be a leader of each of the magical kingdoms or something. I have a few other questions but don't want to spoil anything, so I'll keep them to myself.

Last book of the series. Finally, we get the end to the story. I liked the "Cloud Prophet Trilogy" of this Saga more than the "Swarm Trilogy" section. This is the final book in the Swarm one. I give it three stars. I liked it, not as well as the others. To me the last two just weren't as good. Overall it was a great fantasy series. There is some sexual content in this one, nothing explicit, and happens "behind closed doors." I can recommend for ages 16 and up.

I liked the way the book ended; however, I felt the ending was a bit rushed. To me, it felt like she was trying to get the ending tied up as quickly as possible. That being said, I still loved the series, and definitely recommend it!

Good conclusion to a mediocre series. I really didn’t enjoy this series as much as her previous trilogy, but this final book pulled several things together and included characters from her other series making it an enjoyable read.

What a great ending. There's no way I could have predicted the ending to this book, but it makes total sense. I'm sad that the Song of Eloh saga has now come to an end, but it was all a great read.
