In 7 Keys to Spiritual Wellness, best-selling author Joe Paprocki provides a prescription for spiritual health based on the rich wisdom of Catholic Tradition. Through his nondogmatic, downright inviting style of writing, Paprocki makes this book eminently accessible to non-Catholics and "seekers" as well.
Recognizing that the spiritual immune system is weakened almost daily by toxic patterns and attitudes that negatively impact our ability to live in a harmonious relationship with God and others, Paprocki offers seven enduring and reliable strategies for achieving spiritual wellness. After identifying practical ways to integrate each of these strategies into daily living, he describes seven persistent dangers to our spiritual well-being and how these dangers manifest themselves in our lives.
At its core, 7 Keys to Spiritual Wellness helps us see the Christian faith not as a collection of rules and doctrine, but as a spiritual path--a path whose guideposts for spiritual wellness are sure to lead us to a more meaningful life and to a much richer experience of our faith.
I found this book gives practical advice for being spiritually healthy. The author uses real world examples and vivid images. We might not think about our spiritual health as often as we think about our physical health and mental health. I think spiritual, physical and mental health are all important and Inter-connected. For those seeking to grow spiritually from whatever point you are, I think this book is helpful.
7 Keys to Spiritual Wellness, Enriching Your Faith by Strengthening the Health of Your Soul, is an excellent book. Joe Paprocki, a well known catechist and author, has crafted a book that takes the old theme of the 7 deadly sins, and corresponding curative virtues, and as he puts it puts "old wine in new wineskins". The result is a very approachable read that holds the reader's attention without being off putting the way some discussions of the 7 deadly sins can.
Joe uses cultural references most of us are familiar with, like Tribbles from Star Trek fame, to keep the reader engaged. Without being preachy he manages to cover the things most of us battle each day, like pride, anger, etc. while giving us some concrete suggestions for overcoming these barriers to holiness.
At just 113 pages Joe has written a book that manages to convey the right amount of information without beating any dead horses.
Joe Paprocki writes in a clear, accessible style, breaking down the seven deadly sins and the Catholic/Christian response to avoid them. He uses Simple analogies to situations in popular culture giving this topic a fresh look. Useful bullet points of tools to strengthen and refresh your spiritual life were scattered throughout the chapters. It was a perfect book to use as a meditation through Lent.
I enjoyed this book much more than I expected I would. In fact, I plan to read some of Paprocki's other books. It was great to read a book on catholic spirituality that was real.
