I really enjoyed this one, it is not my usual read without any paranormal elements (with the exception of Abby's friend Selena's physic ability). However is is a well written romantic suspense story. Sexy but not scorching, if that sounds like you absolutely give the Magician a try!
The Magician of Wall Street isn't really a magician, or at least, not a stage magician. He's a financial wizard. Or he was.
But there's something singularly appropriate that a story about a man called "The Magician" begins with a tarot card reading, a reading where, when you look back at it after the story ends, every single thing in it has come true. But not in the way that the heroine thinks.
I found this chilling, how Abby is totally warned about what's going to happen, and completely ignores the warnings because of her preconceived notions about Oliver (the Magician) who admittedly hurt her terribly, and Gil, her old friend and Oliver's former business associate.
In spite of all the evidence that Gil was running a Ponzi scheme (a la Bernie Madoff) Abby refuses to believe that Gil might want to hurt her as part of his plans. Because she doesn't trust Oliver not to control her the way her father did. And the way she knows her daddy still wants to.
Abby has some serious "Daddy issues". And Oliver is definitely a LOT like her father. Which does make one wonder a whole lot about why she got so deeply involved with a man just like dear old dad.
But I digress.
The Magician of Wall Street had two different stories going on. The surface story was the suspense. The financial genius, Oliver, loses his investment firm because his associate, Gil was running a Ponzi scheme under his nose. Oliver missed the whole thing because he was too busy with Abby.
And Abby thought Oliver was too busy working to pay enough attention to her, so she left him, moved to the West Coast and went into partnership with her best friend in a New Age bookstore. From Abby's perspective, Oliver may have lived with her and slept with her, but he didn't love her. Oliver never let himself lose that much control. Oliver was all about taking control--of her. So Abby ran away.
And Gil, he manipulated the whole thing. Well, not the love. But he pointed them at each other and watched them dance. Then messed everything up by trying to kill them. Except these two people are already very, very messed up. Gil just added bullets and explosives.
Abby's daddy threw in money and a company. I'm not sure who was more destructive. This story has an absolutely fantastic beginning. The scene with the Tarot card reading really works.
But Abby keeps wimping out after that. Gil was right, she is easily manipulated. This was an okay story, but after that fantastic beginning, I'd hoped for better.
I'm bummed out about this book. The first chapter totally caught my attention, and I was really looking forward to the rest of the story, but what looked promising turned out not so much. Don't get me wrong, it's an OK story but not what I'd expected.
Oliver is supposed to be this do-as-I-say kind of guy, unbendable, always gets what he wants-- to me this means he's an Alpha (my kind of guy). Yet when he faces Abby (whom he loves) the alpha in him doesn't really come out. I get where he's coming from, and why he's holding back at some things where before he would've just said "do it" (he wants Abby back, he wants her bad), but his attitude, physical responses and other interactions left me wanting more.
Abby, on the other hand is the right kind of heroine for Oliver... She's pretty, smart, and witty.
Again,I think it is a good story line... For me, if the hero would've shown more of his do-as-I-say attitude the story would've been perfect.

I found this to be a well written story complete with humor, romantic suspense, a little action and even a paranormal twist. Ms. Hall combined well written characters that were interesting and charming in their own way giving them a bit of depth.
Abby Daltry leaves New York running to Cali to get away from her ex, Oliver Pendragon. She now runs this quirky little new age bookstore with some unique customers. She even gets the occasional Tarot Card reading. When the ‘Magician’ card is revealed she chooses to ignore it. Oliver once again enters her life, bringing with him danger. All Abby wants is one more chance at her forever love with the only man she has ever loved.
Oliver has a magical way of making things work for him and go his way. When he encounters a way to get everything he ever wanted he realizes he wants Abby. But he can’t let her find out as there will be hell to pay.
I must admit that although this was a fun story I did find that is started off fast paced, slowed down a bit only to pick back up again to the end. If you like second chance at love story this is right up your alley. With likable characters, steamy romance, the parts I found lacking still helped move the story along making it worthwhile to finish the story.
A huge THANK YOU THANK YOU to Danielle at Entangled for allowing me to read this book.Oh where to begin...... Oliver oh my lord Oliver! He is the kind of man you love to hate and hate to love. He is demanding one moment and then the next is at Abby's beck and call. Lord I love a man who talks trash and when it comes down to it knows his place.
Abby is in big trouble and Oliver comes to save her. He realizes he is madly in love with her and will stop at nothing to have her back. But in the end what will Abby chose? Will she choose love or will she go her separate way? Will she open up to Oliver in time to be saved? Come along for an action packed adventure with Oliver and Abby. I promise you you will not be disappointed.
This book is a short read and will grip you like no other. I have been reading a lot of romance books lately and this book met all my expectations and more. Minta did a great job of mixing things up and giving us a new swoon worthy guy to fight over.
The first chapter of this book was great--it hooked me right away; however, the next 1/3 of the book was very slow. It was somewhat disappointing because the first chapter was so promising. However, I am glad I stuck with it because it did pick up and get much better.
Once I got through the slow parts, the action really started to pick up, and the romance became oh so steamy. Oliver was definitely a hottie that I won't mind dreaming about!
Now, it did end somewhat abruptly; and the climactic ending could have been stretched out a little bit more to provide a bit more suspense.
This is only my 2nd adult book that I have read (I'm a YA fanatic), but overall I did enjoy it and will be looking for more from the Entangled Indulgence line.
Been looking for this book for a year but it seems like it disappear in thin air :( does anyone know where I can find it, or if they changed the tittle?!
