Cassie Warren’s world falls apart when Patrick, the first and only boy she’s ever loved cheats on her. Or so she thinks. It takes time to mend a broken heart but she meets and falls in love with Mark, promising to love him for the rest of her life. When the unthinkable happens, Patrick is there to help her pick up the pieces. Can she forgive what happened all those years ago?
New Zealand writer. Giving writing a go after a very long break. Letting my imagination run free after so long is a bit scary, but here goes!
I can usually be found at my blog, on Twitter or on Facebook. Come and chat! I love stories about real people, with a bit of drama and sometimes a touch of spice. My stories are usually based in little old NZ. :)
MAIN CHARACTERS: Cassie Warren: curvy, brilliant loner who is surprised when her former best friend wants to date her. Patrick Cross: athletic, popular guy who has secretly been in love with Cassie for the longest time. Mark Burrows: Cassie's partner as an adult who completely changes her for the better. Lauren Burrows: Mark's sister and Cassie's best friend Sophie Warren: Cassie's daughter
LIKES: Patrick sticking up for Cassie Mark's love for Cassie (the way she made sure she was never alone really tore me up) How strong Cassie is Patrick being there for Cassie when she needs him (well, later anyways)
DISLIKES: Vicki Mark leaving Cassie
OVERALL THOUGHTS ABOUT BOOKS: I could not put this down! I know I'm probably in the minority but I really enjoyed this book. I didn't feel as if the book was as rushed as a couple readers had said it was (I've read plenty more books that I felt rushed the ending and this wasn't one for those for me). This book really tugged on my heart strings. It was a very emotional book for me. Even from the beginning this book had me in tears. It was really hard for me to decide who I wanted Cassie to be with. There were times were I wanted Cassie to be with Patrick but then there were times I wanted Cassie to be with Mark. So hard to choose because they are both amazing men. This book, for me, is just one of those books that even though it doesn't have great reviews, it can be great to some.
STEAM LEVEL: eh, not really...very minimal
DOES IT END IN A CLIFFHANGER?: Nope :)
FAVORITE QUOTES: "You look at her the same way I do. As if she's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen in your life. Because she is. That gorgeous young woman is the love of my life, and it rips me apart to be leaving her, but I'll be leaving her in good hands. If you stick around for her." This quote just about broke me.
"Cassie. You were always the one. Even when you thought you weren't, and we were apart, it was always you. My heart and life are yours, and you and Sophie fill them every day with your love. You are my soulmate, my everything. I love you, Cass."
"It's my job as your father to make sure you know how beautiful you are, and that you don't need to do anything to change yourself Sophie."
This book was soooo lonnnggggg, like ridiculously unnecessarily long. It was unrealistic too. You can't tell me that if a woman kept your child a secret from you for 13 years, you wouldn't be at least upset about it. Or the fact that they still pined for one another for the same amount of time? Or what about her ex (the baby daddy) is helping out her terminally ill partner just because. Yeah, no doesn't happen. The author jumps from one person POV to another without any warning same with the timeline (jumps months/years). The writing style is weird. Not a fan of this book. I made it to 90% only because I wanted to know if the child found out who her real daddy was. Fuck this book.
Another Chance by Ariadne Wayne was not exactly what I was expecting.
I enjoyed the beginning of this book a lot. I liked Cassie Warren and Patrick Cross as the main characters. I liked that they were best friends when they were younger and then grew apart. It kind of reminded me of like the movie Drive Me Crazy. Then I enjoyed Cassie and Patrick being a couple and then becoming friends again.
Then everything hit the fan for me after that.
Another Chance is a good read if you're looking for an emotional contemporary fiction read. So don't pass it up, cause it may be just your cup of tea.

This book I picked up arbitrarily one day because the synopsis sounded good. I didn't look at the Good Reads rating. If I had, I most likely wouldn't have read it. The plot had real potential, but it wasn't executed completely, leaving me feeling as if the story was just a summarized.
This story takes place when Cassandra is in high school. She always had a crush on the Rugby Captain of the school named Patrick. And apparently he liked her too. Problem was she wasn't popular because she was a bigger girl. When Cassandra and Patrick started dating briefly the summer before college, Cassandra sleeps with Patrick - both of them being each others first. The next day he has a house party and Cassandra is led to believe that he is cheating with his ex named Vicki, who has also been a bully to her.
The story develops more as Cassandra looses her parents to a house fire, and her discovering she is pregnant with Sophie, Patrick's daughter. Patrick moves on to attend college and become a cosmetic surgeon. Their lives lead very different paths - Cassandra falling in love with Mark who is her contractor, and Patrick having many brief sexual encounters with women who mean nothing to him.
Finally, Cassandra runs into Patrick at the hospital when she is there waiting for her husband Mark - he has cancer and only months to live.
This book had a lot of drama and I definitely cried from parts of the story, which surprised me, however I had a real problem with how the book was written. It was written in third person POV (which I don't like). The author told me how the characters felt, but I didn't personally connect. I couldn't get into their minds. If this book was written in first person POV, I might had enjoyed it more. Like I said, the plot was good, but the obstacles were presented which causes drama but were quickly worked out, so there wasn't much struggle. Plus the conversations between characters were awkward. It didn't feel like natural dialogue between people.
This book was unnecessarily long, and everything worked out too easily and perfectly for me. You're telling me a guy isn't mad that his ex never told him they had a child? And he just helps her and her new man through their issues when the new man is dying of cancer, even though he hasn't seen her in like 12 years?! Ummm... not buying it. Everyone in this book was too perfect and polite, and the female MC became a bit of an obnoxious tease after her man died.
Another Chance is a really great story, but at times I would get lost with how this book was written.
Cassie Warren and Patrick Cross were childhood best friends, but things changed when they got to High School. Patrick became the popular rugby player and Cassie was the smart heavy set girl. She continued to crush on Patrick from afar, but knew their lives were too different to rekindle their friendship let alone anything else. Finally Patrick comes to his senses and goes after what he's wanted for so long. For a few weeks things between Patrick and Cassie are absolutely beautiful and I loved this part of the story. Them rekindling their friendship, moving to something more, and learning more about one another. Then things go bad.. and they don't see each other for years.
My heart broke for Cassie when things went wrong with Patrick, but she should have talked to him, instead of letting things get so out of hand, and on top of that another tragedy hits her and her life is in shambles. She made some decisions during this part of the book that I really didn't agree with but at the same time I understand why she did what she did.
Patrick and Cassie are away from each other more than they are together in this book, and I think that's part of what I was disappointed about. I really hoped this would be them finding each other and getting a HEA, but so many other things that happen in this book take away from the beautiful love story that is Cassie and Patrick. I was able to get past some of this because the way the plot twisted definitely added to the story, more so Cassie's story than Patrick's, but it helped bring them back together.
This story definitely had some ups and downs for the main characters, and Patrick and Cassie's love story is beautiful, I just wish we would have gotten more of it. The writing threw me for a loop a few times. One second we'd be in Patrick's head, then the next in Cassie's, then someone else. It took a bit to get used to the writing style, and it slowed me down a bit when reading the book. It also does quite a few time jumps in this book, so I had to go back and re-read to see how far ahead we were now from when we started.
Overall this story is good. As stated previously I wanted more of Patrick and Cassie, without all the other craziness going on. If you're looking for a second chance romance with a bit of a twist, consider adding Another Chance to your TBR List today.
The book is well written and I loved the way we can see all of the characters views of the situation, but I thought that maybe the beginning was a bit off... cause he just coming to talk to her out of the blue and doing what he did, knowing that she was bullied was a bit awkward. But loved the way their lives continued making it more real, more strong in the end because of all the thing they went trough
I loved reading this book all though it did have its ups and downs. The downs where tearjerkers. I have to say that the ending is well worth finishing.
You're killin me Wendy. I have never cried more of harder than I have reading your books and I loved every minute of it. Your books touch me so deeply I can't put them down and I can't forget them long after I'm finished. Cassie is a sweet introverted young girl with a self esteem problem due to getting bullied in school. Patrick was her best friend growing up and her first kiss but then the older they got the more he started to pull away from her because he started making new friends the more popular he got but he always has feelings for Cassie. At times I could almost feel their emotions coming off the pages. I laughed and I cried and on more than one occasion I was crying the ugly cry. Lol. At times I caught myself holding my breath just waiting to see what was gonna happen next. Patrick and Cassie were meant to be but I absolutely loved Mark and I'm so glad for the time Cassie and Sophie had with him. She needed him. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
This book was amazing I laughed I cried!!! Cassie was in love with Patrick and she thought he cheated on him than a accident happen and many years later she meets up with him again but she's already fallen in love with mark but some a accident happens and Patrick stays by her side but will she forgive him. This book is amazing
Wanted a quick read and second chance romances are always fun...this one though was so weird! It seems to have been written by a 12 year old. The characters had no real depth and the repetition started to make my head hurt. And I’m not sure if it was the formatting but the time lines were a bit all over the place. Oh well, I knew I shouldn’t have counted my Run of Good Books chickens before they hatched.
I love the plot, of childhood friends becoming a couple, which is why I bought this book.
I started this book last night, and my first thought was that the conversations were ackward and forced between Cassie and her parents; and then between her and Patrick. I stuck with it for a while, and then skimmed the rest. I thought much of the conversations were to express the character's thoughts and emotions to the reader, which I thought would have better if those moments were done as thought or narrated by the narrator.
I also, didn't like Cassie's parents, they seem disconnected from Cassie. Cassie complained of her curives, so mom bakes her cookies? She also, seemed to try to joke with Cassie, but I felt again, like it was forced.
Spoiler...I also didn't really care for the hero, Patrick. At first, he was a great hero, and I thought this book would capture my heart as the book Bully did, but in the middle, I started to not like Patrick. He just didn't convince me that he really loved Cassie or loved her as much as he said he did for all the years in between they times of togetherness.
Spoiler....I didn't like the love triangle. I don't mind love triangles in books, I just don't like them when you don't know which guy to hope for. Both guys were equally dislikable and likable. Yes, I know that many people are that way, and I do like characters who act much like normal people do. But I didn't think either were truly worthy of Cassie, nor were someone I would actually go out with!
There is some action in this book and moments that make you go "wow," but I felt overall that the characters fell flat. This book just didn't tug on my heart strings like I like or thought it would. I love heros whose love makes me want to cry and heroines who make go "way to go girl," and I just didn't get any of that from this book.
I always give an honest review on how I find a book, and i hate to give poor reviews, unfortunately, I dont know what else to say. I found the story line to be poor, the story is very much all over the place that at times, i felt lost and had to back track, worse is out of the blue without warning, the perspective changes to someone elses, and that makes it even more confusing, I also found it to be more like reading a script rather than a story, as 90% of it is dialogue, I couldnt connect to the characters, they felt unrealistic and lacked that emotion, i couldnt connect with them. The writer has made this to fast paced, one moment your your reading a current situation, then your suddenly months ahead then your sevral years ahead, it changed to much to quickly esp for one book, because of that you end up missing vital things, the writer missed opportunities to let us know what had occurred. Most annoying part for me, was Cassie actually took him bacK, because she has no physical proof that he slept with Vicki? even though she had been hurt by him wtf sorry its not a book id recommend. :(
A waste of time, effort and money. This book had so much potential but it was so rushed. The author needs to make use of chapter changes, or at least paragraphs. One sentence would be in the here and the next one has jumped to the future. Could get to be confusing. I felt the leading men could've been a LOT more romantic, rather than just say "I'm taking you to bed woman". Pretty sure not many women would appreciate that kind of talk. I felt Sophie was too grown up for her years. There didn't seem to be much of a mother/daughter relationship I thought. And what was with everyone calling Cassie "love"?? I understand maybe the parents calling her that, since it's kind of an older term, but mark and Patrick?? It just sounded stupid. How about "honey" or "baby"? Anyway, all in all, I wouldn't waste my time on this book
I dig second chance at love stories and this is one of those. It was short and simple but I like reading it. I mean, the title says it all but it is still a nice read. Something light and something that will make you blush. I wish there was more to it though, like something deep but overall, a good read.
Something short, light and cute. If you are looking for these qualities in a book then give this a try.
3.5 stars. Overall I really enjoyed this book. There were some instances I wish would've lasted longer and not jumped around so quickly. I'm glad that she was with Mark, I believe that it made her a better person. I also liked that Patrick and Mark became friends, it made it easier in the end and they both new he'd want them together.
I usually love second chance romance but I didn't like this one. I couldn't understand why the heroine didn't tell the hero that he was a father until the child was practically a teenager. I hate women who deceive and I really disliked Cassie. I don't know what happens at the end because I didn't finish it. I was confused with the passage of time, sometimes it would jump years after a paragraph.
I absolutely LOVED this book. It was so enjoyable from start to finish. Some people complained that it was too long (I always glance through reviews before buying a book), but I thought the length was perfect with how much happened in the story. The amount of typos ALMOST made me give it 4 stars but I decided to look past it.
The story was quite good, it just seemed really rushed and what I think should have been a new chapter or maybe a new paragraph when the story moved forward a few weeks started on a new line after a full stop. It was an ok read and I did finish the book, I just didn't quite connect with it.
I enjoyed this story very much. The writing and dialogue were not perfect but I could easily overlook that as the storyline was beautiful and I loved the characters, particularly Mark. I would read this author again and recommend this book.
OMG. How does a woman find not one but two loves of her life. Cassie Warren does it. This was a beautiful but heartbreaking love story. It got a little long towards the end but an overall nice story. I hope book two is just as good.
It was so refreshing to read something real and easy to relate to by a lot of woman. This was such a unique and refreshing story I couldn`t put it down!
I can`t wait to see what else this Author has in store for her readers!
Maybe this is one of Wayne's first books, so the writing and grammar are pretty bad. It's unnecessarily long, and it gets really boring, didn't hold me in all the way. Also, I just read Loving Rowan from the same author, what is with the getting pregnant with a condom thing??

Another Chance is a standalone book by Ariadne Wayne. Solid storyline with lots of depth and emotion. Characters were well developed with lots of chemistry. Throw in a second chance romance with a hidden baby and you have my favorite type of book!!!
