An expansive look into how collage came to be, with folks like Picasso, Margritte, Ernst, and Schwitters paving the way for perceptions and expectations of the form to be blown away. Collage became the approach of choice for artists trying to call reality into question. I especially appreciate the tone of the text in this book since it isn't as academic or hyperbolic as other art history books published in the 80s. Includes 142 illustrations, wonderfully presented.

This is a terrific book on collage, containing the history and concepts behind collage and including some wonderful color examples of the great collage artists of the world.
