DOWN ON HER LUCK Lucy Delacourt's temp position isn't quite her dream job but it pays the bills...barely. The highlight of her day is riding the elevator in the mornings: she always manages to time it so that she sees the handsome stranger every day. He's fuel for her fantasies and way out of her league, but a girl can look, right?
BUT NOT FOR LONG Everything changes however the day the handsome stranger seduces a stunned Lucy, first in the elevator then again in the parking garage after work. Completely out of character, she yields without a fight, but she has no idea her wanton acts with a man whose name she doesn't know will start a sensual chain of events that forever change her life. Because the sexy stranger is none other than Jeremiah Hamilton, billionaire CEO of Hamilton Industries, and one taste of the hot little temp isn't near enough to satisfy his need.
The billionaire has big plans for the wayward temp, plans that have nothing to do with filing paperwork...
Sara Fawkes has always loved spinning tales, but her romantic roots come from sneaking her mother's old Johanna Lindsay books from the dresser drawer. She's been writing stories since she was a little girl (and has the home made books from preschool to prove it), and loves creating stories and characters and interesting messes for them to get into. An avid traveler and adventure motorcyclist, her dream job includes selling everything off and leaving civilization to see the world on two wheels, writing in cafes in each country she visits, and living off her writing. In the meantime however, she lives in California with her menagerie of pets and, when not writing, loves to rebuild old motorcycles/cars with her Dude and plays with the characters in her head. You can find her online talking about whatever strikes her fancy at:
The Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy was on sale at Target, so I caved and bought it. I like to keep myself well informed when it comes to whatever the masses are reading, so I feel compelled to experiment with genres that I wouldn't ordinarily choose on my own.
Someone on Twitter compared this DOMINATED BY THE BILLIONAIRE series to Fifty Shades, so when I had the opportunity to read these for review purposes, I decided to give it a try. If people adore Fifty Shades, and this is comparable, it must be decent, right?
Um. Yeah. Not so much.
So, we have this unconfident little temp worker who immediately informs us that her only relationships lately are with her vibrator. This pretty much all we know about her, besides the fact that she rides the elevator every day and has naughty dreams about a hot, rich looking guy who works in the building.
One day, just out of the blue, this hot, rich man comes from behind and grabs her in the elevator. Rather than being disturbed, calling the police, or running to human resources, she lets this total stranger take off her underwear and pleasure her.
Right.
He groans and growls a lot and she moans over and over again. I mean, let's skip the formalties -- no small talk and definitely don't tell me your name or position or ask me to dinner.
No, he comes right out and growls that he can smell her "arousal" and her "need".
So, rather than screaming bloody murder and running away from this lunatic, she does the logical thing and lets him ravish her.
Afterwards, she repeatedly scolds herself for acting SO out of character, because she's definitely not the type of girl to let random creeps practically rape her in public places. For several pages, she feels so shocked and so ashamed, but such deviations from normal behavior are understandable -- because I'm sure we've all found ourselves in situations where we temporarily let strange sexual predators steal our underwear, right?
Okay, so she feels SO horrible and depressed but then this disturbing loon lurks around outside work, grabs her up from behind like a mass murderer, and she decides to learn from her last interactions and finally escape, right?
No, she takes off her underwear and lets him ravish her again. Aggressively.
And, it's not even sexy. His "member" is "jumping" around, excited. Like, what, a dog? Everyone moans and groans and acts half insane...
Oh yeah, and this unethical predator turns out to be the CEO of the company where she's working.
And he fires her. Why? Because he suddenly felt ashamed of his immoral, inhumane performance with an employee?
Nah, he just wants to hire her as a sex slave instead.
I am CLEARLY not the intended audience for this -- whatever it was.
I'm sure all of us girls have been in a similar situation to Lucy at the beginning of the book. She’s been admiring a tall, dark handsome stranger she rides the elevator with every morning. She doesn't know who he is and she feels sure that he hasn't once noticed her until, one morning, they find themselves alone in the elevator and he reaches over, pushes the emergency stop button and turns the glare of those gorgeous green eyes on her and she goes weak at the knees with arousal. Phew!! Talk about love in an elevator.
I did worry that this was going to be a bit PWP but, after a smoking hot car park encounter and an almost combustible job interview, the characters are slightly better fleshed out and we have the beginnings of a story to set up the series.
4 stars to whet your appetite and leave you panting for more!!
not sure what's the point of this story... totally ridiculous! I can totally get the fantasy in a girls head about a stranger in the elevator... that's ok...
call me old fashioned... but if a guy (as dreamy as this one...) would tell me in the elevator "I can smell your arousal", I think I would drop on the floor laughing my ass or slap him in the face... come on! what kind of pick up line is that one? I liked 50 shades... and Bared to you a little less but still.. come on! at least those guys had a little more genious and depth than this one..
I don't get that she is presented as a shy girl wanting to do something with her life and 5 minutes later she lets a total stranger (handsome yes, but stranger after all) not even seduce her, but touch her without her complaining...
I just found the whole story sad... this is not about domination... at least not in the sexual, kinky way... this is more about abuse of authority. The fact that he owns the company and makes sure that she has no option but to work for him is unacceptable.. speaks of what little integrity he has... no matter what happens after this.. I already dislike him. and the interview??? come on! totally coming out of worst porn ever! and she is like "oh no!!! hmmm... ok just do what you want!" get some selfestim girl!
even if in the later books these guys might end up having more depth and getting to know each other in a normal way... this first impression is awful.
I am actually happy this is a short story... the minutes spent reading this will not come back ... totally a waste of time!
What...the...hell did I just read? My goodness, I found something as shitty as 50 Shades of Grey.....Is this even a story?
OK, so chapter one happens and unlike normal stories, including 50 Shades of Grey, we immediately have the 2 main characters fucking in an elevator. A little bit before that, like a sentence before that, she goes on about how she sees this stranger all the time in the same elevator at the same time & doesn't know who he is, but has kinky fantasies about him. As soon as these 2 are left alone in the elevator, he tells her that he can smell her arousal and proceeds on touching her....and she likes it because, hey, he's hot! So that's perfectly fine! Let a total stranger grope you in an elevator; but it's OK, he's hot so it's not illegal and disgusting!
So after the elevator scene and after he tells her that she tastes good, she goes to work and afterwards (I believe when she was going out to lunch), he grabs her out of nowhere, pulls her into some closed area outside in public, and proceeds on groping her, just like in the elevator. You know what's even funnier this time? He forces her to give him a blowjob.....right there....outside.....
After driving his dick into her mouth, the next day, she goes to work earlier just to avoid him. Later on, she gets called to the CEO's office & she does, scared that someone probably saw her on her knees in front of some dude...in public... Funny thing, she doesn't know who the CEO is of the company, and when she sees who it is, she almost drops dead. It's the hot dude, who forced his penis inside her mouth!
So he talks to her and proceeds on telling her that she's fired.
However, he offers her a new job - he wants her to become his personal assistant! She knows where this is going and to see if she "qualifies" basically, he proceeds on fucking her right on his desk (but he reassures her that the walls are sound proof). Afterwards, she accepts the job from this complete total stranger who's been touching her, forcing her on her knees, etc... and goes to Paris with him!
I am surprised that this author managed to publish this crap! I have to say that this is worse than 50 shades of grey! At least on that book, they introduced us to Anastasia and how much of a boring character she was! This? Nooo! Chapter one: they fuck in the elevator. Chapter two: she gives him a blow job. Chapter three: he fires her, hires her as a personal assistant (more like his fuck buddy) and takes her to Paris with him....
There's so many things wrong with this book that I don't know where to start!
1) He's a stranger. This idiot is letting a horny handsome stranger grope her and even go far into giving her an orgasm in the elevator! This girl doesn't know if he's married, has kids, or is a complete psycho path! If this girl is letting some stranger, no matter HOW he looks, touch her like that, then she has no respect for herself.
2) STD's. When he forced her to give him a blow job, the first thing that came to my mind was "does this guy have an STD?". If he's going around, publicly fucking girls and making them give him a blow job, won't he catch something? But of course, this isn't reality so STD's are unknown in this story, but yet New York and Jersey City are!
3) How do you NOT KNOW who the CEO is of the famous company you work for? Even if you're a janitor at Microsoft, wouldn't you want to know who's the CEO of the company you work for? Basically, your boss's BOSS! And since this is a big, well know company, wouldn't the CEO's picture be everywhere? We see information about famous CEO's from all these different companies.
4) Why would you go to some other country with some stranger (even if he's a fucking CEO) thinking it's OK? This guy could live two lives: CEO in the US, pimp elsewhere. I'm pretty sure he's going to make her his whore. He told her that as his personal assistant, he's going to give her everything she needs and she won't have to work at all.... Yeah, he's definitely going to pimp her out.
The whole book, which isn't big at all, less than 300 pages (I got the pdf version, which was less than 30 pages), but it sucks so much. I was laughing at 4:00 am while I was reading at how much it sucked. I can't believe this author just writes this stuff without thinking "which woman in her right mind lets some stranger finger her...in an elevator?"
Update November 7, 2012 : I was just informed that the author plans to combine and release all 5 books into one full length novel in the next few weeks.
Original post:
This is a very expensive novella series. Each novella in this 5 book continuing story is $2.99.
This concept of novella series that seen to go on...and on...and on to tell one story seems like nothing more than a ploy to make money. Most of these short stories could be interwoven into one full-length book.
They say this is the new Fifty Shades of Grey, but having finished the four short stories in a span of two hours, I don't think so.
Yes, Jeremiah and Christian are both very powerful, possessive, and "broken" men, but that's about it. Remi lacks the care and softness Christian often showed Anastasia as Remi showed Lucy. While reading, I often thought that he was like ordering a dog to sit or to roll over, instead of a partner whom he wanted to have hot sex with.
The shortness of the story is also a rip off, if you buy it from Amazon.
Lucy Delacourt is a temp data clerk for a company. Every morning she gets on an elevator and looks out for dreamy hot guy that she fantasizes about. One day she catches herself alone with him in the elevator when all of a sudden he pushes the red button to stop the elevator. He then proceeds to get her off and she very much enjoys it. She's mortified afterwards and stumbles out and he winks at her and goes on up to his level in the building.
After work she's in the underground parking lot when she is grabbed from behind and the dreamy hot guy tells her, "I did tell you I would see you soon." She fights against him and he likes when she does. He whispers naughty things and slowly her mind and body gives in and they have a hot encounter. Her on knees, her with her back against the wall. Again she's feels shame for what she's done and leaves for her train but not before he asks to take her home.
Next day she goes back to work but she's been called up to higher management where she finally gets to know the name of her dreamy hot guy who is none other than CEO billionaire Jeremiah Hamilton. He gives her a job as his personal assistance where he can get and I quote..."Anything I want." He gives it to her on the desk and I gotta say...it was hot. It ends with her about to leave for Paris with him.
I'll continue with the adventure of Mr. Hamiltona and Lucy. On to the next.
Anything He Wants (Dominated by the Billionaire) is a $.99 short story on Amazon. It is scorching hot sex with a dominant stranger in semi-public. My phone almost burst into flames while I read it. This is great for a quick 20 minute read to get you “in the mood”. It definitely has a Fifty Shades feel to it.
But I have a HUGE problem with it. It is the first chapter to a book, and leaves you hanging. Then, you have to buy each additional chapter (abt 35 pages) for $2.99 each!!!! WTF? Write a book, and charge me 6-7 dollars, and I’m fine. But I think that this is a sleazeball way of selling a book. As much as I liked the beginning, I will not buy the rest just because this pissed me off.
Story 3 stars (probably would have been a 4-5 if the whole story was told at once)
Heat 5 H
At $.99 each, I would have been OK with it. But at $2.99 each? So far the first 3 installments (more are coming) are $6.97 for less than 100 pages. And you have to wait for each installment!
There isn't enough development or characterization in this very very short novella to establish any more stars. And certainly not enough to entice me into spending a couple more quid for a measly 35 pages of the next addition.
As far as I can tell, there is nothing new here. Shy awkward girl meets hot dominating billionaire who wants to have her any way he wants. Uh huh...read it before!
Thanks for the quick read, but I wont be sucked into spending a fortune for what probably amounts to half a novel.
There is nothing worse than reading reviews with low marks saying they were told this book was like fifty shades - SERIOUSLY!!!
First of all, all authors are different, and yes a lot of books are going ot have some similarities for fifty shades - because fifty shades was a good series, and covered a lot of ground for the BDSM and romance departments. So get over it!!
*ahem* Anyways - this book was a fast read - I was expecting more, but I did like what I read.
Lucy worked in a big corporate, but only as a temp doing data entry. She didn't have a glamorous job, but it paid the bills.. barely.
She liked to blend in and be ignored. She wasn't use to a lot of attention. But when her eye caught on the stranger every morning on the elevator up, she finally had a reason to be excited about her job.
Until one day when the tall dark stranger was alone with her in the elevator, and pushed the red button...
Jaremiah is a little strange to me :) He has that high and mighty Alpha male in him and takes what he wants no matter what. But he has a keen sense of smell. Something most humans don't usually have. So I'm really curious about the story behind that. Which I"m hoping I'll find out soon since I"m going to start book #2 now :)
For the price this was a good fantasy feel read. It ends on a cliff hanger ending which leads to the next in the series with an increased price tag. My problem is that for the length of the read and the follow-up stories this was pricey. I've seen this before - cheap price for the first one which encouraging you to buy the next and so forth. And while it seems cheap add up the total price to read this entire story and you'll see you pay more for it than you thought.
The premise had potential. The tall dark stranger Lucy meets daily on the elevator is really the owner/CEO of the building she's working at. But the way Lucy was depicted had a "must" submit sexually to her boss feel or have negative consequences. I didn't appreciate that she had so few choices or prospects that her "job interview" with Jeremiah even occurred the way it did. On the surface this book had the "Fifty Shades" feel but I didn't get the same vibe. Very small story line but hot sex.
Honestly at first I thought this would be an amazing book, but i quickly realized how wrong i was.It was short too short, and ended so stupidly.Books aren't supposed to end after like three chapters. The entire sires is complete rubbish. All the books combined together make one normal sized book, so why split it up at the most random places? To me it makes no sense and neither does the plot. As soon as I start I get blindsided by main character getting ravished by a stranger in the elevator.... what? Then again by the same stranger in the parking garage. She doesn't even know the guys name! What pisses me off most about this fuckery of a book is that every time something goes down between the stranger and the main character she practically begs for it then as soon as it's over she feels ashamed and slutty. WTF. Lucy (the main character) needs to get her shit together. Do you want him or not? Make up your fucking mind! I can't.
Had to put my Kindle in the freezer for a while, thought it was going to melt. This is one HOT HOT HOT story, yum! Alpha billionaire Jeremiah possesses Lucy, the temp with the big crush.
In the elevator In the parking garage On his desk
This is the first in a series of stories, all adding up to one novel, I believe.
For now, you can buy in installments on Amazon at $2.99 a pop. Kinda steep, as she is on part 5 now, and more are to come, so this is an FYI: if you read this first installment, you will be hooked.
5+ SEXY-PANTY-GRIPPING STARS! ******* wow! Im only upset that it ended so quick! I love the characters. From the ultra nice, sweet & innocent girl to the sexy as f#%k, rough, powerful and did i mention HOT boss, everything just worked. Its similar to a christian grey novel in the sense that there is a boss and an innocent girl f#%king...otherwise it is in it's own field of awesome smut of the best kind! I was dying to read a book like this! It is BETTER THAN PORN!
3.5 stars A steamy hot read but too short, I do look forward to reading the next book in the series. I would probably have a stroke if I ever had an encounter like Lucy has at the beginning of this book....whew! :)
for a short story this book accomplished a lot! lucy is all alone in the world and when this handsome stranger finally takes notice her life is turned upside down and inside out! She doesnt know if its a good thing or a bad thing. only time will tell.
Lucy Delacourt's is a temp who has hot sessions in the Elevator and the Car Park with the Hero turns out to be the Boss of the Company where she is working. This is Part one of the book.
How can you even rate this? The length was like a sample chapter in any other book amazon sends you for free. It was over before it started.. I thought maybe the next one would be longer and it is by only by a bit. I would've rather spent my .99 on a mcdonalds coffee
You know, I am a little disappointed at the ending. Sara Fawkes you almost had me at the 5 star. OMG! That is until she did the stupid thing got all caught up in her own feelings. Here is my reasons first she knew the way he felt about love and everything and she still felt like she could do whatever or say whatever she wanted. Then she call herself being all "rebellious" Um stupid is as stupid does if you asked me. You know you are being sought after but you go and do what you want to do. Um, you get what you deserve. Jeremiah was sweet and disturbed and she knew Lucas was trouble with a capital T. Uh, but you know what I'm goin to read book 2. Yes, I am I have to see what happens. lol But I'm not going to lie you had me at page 2 of the book. I mean Hot Damn! Sexy man in the elevator, that's what I'm talking about. Now, if only I can get the FedEx guy in my building to take notice of me in the uniform whenever I get on the elevator too. hahahaha Well, my motto is if you cannot have you can always read about it.
While the storyline was interesting and intriguing, the EXTREME brievity of each book in the series was EXASPERATING! I was so angry when the book ended after 30-60 pages. Although there was another one to start reading right away, it was still soooo VERY frustrating. If that was Mrs. Fawkes' intention (to make readers feel almost like they had an addiction, just CRAVING to start the next book in the series right away) she most decidedly succeeded. Now, I'm anxiously awaiting the next book (novella) after The Betrayal..... And, yes as crazy as it is to purchase a 30 page "book" (using that term loosely), my addiction to these characters and their drama won't allow me not to pursue them and their, hopefully, happy ending.
Steamy. Very, very steamy. Lucy is at a borng 9 to 5. She's down on her luck and has never had an over eventful life. Then the sexy stranger she's been pining over from afar takes notice of her and their chemistry is electric. Meet Jeremiah Hamiliton, CEO. He's Lucy's hot, green eyed stranger. Things are about to get interesting... I like the story and its flow. Although, you don't find out a whole lot about the characters in this novella or serial novel. That I wasn't too fond of. I'd like to get to know a character or two when I'm starting a series whether it be full novels or a series of novellas. That was my only downer.
I loved this book!! I was looking for something to read on amazon, since I had read Fifty Shades, and this was one that was recommended. I really did not know what to expect, but what I got was awesome!!! I could not believe what I was reading at first... I thought it was a dream she was having, and as I read on, I realized it wasn't. I could not believe some of the stuff in this book, and when I finished I knew I had to read the rest!! When husband asked about it, all I could say was it's like Fifty Shades on steroids. It is not for the sensitive reader that is for sure :) Since it made me laugh, entertained me, and made me want more I give it 5 stars hands down!!!
OH MY WORD... move over 50 Shades because this series is SO MUCH BETTER!!!! I started book 1 in the tub and finished in the tub. Book 1 is the equivilent of 4 or 5 chapters. Then you have to purchase books 2, 3, and 4 by themselves for about 2.99 a pop. Smart marketing move... because I'll end up spending WAY MORE money then I normally spend on ebooks... this book is that good. If you liked 50 Shades of Grey then you are going to REALLY like this book. It starts off from the very beginning HOT and HEAVY and doesn't let up.
This is exactly why I don't like novellas. Absolutely no character development, and practically nonexistent story line. Unless you count a stranger who assaults a woman in an elevator and for some reason this doesn't bother her. He comes off as an sex offender and she comes off as a slut. But the more we get to know them the worse it gets. He's actually her boss(yes, that's the big plot twist) and he now sexually harasses her and offers her a job. Now she's been upgraded from slut to prostitute (or would that be downgraded). Yeah, I don't think I'll be reading the next one.
Okay this really falls more into the category of sexual assault than romance... since when did clearly unwanted sexual advances become sexy? That whole garage scene disturbs me. The protagonist is like, "No, let me go, stop" and let's the reader know that she means it, then the guy is like, "I would never take a woman who doesn't want me," even though he has already forced himself on her and is pinning her against a wall... But, okay! Since he said so, it makes this whole situation alright and he gets a BJ... WTF?! So that's where I got annoyed and just stopped reading.
I'm more and more irritated by this tendency to try to make a book with each part of a story. Especially when each part is no more than a short short story with like 20-25 pages. I liked the premises but the way the story unfolded was unrealistic. The heroine character had some tentative definition. There was nothing left for the hero. Or maybe that was left for a future instalment/ "book". Obviously the ending is wide open.
