A really good start to another YA paranormal series.
Morgan goes to this school on a hunch that it might hold the key to her powers. There she makes friends like she has never been able to before and dreams about this stranger that completes her.
There isn't a lot of surprises in the story, it's more about her finding herself after being kept in the dark for so long.
I have a feeling the next book will have a lot more surprises and way more exciting.

Oh my goodness, I have been procrastinating in writing this review for way to long now. I have now read GIFTED two times!!! I had the opportunity to actually had this novel in the unedited manuscript form, then again in the final draft.

Both times reading it, I devoured through the pages just as fast as I could. (although I did have to put it down and get some sleep) I must confess that I am totally in love with GIFTED, Jenny Phillips debut novel in the Gifted Series.

I fell in love with Morgan’s character right from the start, the sadness, heartache and complete and total craziness that encompassed her world. WOW, what a confusing wave she has to travel, and has traveled at such a young age.

Author Jenny Phillips, has created a phenomenal fresh atmosphere in Gifted, it’s so full of amazing characters that had me actually feeling what they are going through… understanding their emotions as if they were mine. (yes, I cried too!!) Being pulled into a story like this draws me so much closer to the characters and their story…. To have that strong connection.

Morgan was sent to live with her Grandmother at the age of 5 years old, after both her parents were killed in a car accident. Then when her Grandmother dies, she decides to attend MAC for her senior year of school.

Plagued by recurring dreams of a faceless, yet strangely familiar man and struggling to adapt to unique powers, Morgan Cauldwell moves halfway across the country to Manchester Academy. Once at MAC, Morgan meets the mysterious Chase Thomas. He knows more about Morgan than she knows about herself, and through him Morgan learns she is “Gifted”. Chase is also Gifted, and Morgan finds out that they aren’t the only ones… there are others Gifted as they are.

With the help of Chase and the Gifted Council, Morgan begins to learn how to control and develop the powers that have kept her isolated her whole life.

While the mysteries of her dream man begin to unfold, Morgan’s powers quickly surpass even the Council’s expectations. But how much power should one person be allowed to possess? And at what price?
Morgan finds herself face to face with her worst nightmares, where nothing is as it seems, and not all Gifted are content with the powers they’ve been blessed/given.

Some will stop at nothing until they have Morgan…..

Morgan’s life is still a journey being told as she learns to except her Gifted powers, and what her life has now evolved into. Although she still doesn’t understand them in so many ways and levels.
Morgan continues to learn from Chase of the powers that she possesses, you see Morgan is VERY unique, she doesn’t have just one power, she has all five of them…. WOOT, WOOT go Morgan!!!

She has a connection to Chase, that continues to pull her in, it excites her and also scares the living daylights out of her at the same time…. She’s such a strong person, but yet she continuously doesn’t think so.

MESSAGE TO MORGAN:
Dear Morgan,
Have faith in yourself, believe in what you feel.. You are a strong person from within, don’t doubt yourself or the “gifts” you have been blessed with. Learn and embrace them…

(At this point in my life, I would love to have a couple of Morgan’s powers, but mostly the power to heal myself) .. Yes to heal.

Chase = hero and we all love heroes
Morgan = heroine

Chase wants/will protect Morgan no matter what, and to win her trust and heart is everything to him… (do we have a new team here?) yes, I know I have a habit of doing that! Soooo, with that being said, I give you team “Chase/Morgan”!!!! *flutterz wingz* Chase is everything and exactly what Morgan needs, but she doesn’t see it until it’s to late!!! Now what will become of Morgan and Chase??

Gifted is a spectacular and exciting start in the Gifted Series, Now I have to ask one thing.. When is the next book coming out Ms Jenny? You have left me, and others I’m pretty sure of wanting and craving more of our hero Chase and heroine Morgan….

A MUST READ series.

I could not put this book down; you know you love a book when you try to turn your Nook over to look for more.

Morgan’s parents died when she was 5 in a car accident and she was sent to live with her Grandmother. When her gran dies she moves away to attend senior year at (MAC) Manchester Academy. Plagued by recurring dreams of a faceless, yet strangely familiar man Morgan wonders who he is or even if he’s real or made up.
When Morgan meets Chase he tells her she’s Gifted, She has powers like he dose and there are other people like them. With the help of Chase along with the Council she learns to control her powers. With the mysteries of her dream man begin to unfold, her powers even amaze the council.
Morgan soon finds out not all of the gifted are good and some will stop at nothing until they have her.

I have never cried so much reading a book before have tissues handy. Jenny did an amazing job writing Gifted the character’s and the story its self are so well written you really feel what they feel and understand what they are going through. I’m really looking forward to what happens next in Morgan’s life. I’ll defiantly be buying book 2 and recommending it to my readers, friends and family.

This book was hands down amazing book to read there was always excitement through out the book. There were parts that I never seen coming and I was shocked. Chase sounds amazing for Morgan. I hated that she kept on playing her games with Chase not knowing if she wanted him or not. And poor Nolan she broke his heart. But with everything that was happening she was confused with her life. But I am glad at the end she realized that she did love Chase and I want to read more and see what happens. Good book to read for sure. It pulls you in to read more and I love books like that.

This book pulled me in right from the beginning. It was impossible to read one chapter a night at bedtime like I do with most books. The characters are relatable and likable. I found myself wanting to reach into the book and hug Morgan a time or two. I am very much looking forward to seeing how the story evolves!

Gifted is the beginning of a 3 book series following a young girl named Morgan as she learns about her Gifts and all of the adventures that follow.

The book opens up with Morgan going to MAC, a prestigious high school. There, she meets a handful of friends, and a guy named Chase - someone she doesn't expect to have much to do with.

The plot of this novel was very interesting. I really enjoyed learning along with Morgan about the Gifted, and what all that entitles. The climax of the plot starts really late in the novel, which makes for a very slow starting book. I liked that we got a bit of a normal YA novel before we really started delving into the Fantasy aspect near the end.

I liked the main character Morgan, however I disliked the way that she was written. Throughout the novel, many things happen to Morgan - one of them, for example, sending her to the hospital. She recovers almost immediately and moves on with her life as if nothing happened. I feel like the author rushed the characters through a lot of the important events in the plot.

One of the biggest problems I had with this book is the structure of the novel. The only big climax moment was brushed away just as it happened, and there was barely any lead up to it. Another big problem was that it needed to be revised. There were a number of mistakes and missing words, and with the book being out since 2012, this should have been delt with long ago.

I think the best rating I can give this book is 3 out of 5 stars. There was just so much wrong with the structure of the book that I couldn't focus completely on the story. I will however say that the story premise and the characters were interesting and the reason that I made it through the whole series.

Hopefully Phillips revises her novels because I really do see the potential in these being 5 star books.

::..Reviewed for Red's Midnight Readers..::

This is a beautiful cover and initially it was the blurb that compelled me to read it.
Gifted starts out quite slow and I was beginning to think that it wasn't actually going to be something for me! I love YA books but somehow I felt like this was missing it's mark. It was still enjoyable but it's definitely aimed at the YA market and not for an older audience, the typical teenage attitude grated on me somewhat.

However, once the pace began to pick up I did find myself enjoying it and towards the end I was actually looking forward to finding out what happens next. The ending will definitely have you reaching for the next book, it's some cliffhanger.

MY REVIEW
I find the cover is attractive, in the way that the green eyes stand out and yet draw you in at the same time. The person on the front of the cover, I would say represents Morgan well. I would have liked the font of the title to be slightly bolder so that it would be more prominent.
This book starts with a tragedy really of Morgan's grandmother dying, that spurs Morgan onto going to a boarding school. Morgan feels drawn to one particular place, though doesn't understand why, it all becomes much clearer later in the book.
Morgan isn't a stranger to tragedy as her parents were previously killed in a car accident when she was five years old. Since then she has lived happily with her grandmother.
Morgan is "different", "special" some would call it "Gifted" others have made Morgan feel that its more of a "curse" and something to be hidden and kept a secret. Morgan is managing to make a few friends and have quite a "normal" life until Chase comes along. Chase is "special" too. Chase does keep his "gifts" a secret from others at the school but explains that there is a "gifted" council and that they "gifts" should be nurtured and developed not hidden and be felt ashamed about.
Morgan has strange dreams about a boy with beautiful amber eyes, but who is he? Is he even a real person? What do the dreams mean?
The book has a great mixture of tragedy, drama, mystery, suspense, friendship, love, romance and heart ache and heart break too.
There's so much more I could say and go into but I believe you should find out more by reading the book. I hope I have spoken about enough to interest you in reading this really great book for yourselves. This book is clearly the start to a potentially brilliant series. I was so very disappointed at how the book ended..... maybe I am a sucker for a really happy ending but I really wanted more. then when I sat and thought about the ending i think it's a really good ending as it leaves you wanting to learn more about the "Gifted" people as well as the "normal" people. We have learnt and had confirmed that in terms of the "Gifted" Morgan is extra special. We learn some of her gifts and their potential along with her within this first book. The ending leaves lots more scope for us to learn more about her gifts.
So did I enjoy the book? Yes a lot! Would I recommend the book? Yes I would say it fits the YA market perfectly. Would I read more in this series? Yes, am looking forward to Bk#2 already. Would I read more by Jenny Phillips? Definitely Yes, I enjoyed her writing style immensely.

Love this book. I could not put it down. Jenny’s writing is fresh and the world she has created is amazing.

Morgan moves away to a new city and school after the death of her grandmother. She can’t explain the pull she feels towards Manchester until she meets Chase. Morgan tries her best to stay away from him but she feels a pulls to Chase that scares and excites her at the same time. For Morgan is not your normal teenager she has powers that she doesn’t understand or can control. But Chase knows them all to well as he has one of the same powers she does. He tells her they are gifted but within this community of gifted people she stands out even more. Not only does she possess one but all five of them.

I was sucked into this book from the first line. Morgan is a heroine that you just love. With all the craziness and heartache in her life she pulls you in and makes you love her. She is so strong even though she doesn’t think so. I would love to have the gifts she has. Being able to move objects, change my hair color and style, and heal myself would be amazing. Chase is a hero we all love. He wants to protect Morgan at all costs and if he can win her heart in the process that would mean everything to him.

I don’t even know where to start with everything I felt while reading this book. I connected to Morgan instantly. I don’t have the powers she does but I have been through some of the heart ache she has so it was easy to understand her. With Chase I didn’t know if he was the villain or hero at first but there was something about him I just loved from the start. But I am so glad he is the hero and he is everything Morgan needs even though she doesn’t see it until it is too late.

What a roller coaster ride of a book. Through death, heart ache, secrets, friendship, and love Jenny will leave you wanting more Morgan and Chase and the world she has created. Gifted is defiantly a great start to what will be an awesome series and have you begging for the next book. 5/5 bats

(Would go for 10 if I could!!! It's that good!)

This book was provided by the author in exchange for honest literary review.

Usually I sit back and write a small synopsis of the plot and give a little background to draw you in. This book was so good, I simply don't know where to begin.
This book is not one of the best books I have read this year, it is one of he best books I have ever read. Morgan and Chase's story is a whirlwind romance/ heartbreak/action/thriller. Yes, all of that rolled into once. The author drags you into Morgan and her story from the very beginning. I became emotionally attached to her and all of her friends at the MAC. The characterization was done so beautifully I had a deep emotional connection to each of the characters, and that is so rare for me to find in a novel.
Chase has also became my new book boyfriend/hero. How I wish that grown men exhibited the courage and heart this 17 yr old boy has. He is driven, smart, strong and sexy. I was so in love with him at times I felt like a cougar.(lol)
I couldn't find one single thing I didn't like about this book, except for maybe the second book in the series isn't out yet. I loved it way more than Twilight, and right up there with Harry Potter. Once you open the cover, you simply can't leave it until the last page. It is more addicting than crack!!!!!
The ending was so awesome. I yelled, cried, and almost threw my kindle. Yes it was that daggone good. I am telling you if you read one book this year, this is it. You will never regret picking it up. My only regret is I waited this long. For me this is the type of story both movies and tv should be made of. EXCELLENT SERIES DEBUT!!!!!

Gifted by Jenny Phillips was a wonderful story and is a great beginning to the
Broken Souls Series. It tells the story of Morgan, a young girl who is alone in the
world after the death of her grandmother. Morgan feels isolated because she has unusual
and strange powers that she tries to hide from everyone. Following her grandmother's
death she enrolls in a private school, Manchester Academy, because she feels drawn there. At school she begins to learn more about her powers and she even meets others who have powers or gifts.
I really enjoyed this story and I read it in one sitting because I was so intrigued by
it. And when I finished it, I immediately went online and bought the second book in the
series. Yep, I'm hooked on this series by Jenny Phillips.
The story is interesting and different. The idea of gifts or powers isn't unusual but
the spins that Jenny Phillips puts on it make her story her own. I loved the concept of
recognizing which power a person has by their eye color. And the way she explores
"soul mates" in the story is very cool.
The characters in the book are wonderful. Morgan is scared and unsure but also strong
and confident. She is dealing with so much and all of her emotions are relatable and
realistic. Iris and Kenzi are perfect friends and each of them has such an interesting
personality. Nolan and Chase are both amazing guys (but I'm definitely on Team
Chase)...and they both really care about Morgan.
When the story ended, I was left with some unanswered questions and a need to know
more....which is why I immediately bought the next book. So plan on getting sucked
into this series.

Highly enjoyable!

What was not to love about this book? Out of Nolan and Chase, I'm totally team Chase people! I mean how how is this? "His aqua eyes practically glowed with excitement. His arm propped against the inside of the doorway, casually leaning yet blocking off my exit..." I mean it sounds a bit intimidating, but it was still hot. Chase is a tad bit territorial, "Actually; we're good. If we wanted to join you, we would have. I don't think we need your permission." Let's talk about Morgan and the fact that the girl has a temper, "No, you know what's not fair? When people don't give you a chance in your own life. You know what Chase? It sucks you lost your soul mate; I know and I'm sure everyone thinks it's a simple solution to just mate the two broken pieces, but I don't like my life mapped out for me..." But when the girl is heart broken the girl is heart broken, "So they sent you here to get a sense of what I was like. Once they knew I had all this cray power they decided we could be a good match. Then they wanted you to win me over? I was just dumb enough to believe you...I was dumb enough to fall for you." Don't worry Chase has a temper to, "Easy out? Are you kidding? You can't ever make up your mind! You're hot and cold, the second I feel like we could have something you just throw me aside! I don't know..." The ending killed me let me tell you what, I need to get my hands on the second book!

Gifted was a really enjoyable read! I admit to it taking me a little while to get into it, but once I did, I couldn't put it down.

Morgan is definitely not like any other girls her age. Strange things happen to her and around her. Things that she can't explain or control. Things that she keeps hidden from everyone else. And then there are the recurring dreams of a man who's face she cannot see. After the death of her grandmother she is drawn to travel across the country to attend Manchester Academy. It's there that friendships are formed and she catches the eye of fellow MAC attendees Nolan and Chase... Yes, there is a bit of a love triangle but really for me there is never really any competition. I know who I would choose straight up!! However it's through Chase that Morgan learns about her gifts. And through the Gifted Council she learns to harness and control those powers.

Jenny Phillips has created a book filled with action and suspense. She has created characters that you cant help but to become invested in. And through her words you can't help but feel a whole range of emotions as you get taken along by her storytelling... And that ending!! I can't wait to see where the author will take us in the next book as Morgan continues her journey.

This book was so good! I loved it and I thought that it is well worth the read! I have to say though that I felt that it went a bit slow at the beginning but then it picked up so quickly and I couldn't put it down! I really enjoyed the characters! Morgan Cauldwell was the main character and it took me a while to really connect with her but when I did I loved her and also her personality! I also felt really sorry for her as she had been through a lot! Chase Thomas was the one of the love interests of Morgan and I absolutely adored him! Morgan's friends were so nice and they were really supportive of her! There was a love triangle in this book between Morgan, Chase and Nolan but it is not the main focus of the book and it doesn't continue throughout the full book which I liked! I was totally Team Chase throughout the whole book though! I thought that the plot was really good and really original and I really enjoyed it! I am so looking forward to the next book in this series after that MASSIVE cliffhanger and I also love the new cover! Big thank you to Jenny for an ARC of Gifted!

I received this book for an honest review...

This book blew me away!! Jenny keeps you on edge the whole time!

This is a story about a girl named Morgan who knew she has always been different from normal people, she has never really fit in very well. Her parents passed from a car accident when she was 5 years old and her Gran raised her till she pasted not even a year ago. Morgan wanted something different so she found a school that has dorms in Manchester. So far everything is going great she has meet new friends and even a guy! Nolan is a great guy that is cute, smart and never pushes Morgan to do something she doesn't want to do. Then a new guy Chase come into town Morgan has a pull to him but she doesn't know if it is a good or bad thing, till one day he asks about her gifts...he has gifts as well and tries to answer all of Morgans questions about who she really is. This is truly an amazing story of someone that feels that they are alone in life and has no one to turn to...so if i have gotten your attention i suggest this book is for you, i know i will be letting all my friends know about Morgans amazing gifts.

"Gifted" by Jenny Phillips is a well written young adult story about a girl with supernatural talents who after the loss of her parents starts life at Manchester Academy Boarding School. She soon finds her bearings at school but struggles with nightmares, her unexplainable gift to change her hair and some odd seizure she cannot put into context. Just as she starts dating one boy another appears who seems to know about her abilities.
This book is teenage literature at a very skilled level. It reads easily and introduces the characters and their thoughts in a well paced and empathetic way. The confusion that our heroine feels about everything that she learns is very convincing and so is her emotional turmoil about which boy to trust and chose. There are a few scary moments in this book - her nightmares mainly but the way in which the supernatural powers are introduced seem perfectly appropriate for younger readers. I cared a lot for the characters and wanted the story to continue.

Gifted
The Broken Soul Series #1

Well written and descriptive, the book had me gripped from the start. Morgan has been through so much in her life, and has been left to work it all out herself, until Chase is sent to talk to her and that’s where things got really interesting. The relationships she forms all become important parts of the story, giving it depth, though I feel sorry for Nolan. There are so many twists and turns to this story, esp. the ending, I was left wanting so much more. Can’t wait to read book 2.

A Review of Gifted by Jenny Phillips

While I'm not a YA fan, I do read a book of any genre if it has a great story and is well told. This is indeed the case for Gifted. I had not enjoyed YA this much since Twilight or the Van Allen Series. Jenny's writing style is lovely, the plot is good and the cliffhanger is awesome. I recommend this for any reader who loves YA.

What is up with this reoccurring plot twist. The last two books have done this to me. Presented me with a swoon worthy man, that captures your heart, only to leave it broken. It gives the book dynamic and makes you want to read on, the only problem is i have to wait for the next book to come out to mend my heart. Great book though!

First of all the book was pretty damn great. However, it starts off very confusing and slow. When it does speed up, there is a general sadness. It was well written and I felt a huge emotional connection with the characters. I was heartbroken at the end when Chase left her. It was kind of a haunting type novel. I will definitely be reading the second installment.

Slow to start. By about 30% in it finally picked up. The pace then was good and kept me interested.

I would of liked a little more background with the gifts and the who, what, where, why and how.

I'll most likely pick up book 2 and see how that goes
