Night is a boy who knows it's much more fun to play than go to sleep. When the sun sets, he travels through the night sky in a spaceship with his teddy. Night's favorite game is hide-and-go-seek, which he plays each evening with his older sister, Day. But why can't he ever find her?
Night Boy is a unique playful picturebook about a brother and a sister named Night and Day. The rhythmic text and rich illustrations make for a bedtime story that is sure to lull children who say "I can't sleep" into dreamland. Through the personas of a brother and sister, Night Boy offers a unique explanation of how night turns to day astronomically.
Anne Laurel Carter has been a waitress, baker, store clerk, fruit picker and milked cows. Her all-time favourite job was being a school librarian. She often writes about experiences she, her siblings, her friends, her four children, even complete strangers had, or she imagines they had, and then embellishes. Liberally. She divides her year, writing and teaching, between Toronto and Nova Scotia.
This book is about a boy he was waiting to play his favorite game with his big sister , day. And that when he finally remembers their game. He forgot to find day. Each night it’s the same! l like this book because the book is about a night boy who knows it’s much more fun to play than go sleep, when the sun sets , he travels through the night sky in a spaceship with his teddy . And because l love to play so much.
Night Boy is a stellar picture book. It is a favorite of my two and a half year old grandson. Mine too. When I first read Night Boy to him, he asked me to ‘read it again’ until, after ten readings in a row, I had to beg off. The story is about Brother Night who chases Day in a simple game that a small child can easily understand. Despite the simplicity of the game, however, Night Boy is a sophisticated picture book that appeals on several levels. Younger readers will love the brightly coloured manga-type illustrations while older readers will be curious about the author’s references to the constellations. The book would make an excellent jumping off point to star-gazing. In Night Boy, Anne Laurel Carter has added another beautiful work to the literary landscape for kids.
I liked this book because the brother and sister Night is always chasing his sister Day. I liked the picture as well as the story. It talks about constellations and stars. We will probably use this for our summer reading program story time "Dream Big-Read" where we are going to talk about star gazing and constellations.
Night boy is supposed to be playing hide and seek with his sister, Day. Alas, it's much more fun to ride in rockets, create the milky way, Orion and a score of other adventures. This rhyming picture book takes the reader on an adventure into the world of well...Night.
